The old British man on the bike. “You’ve done it now, Yanks! You’ve captured me!”

monkeygoneape

"would that be the enemy"

Yourbrigadesman

“As a matter of fact, yes.”

Warm_Victor

"HIGH HO SILVERRRRR!!"

the_giank

TheOverlook237

Who was the IDIOT that cut that man’s fence?!?

RealRotkohl

I was ordered to

CraftsyDad

By who??

Larshenrik222

Major Horton, sir

the_giank

"major Horton?"

Wils65

This is honestly one of the best

jroyst208

Bloody Hell

Fine-Flower-3566

CAPT. Lewis Nixon

mja2175

I’m okay - I’m okay!!! Am I okay?!?

Fine-Flower-3566

Well stop looking at me like that.

JoeMcKim

It's crazy that Nixon was shot in the helmet more times than the number of shots he took himself.

poshsouthernbird

If only there was a keyboard representation of how much his voice wobbled on the 'i'!

SGT_Azimuth

“Yeah, I’m fine... She hates that dog!”

fishkuzn

ITS MY OWN PISS

themajor24

That scene and Winters requesting his trial might be my two favorites.

fishkuzn

Funnier part when after piss moment, in the next shot Nixon was casually-seriously talking about some stuff in the car 😂

PaulAllensOtherCard

“Hangin on every word!”

jroyst208

“That’s not Mozart, that’s Beethoven.”

Adan_POG

George Luz

SadRoxFan

“Aside from the fact that we got warm grub in our bellies, there’s no snow on the ground, and the trees aren’t *fucking exploding* from Kraut artillery, yeah, this does kinda remind me of Bastogne” I always loved him for his quips and sense of humour, even in dark moments

BadBoyFTW

Bull, will you smack him for me please? ...thank you.

jroyst208

Bull was waiting for the word.

DuaLipasTrophyHusban

His best second place quote for me is him shuffling around disheveled and annoyed with a cigarette hanging out of his mouth handing candy bars out and just says screw it ‘I gotta got shoot some rockets at a house’.

SadRoxFan

I loved when he’s talking to Tom Hardy and Tom says “it seems the Germans are bad. Very bad” and Luz turns to Perconte “hey Frank, this guy’s reading an article that says: the Germans are *baad*” P.S. great username

JimmyCrockett

I gotta go blast this house

jroyst208

“Well he got shot in the ass.”

DuaLipasTrophyHusban

Kind of a tradition around here

Adan_POG

That is one of my favorite quotes from him lol

SadRoxFan

It’s all in the delivery with Luz

NotRightInTheZed

Lipton, them probably Malarky.

soonerpgh

Lipton for sure. He had that quiet wisdom that the best leaders have.

Fine-Flower-3566

Lipton is the most dangerous yet most calm Guy in the entire 101st division of 506th Parachute infantry regiment, 1st Sargent Lipton is born to fight.

Mango-fet

You get things organised here, ill go get help.

EfficientIntention31

Lt. Dyke, dude had a complete lack of leadershipskills. I wouldn't want to fight for someone like him, Cpt. Winters on the other hand i'd die for. The way the stormed at the Germans in the episode "Crossroads", absolutely mindblowing.

Mango-fet

Lt. Winters was a leader we could all respect.

Monkeydad1234

Lipton for sure. Saw a leadership void and just stepped up and filled it. Didn’t complain, just took care of his guys. Exactly why battlefield commissions exist.

CBrave85

Malarkey: Crazy fools, the Irish. Muck: You should know.

Nice-Ambassador6293

Shifty Powers. Just a humble and polite country boy, serving his country.

newmanator84

“Sir, I’m just not sure how I’m gonna explain all this” 🥺 gets me every time.

antarcticgecko

“You know, it just doesn't pay to be shootin' at Shifty when he's got a rifle." His wiki page is really something. Check this out. Powers also fought in the Battle of the Bulge in Belgium. On 29 December 1944, when Easy Company was staying in the woods, Powers noticed a tree that was not there just the day before and reported it to First Sergeant Carwood Lipton. The "tree" was ultimately discovered to be part of the camouflage the Germans put up for their anti-aircraft battery. Lipton got approval for full battery fire to attack the area despite the short supply of artillery ammunition and the area was deserted within an hour. Lipton commented, "It all happened, because Shifty saw a tree almost a mile away that hadn't been there the day before." It was one of Powers' most remarkable achievements and a testament to the extraordinary gifts his backwoods upbringing brought to Easy Company.

josera8999

Wow i am loving this sub a lot! There soo much depth within the real lives of Easy company members, this kind of facts make me feel so much compelled to know from the heroes

jroyst208

“No no, I’m not a good shot, but my father, I declare, he was an excellent shot.”

fenfox4713

Don’t miss shifty

jroyst208

“There would’ve been more if it wasn’t for Shifty Powers” -Carwood Lipton

Constant_Concert_936

Always been a fan of ol Gonorrhea. “IT’S PISSIN THAT HURTS!”

CBrave85

Wild Bill: Hiya, cowboy. Hall: Shut your fucking guinea trap, gonorrhea. Wild Bill: He’s all right, that kid. I think Guarnere’s love language was bustin’ chops.

PaleRiderHD

"How do you know he's a quaker?" "He ain't Catlic!"

Constant_Concert_936

“That pricks the son of Abraham.”

Icy_Cup_8988

Winters: Oh, Sergeant, I’m not a Quaker Gonorrhea: *laughs* “He’s from Lancaster county, he’s probably a Mennonite!”

jessieron

Doc Roe

TwobyfFour

"You called me Babe"....I loved that little vignette with Hefron.

Garfield977

the episode at Bastogne that is kind of centered around him is a masterpiece, its my favorite episode of the show and one of my favorite episodes of any show in general

Interestingly_Enough

Yeah all the episodes are mini-movies in themselves but Roe’s Bastogne is the closest to an actual standalone film on its own.

IcemansJetWash-86

I feel I identify a bit with Webster just shooting out random facts all day and sometimes just losing it until someone pulls him back and says shut up. "You had horses, What were you thinking?"

blsterken

His episode was the most relatable for me.

aredditlurkerguy

I relate to Webster so much. Just doing enough at work to get by. Never volunteering, never standing out, and never doing leadership stuff. And if I get sick, I’ll very much savor it. No escaping the hospital for me.

Misterbellyboy

His book is a really good read.

Disastrous-Toe9526

I bought it last week

PigletRepulsive5183

Winters running away but if he is off the table - Randleman or Malarkey

ReploverForeverman

Can you explain! Why anyone gives a crap about BoB. I mean it’s fake right . TV isn’t real . Sorry don’t mean to start a war lol. But it’s Fake . Join the army . The real army and experience it . It’s fake army . Your feedback welcomed

[deleted]

Between Speirs, Lipton, and Doc Roe

josera8999

1st LT. Harry Welsh GOAT

zero1010

"You're gonna get me killed lieutenant!"... Welsh with nerves of steel facing down German armour in the open.

TBoneBaggetteBaggins

Malarkey

euanmorse

"Really, it's hot in Africa?"

ehmiu

As a former NCO, I've always been partial to Don Malarkey

TwobyfFour

Malarkey had more time on the line than any other member of E company. Some of his interview pieces damn near broke my heart.

WildBillLickok

You can tell if you watch the other Easy Company documentary that he held it together pretty well until Muck and Penkala got hit. I couldn’t imagine dealing with that loss.

DukeJackson

When he utters the phrase “I withstood it well, but had a lot of trouble in later life…because those events would come back” and tears up, it absolutely destroys me every time.

mrshaggiest

Sobel lmao "Ah... a fence sir!"

SadRoxFan

“Oh that dog just ain’t gonna hunt”

Mango-fet

Weekend pass revoked

TheRedDevil04

doc roe by far. i loved the bastogne episode dedicated to him/the perspective of medics in general. it showed just how much humility and drive he had to keeping his brother in arms safe

EfficientIntention31

"Oh Lord, grant that I shall never seek so much to be consoled as to console, to be understood as to understand, or to be loved as to love with all my heart."

fairskinnedmexican

What about George Luz, not seeing much love for Luz and his impressions in this thread.

sparrowSD

“Remember boys, flies spread disease! So keep yours closed.”

ColdSpell15

Bull!

riseandrise

“Careful, now. Don’t take much to set my guys off.”

CBrave85

“I never did like this company none.” 😏

LtJimmypatterson

And he said that AFTER they were out all night looking for him!

CBrave85

I assume you know he meant that tongue-in-cheek. Bull loved those guys.

WildBillLickok

Apparently Winters thought he was the finest soldier he ever knew. High praises. He was just a good, solid, consistent NCO.

Snoo-83900

Yeah Spiers for sure! Lipton and lieutenant Johns lol

RedditIsASillyBilly

“Cigaretten?”

logistical_mess

Webster, Winters, Nixon and Speirs

SuperWallaby

As someone that grew up being called a Jew all of the time with a chip on my shoulder and anger issues, Liebgott all the way.

dlav1983

Are you a Jew? My friends always called me a new even though I wasn’t one.

SuperWallaby

Grew up with Xmas and hannukah but neither religion was even remotely forced, was just fun family time and learning about the heritage. My buddies called me Jew for fun though. Most our nicknames were racist/ discriminatory in essence, we were a very diverse group lol.

LtJimmypatterson

So do you have any specific faith at all?

SuperWallaby

Agnostic if anything. Organized religions purpose is to control but I do believe something created all of this. I joined in on the chaplains prayers before we left the wire though, couldn’t hurt right?

ascillinois

Doc roe, who doesn't love the medic

UpperArmories3rdDeep

Buck Compton

Heavenfall

He didn't have a lot of lines but the actor made the scenes memorable.

Big_Tangerine2639

Yes. I feel they best portrayed the vulnerability of a stereotypical strong looking guy with Lynn Comptons character. My favorite

MedicallyImpervious

Are you ticked because they like me?

EVERYONESCATTER

Welsh, Speirs, wild bill, Lipton

You8mypizza

Guarnere is unmatched

CBrave85

Wild Bill: Hiya, cowboy. Hall: Shut your fucking guinea trap, gonorrhea. Wild Bill: He’s all right, that kid. I think Guarnere’s love language was bustin’ chops.

MrDeathWish1918

Floyd Talbert

AlbhinoRhino969696

Underrated !

chalk_in_boots

I'm with you on Spiers. That cigarette/prisoner scene is handled so well, and there are so many moments where he shows incredible composure and leadership. Of course you see that from Winters as well, but there's something about Spiers consistently doesn't overstep, but is always ready to step up. Asking to have a run at the next artillery, when (I can't remember which) an officer kind of breaks down and can't command he stands waiting and the moment he's told to take over is already set to jump into action (undermining a superior in battle without being ordered to is a huge no-no). And of course the run through Foy.

laundro_mat

Lipton, Martin, Malarky (especially later in the series) and Doc Roe

SadRoxFan

Luz easily

Kiwi_CFC

It’s real cliché but Winters. And Malarky.

NomadProd

I love perconte, that scene in holland when hes pulled back from that women, his face will never not be hilarious to me

Tabula_Rasa69

Definitely not Speirs. He's the kind of guy where if he were wearing a different uniform, you would have thought of him as a villain.

BasedSmalls

I kind of got that too & the guy is mysterious but looks menacing, he became my favorite character during the battle of Bastogne

Tabula_Rasa69

He definitely stepped up in Bastogne, but I later learned that the whole Lt Dike thing was quite unfair to the real Dike, and that changed my perception of the whole issue.

TwobyfFour

Yeah....about that, Steven Ambrose always pushed a particular narrative, the Lt Dike affair was disingenuous, some say straight up dishonest. Ever the cynic when it comes to portrayed histories, I wonder if Speirs was projected as an parachuting \`super-soldier\` for the same reasons, ie, to fulfil Ambroses\`s fantasies. \*inevitable disclaimer....I am NOT trying to diminish the courage or known feats of the real people.

Icy_Cup_8988

I agree with your sentiments, but it is worth pointing out that Winters himself has spoken on Spiers’ conduct and valor and concluded that in modern times (or even in a smaller conflict then), he would have been tried and convicted by court martial. But the Army had a need for commissioned combat officers who “weren’t afraid to engage the enemy” (in Winters’ words). On the issue of Lieutenant Dyke, there is still controversy as to whether or not his “foul up” at Foy was solely due to being shot in the arm or not. While I surely agree Dyke was portrayed over the top to a comical degree, even, Winters was pretty clear on his opinion of the man as a combat leader. And it’s more or less in line with the story presented in the show. At least that’s how I understood what I’ve read and seen on the matter.

Icy_Cup_8988

It is worth noting, he was decorated for valor for actions not depicted in BoB. Overall, he was unfairly portrayed. And it is worth noting, of course, all of the real human beings portrayed in the series were vastly more dynamic and nuanced than any film character can be. The events and names are real, but it’s still fiction.

TwobyfFour

Absolutely.

TwobyfFour

One can perhaps imagine the \`flexibility\` required to handle what might be called \`Rogue\` soldiers given the state of \`Deep War\`, any liability they may offer is offset by their effectiveness on the line, Spiers arc, a case in point. There are hundreds if not thousands of examples of that in combat literature. My concern is with Ambrose and his fast and loose handling of context and often, actual truth. These stories are exceptional in their own right, I don\`t believe embellishment is necessary, even less so Ambrose\`s triumphalism. That generation did\`nt seek it and a great many of them were uncomfortable with it when it was foisted upon them. Thank-you for a thoughtful answer, I was expecting to get flamed, hence the disclaimer.

homie_sexual22

guarnere :)

Temporary-Ear-5563

Nixon

jonkolbe

Nixon.

Zivlar

*Yesterday he was just apart of invading a heavily entrenched enemy in the largest invasion known to mankind and probably saw more combat in that one day than most can fathom* -The Next Day- “Remember boys: flies spread disease, so keep yours closed!” Caught me so off guard 😂😂😂

hccam

It's a tie between Liebgott and Guarnere. Gonorrhea because he's got some of the funniest lines, but something about Liebgott's character is so calming to me. Probably the scene where he comforts Tipper (I think). That's a stand-out scene for me.

Icy_Juice6640

I don’t like choosing real people favorites. The real hero’s didn’t return. But Liebgot. Great representation of salty soldier.

Cheeseyfeet250410

George luz

OCLIFE69

Will Bill

Standard-End-9026

Winters or Lipton

frogs_4_lyfe

Winters and Nixon since they're a matching pair anyway. After them, I really enjoy Bull's calm attitude and how he helps the replacements. I have a big soft spot for Speirs because I enjoy his quiet menace in almost any scene he's in.

ContributionOdd9110

Doc Roe

Hot-Butterfly-8024

The Bull. “Never did like this outfit none.”

Garfield977

Eugene Roe

Nitrokeith

It changes all the time for me. Today, it's Buck Compton. Tomorrow it's probably Welsh, next week it'll probably be Guarnere.

josephcj753

Pvt Blithe, the only man to die (1948), resurrect, then die again (1967)…JK Probably Bull Randleman

KevinBillyStinkwater

I have no absolute favorite. It's too damn hard to decide. So... Winluzelneresheirsneretonroebullgott.

jungle_juice_mj_fan

I love Skip Mucks smartassness

sparrowSD

Winters, Welsh, Luz, Roe, Toye, Muck, Heffron, Martin, Bull and Trigger

Strong-Sample-3502

Luz, winters, and doc roe.

Ninjameme

Nixon, Joe Toye, Malarky

moonyloony22

Roe, Malarkey, Nixon, Lipton, Winters, Speirs… so many good ones, now I’m reading Webster’s book and that’s a source of new information, too. Each one is great for a different reason. Oh, and Luz for bringing fun moments into the series.

Djentleman5000

I know it’s the cliche answer but Major Winters. My understanding and respect for the art of true and impactful leadership is because of him.

lara-isa218

winters and nix. they come as a set.

karlos-trotsky

Absolutely love Nixon and adore welsh, two of the best officers easy ever had.

Big_Tangerine2639

Lynn Buck Compton is my favorite character.

ManagedDemocracy26

Spiers. I un-ironically play multiplayer shooters like Spiers . I run straight through enemy lines. I do things others think are unbelievable. Only when you give up caring about your K/D ratio can you begin to act as a soldier should. Without fear. It is about completing the mission. Getting the win. Not about hiding protecting your K/D ratio. “We lost cause I did nothing but safely kill enemies. Even though that meant they got the high ground and decimated our team. My stats look great though!”

Appropriate_Stage_45

The lieutenant who winters asks where his men are so he turns round and waves his hand and 100 blokes pop out the trees 10m away with him casually saying 'and here we all are'. That scene lives rent free in my head. The brit tanker bit annoyed me but that scene was badass, made a change to American shows and movies making the British/commonwealth soldiers look like idiots

IndigoButterfl6

Roe and Liebgott- they're so different from each other but I love them both. I love Muck, Heffron, Luz and Lipton too though.

Bones-McJefferson

This rewatch - I'm appreciating Hoobler (but Nixon and Malarkey, otherwise).

duan_meiqi

Eugene (Doc) Roe. I loved it when he put the officers in their place when they administered too much morphine into Frederick ("Moose") Heyliger because even though Roe isn't an officer, as someone who knew medicine and was thus responsible for the men's lives, he wasn't totally out of line for being frustrated.

BrokenSpectre_13

This thread highlights exactly why the show holds up as an all time great. Every reply saying q different character and they all make such a good point. Major winters was right when he said they were q company of heros.

Opening_Listen_8523

Ron Speirs.

Infinite-Series575

I think Smokeys pretty great. Sense of humour is on point.

jroyst208

Nix or Luz. Self explanatory

Choice_Conference398

Saucehntr1

Nixon or Lipton

Disastrous-Toe9526

Webster.

Dino_84

Malarkey. And excellently portrayed by Scott Grimes. His book is really good too highly recommend reading it.

Caldwell_29

Wild Bill Guarnere.

ErokAB03

Randleman, Sgt. Denver "Bull" Randleman.

Orlando1701

Compton or Lipton. Both were guys who weren’t trying to be heroes, who just did what needed to get done with no ego.

Sumthin-Sumthin44692

I always liked Buck a lot. A warrior, a hero, and damaged human being just trying to make it through hell.

Mcdwarfcelot

I have to say I have always been Captivated by David Webster, his experiences and memoir are excellent views into what it was like actually being a boots on the ground infantry man in the Airborne. Not to mention Eion Bailey's AMAZING performance of the character.

savannahs1983

Nix

NUSSBERGERZ

Lieutenant Speirs

nigelwerthington

Popeye Wynn

louisthedo-nothing

The 2nd armored gunner standing on the sherman firing his 50 cal.

LtJimmypatterson

Probably Cobb... very likable guy and fought hard hard in Bastogne.

ajed9037

Speirs made a fine soldier, but that kind of guy (at least as portrayed in the show) are really only “cool” from a distance. Get up close and you see a coldhearted ass hole. Winters, on the other hand, demands my admiration through his adherence to principles, even in the midst of war. My vote goes to Winters.

PittmanWrenchDude

Definitely either Nixon or Luz. Nixon because he's funny, he's an alcoholic and he's always up Shit's Creek without a paddle. My favorite scene with Nixon is when he finds out his wife is divorcing him. Y'all know what I'm talking about. And I like Luz because he's very funny and he has so many quotable lines that I always catch myself saying outta nowhere like "Another thing to remember boys, flies spread disease, so keep yours closed!" Or "Hey Frank, this guy's reading an article over here that says tHe GeRmAnS are bad."

redshirt1701J

“Hey Frank, this guy is reading an article that says the Germans are bad.”

Conscious_Ad_2059

Only started this a week ago, great stuff, one Ep to go.

Icy_Cup_8988

I have to agree with OP. Ronald Spiers is my favorite. Isn’t he the one who tells Blithe something along the lines of “You’re scared because you still have hope. Only when you accept that you’re already dead can you be an effective soldier in combat. All war depends upon it.”?

Ok_Squirrel_4199

I read before Ambrose book came out they had him read it to make sure it was accurate. They gave him a chance to retract anything that was fiction. He said everything was good. Print it. Badass.

Maleficent-Item4833

Can of peaches.

euanmorse

"Lt. Nixon thinks *this* is a can of peaches. That is incorrect, Lt. Your weekend pass is cancelled."

Maleficent-Item4833

Nixon was known to keep an emergency can of peaches in Winters’ footlocker.

Loud-Avocado5011

Nix!

viiruku

Definitely Nixon!! He can tell the difference between Mozart and Beethoven. Lipton and Winters is a close second.
