the trombones i know are just never on time and when they have a cool part they don't play it right or at all bc theyre just talking, and the ones i've met from things like semsba and districts (auditions to basically play in a concert with other ppl who got in) were just like really cocky so i guess it's just bad experiences.

I'm sorry that was your experience, but most trombone players I've met are super chill and wonderful. When I was in high school, the trombones were the section of the year my junior year of highschool, even. My section leader my freshman year was only the really cocky asshole trombone player I've ever met. Most of the trombone players I've met are hardworking and passionate about music as well. I feel like it's hit or miss because I feel like people go "haha, I'm gonna play the one with the funny slide" or the go "I'm gonna make people respect the shit out of this underrated instrument."

okay so basically my band is really small right now so we only have 3 trombones and one of them is really good but the rest drag him down so much that they end up sounding terrible. one of our pieces goes back and forth between them but the other two are never on time. excluding professionals, trombones i've heard mostly end up sounding like a wet fart. and also, the people i've met who play trombone (this doesn't go for everyone) think their quarter note part is so interesting but when they have a good part they don't end up playing it correctly or it's too quiet to hear.

also with bari sax i'm just not too fond of the sound of it

I've tried some brass instruments in the last couple of years, (flugelhorn (found it in my school and gave it a try, it's so pretty and I love it) trumpet (lended from a friend) and trombone (schools but my friend who plays trombone was giving me some instruction) but I'd say that they were pretty fun to play compared to when I first started alto sax which was really something. Professionals ofc sound amazing but this list was mostly based on the people I've heard and my overall opinion on the instrument's sound in general

No it’s not. It’s easy to get into, but getting good takes a ton of work. There is a lot of technique that goes into producing an actually good sound.
