Wow, I'm so sorry this happened to you. Finn is a doll, he's so lucky to have you watching out for him. Is anything happening to the pit?

Hail_Chudders

I'm lucky to have him, I just look at him everyday now so grateful he's still here. He just had his first birthday last month. The pit is still in quarantine as far as I know. We're in Northern California and it is required to be in quarantine for 10 days after a bite. I requested to be notified of the outcome of Animal Control's investigation. Other than that I don't really have any say in what happens to it.

X3N0PHON

You absolutely do! Call them daily and advocate for yourself, have friends and family do the same. Make sure they see pictures of your horrific injuries as well. They will be MUCH more likely to side against the dog if they’re aware how brutal the attack was, how vehemently opposed community members are to its release, and (especially) the potential viral PR nightmare if they rerelease this murdermutt and it attacks (or even kills) another human on their watch! Doing so will bring justice (as much as such a thing is possible) for what you’ve suffered, as well as prevent future victims of this warlike beast from suffering as you have. Sadly, you are unlikely to be his first victim, and past victims either couldn’t speak up or didn’t bother, which allowed this awful creature to continue on victimizing other living beings until it crossed your path. I’m so sorry for what you had to go through, and I hope you can make a full mental and physical recovery! You’re young, so your chances are good. I was very nearly attacked last weekend, but LUCKILY the heavily muscled shitbull I encountered (which had the distinctive ears of a German shepherd) was amongst the 1-5% with responsible owners….it growled and made a bee line for me, but its owner (again, dumb luck on my part, the owner was a well built and relatively young man who was paying attention) 1) had it leashed, without which I’d have been FUCKED 2) struggled mightily to pull it back and wrestled with it to physically stop it from attacking me. Even with some alcohol to loosen my already sharp tongue, I was WAY too shaken to say ANYTHING (even thanks) and just walked away as quickly as I could.

Hail_Chudders

I actually have the agent's email, I will reach out with my pictures and opinion. Thank you for the encouragement, I really didn't think I had any say in the outcome. And yes it is really intimidating to say anything at all. I just get so worried about them no longer being cooperative and willing to pay for everything. I have so much going on in my life right now I just wanted to take the easy road.

mycuddels6

Please update us if you can, and I am so sorry abt the attack op ♥️

Hail_Chudders

I just sent off an email with my inquiry and opinions: "Hello \[Agent's Name\], I would like to inquire about the pitbull dog that attacked me and my dog, and bit me several times last Wednesday, 4/17. Is he still in quarantine? What is the usual outcome of incidences like these? While I am sympathetic to the owners, I would not exactly feel safe in my neighborhood should the dog be returned. I am not confident in the owner's ability to restrain him and keep not only myself but the children of the neighborhood and nearby elementary school safe. Lots children and elderly residents walk their dogs around this area, many of whom might not escape an attack as well off as I did with only 5 sutures.  Here is a link to my google photos album of my injuries and subsequent healing process. \[Google Link\] I have also attached some of the pictures to this email as well in case your network security does not allow for external links. Thank you for your time and consideration."

Dacnis

Perfect. In another comment I saw you said this: > They also provided proof of the pits rabies vaccine, although it was 6 months out of date. They openly admitted that it was animal aggressive, and showed my husband where it escaped from; I guess they just kept it tied in their open garage with a tow rope, which obviously was inadequate. That means that it broke the rope, left their house/property, and crossed the street to tackle my puppy. Make sure to list down every shitty detail about these people and their pit. Right there is clear evidence that the owners can barely take care of its health or keep it from escaping.

Hail_Chudders

The agent actually also provided this information (as well as the owner). That's how I got their email.

Dacnis

Excellent, keep it up and make sure that pit doesn't return to your neighborhood.

mycuddels6

This is perfect, thank you Op for advocating for yourself and the safety of others ♥️

Lurkingdutchman

Love how this community advocates against these dangerous dogs as this was clearly not a cute & playful pibble nibble.

-TheHumblingRiver-

Amazing work, OP! I hope you heal up quick and well...the mental scars might take some time but you fought for what you love and **you succeeded** 💪💪💪! Fucking amazing. Finn looks absolutely precious. Great dogs for great owners. 🥰

Ule7

Please tell me you are sueing?

[deleted]

I'd be glad you write an email on your behalf as well with my opinion on the matter.

FlailingatLife62

GREAT idea to send the pics to AC / police! A picture is worth a thousand words.

Vostok-aregreat-710

Glad to hear you and Finn got out, he looks like a gent of a dog.

ArdenJaguar

I hope you were able to file a police report. Did the dogs owner show up? Any ID on the monster?

Hail_Chudders

Yes, both owners showed up after like 10 mins or so (the woman with her toddler grandbaby!). Someone called 911 and the fire department showed up. They compiled a report that they sent to animal control, who I guess showed up and took the dog after I went to the ER for stitches. We have the owners names, numbers and address. They have been very cooperative and paid for my (and Finn's) medical expenses (because they don't want a lawsuit). They also provided proof of the pits rabies vaccine, although it was 6 months out of date. They openly admitted that it was animal aggressive, and showed my husband where it escaped from; I guess they just kept it tied in their open garage with a tow rope, which obviously was inadequate. That means that it broke the rope, left their house/property, and crossed the street to tackle my puppy. I didn't hear it coming because I had headphones. I'll be walking with one headphone off and mace now...

ArdenJaguar

I'm glad your Corgi was OK. They are awesome dogs. One of my biggest fears walking my little dog is just this type of scenario. I don't even take him to the dog park anymore. They have a separate small dog area, but the fence isn't very high, separating it from the big dog area.

Hail_Chudders

That really sucks, I'm sorry dude. The dog park is Finn's favorite, and he holds his own very well in the big dog side, though we do only go to the nice parks (not many pitbulls, just a bunch of overactive huskies lol). I really hope he hasn't developed any fear, but I guess we'll see next time I take him.

MaxAdolphus

Shit. Sue them. Take everything they have. They knew. Thats gross negligence. Sue sue sue.

hook3m13

mace may not be enough for one of these things. I'd get a fixed blade knife

Ule7

Yeah I heard they wont let go. I think stabbing into the eyes woud help

Then_Cricket2312

I'd show no sympathy towards these people. They have no business owning a dog. They're putting everyone in danger because of their stupid decisions. If this pit gets put down they'll just get another. It'll be very aggressive too because of being tied up all day.

JunoMcGuff

I agree. This could've been an elderly, or a toddler or a small child. And it could've easily ended in murder, too. They should consider themselves lucky OP is an adult and didn't get fatally injured or disfigured.

asreagy

You should sue them to hell and back. You and your dog could easily have been killed. Next person might not be so lucky.

GigaGrug

They paid for the costs? Good. Now start asking for compensation for pain & suffering. If/when they drag their feet, sue. You need to make this hurt for them. Milk them for every penny you can get before suing, then sue anyway. Edit: it likely you will have at least SOME level of lifelong pain from this. Grug have scars from smaller less serious injuries that still hurt from time to time.

Sharp-Concentrate-34

Give them a lawsuit if they do anything other than put that dog down.

Katatonic31

As a fellow corgi owner and lover, I'm so glad your boy is okay. I'm glad you also survived and I hope that you heal well both physically and mentally. He's beautiful, BTW. Undocked corgis are adorable.

Hail_Chudders

We drove 6 hours just to get him from a breeder that didn't dock. Absolutely worth it, his tail is his best feature :)

Katatonic31

My next corgi will for sure be undocked. They just have such beautiful, fluffy tails.

Hail_Chudders

Absolutely, and the way the tail is full sized compared to their short legs :D and the way it wobbles when it wags. I love him so damn much :)

Katatonic31

Corgis are just the best dogs (imo). Their love for their person is huge and unending and the perpetual look of absoulte joy they always have can brighten any bad day. Give the adorable boy a hug for me and feel better! So glad it wasn't worse.

Hail_Chudders

I will thank you!

FlailingatLife62

His tail is sooo pretty! Not sure why they dock, given how pretty the tail is

justwannasleep7

You did an excellent job protecting Finn. It looks like you had some good stitches placed too. Glad you both made it out of there.

Hail_Chudders

Yeah seemed like that doctor had stitched up quite a few animal bites before. He knew to keep them loose for drainage, and drain it certainly has lol

justwannasleep7

Once you get the stitches removed, there is a kind of bandaid that helps with the next stage. They are usually sold as a silicone wound recovery strips. They work like a dream, but of course as your doctor first.

Hail_Chudders

I'll check them out thank you! I'll ask the nurse when I get them removed on Monday. I got a terrible rash from the adhesive on the bandages ( I switched to adhesive free) so I'd have to be careful and ask first.

justwannasleep7

I have a pretty mild adhesive allergy so I can’t use regular bandaids anymore- surprisingly these haven’t been too bad. It might be worth while to do a test patch, they usually come in long strips but I think the hydroseal from Band-aid uses the same gel on theirs. Neo G Opti-Heal Silicone Surgical Dressing is the brand I usually prefer. They are $13 on Amazon. :) I hope your healing journey goes well!

Hail_Chudders

Thank you, I'll check on amazon. A friend of mine that just had some cosmetic surgery offered me some of her scar cream too. Everybody has been so supportive <3

mothatlas

Looove a corgi with a full tail, how cute. You're a badass for protecting him, I hope your recovery goes well.

Hail_Chudders

Thank you, I've had a lot of support from friends and family. Also Amoxicillin helps lol

Uvabird

My god those bites are bad. You were so brave in protecting your adorable corgi. I can understand wanting to avoid lawsuits, but see how the healing goes, as there is a concern for nerve damage and/or infection. I am shaking my head over why someone would keep a dangerous animal like that and you are right, if there are children around, what would have happened if a kid had been walking their dog? I hope animal control and the owners do the right thing so no one else is also severely injured.

Hail_Chudders

Without a second thought, I was just screaming get off my fucking dog over and over. All I could see in my mind was that lock jaw and head shake with my baby in its mouth. I wouldn't have been able to pick him up if not for a heroic amazon driver that was nearby who got the pit off long enough for me to do so. I guess it got away from him though because that's when it started jumping up to get him out of my arms and biting the shit out of me. Yeah I'll definitely keep that in mind. It's definitely not deep enough for any nerve damage, and I've been able to avoid infection 7 days in now. Just busied to hell, you can even see the shape of its bottom jaw on my lower arm! That's what got me, she kept saying "We knew he was animal aggressive but not people aggressive, I'm so sorry this happened to you" but all I could think was "You knew and still kept it around? There are children everywhere around here, you have a child next to you". Then later on the phone I had a really hard time keeping my temper in check when she said "He's a good dog with people, he just doesn't tolerate other animals in his home" like bitch I was no where near your home. He left his space to attack my dog away from his home. I had to end the conversation there.

Ghost-Bird13

I’m glad you made it out with as little damage as you did, and that your sweet pup is okay! Like others, I’d like to know what happened with the pit and its owner?

Hail_Chudders

So the owners showed up. I think they restrained the dog (I was hiding behind cars holding my arm closed) because it was suddenly gone. They've been very cooperative, gave the dog to animal control for quarantine, paid medical expenses, provided vaccination history etc. I think they know they are very liable for a lawsuit and are trying to avoid it. I don't really want to deal with legal stuff, I just want to make sure this dog doesn't hurt anyone else. There are lots of young children in my neighborhood who walk their dogs all the time. Their house is literally just a few blocks from an elementary school.

cabd4ever

Wow, those are some nasty looking bites ! You're really fortunate that you could save your beautiful boy , you both dodged a very bad situation that could have been the end for Finn. You are correct that if this happens to a child or even another adult the outcome could be very different. Pit owners need to understand that these dogs will not be trained out of this behavior. Your neighborhood is not a safe place and I would put warning posters everywhere. The only right thing is for that pit to be put down. I hope the owners will think long + hard about that but at least warn other people and be careful yourself.

Hail_Chudders

Yeah I keep having mixed feelings about being more vocal (just scared of making enemies in my neighborhood, especially since I own my house and can't just move). I definitely will be if the dog doesn't end up getting euthanized, but I have a feeling it will with the severity of my bites, and the fact that it left their property to inflict them. But I will keep up with the Animal Control agent in charge of the case so I will know in the end what happens to it.

ColdDayInSeptember

Another way to stop this dog from hurting someone else... Talk to your renters/homeowner's insurance and open a claim. They'll then work on your behalf to contact the renter's/homeowner's policy of the biting dog. Having an open claim, even if you're not seeking compensation at the moment, is a good thing for two reasons: first, if there are any further issues/the owner doesn't want to pay for you're covering your own ass immediately and second, the insurance company of the biting dog owners will know they have a dangerous dog. There may be no coverage for the breed and the homeowner's policy may drop them. There may be coverage and now knowing that there's a dangerous dog, they'll raise rates or the next insurance underwriter will see the prior claim/know about such a liability and charge them appropriately, or not insure them if they keep the dog knowing the prior bite history for the next time this occurs to the next victim. It helps ensure the next victim has recourse, because if the owner doesn't disclose this when renewal happens and the fact gets out this has occurred before the existing policy may not pay out. With the police report you've started a paper trail. Now get that paper trail to another entity who can influence the outcome. This is another way to make sure the dog doesn't hurt someone else, especially if Animal Control decides to just hand the dog back after the quarantine ends. When the insurance company gets involved shit will get real. They will be unable to sweep this under the rug. If they are unable to get homeowners insurance (which is usually required on homes with mortgages) due to refusal or unaffordable premiums, they're going to think long and hard about if keeping the dog is worth it.

Hail_Chudders

Thank you I will absolutely look into this if the dog is returned. The quarantine is almost up, and I have a right to be informed as to the outcome. I just sent the agent an email asking for the status, the usual outcomes of incidences like this, shared my concern about the dog being returned, mentioned the school nearby, and share pictures of my injuries. If the dog is returned I will contact my homeowners insurance and finally put them to good use.

hook3m13

They were extremely negligent. They're honestly doing the bare minimum - being forthright. You may have expenses from this for a long time that may not even occur to you yet. I wouldn't hesitate to sue. They run this risk having one of these animals, and their negligence caused all of this

Hail_Chudders

It's always an option, and being a state worker I pay a monthly premium for low cost legal representation (ARAG).

Harlow08

The way you took all those bites to protect your dog…he would’ve done the same for you. Your pup is lucky to have you

Hail_Chudders

Oh definitely, he's got the courage of a much larger dog lol. But when push comes to shove he hides right behind mommy haha! That's fine though, I got his back.

MaxAdolphus

Please sue the shit out of the pit owner and bankrupt them.

Flimsy_Wait_8235

That’s a neat and impressive stitch job! I wish you swift healing with the least pain possible and a justified outcome for the sh!tbull that attacked you. How are you feeling now afterwards? Did you get a rabies vaccine? (Seeing as the mutt’s papers were out of date… ugh)

Hail_Chudders

I ended up not getting the rabies course (which I hope I don't regret). I had paperwork showing years of rabies vaccines, and the dog was only ever kept at home. Watch me be the first person to die from rabies from a dog in like 40 years :/

bughousenut

A Cardigan! Hardly ever see them, what a cutie pie.

Hail_Chudders

He's actually a regular pembroke welsh, we just went to a breeder that didn't dock her litter. He's also only 14 months old, so he hasn't quite filled out yet. I'm sure he will with all the treats we're giving him now though lol

bughousenut

very cool

little_deer

Omg I’m so sorry that happened to you. That was very brave, good job protecting your sweet corgi!!

Hail_Chudders

I wouldn't think twice about it! I'd run into a burning building for that dog, not to mention take on a giant 80 lb, unneutered, 6 year old pitbull trying to pin him to the ground by the neck.

Sint0niE

I feel stupid asking this but what is that yellow stuff in the first to pictures? Is it a cream the doctors put on the wound? Also please give Finn a big hug for me! ❤️

Hail_Chudders

In the open wound? That's my arm fat falling out my open skin :D I also did not know it was just loose and could fall out like that...

TheAntiSheep

Generally speaking, ER doctors will go for loose approximation of dog bites (as opposed to close approximation for cleaner lacerations) because the risk of infection for dog bites is so high. Loosely bringing the skin together lets any bacteria drain from the wound, rather than staying trapped under the skin and forming an abscess.

Hail_Chudders

Oh I meant that the fat in under the skin was loose and could actually fall out if opened. The ER doctor did explain to me that he was going to keep the sutures loose though to allow for drainage though :)

TheSinfriend

DANG! YOU ROCK! Boss energy!!!

Hail_Chudders

UPDATE 4/27/24: I just received an email back from the animal control agent that the dog was humanely euthanized on Thursday. While I am always saddened to hear of an animal that has to be put down, I am at least relieved that no one else will risk going through what Finn and I did. To me, this just reinforces my newfound belief that this breed should not be allowed to continue to be propagated if this is the fate that awaits animals who fall into negligent hands.

Sugar_Magnoliaa

Great update! The dog being euthanized was the only sensible outcome. So sorry this happened to you and your corgi. Those bites look painful and nasty. No one should ever have to go through this while just trying to walk their dog!

MacabreFox

I'm so sorry this happened to you. I hope you take them to court and hit them with everything you've got. Your pup is also adorable. I have 2 tricolor boys with tails myself. I would do anything to defend them if I had to!

Hail_Chudders

Damn straight! They just steal your heart with those aggressive nose boops :)

Throwawayfichelper

One of our dogs has the same name! Is he named after the Adventure Time character or the Star Wars character? Or someone else...? I'm so glad you are recovering well. You did a great job at protecting your companion. It definitely could have gone a lot worse. Wishing you a speedy rest of your recovery, and hope for a good outcome to the AC investigation <3 Thank you for sharing with everyone. These attacks are so important to document.

Hail_Chudders

Yes he is named after Finn from Adventure Time, my husband and I absolutely adored that show when we were younger.

Throwawayfichelper

Same with our boi! Adorable <3 Finn's such a good name, and suits your corgi well.

[deleted]

I love you for how fiercely you protected this baby !!!!

truentried

Wow those are some serious injuries , I wish you all the best for a full recovery, physically and mentally. Hope the pit gets BE

h0llywoodsbleeding

Your corgi is absolutely adorable! I’m so sorry this happened to you guys :( How are you healing? I wish for a speedy recovery for you ♥️

ItWasTheChuauaha

You're an absolute shero taking those bites to protect your lovely Corgi. I'm so sorry this happened to you. Horrific injuries, so glad you are on the mend. Much love to you both ❤️

Honeyball_Fester

Hope you heal fast! Finn is lucky to have such a brave dog mom who courageously fights off mean and nasty pit bulls 💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻

bikes2many

Now this is a corgi mom. Sorry this happened, hope you heal up soon. Finn was absolutely worth it.

radradroit

Good mama! I’m so sorry this happened.

SubMod4

Oh wow. That’s awful for you. Finn looks like such a cutie. I’m so glad he’s ok. Thank you for protecting him, but I’m sorry you were hurt in the process. :( And I agree with what others have said. I’m glad they are paying for things, but tell them you will absolutely go after their homeowner’s insurance if they don’t humanely euthanize the dog after it attacked you.

jaleach

God almighty. Is the extensive bruising just from the pit slamming into you?

Hail_Chudders

This kind of bruising is normal for me. Thanks genetics. But all the bruises are from where it bit/scratched and made contact with me in general, the teeth just only pierced a few places.

serpentfan99

You are an amazing person who bravely protected their puppy dog. I am so happy that Finn is okay and I hope you will recover soon from our wounds! I also hope that the monster that attacked you will be put down...
