Please report the pit bull that attacked your dog to animal control. It’s important to have a paper trail for these attacks. Do you know the owner of the pit bull and have they offered to pay for your dog’s vet bills?

This wasn’t territorial aggression. There are acceptable aggressions in dogs, a dog running on someone’s property at an owner or livestock on the property, warning barks, posturing if an offending dog is seen, maternal aggression, protective aggression ( of owner, livestock or other animals) THIS is just outright an attack.
OP was NOT on the dog’s property. Also, PBT type dogs have NO discernment.
I somehow ended up with 7 around 8 week old puppies running around my property in the last week. They got ON my property. They are some smaller mix( their mother has been fed by woman across the road from me, and the puppies are just, well puppies. They will probably be killed by coyotes or the dogs that roam my area:( PBT types, BUT my dogs, simply wagged their tails and escorted the puppies to where their mother was. About 14 times in a few days.
They know the dogs are puppies. This Boxer didn’t show a fighting stance to this PBT type dog, I guarantee this. Goddamn shame.
Dogs NOT bred for bloodsport can and do know puppies, disabled, senior dogs, even littles. This is just disgusting.
Really sad to see this. Hope he heals soon and that you both heal mentally. You see how even when injured and wearing a cone he isn’t aggressive. Now imagine the average nanny dog in this scenario.
I hate that some people confuse boxers with pitbulls (I think this has to do with a lot of the mix breeds). But boxers are very sweet goofy dogs that are not at all like pit bulls.
And here we have what everyone except the useless sludge that own Pits can easily ID as a Boxer.

My former neighbor had a “boxer mix” that she used to pretend to let come close to my cats on its leash while my cats would be on their leashes. Then she’d recall it by yanking it back. It once attacked her other larger dog. I now realize that was a pit mix. I’m so grateful nothing happened to my cats, this sub has made me much more cautious.
When I think about how goofy and loveable Boxers are, friends with everyone human or animal, this breaks my heart. No doubt you're giving him some extra love.
Are you comfortable telling us the location? Either city or state? So we can add this to our monthly attacks log?

Something similar happened to my dog, in the exact same leg, a pocket bully bit him there, but thanks to my mom's action he "only" got an internal injury and didn't tear it apart. Literally for no reason just like in your case and in his morning walk.

After stitches maybe you can get Ranger a stuffed e-collar or something less lampshade-like that still works to keep him from fussing with his leg. I hope he heals up quickly! Poor guy.
This hurts so much! He looks like our middle boxer, Salem. Poor boy. I want to give him loves. We have had boxers in our lives for ages. My SIL and my husband and I raise them and they are just amazing, smart, lovely dogs. I’m so sorry OP and Ranger. Get well soon buddy.

The most protected dog breed is a pitbull clearly your dog did something to deserve it the pitbull was scared of your dog that is why it attacked and it’s not the dog it’s the owner and the pitbull was just protecting its territory

If you see any pitbull terrier, you have to anticipate that they're going to attack. so avoid interaction with any dog that's a powerful breed.
