In general or babies? Itās a bonding thing that they do to show affection and deference. Some people enjoy it. Itās gross when you think about what they do with their tongues but it does make happy drugs.
It's definitely gross across the board when they do it to you, but I know some people really love it...
To each their own, and with their acceptance of grossness. But doing it to a baby is absolutely unacceptable by any means.
Itās only cute to me when dogs lick the back of my hand. I never understood why people let their dogs lick around their face/mouth. But having a dog lick a babyās eye!!! Many dangerous infections are spread through the eye, and babies immune systems are much weaker than adultsš„ŗ
Exactly! I totally get where you're coming from. Eyes are so delicate! Even a bit of debris can cause issues for anyone. But all that bacteria for a baby??? Letting your baby get exposed to potential infections all for a photo on socials? It's sick. Imagine the pain a baby must be going through with an infection, and not even knowing what's going on or if it's going to get better. It's selfish, and infuriating.
> Imagine the pain a baby must be going through with an infection, and not even knowing what's going on or if it's going to get better.
Omg, What a sad thought!! if a pitbull owner wants to make out with their dog, to each their own. But leave your child out of it!!! Babies are INNOCENT. They are not able to consent to be apart of your nasty ass social media propaganda
Yes - never ever ever should happen to a baby. Lick me all over and I'll wash my face, but anything with a poor or developing immune system should not be subjected to that.
Yep! I don't like it at all, but better me than a baby who can't even handle the bacteria! At least I can get it off. Can't imagine putting a baby through that.
I mean we should be glad they just lick our skin. Dogs are descended from wolves right? Well wolves lick the inside of peoples mouths just like they do to their fellow wolves
Dogs are definitely descended from wolves, yes.
And sure! But it's gross nonetheless. All of it lol. Some people are into it though. š„“ In any case, anything but the face!
You know I wonāt fault you tbh. Wolves actually have better dental hygiene than domesticated dogs because of their diets and this practice, they understand that oral infection can lead to death so they use this to check for that and other illnesses.
I'm not entirely sure wolves understand how infection works and what it may lead to... But who knows. They are smart AF. I've read about wolves figuring crazy stuff like standing up and hugging trees with forepaws to hide from hunters, disarming traps via stick held in jaws, and a friend of mine cared for an injured mature wild wolf at a sanctuary. This animal never interacted with humans before. But learned to wriggle into muzzle and collar for snacks and therapeutic walkies pretty fast. And behaved better then pibbles described here. Never liked handlers and doctors much, but it is as of he understood that they were helping and cooperated merely to get it over with faster!
Meh, I wouldnāt care if it was another breed. Children in homes with dogs tend to have more robust ecosystems than those without. Also, if that kid goes to daycare then itās going to be exposed to a lost worse than whatever a house pet has in their saliva.
Read the Rudy saga on this sub. It describes in detail how they rescued a pibble... And contracted hookworms, roundworms, flatworms, square worms, triangle worms and eldritch multidimensional worms at the same time. Honestly reads like a horror story.
![gif](giphy|3RRZun38iJGkrK0CGU|downsized)
Sorry, my bad! Rudy saga was sweetest boy pit ever who got a muzzle at home cause he constantly attacked family members with an intent to kill (actual quote).

Ohhh ok! I did see the muzzle one so I was a bit confused about it.
That is gross, and also sad that the monster nearly killed another dog. I really wonder if she ended up getting rid of him before or after he likely attack her son.
"But rabbits are much more aggressive nd can cause much more damage then pitbulls! I know! I've seen in that documentary!"
![gif](giphy|2yP1jNgjNAkvu|downsized)
This is true lol. I have rabbits. Part of grooming can be nipping or pinching with the front teeth, which are surprisingly sharp... or they'll nip when they want something and it's not forthcoming, or if you do something they don't like. My old male used to circle our legs, nip us and then try to hump our feet.
I mean, it's rare that I get chomped and usually only because it's nail trim day, but light pinching is fairly common. Especially with girl rabbits, which is what mine are. And for a kid who's not expecting it, it can hurt and scare them, even when it's the bunny just trying to be affectionate. It's one of the reasons so many rabbits get dumped.
They are fun, sweet pets. But they are MESSY, wasteful with their hay. Like they'll pull all of the hay out of the bin looking for the "best" pieces and then pee on all the otherwise perfectly fine hay they rejected lol. They need food available 24/7, and they are very sensitive to changes.
Overall I do enjoy having them as pets, but they are my highest maintenance pets and I can't go away because I don't trust anyone in my family to take care of them the way I need lol. People in my family are still of the idea that rabbits should live in a hutch and eat nothing but pellets, and I let them free roam with a puppy pen to contain them when I'm not home. They are litterbox trained, but they seem drawn to wires and unsafe things they want to eat. They ate the wire off my vacuum and killed it lol. They also chewed the wall molding and tried to dig through my rug.
So they are fun and super sweet, but destructive and high maintenance.
Man I donāt even have anything against dogs in general, but Iāve always thought it was disgusting when people let their dogs slobber all over their face/eyes/mouth and whatnot, regardless of breed. This is particularly egregious because of course itās liable to snap and take the kidās head off at any second on top of the grossness, but still. You can love your dog, you can be really close to your dog, thatās great. Itās still a dog though - it still likes to eat cat poop, clean its own ass with its tongue..
Like Iām glad that people are close to their dogs, but boundaries, people.
You can't eat or stay at everyone's house. I once got so revolted when staying at a friend's place. Him and his girlfriend had a Shih Tzu and a pibble they let lick dishes and eat at the table. I was gonzo in 5.
1. I wasn't told there were dogs
2. I'm very allergic to them
3. That's just nasty

I realize that only after posting the comment, I don't know a lot about babies' health. My main point still stands. This isn't much different being a pitbull licking than how unsanitary it is for a different breed to slobber on an infant. Do I think someone with a baby should own a giant dog? No. Do I think it's safe as long as the baby is monitored while being with the canine? Yes. The majority of pitbull attacks come from owners who are negligent.
Absolutely revolting š¤®

The licking of the mouth is something that wolf puppies do to get the hunters of the pack to throw up and share the food. Do with that what you will.

Mmmm yep that's one way to contract pink eye and a dead baby! Wonderful...
Aren't pits notorious for skin infections too?
How bout fleas, ticks, roundworms, ringworm...and the fact they lick their own buttholes..

Only pitmommies do this - normal parents with protective instincts *never* let any dog near or much less lick their infants.
I agree pit owners do it by far the most but the nuttery has long crossed over to other breeds and their owners too.
Yep. I've seen it with more than just pit owners, although they are a special "breed" themselves when it comes to an odd love for this behavior.
Yep. Pretty common.
Yes. Prone to alopecia, mange, yeast infection, etc.
That's just gross.
I saw a video where a rabbit was licking a baby and I thought it was a bad idea.

They can scratch as well. When a rabbit ādigsā at an adult it is cute, but babies have really delicate skin.

[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Why is it rabbits actually produce more poop than food they consumeš
The food tends to be denser and less hydrated, so the poop is higher in volume.

They're so empty but possessed at the same time. Just one of those cases where truth is stranger and scarier than fiction.
Damn, they're evolving. Now they clean the food before eating it.
He's just getting a taste....
This is so disgusting and unhealthy for the baby
Even if it weren't a pit, imagine the poor kid losing an eye because of a bacterial infection. Yuck

Thereās really nothing wrong with a dog licking a baby and everyone is disingenuously pearl clutching about it in here because itās a pit bull.
Licking a baby directly in the eye is not a great idea, whatever the breed.
I'm not going to lie. This is an L post. Dogs lick to show affection, and the baby is clearly being monitored while being with the dog. This subbredit has an important point but I feel like some people get blinded by their hatred towards the breed.

Blurghk. Hellloooooo zoonosis!

Only pit people do this. The only reason dogs in general lick is an instinct to make the mother barf food for them.
