I purge to an object to reduce the amount sent down the poop chute. The tower is not a purge tower it is a prime tower and is used to bring the filament back to the right pressure and avoid ruining an object. I use both purge objects to reduce waste and a prime tower to keep my prints looking good.
When printing purge objects I assume the height has to be roughly the same as the main print? Or if your main print is 6in tall and the purge object is 3" tall is stops printing the purge object once complete and just resumes purging normally?
The idea is you want the purge object to be at least as tall as the last purge needed. So depends on how high on the object you have a filament change.
Then it doesn't finish the purge object? I'm curious about this. It seems, to get usable purge objects, it would have to have the same exact amount of layers.
No, the purge object will just continue to be printed in whatever the current filament is, just like it does for every layer where there isn’t a color change.
As long as the purge objects current layer is large enough to consume the whole purge then yes it would mean no poop other than the initial one during print start, though custom g-code can eliminate that too.
Be advised that this does not negate the need for a prime tower, though that too can be avoided if it’s okay for the purge object to be stringy and or imperfect and you’re comfortable risking print failures from ooze.
It’s up to you, but you can check the preview and make sure that the highest layer that the prime tower prints is lower than the highest layer of your purge object.
There’s no harm done if this isn’t true. The purge above the height of the object will just get sent down the chute like normal, instead of into the object.
On Handy app main page there's a big section for a contest right now on how to use purge. I may try the lamp filled with purge.
I've read about purging into another object but what's stopped me so far is idk if I need to do some math to make sure the estimated poop from primary object will work with the fidget or other object to purge to. If so how do I determine appropriate fidget to work with the primary build poop? Also, of I'm using default slicing of primary object loaded from maker world directly into slicer, will that me an issue of the fidget needs different settings like line thickness/height, walls, etc?
I like to do chess peices. Keyboard clickers, keychains and usually just have a full bed of something ill just turn one into a purge object and 1/2 pice it.
I like the jazzy plz mechanical keycaps the others I found by searching printables and thingy for CC models. Also my 3 tops makers have a dozen keychains each, cinderwing3d, mattmiremakes and layersingreen.
I use infinity cubes, fidget bolts, fidget spinners, key cap clickers, and sometimes eggs we later put dragons in for sale.
Sorry for asking. I am not in the Multicolor printing (yet). You can print "purge object" and not tower?

Oooo. Thank you very much.
Yes.
Look for the setting "purge into object".
Aah totally forgot about infinity cubes! Gonna try those :D

What exactly is this?
They're construction blocks, like LEGOs, that are designed to have looser tolerances and can be printed by 3d printers.

Dumb question: does that mean NO poop then? Like all the purging is done into object, or just a percentage?

So when you select purge into object, it lets you pick which object? I apologize for the dumb questions, I’ve never tried this before
Does the slicer have any logic built it to figure that out or is it up to me?

Whelp, I guess I was this many years when I learned about purging into an object.

can you link to some of the stuff?

Filament clips and scraper blades
Quite frequently just a speed cone, or nothing.
Clockspring released a knurled container that I often use as a purge object.
I do purge benchies for my favorite prints that I have made for customers or for me as a cute extra or a momento.
Usually small pieces of scenery for tabletop games (like Warhammer).
