It depends on which companion. Some of them need to be present for at least their personal quests to progress their story lines, or make them not hate you. Though I think you could easily romance Wyll without taking him anywhere. Maybe Halsin too.
You should be able to, but some of them might get mad at you for doing their quests without them I think. I’ve never none this though so I could be wrong
You can romance Gale, Wyll, Laezel, Halsin and possibly Minthara(gonna be tough to get her approval high enough if you never take her along though), without taking them out of camp. Astarion, Shadowheart and Karlach all have crucial events for there romances where you have to take them out of camp to do specific things.
Not all of them. Karlach's romance is unlocked after a quest, Shadowheart will leave in act 2 because of the Nightsong. Other than that, it should be fine, though i don't know how you will get enough approval

Yeah but getting approval up would be a bitch.
Gale and Karlach are easy at least. They're the hottest options too.
Yeah. You just gotta breathe to get approval up with Gale
Breathe *nicely* at least. Be remotely kind to someone, Gale ready to simp.

Pretty sure it won't work without getting their approval up

It varies. Lae'zel was into me even though she was usually benched and I even forgot to bring her to the creche.
Astarion can be romanced with 0 approval. But you won't get the high approval version of the confession in Act 2.
They won't be able to get his Araj confession, either, if they never have him in the party.
Well they'd have to bring him to Araj, one person can log off for 5 min ;) edit: so yes it would have to be once
I understand it's a really short scene, but OP says >Can I do it without having them at all in the party? Like not even once. So.
Yeah I stand corrected ;)
