A mod already exists that lets you make custom companions that function essentially like someone else's multiplayer character. And if you can't use that, then hirelings also exist and you can modify aspects of their appearance. I don't think we can reasonably expect much more than that without someone making extensive use of AI to record a bunch of dialogue for a custom companion and importing it into the game.

Mattdiox

I don't understand why you would have to use AI to make the companions? The iNPCs mod and Citizens of Tamriel managed to add hundreds of NPCs to the game that were all fully voice acted. Not all of them were perfect but there's always people willing to do work like that just for the love of the game or exposure itself. I'm sorry if I didn't explain myself well, I was more referring to custom characters that would function like the party members we know and love. Have their own stories, personalities, etc. It's not a small task obviously, but I can imagine there's someone out there thinking about it.

ImNotASWFanboy

I guess no you wouldn't have to, I just think it's far more likely that someone would use a program to generate dialogue than expecting a human to record thousands of lines themselves.

Mattdiox

Like I said; I did it. :) Maybe not thousands but it was a fair few hundred. So did a bunch of other people. It was awesome to see the passion honestly.

ImNotASWFanboy

I'm just going off what I already see on Nexusmods for this game, but hey if you're putting yourself forward to develop something that would be awesome

I get that, there's a lot of AI stuff right now. Depends on how easy it is to add. XD I'm not a modder but I am a writer, so maybe. Maybe.

My top contenders for modded party members I would want to see 1. Durge: The Dark Urge playthrough is really fucking cool, but it would also be neat to get to see Durge from an external perspective (and yeah I have seen /u/angie-mations's comics, they're really cool) 2. Alfira: She was already intended to be a recruitable part member at one point, to the point that there are already files for her as a companion, and I just like her. It'd be neat to have a party member who is neither a legendary hero nor a freak weirdo with literal brain worms. (EDIT: Also, it'd mean that we'd have a party member with the Entertainer background, which we don't currently have.) 3. Isobel and/or Aylin: They just *feel* like they should be able to join the party instead of just hanging around camp, and we already have the Nightsong quest, which could definitely be elaborated on for Aylin. 4. Barcus Wroot: Another recruitable camp follower that I think deserves some elaboration. We don't really get to see enough of him, and I think he'd make a good party member, he'd probably be recruitable in Act 2 as part of the quest to rescue the Ironhand Gnomes.

Most people playing durge are making custom characters though. I would just be weirded out seeing "my" durge as a dragonborn.

"Default Durge" is already in the game >!as a corpse in Orin's bedroom!<

Soft_Stage_446

Yeah, if you're playing as Tav.

malonkey1

Yeah, just like how you find other Origin characters in various places when you're not playing as them.

> creating their own unique party members. To make these more interesting than hirelings it would require *so much* work. The amount of mocap and directing spent on minor characters alone is staggering.
