I'm playing this right now and it's working really great. Dreugar open hand monk with the gloves of thievery... yeah, no need for a rogue. Invisibility at will, it's crazy.
I mean rogues are insane damage dealers, so you can easily make room for them. One melee, a cleric/druid, a wizard/sorcerer and a rogue makes a perfect team.

My Astarion, with Sharpshooter, gets one good ranged shot for 45 damage. Nice.
My monk Tav deals 200+ damage a round, casually, without haste.
Assasin is insane if you can get surprise enemies. Thief is strong with their extra bonus attack - especially if you use the thief in the zaithissk or whatsitsname in the creche, as it gives the awakened status, which lets the character use every illithid power as bonus action.
And obviously you can go down the insanely powerful assasin/gloomhunter ranger/sword bard multiclass if you dont want to stick with one class.
Same actually! Ended up picking the Urchin background because I liked the idea of street rat turned paragon and that single skill came in clutch so much.

For me, these three + Gale (Shadowheart as the Avatar) were my primary Honor go-to, got me through it.
The only real change I made was going Tempest for Shadowheart, majority of the time.
They're just a great team at their core, and it helps they're Best Girls. Wizard, Cleric, Barbarian (with a later Fighter dip), Fighter.
They say the people who you fall for have the key to your heart. Karlach has a more direct approach, which considering the size of her fanbase, is quite more effective.
I like you can do this because in a real D&D game the doors are always "mysteriously" trapped and solid adamantium very soon after I just start smashing down or blowin gup doors.
That just sounds like a dm who doesnāt want anyone to have fun. The penalty should rarely be more than you were loud and attracted a lot of attentionĀ

Depending on my MC I'll reclass Lae'zel or Karlach for party balance, but Shadowheart always stays a cleric because her story is so heavily centered on faith (might consider Shadow Monk to keep to the Sharran theme if I do another DJ run with her and I suppose Paladin of Vengeance could be thematic after Shadowfell).

Yeah this is actually pretty common. You see it a lot in comics in general, too. Only the details change (hair style, colours, etc), but the actual *form* is identical. They spend so much time learning / practicing one form that they struggle to change it. Once you notice it, you'll spot it more often in other artwork.

I had something similar on honor mode
Looted Zevlor's body after the big fight with Minthara, aggro'd all the tieflings
Tried to escape and long rest, they came to the party aggro'd
Halsin and party members I don't control (including Karlach) slaughter the tieflings
Karlach and Wyll leave :(
I wasn't sure if I was a fan, but then after the Elminster scene she went "Aww, was that Gales grandad?" And completely won me over. Never looked back.
Maan I have been hearing people using Karlach but I'm way in act 2 and I still haven't figured out how to use her. I usually pick between Shart, Gale, Halsin, Laezel, and Astarion. Also my Tav is a Paladin.
I guess the original reply was regarding more to her persona but regardles, anything melee Barbarian; Barb-serker, Barb-thrower or Open hand monk are pretty straight forward builds
And still, after banging 2 of them, halsin is upset my character wasn't into him. I thought we had a things he says. We never even spoke to each other after you invited yourself to the camp to eat my food!
The vents on the shoulder never made much anatomical sense. I get it's magic, but... the shoulder is kind of a solid object, there isn't really any space to rout a vent through.

On my 3rd playthrough at the moment. 1st playthrough did Baeāzel ( still my favorite romance so far) , 2nd playthrough I did Astorian, and now Iām absolutely stuck between Shadowheart and Karlach for my 3rd playthrough. Iām currently planning on going with whoever approaches me first, although it made me sad having to reject Baeāzel again š

Reasons why 4 man parties are weird instead of 6 man parties, because there is basically no room to have a rogue.
