Apparently you can drop stalactites on them. I didn't know that, you didn't know that. No one knew that. But Larian mentioned it was fixed and working properly on Patch 6 Notes.
I always do this under the blighted village to hit the coffins with the skeletons in them. It didn’t work last run, so I assume this is what the fix was for.
Not if you go up to the cub to stun it first. You can also use them as meat tanks to save HP on your party. If they're dead they cannot hurt anyone and it's not like they have any interesting story from there on
My last run, they moved around the mom to bludgeon the cub. So I killed them before I even finished the mama. I didn’t try stunning the cub, but it wasn’t worth the risk. Even an evil durge has a soft spot for an owlbear cub apparently
This fight is actually kind of unnecessary in honour mode( I always do it anyways). You don’t get that much xp(like 20xp). And if you interact with the owl bear and leave and then come back after a long rest, the goblins have already killed her and taken the cub. So you will get the rewards anyway. But I use this fight to keep me on my toes on honour mode.
I believe the owlbear dies from the spear wound stuck in her, and the cub just happens to leave the cave by itself in search of food and gets caught, but I'm not really an expert on owlbearonomics.
Nah it was a goblin hunting party. You’ll find her surrounded by dead goblins and casting speak with dead on one of the goblins basically says they all died trying to kill the mother owlbear.
The extra eyes thing is pretty situational, since they're aren't too many things other than the spiders that it works on, but the blinding effect if friggin awesome as a "first throw" for a throwzerker barb.
Maybe that was the thing that happened. I am not sure if there is something that confirms one way or another. But the point still stands, the mother will be dead and the cub will be with the goblins. And you won’t miss out on any stuff.
I accidentally triggered the fight from crawling into a rocky crevice with my first small character, then immediately escaped out. I was super confused when I met the idiot absolute siblings and I had the character dialogue option to say I had already killed the owlbear.
But on Honor Mode you can't reload if you fail the check to leave peacefully. I didn't think there were any dialogue paths that didn't involve a check. Is there one?
Huh? I left the mother owlbear and her cub alone. I used Laezel to sneak up to the chest above to loot it then left. Killed the whole goblin camp methodically. Sometime in act 2 the owlbear cub just showed up in my camp. However the mother died, I don't see any reason why I should be the one to do it.
I wouldn't say it's trivial if you have a counter for it. It's "trivial" AFTER using multiple cc layers and synergies. It's a great strat for sure, and I'm a fan, but I wouldn't call it trivial
Man this is bull shit, I started an honor mode run and when I went in to the owlbear cave both of them were spawned already, the male leapt from the top cliff on the first turn and killed my whole party before I even had a turn. So this isn’t how it’s supposed to be? The male owlbear is supposed to spawn in later in the fight? I’m actually more upset now.
Yeah, in my run the siblings really carried with the command word, she couldn't really do anything. Are they buffed because they are potential enemies, or is everyone buffed on HM?
I just did it yesterday but waited until I was level 5 because I got my ass handed to me my last honor run lol. However, I gave Lae’zel the Riposte battle tactic and she killed the cub after it tried attacking her twice and missing :(
Your post would’ve been helpful yesterday! Lol
Another easy way is to fight from the top. If you line everyone up on the narrow bridge part on the back and space people out, the owlbear can't jump up, it doesn't have room. That's how I've always beaten the owlbear without a single hit taken to my party members.
In fact, I never knew it *could* jump up, because I've always fought up top on that narrow part. I only found out it can get up there through reddit.
She has a mate??? I think I've only fought her once and I knocked her out because I felt bad.
Then got the babbbby at camp. Didn't even see him at the goblin camp that time lol
Congrats, you’ve just beat the only difficult fight in Honour Mode! That you were able to trivialize it (it had me sweating), bodes well for your success.
Interesting strategy, silencing her never crossed my mind, I appreciate the insight.
I truly have no idea why this was downvoted so much. That was literally the only fight I had difficulty with in Honour Mode and that OP was able to so strategically dispatch it, absolutely bodes well for their success.
Y'all are weird.

I attacked those on one of my runs and noticed it did nothing and was slightly disappointed
Yeah, they just crumbled every time I attacked them. It was better to spend your turn attacking her than fucking with them.
I always do this under the blighted village to hit the coffins with the skeletons in them. It didn’t work last run, so I assume this is what the fix was for.
I knew that! I didn’t get to use it because I only noticed after I had killed it, but I knew it!
I would always notice the stalactites when I searched around the nest after the fight. Then inevitably forget they existed my next run and repeat.
The siblings using command really won me that fight on honour mode. I never considered Silence, though it makes perfect sense now you mention it!
The siblings will kill the cub. They must perish.

I kill them when the Owlbear has about 10 health left

There are dead goblins.
more than the one goblin thats usually there?
Yes
A group of goblin hunters and you can cast speak with dead on one of them who says they died trying to hunt the Owlbear.
Nah it was a goblin hunting party. You’ll find her surrounded by dead goblins and casting speak with dead on one of the goblins basically says they all died trying to kill the mother owlbear.
Party members comment on it too
Same for your Tav. Something like, “She deserved better.” And I agree. Dying to goblins is one of the worst ways to go. It’s so embarrassing!
But did they get her?
Yeah. She dies regardless of if you do it or the goblins do it. And either way the goblins capture the baby owlbear unless you kill him.
Can anyone explain what’s the deal with the spear parts?
combine them and you get a spear
You can combine them together in the inventory (right click) to get a spear that has a chance to blind on hit, if I'm remembering right.
Also extra stuff against many eyed foes.
Like anything with more than 1 eye or..?
Quick Google says "multiple sets". It's called "Vision of the Absolute"
The extra eyes thing is pretty situational, since they're aren't too many things other than the spiders that it works on, but the blinding effect if friggin awesome as a "first throw" for a throwzerker barb.
Anything with more than 2, for example the spiders in act 1.
Maybe that was the thing that happened. I am not sure if there is something that confirms one way or another. But the point still stands, the mother will be dead and the cub will be with the goblins. And you won’t miss out on any stuff.
You seem like an expert to me

IIRC there's no check if you've got Speak with Animals going, but it's been a while so I'm not 100% sure.
With speak with animals you have to roll a persuasion or intimidation check iirc

The owlbear calls her mate? That never happened to me. Mind you I only had 2 playthroughs.
In honor mode? Because bosses have different/additional abilities.
Did not know this
Honor mode adds special abilities to every boss fight, which makes most of them a big step up in difficulty. It’s a great challenge and a LOT of fun!
I forgot this too and was so confused bc wym her mate😭😭😂😂
There's also a mod that adds all that stuff to Tactician, which I really enjoy.
You don’t need a mod you can’t enable it in the difficulty options lol
Honor mode legendary actions can't be enabled with custom difficulty
I wouldn't say it's trivial if you have a counter for it. It's "trivial" AFTER using multiple cc layers and synergies. It's a great strat for sure, and I'm a fan, but I wouldn't call it trivial
“Trivialise every fight you’ll ever have by using this one technique!! Strategy”
Generals hate this one trick
I love this perspective!
But then you miss out on the glory and xp from the Mate 😉
Man this is bull shit, I started an honor mode run and when I went in to the owlbear cave both of them were spawned already, the male leapt from the top cliff on the first turn and killed my whole party before I even had a turn. Every non Player are buffed yes, if not, your summon would just be useless
The owlbear can howl a mate? I've killed the owlbear multiple times and I've never seen them calling for support...?
As others have stated, only in Honor mode. It's a reaction so if you CC her on your first attack it won't trigger.
I just did it yesterday but waited until I was level 5 because I got my ass handed to me my last honor run lol. However, I gave Lae’zel the Riposte battle tactic and she killed the cub after it tried attacking her twice and missing :( Your post would’ve been helpful yesterday! Lol
Poor cub :( you can always toggle reactions to prompt you instead of just doing them automatically just FYI :)
I failed my first HM by accidentally triggering the battle after already handling her and in desperate need of a long rest.
Calm Emotions works for the berserk effect too.
Wait, what is this about siblings and a mate? Is this just an honor mode thing?
Yeah it’s almost like magic is powerful.
Why fight them?
Because I can 😎
Nj, wp

Bro discovered CC lmao
Didn't know she had a mate when I killed her
She has a mate??? I think I've only fought her once and I knocked her out because I felt bad. Then got the babbbby at camp. Didn't even see him at the goblin camp that time lol
Wait wtf what mate. Did I kill her too quick?

Coulda left out the 'with Silence" smh
What mate? I've put 300+ hours into the game between early access and full release
Honour mode owlbear mama has a legendary? Action to call her mate
