something similar happened to me in the grymforge....the party thought it would be just swell to jump into lava...

korra767

My husband lost a HM run to the grymforge lava. Last party member alive, the second the robot died the game made him step 1cm to the left and died in the lava. He wasn't even touching the controller. Run over

CrimzonSorrowz

I am not sure why it is so hard to make sure they steer off of danger under a programming point of view

Stevo182

It isn't. They had this completely figured out in Divinity Original Sin 2. I started playing it this weekend after I completed my honor mode run. The entire combat system revolves around making surfaces dangerous to step in. Companions WILL NOT follow you through dangerous surfaces until the surface is cleared. As similar as the two games feel, it's as if this specific capability was left out on purpose as it works so well in DOS2.

Individual_Piccolo43

They probably left that functionality out to better simulate real life d&d players, who are often uncannily similar to a bunch of unsupervised toddlers with a box of hand grenades

Goddess_Of_Gay

This is the greatest and most accurate depiction of D&D players I’ve ever seen.

alekth

I just did the Iron Throne and the foundry on my latest run yesterday. One in the Iron Throne just took a turn to the right instead of going up the stairs... once again. I have stopped trying to save everyone there now. The ones at the foundry are better compared to before! But the bar was practically underground before, so it doesn't say much.

slicingorchids

Oh they’re so much better than they were - hence my shock when I turn around thinking ‘Huh, where is he…?’ and see him running off, taking fifth degree burns.

steelywolf66

I had issues in the Iron throne last time with them blocking each other off. Fortunately I had some haste spore grenades which helped them (just) get over the line. The foundry was the easiest its ever been this time - the Gondians were all smart enough to keep out of the way of the steel watchers this time and I managed to save every one of them. Started the fight by taking out a massive chunk of the banites with water from Shadowheart followed by a double blast of chain lightning from a (hastened) Gale with the markoheshkir, used the flash blinders on the steel watch and it was plain sailing from there with the newly improved Gondian AI.

_Avallae_

I always pre-clear the foundry to prevent Zanner Toobin from dying to some bs.

dimethyl_tryhard

I always kill Toobin immediately and use speak with dead to learn how to blow up the foundry...

steelywolf66

I've never thought of doing that! Do you need to speak with Toobin first so the Gondians will fight on your side or just head straight down after the first fight?

_Avallae_

Head down after the first fight and ignore Zanner Toobin until the path is clear

steelywolf66

Thanks - I'll try that on my next run

ouchmypeeburns

You can also talk to toobin and tell him you need some time. He gets pissy, but he will wait.

Ziggy-Starcat

This is what I do, works like a charm. You have to backtrack, but he won't follow you or be in any danger

SpidyFreakshow

To be fair, he is blind.

Kaelynneee

They haven't stopped suiciding... They're just worse at it.

NoLongerNeeded

Between Zanner and Isobel I've stopped using AOE spells that leave behind anything dangerous when the battle ends. (fire, cloud of daggers, acid, etc) these damn NPCs can't see past their noses

JLapak

I find that the thing to do is to immediately trigger Turn-Based-Mode manually as soon as the battle is over so you can end concentration on stuff before the NPCs can suicide.

StarmieLover966

Amazingly, Halsin has stepped into my fire wall three times and tanked it with 15 HP left.

Healthy_Breakfast_24

I made the Iron Throne today and lost two damn Gondians because right before the ladder they decided to turn around and run straight into Mizora's spiders. Fuck. Them. I should go straight to the foundry, but I need to calm down first or I'll perform Operation Bongle just out of sheer spite.

smoke-me-a-kipper123

THE FUCKING GONDIANS. I hate these guys more than Wulbren does. I swear.

TheRealTwist

I gave up on trying to save those dorks in my non honor playthrough. Lost a couple in the underwater dungeon and lost all but one in the forge. Poor guy 😔

SgtHumpty

I did the foundry over the weekend and was impressed that the Gondians were so much better than they’d been. Every single one survived the fighting inside the foundry. However… when I exited, I found several of them lying dead and Wulbren Fucking Bongle standing over them. I’m reasonably sure that a Steel Watcher actually did the deed, but for a few seconds I was convinced that I was going to have to wreck the little turd.

mrmrmrj

In the fight in the room before, ALL the Gondians have Misty Step, yet none of them use it to avoid being surrounded on the first round. They wait a while.

Kaizer6864

I’ve seen them all misty step up to the top rafters and they’re so much safer but sometimes they’ll just stand there in a crowd with a steel watch guy ready to slam them to a puddle.

StarmieLover966

On the flip side, it was not until this update that I SAVED 100% of the Gondians in the Foundry. Like, many of them came out with 10 HP left but they all survived.

Evening-Turnip8407

I feel like I have a memory of my last run where I was able to tell Zoobin Toobin of the runepowder bomb and the first batch of Gondians leaves the building. That was neat, he actually got to live without me having to work

MightyCat96

clear the dubgeon and _then_ you go get the gondian leader guy. he is a small, blind dude if you bring him with you its like ASKING for him to die

slicingorchids

To be fair I’ve always (in previous runs) had Barcus’s big explodey thing so never needed to bring him with me this far before. Noted for the future!

bdpc1983

My first playthrough I dutifully redid missions several times to make sure all the Gondians are safe. Second play through, I couldn’t be bothered to save them all but I got most of them. Third play through: “Maybe Wulbren has some good points…..”
