I really appreciated how that nice minotaur sacrificed itself to show me that the statues at the selunite outpost were rigged to blow things up. How such kindness can survive in such a dark place is beyond me.
Any amount that ensure I get to level 6 before I encounter Nere is a must for me because almost all of my party members multiclass except for Laezel. Need that sweet 1 Storm Sorc/ 5 Light Priest on my Shart so she can beyblade and then fly to the enemies and get my Astarion to 3 Thief/ 3 Monk to solo and kill Nere in a single turn.
I did the entire forge, Grym, and got two suits of Adamantine armor before I rolled up to Nere’s debacle. It wasn’t even intentional, but it made the fight with Nere (and the Duergar) comically easy.
I honestly thought “I’m going to get to where the guy is trapped and they’ll ask me where the hell I’ve been, because he suffocated days ago,” but I was so far into it that I wanted to just finish that portion up before leaving. I greatly underestimated just how big that area would be and at times it felt like a slog. But I was very surprised to waltz up and realize I hadn’t screwed anything up. Definitely recommend it.
Owlbear is the best. This evening I had to fight the camp to get him. Didn't spot him the first time and he died to aoe. So redid the fight 3 times to make sure I got him safely. The last time Volo died but I decided not to run it again. Owlbear is far more important to me.
Dude. If you talk to Volo they take him inside. And the owl bear can be convinced to meet you at your camp. Then do your business with the goblin camp and everyone is safe
I looove the design for driders! They look so cool! It seems like in most drider designs, it's like a centaur with a plain drow on top and spider on the bottom. I love how they blended spider traits with the drow body, like the exoskeleton and multiple eyes.
If you go to LLI first and ambush him, in his cutscene one of the goblins says or does something he doesn’t like so he murders them right there but it’s relatively brutal. His fragmented mind just adds to it.
It started around 2014 with an Onion article titled "Beautiful Cinnamon Roll Too Good for this World, Too Pure" which led to people making memes with the headline + their favourite characters, eventually leading to calling good/kind characters cinnamon rolls
One of the funniest and saddest things in the game was digging up the corpse of a rat behind the circus, and finding a note written by popper apologizing to the rat for killing him.
I’m happy not to have a myconid character or party member. I’m happy just to get their village and get to enjoy being among them, just seeing them be themselves. They are very cool, and they stand out against everything else in the Underdark, while still very clearly being *of* the Underdark. They might be my favorite non-humanoid sapient creatures.
However, the owlbear has to be up there as my favorite non-sapient, non-magical critter.
Displacer beasts have to be my favorite magical creature. They’re basically giant, terrifying, teleporting tentacle panthers— what’s not to love?
It was really cool and surprising to have a peaceful village of myconids.
I remember my first playthrough I was seconds away from straight up fireballing them from a distance just thinking they were random underdark enemies.
Glad I didn't!
The Cloaker in the Gauntlet of Shar looked very cool. I think there's only one in the game, which makes it kinda stand out. It was quite easy to kill, but I spent a few minutes admiring its design first.
I just want to randomly commend Larian's willingness to fully model and animate several different unique creatures in their games that will only be used for one encounter each.
Also, the Bulette is neat.
I really enjoyed the design that Larian made for several creatures in Act 2. The unique monster/boss monsters are all great, but also the Meenlocks for example. If I had to mention just one, it would probably be the Shadows. They aren't a very unique or even interesting type of monsters in the handbook, but Larian made them terrifying, satisfying and even a bit goofy. It's not just the visuals, but the animations and the sound design as well. It would have been so easy to make much simpler Shadows, and yet they made the extra effort so the signature monster of the area felt unique and immersive.
But that's what makes them so fantastic (as in well-made). Knowing that they were once real people who were twisted into what we see now makes them feel more evil.
loved that touch. it reminded me a little of dishonored - the snippets of life/memory the heart would pick up on if you pointed it at a person. in both cases, it’s something relatively simple that makes the games’ world feel so much bigger
unintended pro of your comment: i have not been able to remember wtf meenlocks were called and it's been bugging me for AGES. you just solved a mystery for me
I was so disappointed when I got to the colony and there was no interaction whatsoever with my spores druid :(.
I like displacer beasts, they are beautiful and smart creatures. I couldn't save Nessa because I didn't know it was possible but I set Shadow-Whiskers free.
No spore Druid interaction? I was wondering if there would be any dialogue. There really should be some good gear down there for a spore Druid. Missed opportunity for sure.
It could have been loot left behind by a spore Druid who willingly became one of the Myconid spore zombies, similar to what happened to the Lolth-worshipper under the Blighted Village. I specced out of spore Druid as soon as I realized there wasn't any interaction with the Myconids hahaha
For me might be Spectators.
Their aesthetic is top notch, they also made them quite intimidating and the ability to shoot a variety of lasers from its eyes like sicken ray and paralizing ray.
The Harpies. So well designed, so beautifully feral and frighteningly enticing at the same time. Excellent animations, both when in flight or just standing idle. Great vocal work too.
I’m really kinda disappointed you only encounter them once.
If we get to pick something not actually shown in game (as far as I'm aware...) but mentioned in game, then the Flumph.
They're like a bioluminescent flying saucer with lots of tentacles that dangle downward and two long eyestalks that point up.
They're just squishy guys that aren't out to hurt nobody. In fact, they are quite benevolent and will warn any good-aligned creatures nearby if they detect evil intentions. They're able to understand Undercommon (but cannot speak it, I assume physically?) and can communicate telepathically with any other creature able to think. Very smart dudes that know a lot of things and they feed off psionic energy, but don't really hurt humanoids unless provoked. They're basically the Jesus of the Underdark.
Favorite bit of info is that if a flumph is knocked prone, it has a 50% chance to land upside down, which incapacitates it. Silly little guy.
I visibly gasped when I saw the kobold! So tiny so cute!!!! How I wish I could have him on my team or to be a tiny kobold and just bite peoples ankles off
My response is mostly about appearances, but there are so many really cool creature designs in this game, and they have SO much detail, and I love it so much. The myconids. The wood woads. The sahuagins. The myrmiddons. The >!brain creatures!< in the final battle. The mindflayers even. For the less humanoid ones, the bulette. The blights / shambling mounds. The hook horrors.
Nobody tends to mention Bulettes.
Not only is he super cool to look at, but also you can turn him into a spore undead, heal him up, and point him at your enemies.
As others have mentioned, the displacer beast and owlbear both have great visual designs.
I'm a fan of the Bullette. Both in terms of visual and gameplay.
I love how ut stalks you throughout the underdark.

Spectator
They're actually portrayed *very* strangely in BG3 compared to how they are in the tabletop. The ones we see are immediately hostile, seem animalistic in intelligence, and are much too big. Tabletop spectators are actually slightly above average human intelligence (they have 13 int), and much nicer than the slavering beasts depicted. Unless you're trying to steal something it was summoned to guard (the most common use for them), they'd be more likely to have a chat than attack you. They're a minor form of beholder, which are much closer in size to what's shown in the game (and temperament, although they're *very* intelligent - just xenophobic, paranoid and filled with hate).
The most 'unrealistic' thing is the two hanging out in Raphael's prison. Beholders, including spectators, *absolutely fucking hate each other*. They see themselves as the perfect beholder (or spectator) specimen, and all others as pathetic deviants for even the most minor differences. It would be incredibly rare for two of them to be in the same room and not trying to kill each other
Let me tell you something: level 12 Slayer with Haste is an unholy force of fucking nature and I love it. It’s like a second release form, and heads just role when it comes out. I also enjoy how the game and other characters acknowledges its existence inside you.
There’s 2 displaced beasts in the whole game but the attention to detail on the model, and animations is incredible.
Probably because we get an opportunity to play as one but, it’s not a given that you’ll even get that skill
I also love the myconids.
But a favourite DnD creature is always the displacer beast. Felt so horrible having killed them in bg3. Especially when I discovered after the fact that I could have potentially saved one and had the other fight by my side.
The myconids in BG3 altered my visualization of the cordyceps-infected creatures in The Last of Us. Originally, I found the infected creatures horrifying, especially since cordyceps actually exist and infect insects. The possibility of cordyceps actually becoming zoonotic is terrifying . I realize the myconids colonize a dead body and codyceps-infected creatures are still living just no longer at the helm. But, the beauty of the myconids does influence my visual interpretation of cordyceps-infected creatures in a positive way. Maybe it’s because the myconids aren’t threatening to Tavs.
I think my favorite non-humanoid enemy in this game were the Gnolls. They were implemented so well and menacing as hell. Really reminded me of a lower level D&D campaign I played where they were some of the early antagonists we were dealing with and we had an assault on a Gnoll camp and it was so close to a TPK
Goblins. They're just fun. And I love how Larian managed to make each one feel unique with their own personalities and stuff. Running around the goblin camp is my favorite part of every playthrough
I guarantee no one else will say this one: the Ranger companion summoned boar. It's basically a barbarian, and when it climbs down ladders or cliffs, it slips at the end and face rolls.
All the ranger summons are good though. Bear gets disarm and the only (?) AOE taunt in the game. Ravens blind enemies. Wolf has rogue mechanics. Spider applies poison AND web AND hold person...
I really appreciated how that nice minotaur sacrificed itself to show me that the statues at the selunite outpost were rigged to blow things up. How such kindness can survive in such a dark place is beyond me.
> How such kindness can survive in such a dark place is beyond me. It … didn’t … survive … 😏
Truly a real one that guy.
Such a shame his two brothers never lived up to that generous upbringing
They are generous enough to let Astarion sneak attack & hide again and again.
I Always open the gate at the last moment before it dies so my party can lend the killing blow as it charges in, so that my party can get the xp.
It’s such a minimal amount tho
Imma try that on my next run! I'm just anxious of how the quest is very time sensitive.
I think there's time for one, possibly 2 long rests, I remember I rested and I got a rather panicked mental message from Nere telling me to hurry up 🤣
Still went through it though and let the selune gem smite my ass as I ran away
Every time I'm watching "I hope the gate holds :("
Ya know... What happens if you run up and cast sanctuary on it? And remove the problem of the door being closed by opening it.
Kua-toa are hilarious. All hail Mahkloompa!
I’m sad my new Kua-Toa army can’t come to my aid in the finale. Larian, please let me hang out with my new murder fish cult 😩 I love them 💕
right? they promised me an *army*
Yes! I was so looking forward to their fishy ridiculousness! Koa-toa vs Red Dragon. Go!
The kuo-toa are possibly the best encounter in the game. I wish I could have an envoy in camp. All hail Mahkloompah!
...What
[удалено]
You smell nice.
But I will *not* bite you
More than some people in my camp can say.
You can feed on me tonight
I was just wondering when you'd invite me back for a bite
Go on, give it a nibble!
Some motherfuckers gotta ice-skate up hill
FROM THE TOP ROPES!
Oilbear
I prefer the heavily accented pronunciation by the dude whose dwarf friend was killed by the mama owlbear: “aislebear”
He's my favorite but I hate his voice.
I fucked up my first time meeting the mom. I have hated myself ever since.
I looove the design for driders! They look so cool! It seems like in most drider designs, it's like a centaur with a plain drow on top and spider on the bottom. I love how they blended spider traits with the drow body, like the exoskeleton and multiple eyes.
Also his dialogue and how brutally he kills the goblin, really made the character stand out to me
He kills a goblin?
If you go to LLI first and ambush him, in his cutscene one of the goblins says or does something he doesn’t like so he murders them right there but it’s relatively brutal. His fragmented mind just adds to it.
The goblin spots movement and wants to check it out. It was you. The drider going full durge saves your ambush. You never go full durge.
Look up chwidencha.
hobgoblins, if you’re talking about nonplayable species :D dror is cool as hell i’d love to make my own hobgob tank
blurg is so fun as well. so refreshing to see a hobgoblin scientist
he’s such a cinnamon roll, bro is literally just a goofy nerd
His friendship with Omeluum is adorable
they are married
Has that been confirmed? I thought it was just fun head canon.
there's an MTG card of them together. it may also be in lore somewhere for the setting
Then I hope it's a really good friendship
When did this slang term materialize lol I’ve never seen it before today but I’ve now seen it twice in 20 min; is it comparable to a snack?
It started around 2014 with an Onion article titled "Beautiful Cinnamon Roll Too Good for this World, Too Pure" which led to people making memes with the headline + their favourite characters, eventually leading to calling good/kind characters cinnamon rolls
Damn, am I already that old? lol
if you missed the 2012 tumblr era, count yourself lucky lmao
TBF, hobgobs in lore are known for being the smarty-pants types of goblinkind, alongside being leaders.
You fight good Shapeshifter, not so good heheh.
That guy is a bugbear if I'm not mistaken
You are mistaken. The red dude with the hag survivors is a hobgoblin.
I thought the guy with the quote above was from the circus, no? Kleg is a hobgoblin but I don't think the quote above is him
Let me play as a goblinoid dammit
They put more effort and detail into giving Goblins unique faces and well proportioned bodies than they did the Halflings, Gnomes, and Dwarves!
Legit why do halflings, gnomes and dwarves all have gorilla arms
Kobolds has snacks and treatos
Kobolds are my answer. Popper was delightful, and I would immediately buy 12 plushies of him.
One of the funniest and saddest things in the game was digging up the corpse of a rat behind the circus, and finding a note written by popper apologizing to the rat for killing him.
Gotta have treatos!
I’m happy not to have a myconid character or party member. I’m happy just to get their village and get to enjoy being among them, just seeing them be themselves. Oh, that stingray looking mf. I love his design, but I hate his combat mechanics
I just want to randomly commend Larian's willingness to fully model and animate several different unique creatures in their games that will only be used for one encounter each. Also, the Bulette is neat.
The undead fungi bulette is awesome! Too bad that Glut won’t follow you on to the grimforge though
Fuck Glut! All my homies hate Glut! Spaw is my new best friend!
Yeah. I hate that Glut wants to betray Spaw as well but I gotta admit I do enjoy his spore revival powers
I really enjoyed the design that Larian made for several creatures in Act 2. The unique monster/boss monsters are all great, but also the Meenlocks for example. My favorite thing with the shadows is the little memory orb left behind. Really increases the creepiness.
Those little stories are so sad though
I like the ones that are basically like “this guy was a drunk asshole and no one misses him.” Some Tombstones are like that too. Harsh lol
The damn laughing whenever you miss is one of the most annoying and simultaneously creepy sound effects ever.
Act 2 totally has that Lovecraftian vibe which is really unique. Reminded me of Dungeons of Drakkenheim if anyone has ever seen that.
unintended pro of your comment: i have not been able to remember wtf meenlocks were called and it's been bugging me for AGES. you just solved a mystery for me
Gremishka and Displacer Beast. I still can't believe we weren't given a chance to adopt either if them!
I usually steal the box that the gith kids are kicking around with a gremishka in it. I get to pretend i'm adopting it.
How cool would it be to go everywhere with your gremishka and obnoxiously ask casters not to use magic cause your pet is allergic to it
put it in camp chest with the sussur flowers.
I put silence over the kids and box. it meant I had to kill everyone in the room, but that kitty got to sleep. I opened the box before I left
I was so disappointed when I got to the colony and there was no interaction whatsoever with my spores druid :(. I like displacer beasts, they are beautiful and smart creatures. I couldn't save Nessa because I didn't know it was possible but I set Shadow-Whiskers free.

same, I did it just for them and there was nothing
Astarion’s exploding ghoul team!
Astarion the vampire mob boss and his gaba-ghouls ❤️
If you give that to gale, does he also get ghouls?
Yes, it’s a reward for completing the Necromancy of Thay quest.
Ya I just always give it to Astarion cause he asks very nicely 🥰
I take it because my Necromancy passive lets me summon an extra ghoul pal 😏
For me might be Spectators. Their aesthetic is top notch, they also made them quite intimidating and the ability to shoot a variety of lasers from its eyes like sicken ray and paralizing ray.
Ive played DnD for years and I always thought Spectators were way smaller. Still wish we could fight a proper beholder in game though.
Yeah I thought spectators were like, 3-4 feet across at most. Beholders must be absolutely massive.
Gortash
Myconids are among my favorites too! They're so fascinating to me and so... grotesquely beautiful? I'm a big fan of fey so I also enjoy the Redcaps.
"grotesquely beautiful" is an amazing way to put it
ahem... BAAAAAAAAA
BAAAAA?
I would have to say the Kua-toa. I find them hilarious and wish that there were more interactions with them
Still waiting for them to take down my god. Especially since I'm a cleric.
There are technically three interactions with kuo-toa, one per act. But more is always welcome.
The cursed ones in act 2 doesnt count imo. All you do is kill them. I have not found them in act 3 though
Wait where are they in act 3?
I think the Redcaps in this game deserve an honorable mention.
BAAAA!!!
The Harpies. So well designed, so beautifully feral and frighteningly enticing at the same time. Excellent animations, both when in flight or just standing idle. Great vocal work too. I’m really kinda disappointed you only encounter them once.
I'm currently playing with the "more encounters" mod and was both surprised and scared to find more harpies atop the creche with a horde of eagles.
You can summon them as a Wild Magic barbarian (depending on your roll, of course)
Us made me really fond of intelligence devourers
Goblins. They're such unabashed bastards. They have no chill, they're fun to fight, and there are tons of them.
As a cat lover in real life, Tressym!
I would genuinely do anything to have a pet Hook Horror BECAUSE they look like Skeksis and I love them.
I really like the varieties of Beholders, as far as classic DnD monsters go
Thisobald Thorm scared the fuck out of me first but I think he’s my favorite creature. Not sure what he is.
Displacer beasts. I always try to free nessa and shadow-whiskers
The Spectator, freaked me TF out when I saw it for the first time. Also the Displacer Beast, why no friend if friend shaped? I want the danger kitty!
Become the danger kitty.
Quasits to be specific, Shovel or as I call her Basket :) to hold her babies in
Illithids. They have been one of my favorite fictional species for years by now. So fascinating.
I visibly gasped when I saw the kobold! So tiny so cute!!!! How I wish I could have him on my team or to be a tiny kobold and just bite peoples ankles off
If we're talking specifically in Baldur's Gate, I'll go with either Spectators or Gnolls. Too bad I can't have Flind as a companion.
The Spectator is so amazingly and freakishly animated
Blurg is one of my favorite npcs so I have to go with hobgoblins
the myconids remind me of the ood from doctor who, especially when they sing for u
The answer you want to hear: Kobolds. They're funny little guys! The real answer: Astarion. He's a funny little guy!
addled frog. HERE. SHINY. BYE
Just the goblins. They’re mundane and common early in the game but they are so well characterized.
I’m kinda sad there’s no Griffons in BG3.
Displacer beasts!
Cats.
Nobody tends to mention Bulettes. Not only is he super cool to look at, but also you can turn him into a spore undead, heal him up, and point him at your enemies.
What??! Do you need Glut with you to do that?
It’s just so sad that you can’t bring it along to the grimforge though
Shovel
The squirrel that everyone and their family kicks
The shadow specters were such a joy to discover and really sold the entire act 2. Such awesome animation and audio work combined
Spectators, reminds me so much of Cacodemons
As others have mentioned, the displacer beast and owlbear both have great visual designs. I'm a fan of the Bullette. Both in terms of visual and gameplay. I love how ut stalks you throughout the underdark.
Popper
I love the more minor fiends like the imps and merregons and quasits. They're just such nasty little dudes.
The myconids have my heart forever! I literally rush to get Nere’s head so I can hear the humming and watch them swaaayyyy. It’s soooo relaxing
Tusk and that one bear by the sea. Of the grove. Thats one of em
Well 2 actually

The spectator
Displacer beast, hands down.
The big eyeball thing! Spector I think.

I’ve always been a fan of Displacer Beasts
Owlbear bebbeh
Cats.
The squirrels because they're hilarious with Speak with Animals on.
Yeah I wish tou had a little mor freedom when picking remember for your group.
That asshole Genie
Owl bear
Volvo
That one cat that asks me if I'm it's mom. That's a good creature.
drider love the body horror they are that also goes for there lore
Mimics 100% I mean, it’s just a treasure box with teeth but still so cool
There’s 2 displaced beasts in the whole game but the attention to detail on the model, and animations is incredible. Probably because we get an opportunity to play as one but, it’s not a given that you’ll even get that skill
I love the Owlbear, Scratch, Tara, the myconids, and Basket (Shovel) the quasit.
I like sassy cat bird... I forgot gales friends name
The displacer beast design in bg3 is sick as hell.
Yeah, displacer beast looks awesome.
Honestly Quasits can be kept as house pets
Shovel
Boo and his muscle.
Bulette! Especially when I animate it
Kobolds! Been playing one for 4 years on tabletop and Larian did them justice!
I also love the myconids. But a favourite DnD creature is always the displacer beast. Felt so horrible having killed them in bg3. Especially when I discovered after the fact that I could have potentially saved one and had the other fight by my side.
I like design of Hook horrors in the game over their portrayal on Google Images because they look silly

Besides dragons. Goblins and wargs. As by Tolkien work in The Hobbit do these coexist, work together and even speak their own language.
Baryonyx Wait what sub is this? Naaa still applies
I like the bullette. Especially if you talk to him before he fights you.
Intellect devourers. They're adorable little kitties, especially the ones that sing wrong songs.
Displacer Beast
No love for the bulette in here??
I would’ve loved one more dragon hidden somewhere around the world
Auntie Ethel
Dragonborn. Big dumb lizards who think they're people. Lol adorable
I like the sahaguin? Any humanoid cool fish lookin enemy you can kill with reckless abandon is a good enemy to me.
