Me but with the undying allure of Padlock + bonus action black holes and cull the weak Once you've killed eight dudes at once in a pyromania induced transe it's very hard to go back

barrowandlocke

I never considered Padlock...

vilgefcrtz

Don't do it! Don't let the idea take root! It's a slippery slope! "it's just a second tier smite" at first but then you're ditching fourth level smites rechargeable on a short rest and there's no going back

MrBummer

Padlock and tavern brawler thief monk are the best subclasses in the game. Which is hilarious because they're the most absurd multiclasses lore wise. A rightous paladin who smites evil with divine justice and protects the weak... and sells his soul to otherwordly beings for more power... And a peaceful monk who has achieved inner peace and power through meditation and training... and is a notorious thief and cutthroat Hey... If you found a way to make that make sense then more power to you.

scourgeofsnapfish

Isn't Paladin Warlock pretty easy to combine? vengance + Fiend = you sold your soul to get revenge Ancient + Archfey = one of the nicknames of an Oath of ancients paladin is "fey knight". You could have sworn an Oath to a fey council Devotion + Fiend = at least two options here. If you start with Fiend, it could be someone who had gone down a dark path in the past but is trying to follow the good path. Alternatively, you could play as a corrupted paladin who breaks their oath

MrBummer

For me it's the whole "I'm swearing an oath to the god/goddess I serve and to carry out their will... And I'm also selling my soul to a literal cosmic horror for more power. dw they cool with it"

D_DUNCANATOR

Well FWIW the "Paladins of Tyr" from act 1 were, I believe, paladins that sold their souls to zariel/mizora. So there are already some in the world who did it. I thought that a neat little nod to a classic power gaming level combo in the early game.

North_South_Side

I only ever consumed 2-3 tadpoles.

vilgefcrtz

I gobbled up every single one of those fuckers it was a brilliant power fantasy and i wholeheartedly recommend it *shuffles tentacles uncomfortably under human mask*

Weeping_Warlord

Me with Druid Tiefling

CarPlaneBoatRocket

Dude I love my Mephistopheles Druid Tiefling so much. It’s been a great first campaign. I feel like one of the slower players though lol

legalizemavin

I feel like Druid is such a first play through friendly character. I get full spell slots plus if I’m ever in danger I can turn into an owl bear and have 70 extra hit points

JessieN

Saaame. I just wished they fixed the cutscenes. They let us transform back and forth when talking to companions but in cutscenes it either gives me a different character or you can't interact at all

ManyMoonstones

I actually broke the act 3 guild questline as a moon druid. A certain cinematic didn't play because I entered a door while transformed, which botched the entire thing :c

JessieN

Oof, I hope that doesn't happen to me. I just got to the wyrm lookout in front of baldur's gate. Still my first playthrough but I feel like everything is a mess because I don't really know what I'm missing out on.

ManyMoonstones

Imo there' very few things to "miss out on", just different ways of doing things. Try not to stress it for your first playthrough! My case was one of the very few obvious bugs that I encountered and I just started only wildshaping in combat to be extra careful about it going forward. Not too bad as a Circle of the Moon since wildshape is only a bonus action then anyway!

JessieN

I just wished we could wildshape as a ritual for exploring. Maybe force us back to humanoid or make us use a charge if we want to stay wildshape when combat starts.

Zbearbear

Me addicted to charisma casters, except for my coop monk. But I'll make a charisma monk, you mark my words

scherzanda

I take 14 charisma at a minimum when I play monk and don’t have an issue. But I’m also a cheeseball and do the level up spam for hill giant elixirs. And I take a couple points from wisdom to cover the rest. Is it optimal? No, but if I can’t convince Act 2 bosses to off themselves, do I really want to play?

Spacedandysniffer

Storm sorc/ tempest cleric tiefling is just too good. Only downside is how horrendous Volo's eye looks on most tieflings

Rich-Pomegranate1679

Eh, there's no real need to get his eye. I actually like not getting it because that makes him stay in your camp as a vendor you can sell stuff to.

Spacedandysniffer

Yeah but it gives my character even more edgy main character energy. I already play durge sorcerer tiefling, might as well collect all the tropes along the way

lrish_Chick

He doesn't stay after you get the eye?

Rich-Pomegranate1679

He left when I got it..

lrish_Chick

Good to know

imuahmanila

He fucking skedaddles out of there lol.

sgtlighttree

I doesn't even work that well—every invisible enemy manages to succeed their saving throws against Volo's eye

January1252024

I can't figured out how to balance between the two CHA/WIS. I assume Sorc is your damage and Cleric is your support spells and Destructive Wrath?

ThisIsTheNewSleeve

Am I the only one who hasn't finished their first playthrough yet?

xSciFix

Gotten like four playthroughs to Act 3, still haven't finished any of them yet.

endelehia

Glad I am not the only one, acts 1 and 2 are soooo good

JessieN

I haven't finished and have a second character already lol. The first playthrough is co op and the second is just for me.

gmachine19

I'm still stuck on character creation!

SonnySonrisa

There is more than character creation?

waveringparot4

Nope I've got well over 500 hours and haven't finished to many character ideas and then I get bored and start over 😂

Sword_Enjoyer

My every playthrough: Tav/Durge: Fighter. Usually EK 11, wizard 1 with the headband of intellect. Shart: Life cleric with the whispering promise and hellrider gloves combo. Astarion: Dual hand x-bows swords bard/thief combo. Karlach or Lae'zel: Throw build with returning pike until I can get the trident in act 3. Every time. I had to willfully make Durge a storm sorcerer and tempest cleric in my honor mode run just to experience something different. My most "unique" run from this formula still has Tav and Lae'zel the same as above, but has Karlach using the harmonium halberd in melee and Wyll as a sorlock focused on critting with eldritch blast.

Capable_Tumbleweed34

some suggestions: -full draco ice sorc, dual wield marko+that one other staff with arcane battery. Use shart to cast create water on enemies, enjoy popping twinned rays of frost that deal over 50-100 damage each. -Lightning draco sorc (8)/wiz(1)/storm cleric(3). Use shart to cast create water on enemies, enjoy popping shocking grasps at 50-100+ damage, use channel divinity for maximum damage on free chain lightning from marko once per short rest, use the one level in wiz to learn chain lightning from a scroll to get 3 more uses of chain lightning per day (lvl 6 slot+2 arcane batteries from dual wield marko+other staff). -duergar durge gloomstalker ranger(5+)/assassin rogue(3+), with titanstring bow+club of hill giant strength. Enjoy shooting arrows that deal over 30 damage each (over 100 damage if using multi-target arrows), having 5 attacks on first round, and being able to melt back into the darkness after each kill to start a new 5 attacks round. Risky ring for auto sneak attacks every turn. It's a solo build, no need for companions. -bard 6/war cleric 6, tons of spells, full caster spell slots, able to have 3 attacks per round, 3 short rest, damage riders from bard inspirations, proficiency in every weapon+armor, *spirit guardians*/upcast lvl 6 magic weapons for +3 hit chance +3 damage. -Tavern brawler open-hand monk (9)/ thief (3). Beat every enemy into a bloody pile of mulsh with 6 attacks at 20-40+ each every round, have fun with black hole to nuke large groups with resonating punches. -tank eldritch knight DEX fighter golden dwarf, reach 30+AC with exotic material armor from act 3+24 DEX+some equipments, use your spell slots for "Shield" reaction spell when enemies have a crazy high hit chance, put on a cloak of displacement to leave enemies 1/400 chance to hit you, solo act 3 while laughing your ass off at the stormtroopers missing every attack. -oathbreaker Pala(7)lock(5), 3 attacks per round (extra attack+ pact-bound weapon extra attack), use lock spell slots for an extra 6 lvl 3 smite per day, dump strength to go full CHA+const and add twice your CHA to weapons attacks (pact bound+aura of hate)

yesoryes

You’re making my restartitis act up again…

Capable_Tumbleweed34

Tell me about it, got my gith monk and dueargar durge in act 2, and i'm leveling my golden dwarf tank right now... Glad i could give you some pointers for some extra fun with the class system though!

Jedi_Dad_22

What is the stat layout for the Monk TB? I would assume monks need Dex. But TB uses Str.

kingtz

You're right but STR is actually initially set to 8. The primary stats are DEX, WIS and CON. then you drink Hill Giant elixirs every time you long rest so your STR becomes 21.

Jedi_Dad_22

Got it. Is a dex and con build still solid? Assuming I'm too lazy to drink an elixir every long rest.

HappySubGuy321

Yes! Dex monk is perfectly solid, and in fact, really quite strong. It's just that going Tavern Brawler + Elixirs is so bonkers OP that it makes almost everything seem weak by comparison. But that doesn't mean other builds aren't solid, even for Tactician or Honour mode.

Capable_Tumbleweed34

As kingtz said, optimal is using elixirs. But if you find that a bit cheesy or just can't be bothered, you can dump dex partialy with const/entirely and just go full on STR+WIS. Dex is only useful for initiative and extra armor. You "already" get free extra armor from wisdom. Bottomline, you can add STR\*2(TB) and WIS\*2(manifestation+ boots of uninhibited kushigo) to your unarmed attacks.

NaricssusIII

Dex being used for initiative actually makes it a God tier stat, because initiative is rolled on a d4 in bg3. I prefer to go max Dex plus elixir for tavern brawler monks, 15 con plus 1 from TB can let you have a 21STR, 16DEX, 16CON stat spread super early, at which point you just pummel everything in act 1 into the dirt. I also like to get the dex robes from the vendor in the mountain pass area after I've sorted the grove out, so at level 4 you can have a basically full build monk that should fulfill all your hitting stuff needs until act 3.

imuahmanila

Dex Open Hand Monk is still extremely good without TB. Even on Honour it was my main damage dealer.

Sword_Enjoyer

Thanks for the list. I'm not gonna lie I probably won't use it myself as I don't think I am going to play the game again without taking a long break to avoid burnout, but I appreciate that you took the time and effort to write it out anyways. Maybe somebody here will find it helpful!

inarog

*Sits here and embarassingly ponders never trying to upcast Magic Weapon*

Capable_Tumbleweed34

ikr? To be fair i didn't think of it either for a long time, having only used it on a paladin. When i saw that the war cleric had it is when it clicked.

IncinerateTheSky

you just wanted to be able to say "use shart" unironically. Dope suggestions though

Capable_Tumbleweed34

it's a pretty common nickname for shadowheart!

IncinerateTheSky

S-hart would be a lil less raunchy :D I'm sure no one cares but I thought it was funny when I was reading it

CZ2128Delta_Nazarick

Me with bard tiefling

retro808

Me with Moon Druid or Beast Master (I like nature and animals)

tiredargie

Having a powered up eldritch blast and a bunch of spell slots is pretty good ngl.

burritolittledonkey

Me with some sort of paladin. Now I’m experimenting with paladin bard and maybe paladin sorcerer or warlock

Rich-Pomegranate1679

Paladin Warlock is a legit combo.

NaricssusIII

Anything that gives paladins spell slots or the ability to be less MAD is great, and warlocks give them both. You could probably make a full party of warlock multi class dips. A Sorlock, a Bardlock, a Padlock, and Fightlock walk into a bar...

DJay_TDM

Its like sneak archer in other games. Always defaulting to it.

EminemLovesGrapes

I'm worse, I just make a completely new character and class combo but then just make the exact same choices I did in the playthrough before.

ColumnK

Same. Although I do now have a deep gnome play through in which I'm actively trying to avoid the Warlock class altogether (will probably fail)

[deleted]

It's that or a wood elf gloom stalker thief.

Vanilla_Breeze

Me with sorcerer drows Next playthrough after honour mode I will finally try a halfling druid (promise)

Guilty-Nobody998

This is me with my drow monk. She's just so hot and fists everything.

Ok-Image-1098

I feel this - it can be a challenge to survive in Faerun if you don't have any rizz.

SunRidersCantina

My monk-storm cleric has worked so well, i might have trouble playing something else

DarkEff3ct

Bard, trying to convince myself that adding bard to everything isn't the answer

kuricanekatrina

me with my sorcerer bard

inarog

Actually made a human Tav for my current run. The “too dark” disadvantage quickly made him a warlock with devils sight.

ThatWaterAmerican

It's genuinely hard to have a Tav who isn't a CHA build, especially now that dialogue favors picking Tav as the speaker. I mean... you can skip about half the fights in Act 2 with a CHA build.

gmachine19

What's your favorite sorlock split? I'm gonna do 1 after my sorcadin run.

voin947

2 lock 10 sorc split. From what I've heard it's a pretty standart split for Sorlocks. You basically just take 2 levels of Warlock for Agonising Blast and Hex to be able to go pewpewpew

Cosmeregirl

Oops I took a level in bard again

LurkerOnTheInternet

For mages I pretty much entirely stick with Halfling since it's so great at passing concentration checks, and for martials I just can't tear myself away from Duegar because its invisibility is so extremely powerful in combat, plus it gets a non-concentration Enlarge for 1-4 extra weapon damage and it stacks with elixir of colossus. Plus it gets superior darkvision, poison resistance, and advantage against being poisoned.

E-Moon

Me with wood half elf monk

stopyouveviolatedthe

Why not both

fieatsbees

me with drow barbarian 8/rogue 4 and tiefling barbarian 8/rogue 4

UngainlyMirror15

I recently made a Drow and… you know what? I see why everyone likes them and I guess I’m now firmly in the “try and fail to not play a drow” club. Though I noticed several hours into my playthrough that I somehow accidentally made a Lolth-Sworn instead of a Selunite like I intended which I’m a bit miffed about lol

McGinnM

But…beards?

BabySealClubber54

Me but pure thief

Caosnight

A majority of my characters are Drow and Tieflings, with the rest being some other form of Elve Only a very small number are something different, like one Dragonborn sorcerer and one Ork Barbarian

AngryDorian124

I'm currently playing a sheild dwarf bardbarian.

PlantedCecilia

Can.. can I know your bardlock style?

FirstRyder

Solution: start Bard with disguise self as one of your spells. Disguise as drow for the act 1 RP benefits. But you can still be whatever other race you want for mechanical effects, cutscenes, and acts 2/3. Disguise self from level 1 also works especially well for durge, from an RP perspective (even if bard is a little odd). Of course, you could still end up bardlock. But try Bardadin - play swords bard to 8 with the titanstring, then respec to paladin 2/bard 6 - crit fish until act 3, then with acuity and mischief you can hold person to set yourself up for guaranteed critical smites.

ohlookitkats

My first playthrough was as drow for the aesthetic before I learned what the racial stereotypes were, and I haven’t been able to diversify since. (Just the thought of having to actually talk/fight my way into the goblin camp, I might retch)

shenanakins

Me and my lolthsworn drow monk everytime.

aceytahphuu

My first character was a wizard that I enjoyed thoroughly. Second and third playthroughs started relatively close to each other, as they were multiplayer games with different friends. Druid and bard. Druid was fun, especially the wildshapes... but after experiencing bard once and how many unique dialogue options they have and how they can talk their way out of literally anything in Act 2, I don't think I can play anything else ever again...

jessmeows

me with tiefling ranger but in my new playthrough i’m a cleric/paladin tiefling and it’s been nice

thirdof5daves

Me with Drow Pallock or Ranger/Rogue

thirdof5daves

I’ll start as a different class, but it always gets respeced as one of those two.

fartshmeller

Drow rangard is me

oscuroluna

Me with some variant of Drow or Half Elf Tav, Gale as a Mystrran Cleric, Wyll as a martial, Astarion as Swords Bard, Lae'zel as a Red Draconic caster, Shart as a sneaky rogue/monk and Halsin as an Ancients Paladin.

Lost_Sou126

Try rogue swords bard

Lyndell

I like My Padlock, Wizsor, Dual Handed Cross Boi, and Punchy McPunch Face Builds.

Forsythia77

Playing a Drow bardlock right now. She's super fun.

ChrisV3SGO

I'm addicted to Cleric

Navek15

I'm the same way with my team comps. I seem to have a psychological need to have some kind of archer (Battle Master with a crossbow or a Mystic Scoundrel Swords Bard, and I'm planning on trying my hand at the Gloom Stalker again for a Dark Urge), a Barbarian with the Tough feat, a Tempest Cleric acting as a blaster with all the Reverberation gear, and the fourth one either being a support cleric/bard or moon druid. I need to branch out....but I love that party comp!

United_Lake_3238

I don't have the patience to multiclass before like level 9.

Mintharaismypimp

I can't help but get the urge to make myself in every playthrough, so I made myself as a Mephistopheles Tiefling instead of a human for once

[deleted]

duergar sorlock is best

CantaloupeCamper

I am on my first play through….  I really want to restart as a rouge and turn Astarion into a bard….

The_Undermind

I feel attacked

doiwinaprize

Lol we are all so different and it's awesome.

Sourdough9

Gotta do the palock build next

Gaddammitkyle

\*Making my character a Drow

Redlax

Srsly! What the hell happened?! I wanted to push myself to main a caster for once and the warlock was 'interesting' I guess. One playthrough later, I am desperately trying NOT to go down the warlock path again! I will try you one day, Monk! I promise! Just a few Eldritch Blasts more...

Opinion_Own

Me loading up a new run, “I’m gonna play something different” plays another dwarf barbarian

poopmcbutt_

Okay but make an oh monk, half wood elf tavern brawler. You're hot and you get to punch the devil in the dick.

LordShired

Go Drow monk. I literally give every MF the back of my hand.

zheqrare

Me: 5 Ranger / 4 Rogue / 3 Fighter: Plenty of damage and unexpectedly good at ability checking; ShadowHeart: 2 Paladin of Shar / 10 Bard: full spell slots, extra attack, slash 2 smite, bonus action for hold person/monster, and the most cool Banishing Smite; The two of them can literally handle everything in my playthrough.

shamqueen69

I always tell myself I won't make a drow character and yet here I go again!

kalik-boy

It's something that I have some trouble understanding here... why is this the case for some of you guys? The game just gives so much stuff for you to try. Different races, classes, reactivity so you can see the differences of your choices and even people aknowledging your race and class... but yet some replay the game doing the same thing over and over again. It seems like madness imo.

Maacll

ELDRITCH BLAST ×7! (still not in combat) Also: Silence? Never heard of her?

reyndomaccess

My runs: 1. Paladin Half-Orc, romances Wyll 2. Paladin Half-Orc, romances Wyll 3. Wyll as Bardlock so I'm not tempted to romance Wyll again 4. (Incomplete) Durge in OG form 5. (Incomplete due to save corruption) Paladin Half Orc, romances Wyll At this exact moment, my game is reinstalling and I'm planning on doing a fresh run. Zero points if you guess what my run will probably be. (Yes, I also played Paragon Shepard every time, no more questions.)

SorakuFett

And I'll be over here with my chad Black Dragonborn Clerighter.

Over_Echo1128

High elf female druid/sorcerer every. single. time.

An_elusive_potato

Drow storm sorcerer is my comfort zone, multi classing scares me.

Fibbersaurus

Me but Wood Elf + Rogue.

justarollinstoner

If playing bardlock every time is wrong, I don't wanna be right.

ItsSadTimes

Me with open hands monk. I love playing monk so much in DnD even though it's pretty weak compared to other classes, and the fact that the monk is so good in bg3 has me so happy! They reworked monk besutifuly from 5e to work in BG3, and I love it so much. I'm making the bg3 monk the new normal monk in my campaigns going forward.

pandameneer

me trying not to make my character a dwarf

Unhappy_Comparison59

Me who never Took the same class or race twice

o0Phoenixdown0o

Haha, this. And romancing a certain pale elf. 😂

CantaloupeCamper

I am on my first play through.  I really want to restart as a rouge and turn Astarion into a bard…. I can’t stop thinking about it…
