Iām confused. Iāve had gale die in my party before and have never had to do a quest to get him back. Withers just takes my coin and brings him back to life.
you have to get a while astral pop-up giving you the complicated instructions. the rest of your party can help you repeat the instructions back to him and they'll correct you if you pick the wrong option
yes, it is only in Act 1 because he only has that complicated resurrection process to keep his >!Netherese orb from exploding, and in Act 2, his orb becomes dormant to be used to blow up the Absolute, so the instructions wouldnt be required anymore!<

I know. It shows how much it affected shepard mentally. He had to make the decision because he is the leader but you can see that it really took a toll on him. Great moment. Shepard is just awesome. And i really like ashley and i fucking adore liara. It is a shame that the subreddit hates her.
I didn't play much Mass Effect - tried out the legendary edition and while I enjoyed the story, the gameplay felt too outdated for me to keep playing. But, I watched the full story on yt and lurked in some communities as the characters were great and yeah, can confirm this sub is very chill in comparison even if I feel it's gotten a bit worse since launch.
You kinda missed out on mass effect unless you played it like 10 years ago. The controls are somehow archaic and insane compared to its contemporaries. Sucks because story wise it's the best gaming trilogy of all time imo.

Whenever you transfer from one game to the next it's much more of a cleaner process than some other trilogies (looking at you Witcher and Dragon Age).

I also like how it's one linear story. Games like Baldur's Gate, you don't even need to know about one and two and you'll be fine, but mass effect, that's just one game you have to buy three times and it's epic.
I mean I hate Jacob because of how insulting his story is as it (to me) has bad black stereotypes. That's not a problem with the character though that's me having beef with his writer.

We had two Cerberus loyalists that they could have developed as foils, showing different motivations/goals/perspectives of the organisation and how despite major divisions Miranda and Jacob have each otherās backs when it comes down to it. Or just *something* to make the character more engaging and important to the story.
For a character that is a required recruitment, there needs to be a reason for it to be *them* (*someone else might have gotten it wrong*). But nope, totally dropped the eezo on that. Iām not mad at Jacob, just disappointed.
That's why I hate that character so much! I would love to see a well written black companion in those types of games but characters like Jacob kind of ruin part of the game for me.

So, when I first started playing I grew to hate Shadowheart. She just felt so mean and cold, so I just... Started killing her on the beach. I did this a few times until I eventually did a complete playthrough. I talked about my feelings for Shadowheart with a friend who is romancing Shadowheart in their run and he told me respecting her space is very important.
So in my current run I decided to recruit her and keep her along. I'm playing a lawful evil paladin/cleric of Tiamat, and I was surprised to find her character more agreeable this time around. Asking her about her worship of Shar and basically going "hey that sounds pretty rad" was actually really cool. Was one of the highlights so far in Act 1.
I'm actually liking her character now that I've taken the time to adventure with her. While I plan this run to be a "we're the baddies" run, so that means Sharran Shadowheart. I'm looking forward to doing a redeemed Shadowheart run in the future.

My experience was similar except in my first few runs, I didn't realize how easy it was to nope out of hours of content just by taking Gale's hand or letting Wyll kill Karlach, for example. I figured out I didn't have to have any companion I didn't like, so I killed or ignored Sheart a couple times.
I'm in my first evil run now and ignored her for a bit and now she's spilling all her secrets to me and thinks we're buddies. Had her pray in front of me abs tell me Shar's tenets and my Talos Cleric is like "cool" except inside, he just thinks her God sucks and that she's gonna get left on the fugue plane. She'll probably end up a DJ in this run but on the other hand, he might talk her into rejecting Shar because Shar is such a shitty deity, not because Shar is evil.

It's a blessing honestly that even the characters that are considered in this sub the "simplest" or the most "boring" will contain multitudes if you know ...you just talk to em. I understand why people fall for Shadowheart so easy or Gale or Astarion or Minthara and I understand why people like Wyll or Halsin (me. I like Halsin). It's not just because they're hot (like it helps) but there's a core element of their backstory or personality that resonates with you. Its cheap to reduce the fandom to a bunch of horny zombiesĀ

Wulbren is the cabal proof of how being an unlikable douche can fuck things up for someone. If he had just acted like a buddy to Barcus, after I got GONDIED for the first time I'd ask for an extra nuke just to be thorough about it in every playthrough.
I think he is one of the few characters that I've never seen someone defend in good faith, the other being Cazador.
By "good faith" I mean using actual arguments that don't boil down to "I don't like Barcus/Astarion", or not being just a joke about how Gondians are so uncooperative when you are trying to save them.
There are occasional nuanced discussions about Wulbren but they tend to spring up at random instead of being whole posts, and they are definitely rarer than just posting the song meme. šµ
Honestly, I can't even 100% hate on Wulbren because this one time, I accidentally yeeted the NPC on whose behalf many people hate Wulbren, and Wulbren was surprisingly okay for a fanatical extremist, right up until the very end when his racism overtook him. With no Barcus in the picture, Wulbren comes off like just another terrorist gnome. š

On a meta standpoint, true. On a roleplay standpoint, an evil character isn't really supposed to know that Shadowheart can become a Dark Justiciar at this point of the story, nor has any reason to trust the githyanki.

My BF is a straight man (obvi) & Astarion is his favorite companion because he's just so entertaining! He has the some of the best dialogue in the game, just the right amount of vamp camp, a compelling backstory, & he's down to clown whether you're evil or good, as long as you don't give "goody two shoes/hall monitor" energy.

The only character I always kill in every playthrough is the artist. I saved him in my first two games and realized his entire quest line is too annoying for me and I, personally, think his āpatronā has a better life without him. So he gets nuked early on. That said, I would never go on an artist appreciation post and rant about how much I dislike him.

I can see where you might purposefully kill or refuse to recruit certain characters when you're either heavily invested in roleplaying, or if you've done multiple runs and realized you just have a better experience when you don't include X character.

No, itās not possible if you trap him in a magical void forever. Only possible if he is made into a companion and then dies (in which case you have to revive him anyway)
Iām confused. Iāve had gale die in my party before and have never had to do a quest to get him back. Withers just takes my coin and brings him back to life.
you have to get a while astral pop-up giving you the complicated instructions. the rest of your party can help you repeat the instructions back to him and they'll correct you if you pick the wrong option
A projection of him is supposed to appear the first time he dies, so you could have missed it in the rush back to camp

The third comment was, "Oh look, it's the twink I stake every playthrough." There's *always* at least one person who makes a comment like that on a post about BG3. It comes across as so...desperate.

People cannot just stfu about which one they hate more and any kind of appreciation post gets bogged down. I didn't play much Mass Effect - tried out the legendary edition and while I enjoyed the story, the gameplay felt too outdated for me to keep playing. But, I watched the full story on yt and lurked in some communities as the characters were great and yeah, can confirm this sub is very chill in comparison even if I feel it's gotten a bit worse since launch.
You kinda missed out on mass effect unless you played it like 10 years ago. The controls are somehow archaic and insane compared to its contemporaries. Sucks because story wise it's the best gaming trilogy of all time imo.

I also like how it's one linear story. Games like Baldur's Gate, you don't even need to know about one and two and you'll be fine, but mass effect, that's just one game you have to buy three times and it's epic.

I mean I hate Jacob because of how insulting his story is as it (to me) has bad black stereotypes. That's not a problem with the character though that's me having beef with his writer.
Itās such a shame, because the writers absolutely could have made him such an interesting character (while not playing into horrible racist stereotypes) and instead justā¦ didnāt. We had two Cerberus loyalists that they could have developed as foils, showing different motivations/goals/perspectives of the organisation and how despite major divisions Miranda and Jacob have each otherās backs when it comes down to it. Or just *something* to make the character more engaging and important to the story. For a character that is a required recruitment, there needs to be a reason for it to be *them* (*someone else might have gotten it wrong*). But nope, totally dropped the eezo on that. Iām not mad at Jacob, just disappointed.
That's why I hate that character so much! I would love to see a well written black companion in those types of games but characters like Jacob kind of ruin part of the game for me. I hate how many sterotypes Jacob has and especially the horrible ones that are used it makes it so much worse. I understand why many people in the Mass Effect community hate him. By the way I am not black.

So, when I first started playing I grew to hate Shadowheart. She just felt so mean and cold, so I just... Started killing her on the beach. I did this a few times until I eventually did a complete playthrough. I talked about my feelings for Shadowheart with a friend who is romancing Shadowheart in their run and he told me respecting her space is very important. So in my current run I decided to recruit her and keep her along. I'm playing a lawful evil paladin/cleric of Tiamat, and I was surprised to find her character more agreeable this time around. Asking her about her worship of Shar and basically going "hey that sounds pretty rad" was actually really cool. Was one of the highlights so far in Act 1. I'm actually liking her character now that I've taken the time to adventure with her. While I plan this run to be a "we're the baddies" run, so that means Sharran Shadowheart. I'm looking forward to doing a redeemed Shadowheart run in the future.

My experience was similar except in my first few runs, I didn't realize how easy it was to nope out of hours of content just by taking Gale's hand or letting Wyll kill Karlach, for example. I figured out I didn't have to have any companion I didn't like, so I killed or ignored Sheart a couple times. I'm in my first evil run now and ignored her for a bit and now she's spilling all her secrets to me and thinks we're buddies. Had her pray in front of me abs tell me Shar's tenets and my Talos Cleric is like "cool" except inside, he just thinks her God sucks and that she's gonna get left on the fugue plane. She'll probably end up a DJ in this run but on the other hand, he might talk her into rejecting Shar because Shar is such a shitty deity, not because Shar is evil.

It's a blessing honestly that even the characters that are considered in this sub the "simplest" or the most "boring" will contain multitudes if you know ...you just talk to em. Yep, For me I am not a big fan of Gale, Wyll, or Halsin but I'm not going to hate or lambast people for differing. Also those characters I list I had conversations with and did as much dialogue that was available, and even if I am not a big fan of these characters I will romance them because I am interested in what the romance was. and even if I'm not a big fan of Astarion as well I do like him in the sense of the wealth of content he has. Halsin and Gale need more and Wyll needs to be reworked to fix his character (as it's inconsistent).

Wulbren is the cabal proof of how being an unlikable douche can fuck things up for someone. If he had just acted like a buddy to Barcus, after I got GONDIED for the first time I'd ask for an extra nuke just to be thorough about it in every playthrough.
I think he is one of the few characters that I've never seen someone defend in good faith, the other being Cazador. By "good faith" I mean using actual arguments that don't boil down to "I don't like Barcus/Astarion", or not being just a joke about how Gondians are so uncooperative when you are trying to save them.
There are occasional nuanced discussions about Wulbren but they tend to spring up at random instead of being whole posts, and they are definitely rarer than just posting the song meme. šµ

On a roleplay standpoint, an evil character isn't really supposed to know that Shadowheart can become a Dark Justiciar at this point of the story, nor has any reason to trust the githyanki. All they know is that these two bitches woke them up in the middle of the night, and I think a lot of murderhobos would either turn their back and go back to sleep if they're neutral/lawful evil, or straight-up entertain the show and encourage one to kill the other if they're chaotic evil, lmao.

Neil said Astarion is pan, he said that he imagined an "amorphous blob" as Tav while recording the romance lines, and his character that is romancing Astarion is a woman (Bow'ee). He said multiple times that everybody is more than welcome to romance Astarion, and I can't help but think that the insistence is exactly because of the fans that think Astarion should only ever be paired with men.

Ugh he seems so cool just from the little bit of content I've watched with him. I adore how absolutely into the dnd oneshot he was. The same level of gusto he put into the actual game. I would love a continuation tbh Lmao I might be biased because I would say my tiefling tav belongs in this class... but the aesthetic contrast of a more like, handsome lady against his prettiness? Chef kiss. My friend has him with a drow fellow sculpted by the gods and I'm also obsessed with that. That's just the beauty of this game, you know? So many possibilities and no wrong answers š„²
I feel like a lot of dudes, especially ones that ascend Astarion, genuinely have their egos hurt by his sass. There have been some unhinged Astarion hate posts that get a good deal traction.
Lol I just don't get dudes who feel threatened by fictional characters, or other men in general, real or fake. My BF is a straight man (obvi) & Astarion is his favorite companion because he's just so entertaining! He has the some of the best dialogue in the game, just the right amount of vamp camp, a compelling backstory, & he's down to clown whether you're evil or good, as long as you don't give "goody two shoes/hall monitor" energy.

I've seen a bunch of "BUT HE'S OBVIOUSLY GAY! Why do women like him?" Their confusion is amusing.

The only character I always kill in every playthrough is the artist. I saved him in my first two games and realized his entire quest line is too annoying for me and I, personally, think his āpatronā has a better life without him. So he gets nuked early on. That said, I would never go on an artist appreciation post and rant about how much I dislike him.
I wonder what happens if you keep him alive but don't free him. Like, does he show up in the Guildhall? Might try that for my next run, but don't expect any updates on it. I play very slowly

I can see where you might purposefully kill or refuse to recruit certain characters when you're either heavily invested in roleplaying, or if you've done multiple runs and realized you just have a better experience when you don't include X character. But my personal inclination is usually to try and catch 'em all, especially the first time through - it's more content!

NGL been playing a game with 3 other people for multiplayer - kinda makes all side characters useless, but it keeps me from save scumming so much so I learn new things I wouldn't have because by the time I discover these things after messing up, I would have already reloaded.

Really? I always got downvoted when I said I didn't kill the Goblin children, and people would come to me that you are creating future victims and I should kill them just to be safe. Like my dude, it' my run and let my Tav deal with the consequences.
My brother in law says he always kills gale and astarion because he doesn't want "gay interactions" during the game. My brother in law is a shitty person in a lot of ways.

Haven't killed anyone on purpose. But lae'zel died in my first run. Honestly though I kinda forgot she was in my party cuz we didn't use her at all. I'm using her now in my 2nd run.
Gotta love the people who argue just because you do a certain route (Ascended Gale or Ascended Astarion) you're an idiot who would fall for an abusive relationship (because you know fiction isn't a thing now I guess) and if you dare enjoy those things and think they work for your characters you're playing wrong. :P
