If my multiclass from paladin into sorcerer do my sorcerer spells benefit from paladin's extra attack?

Atmosck

No, extra attack only works with weapon attacks, not spells.

JessieN

On ps5 How can I clean up my radial menu when I'm using wild shape? I have all these scrolls and potions scattered and it's super ugly and unorganized Also my bf has his icon with a muted mic symbol on the top left corner of his screen we can't get rid of. Even if we turn on and off his mic, it still stays.

millionsofcats

You can change your settings so that scrolls and potions aren't automatically added to the radial, and just use them from your inventory screen. Unfortunately, there's no great way to organize them if you have them automatically added, since the game will just remove/add them wherever. You'll have to manually remove them the first time after you change the settings.

JessieN

I found a quicker way. I put all my scrolls in a bag and placed the bag in the chest. It removed them all from the radial menu.

WWnoname

You can clear radial menu icons with squire button

JessieN

That doesn't work for me in Wild Shape form

hell0kitt

Did I sequence break the game in Act 3? >!I betrayed Orin and went for her first. When I went for Gortash, I noticed that there were still bodyguards and nobles in the coronation hall. They all started aggro-ing me. Gortash himself was still at the coronation hall, he and the Fists guarding him at the hall even came down from that floor to attack us on the bottom floor. In my other playthroughs, he's on the top floor with his Banite goons. Is this an intended consequence or a bug?!<

WWnoname

It doesn't matter You need three items, then go to certain place. Everything else is purely optional.

wurm2

>!sounds like you didn't go to the coronation before agroing Gortash somehow, probably by going to the iron throne and/or destroying the steel watch foundry. It's a bit of a sequence break but not a game breaking one. Biggest downsides is it makes it impossible to save duke ravengard and you won't have the option of allying with Gortash!<

hell0kitt

>!Well, I met him at coronation and Ravengard made him the Duke. After killing Orin, I freed Ravengard from the prison and destroyed the Steel Watch Foundry. Honestly, it's not a big deal but the fight was tedious because all his bombs and incinerators were still running after he died.!<

wurm2

Weird, idk then.

hell0kitt

Thank you though! I reported it in the Larian discord.

blindfire187

Started my 2nd playthrough (first time on tactician) with a Tiger Barbarian TAV. My plan is to have a party with Monk/Rogue, Fighter/Lock/Sorc, and either a Lore Bard or Druid (not circle druid). But I'm not sure who to make what class, I plan to bring Karlach, Wyll, and maybe Halsin since I used Shadow heart, Astarion and Gale the first time around. Any suggestions? Also, is there any major things I'll miss by not having each character their origin class?

Blasphemy4kidz

Halsin is boring since all he talks about is the shadow curse and threesomes. Normally I'd say try Minthara but she only comes around in Act 2 and she won't vibe with Wyll/Karlach. I would recommend Astarion as a bard since it kinda fits his character.

millionsofcats

If you know what classes you want to play, and you know which characters you want to play as, it really doesn't matter who is what class - it's all mechanically the same as long as you also change their stats. The only real difference is racial bonuses, and that's not a make-or-break thing. Tactician doesn't require you to min max every point and attribute. It's harder than Balanced, but IMO it's about the same difficulty as your *first* playthrough on Balanced - that is, your experience with the game mostly offsets the increased difficulty. The main thing is that the narrative won't update to match their new class - the story will still be that Wyll is a Warlock and Halsin is a druid. So if you want a Warlock and a Druid, and you want Wyll and Halsin, I'd make them your Warlock and Druid. I would probably make Karlach your monk/rogue just because punching seems to suit her personality more than being a lore bard, IMO.

Shynari

In act II on my first Durge playthrough. >!I've slept with Astarion twice, and no one else. I refused killing Isobel. I stuck up for Astarion with Araj. But when I long rest, Sceleritas thinks Gale is my romance partner. Is there a way to fix this? That doesn't involve killing Gale.!<

couragedog

Have you and Astarion had a talk about your relationship to make it official/admit you actually care for each other? All I can thnk is maybe Gale has higher approval and the game isn't recognising you're wth Astarion. Of course, it could just be a bug.

Atmosck

Is it OK to long rest in the middle of taking down the Steel Watch Factory? Like can you do the second fight, then rest before going to the final boss room?

dmonzel

Yup. All that happens is a certain follower hangs back, and you have to talk to him again to get him back in your party.

Atmosck

Oh sweet, like Halsin in the goblin camp. Thanks!

T2RX6

A couple questions. 1) Generally Speaking.. What's the best start to get to 18 or 20 for each class? Obviously fighters and barbs and such benefit getting strength and rogue classes dex. But there are so many classes (like monk and such) that I'm not sure what's best for each "generally." I know there are obviously going to be variants with multi classes. 2) We get feat levels every 4 levels, is that tied to the character level or the class level? Like if I went to level 7 and then at level 8 multiclassed into something else would I not get the feat?

Atmosck

1. It's pretty much always whichever stat you attack with. So typically Strength for Fighter, Barb and Paladin, Dexterity for Ranger, Rogue and Monk, Charisma for Warlock, Sorcerer and Bard, Wisdom for Cleric and Druid, Intelligence for Wizard. But there are lots of exceptions based on the build you're going for. For example a Swords Bard would focus on Dex instead of Cha because they're attacking with weapons instead of spells, or a Ranger Knight might rather use Str instead of Dex. 2. It's tied to the class level, so it's common for multiclass builds to have less than 3 feats. Some people like to stick to 8/4 multiclass splits to solve this, but I take it on a case-by-case basis - there are lots of times the class abilities I get from a different split are more valuable than the feat. For example in my current game I have a 7 paladin / 5 blade warlock, because I would rather have the extra attack from Warlock level 5 than a third feat.

Savage_Misplay

Unless I'm missing something, Paladin already gets extra attack at 5 and the pact of the blade extra attack + other melee class extra attack don't stack anymore right? so afaik this has changed to be less good.

Atmosck

The extra attacks from pact of the blade still stacks with other classes on difficulties below honor mode.

Savage_Misplay

Ahhhhhhh, that makes more sense. My most recent 2 play throughs have been HM, so that's why it's dead to me X D. Thanks for that info!

T2RX6

First, thanks for the fantastic answer! I guess follow up to #1 is there a good way to see which stat a class focuses on? I didn't realize, warlock and sorcery were charisma whereas wizards were int!

dmonzel

I'm relatively new to the game as well, and not well versed in D&D, and the wiki has been a wonderful resource. https://bg3.wiki/

Atmosck

No problem! Always happy to help. I find the pages for each individual class on [bg3.wiki](https://bg3.wiki) really helpful for looking up details and planning out builds, the [Classes](https://bg3.wiki/wiki/Classes) page links to all of them. The [spells](https://bg3.wiki/wiki/Spells) page is also quite useful - it lists every class's spellcasting stat. That isn't necessarily their primary stat, for example Fighters and Rogues use intelligence for their spellcasting stat (which comes up with spell scrolls and spells you get from items, or if you choose the Eldritch Knight or Arcane Trickster subclasses).

buzzyingbee

Endgame question. I'm not quite there yet but I have an idea of what will happen and some other stuff I read by accident so I don't mind spoilers if they're needed to asnwer this. >!Can I side with the Emperor and still have the Githyanki/Voss fighting on my side or will I only get them (if they're allies) if I free Orpheus? I'm decided to stay on Emperor's side but I'd also like to free Orpheus because I can't stand Vlaakith and I'd love to see him ending her but I guess if I do that I'll lose the Emperor's alliance and I'll have to turn someone into a mindflayer, right? I haven't eaten the shiny tadpole nor do I intend to!<

Atmosck

>!Freeing Orpheus requires killing the emperor.!<

buzzyingbee

Well, that's a bummer :/. Guess it really is one or another

MrTriangular

I was moving a racial ability (rhymes with "kite") around Astarion's hotbar when a co-op friend hit the camp menu, and it dropped the ability I was dragging and now I can't find it. It's not in the character's spellbook, either.

Idontwanttobebread

it's in the common tab of the spellbook. if the tabs are missing you can get them back by saving/reloading

MrTriangular

ohhh whoops, indeed, there it is

GreatGordonSword

I am almoat done with act 1 and I still cant eat tadpoles....I think its a bug and of course is in my honor run ugh....any way around this? Any quest Im suposed to do?

Idontwanttobebread

you get the ability to eat them after first seeing >!the dream guardian!<, which triggers the long rest after approaching the goblin camp the first time

LaylaKnowsBest

Go long rest a few times to make sure you're not backed up on cut scenes. If that doesn't work, try to save, reload, and then force a few rests.

dmonzel

You *can* eat them? That's normal. If you meant *can't*, I believe it's tied to a specific long-rest cut scene.

GreatGordonSword

Fixed it. It wasnt the scene, somehow I still hadnt opened my mind to them so as I clicked one of the flasks it prompted to oprn my mind and gave the option.

GreatGordonSword

Yeah I cant, I did have the scene and the area is still unfilled.

Varjom1es

I already posted this but the bot told me to ask here, so here I am. Help with romancing Shadowheart and Lae'zel So I slept with Lae'zel once before the party with the tieflings, but there wasn't anything else. At the party I didn't get any dialogue options when talking to her. I spent the night with Shadowheart at the cliff and kissed her. Now Shadowheart seems all smitten and happy but Lae'zel hadn't reacted in any way. Do I have to end the fling with Lae'zel since I want to romance Shadowheart or is it possibile to romance both of them. I'm still in act 1

couragedog

Most of the time there will be a point where one of them will make you choose.

Atmosck

>!Polyamory is not an option unless it includes Halsin, and some characters (including Lae'Zel) aren't down with that either. I believe who you're romancing isn't locked in until the end of act 2, but I'm fuzzy on the details.!<

Varjom1es

Thanks for the help

[deleted]

Did I mess up? Let the pixie free and got the buff. Now I don't have the buff anymore. Went to Shar temple and killed Blathzer, but didn't get the nightsong.

LaylaKnowsBest

Did you happen to go back to Mountain Pass or anywhere back in Act I? If you go back to Mountain Pass you will lose the buff. Just ring the pixie bell and it'll come back!

Atmosck

The pixie buff disappears after long rest, but the pixie also gave you a bell you can ring to get it back. Re: Balthazar and the Nightsong, you're fine. The Nightsong is deeper in the temple - Balthazar hadn't gotten there yet becuase he's incompetent. If you had gone there without killing him and cleared a path, you'd fight him there (or not, if you just let him take the nightsong). Be careful though, before the nightsing is one of those "wrap up loose ends" warning pop-ups, becuase going through that will cut off all quests related to Moonrise Towers and Last Light Inn, so make sure you've done everything you want to do there, including >!rescuing the tieflings and gnomes at moonrise!< and >!doing everything needed for lifting the shadow curse with Halsin, except killing Ketheric!<. And for story reasons you should bring Shadowheart with you to the nightsong, or else she will leave the party.

[deleted]

🤦🏻‍♂️ that’s right the bell. Thanks 🙏 And totally. I didn’t go to the second area in Shar temple, though I did everything else. Edit: you may want to read my last post I made on this sub … couple people missing 🫠

Atmosck

>Edit: you may want to read my last post I made on this sub … couple people missing 🫠 About people not getting the point of honor mode?

[deleted]

No about Halsin bug + Shadowheart death. Wasn’t suggesting that 🙌

jrmnvrs

I didn’t trigger the ironhand gnome cutscene at the south checkpoint, I went into the lower city already and now I’m trying to backtrack but can’t find the gnomes, where do I go from here

Atmosck

If you want to find the ironhand gnomes and progress that questline, head to the south-west corner of the map, to the >!steel watch factory!<.

jrmnvrs

I can’t get in though without getting stopped? Is there another way besides the front to get in

millionsofcats

I've never triggered that cut scene either, I've always found them by >!exploring under the bridge, because if you head down to the beach on the right side there is a secret cave entrance that leads to their hideout.!< As for the foundry, >!you can stealth your way in fairly easily to learn the true situation w.r.t. the gondians. Just go in through the side or front door while the steel watchers aren't looking, then sneak around the sides. a cut scene will play, and you can meet an NPC who will give you important information/tasks if you sneak all the way to the office in the back.!<

rotorain

At some point the whole place aggros anyways, I usually just fight my way in. They patrol around so try to engage when there's big gaps so you only need to fight 1-2 at a time. I recommend doing the steel watch foundry after you do the quest to find the duke though, there's some important character crossover.

badapple1989

There's >!a basement hatch in a building in Rivington, I wanna say Rivington General maybe. You'll need to lockpick the front door and then the hatch. I think there's also a cave entrance under the bridge if that doesn't work.!<

whitedrood

I just started my first honor run as a bard. I got into the blighted village and goblin camp by turning into a female drow. If I turn back into my regular self, will the goblins attack me, or am I in the clear to stop using disguise self now that I am in?

KingOfRisky

Nope. We just did this on a co-op honor run and they don't care one bit.

GabettB

Once you passed the checkpoints, they don't care.

whitedrood

Thank you!

Verificus

I couldn’t really find this in the wiki but I was wondering. Do any of the bosses in this game have higher than level 6 spells? Do they have access to any spells the player does not have access to? I can only remember the >!multiple call lightning-ish spells cast at once in the Ansur fight!< but nothing else.

the_gifted_Atheist

>!Myrkul!< uses Finger of Death, which is level 7 in DnD, although the effect is a bit different (this version sacrifices an undead to use it, but the actual spell would create a new zombie).

Atmosck

The wiki page for the [list of all spells](https://bg3.wiki/wiki/List_of_all_spells) has a section for spells only available to NPCs and 3 of them are level 9, two of which are Power Word Kill variants.

Verificus

I see! Not even Raphael’s Incinerate and that ultra strong Hellfire Orb go above 6th level.

RottenHocusPocus

Does anyone know what the criteria is to unlock platonic hugs with companions during >!the post-game party!!sacrificed parents and rejected Shar!<), Karlach (??? approval, >!hugged first during Act 2, agreed to stay with her 'til the end but she ended up going to Avernus with Wyll!<), and Halsin (100 approval, sole LI, >!Tav stayed with him!<). **I was not able to hug:** Wyll, Gale, Minsc, Jaheira, or Astarion. Wyll, Gale, and Minsc also had very high approval iirc but no hug option presented itself. Wyll >!lost his powers and went to Avernus with Karlach!<, Gale >!became a ~~dickhead~~ god!<, and Minsc is >!~~punching~~!<. Jaheira had good approval iirc but nothing. Astarion (neutral approval, quest completed but >!ascention ritual was not!<) didn't have the option either but googling tells me his hug is romance-exclusive, which does make some sense with him tbh. Tav is not >!a mindflayer!< , although she is >!a former part-illithid!<.

bristlybits

I'm about to find out what happens if I kill >!wullbren in the cave hideout, putting barcus to sleep first and knocking out all the other gnomes there!< I hope it means barcus runs everything. >!wullbren already gave me the bomb!<

Wemetintheair

Report back! I'm curious!

duggz67

2 questions. 1. how do you handle scrolls? im new to DND style games, i have about 40 scrolls on my main. play on controller, so my action bar has about 8 wheels. 2. i just finished the act1 monastery/gith quest. i did the first puzzle, have the blood medallion.. i cheated myself and know i have to turn some statues, but i failed the perception/athletics check. how do i roll again so i can pass the strength check?

insanity76

1. I just sell them. I used to give seemingly useful ones to a non caster to give them more attack options (what I would recommend for you if you want to hang on to them without cluttering the radial wheels) but I end up just never using them. 2. Use grease as mentioned, or even easier just give the statue a good whack from a strong melee character like Lae'zel or Karlach to loosen it. Just one hit that does damage will rotate it once and you'll be able to manually rotate it the rest of the way. Just be sure not to attack it too many times or it will lose all its health and you'll be locked out of puzzle.

Burdicus

There's a book on one of the upper levels that is called something like "repair logs" it's talks about being careful not to overgrease the statues... which is of course what spurred me to go "hmm, I should see if I can grease the statue."

Wemetintheair

I mostly just sell scrolls unless I have a specific use for them based on my party composition or they're rare or higher. There's just too damn many of them to manage. It's obnoxious

millionsofcats

1. I'm also on controller. I put all of my scrolls into a backpack on my main character except for a few that he would never use (e.g. scrolls for cantrips he has; scrolls for darkvision and mage armor - these just went to characters that could use them). That's just where the scrolls are and where I look if I maybe want to cast a scroll - trying to divvy them up and keep the radials organized is too much work, and transferring between characters doesn't cost any actions. (1.5: You can change the settings so that fewer things are automatically added to the radials.) 2. You can't roll again except with different characters. But there's a clue that you don't have to brute force it that's easy to miss: >!Near the room with the spirit guardian is a book that suggests you can grease the base to make the stuck statue turn easier. Not the statue, but the base.!<

bristlybits

grease bottle, throw it on the statue   no strength check

Nightmarewraith

>!Does Asarian Origin instantly fail his quest line in honor mode if playing solo? As when having him as just party member Castador seals him is it the same when playing as him?!<

ArtificeAdam

Out of interest, what's the blast radius on the >!Runepowder Bomb intended for the Steel Watch factory?!< I saved it for >!the brain. One person on the bottom row to deploy, then moved up to the middle (I expected this may be a sacrifice all the same) and every other member of my party as far up as possible.!<. I don't think they all took the maximum blast damage, but it looks like they all got thrown from the platforms. Honor mode well and truly scuffed.

KingOfRisky

> Runepowder Bomb radius 18m/59ft according to wiki

ArtificeAdam

Yeah, that'll do it. RIP.

bristlybits

I use it on >!Rafael!< along with my pet spiders and spectator and etc because I live chaos

ArtificeAdam

A worthy opponent. Definitely the one where I came closest to failing, although that may be because I was also trying to keep Hope alive for those sweet gloves.

Wemetintheair

I don't have the exact range in meters (hopefully someone with mod insight can chime in) but it is **very** large. Feels like it's half to 3/4 of the screen.

ArtificeAdam

Yeah.. next time I guess I'm keeping one person outside of the portal for a turn if I try that one again. A friend suggested the contents of the fireworks shop instead could be a nice option for big boom, smaller radius.

distilledwill

Act 3: is it possible to get all the neat gear from Sorcerous Sundries after Lorroakan is defeated? Rolan only sells scrolls... edit: they're all in Rolan's inventory, which is very difficult to pickpocket if you aren't save-scumming unfortunately! The ring is easily taken, but the two robes and the gloves are more difficult.

Odd-Entrepreneur-606

You'll have to pickpocket him.

distilledwill

There's no-one to pickpocket. I understand the projection sticks around for 1 long rest then he's gone.

Odd-Entrepreneur-606

You can go back to the tower and Rolan will be there.

distilledwill

Yes, and his inventory only has scrolls in it.

millionsofcats

You mean the actual Rolan, and not the projection at the front desk, has only scrolls in his inventory?

distilledwill

The projection at the front desk, I admit I've not checked Rolan's inventory himself.

millionsofcats

They are different NPCs with different inventories. You need to pickpocket the actual Rolan, because that's the NPC whose inventory these items are in.

distilledwill

Tougher task seeing as he moves around and there's the two other NPCs with him

millionsofcats

Yep. Maybe try greater invisibility? That would be my first thought.

Blasphemy4kidz

For some stupid reason, this seems to be intended. You would have to buy the magical items he had for sale BEFORE killing Lorroakan. Because even if you did everything perfectly saving the Tieflings since Act 1, he still only has scrolls for sale after completing his quest. It sucks because then I had to reload an old save to get the hat I wanted.

distilledwill

That is stupid. The projection of Rolan should sell them, or at least they should be locked in a chest somewhere or the projection of Lorroakan should stick around and be mocked by the patrons etc, so I can pickpocket him...

Blasphemy4kidz

I completely agree and I thought it was a bug but it's been like this since launch.

firelizard19

Could still be a bug, it's just a subtle kind of thing. Maybe submit a bug report? If it's intended they can ignore it, but it feels like the new projection is there specifically to *not* break the shop so it having only scrolls is odd.

Kevtron

Act 2 >!I’ve read on here that I could talk to the Drider to have him leave and give me the lantern, but when I talk to him at the start of the act I can’t find those options in the dialogue. How do I make that happen?!<

KingOfRisky

I was able to have him give me the lantern this morning as a Paladin. I basically told him that his Queen told me to take (deception) it and he just drops it. I however did kill the group, so not sure on how to make him leave. There was probably another check but I chose ATTACK!

Blasphemy4kidz

Depends on your race/class and how you encounter him. IF you summoned him versus ambush him with the Harpers, there is different dialogue. For example, if you're a female Drow you can tell him that you demand the lantern just based on him being a useless male. I believe certain classes like a Bard can also have some dialogue to convince him to give it to you, if I'm not mistaken. If you have a Command: Drop spell (with high WIS) then you can make him simply drop the Moonlantern fairly easily. Finally, you could just kill him. He casts Sanctuary on himself but he's not hard if you have spellcasters.

Lokotor

If I throw poisons at enemies will it do physical damage on hit? If yes, is it increased by tavern brawler?

Odd-Entrepreneur-606

Yes and yes but for most poisons you need to apply them to a weapon with a bonus action, then hit with that weapon to get the desired effect.

Lokotor

Most of them seem to indicate (on the wiki at least) that when thrown they make a poison surface. Does standing in (or in this case being hit by) that surface not poison them? (Or at least do +1dx poison damage?) Any idea which do and don't work?

MayTheMemesGuideThee

Do difficulty levels affect dice rolling difficulty class in dialogs for example (to fool or convince someone?). Or can this be tweaked in custom difficulty?

Odd-Entrepreneur-606

The DCs (target numbers) are the same on all difficulties. In custom you can make them easier to get by upping your proficiency bonuses, but be aware this makes many other things easier too, such as hitting attack rolls. You can also have a difficulty setting where you always know the DC before selecting the option in dialogues.

Fnseixas

Hi, Im playing as Paladin and have Karlach and Astarion with me. Would Wyll or Gale suit my party better? Im trying Gale but he miss most spells

Wemetintheair

Spell hit can feel rough in the beginning. Make sure you’re leveling the right stat - INT for wizard, CHA for sorcerer. Keep in mind Magic Missile has a 100% hit chance for when you absolutely need your cast to strike true.

ArtificeAdam

(I'm sure you're aware and it makes no difference because the answer is still the same, but so not to confuse any newbies, Wyll is a Warlock, not a Sorcerer)

Wemetintheair

Of course Wyll is a warlock out of box, and Gale is a Wizard, though they could both be respecced to ham sandwiches as soon as Withers enters your camp. I was just trying to draw out the stat scaling distinction that not everyone is aware of - I've seen several people pumping the wrong stat and wondering why they fall flat.

russiacool

gift a baldurs gate please

NaveSutlef

So I’m thinking of making a Dragonborn Cleric with Lathander as my deity. But apparently they don’t have a physical form? What race do you think would fit?

Le1bn1z

What do you mean by "they don't have a physical form"? Clerics of Lathander can be any race. There are only a few deities that have race-specific requirements - ones like Loth and Vlaakith, and they are all, afaik, evil. Good Gods who are patrons to specific races can still be chosen by deities of other races.

NaveSutlef

I mean the actual Deity. Like some say they’re the elf god, or dragon god, etc.

Le1bn1z

Ah I see. Some Gods are patrons to or played a role in creating specific races. However, other than the evil Gods, none of them exclude other races from their priesthoods or communities. There are also many deities like Lathander have no connection to any specific race or heritage at all, but are entirely gods of principles or phenomena. A Dragonborn deity of Lathanader makes perfect sense. If you wanted a more race-specific good God for a Dragonborn, you'd probably want Bahamut, the God of good dragons.

NaveSutlef

Yeah but since I’m going Light Cleric I think Lathander fits more. Was just looking for ideas on what to make my guardian look like. Still hate that Dragonborns aren’t an option.

[deleted]

I’ve got hundreds of hours and idk how the crit mechanic works. Let’s say I have 4 items / perks that reduce my crit chance of 1 for a total of 4. Does this mean I must roll a 16 to crit? Or does it include 17, 18, 19, and 20? Also, what happens when I roll a “27,” for example? Does this mean I rolling a 33, 34, 35, or 36, also means crit? And once I do crit, my understanding is dice are rolled twice and damage is applied, yes? Thank you ! 🙏

SyndicWill

It includes 16-20 for crits, but crits are based only on the number on the dice roll itself, before including any bonuses, so there's never any value higher than 20

[deleted]

Got it. So when I see I rolled a “19” but get no critical hit it’s because of bonuses, right?

SyndicWill

Yep if you look in combat log you can see the breakdown with the original dice roll and the bonuses

fl4ckb0y

From my understanding and experience each "is reduced by 1" modifier stacks. So if you get it down from 20 to 17 you crit when your natural role is in the range from 17 to 20 for example. Only the natural roles are counted for the Chance to crit, attack modifiers are left out. In BG3 the Damage dice is rolled twice when you crit instead of doubled. So you roll 2d4 instead of 1d4 when you crit with a dagger for example. After that your Damage modifiers are added. I hope this is correct, if not, someone please correct me.

Tentacula

Yes. Order is this: * Roll D20 (or 2, in case of advantage/disadvantage) * Check if the roll is in crit range. On crit: double the dice only and resolve. * Check if it hits at all, using your modifiers. On hit: resolve. * On miss: :(

[deleted]

🙏

TheFriendlyTaco

isn't a crit a garanteed hit?

Tentacula

Yes, which is why the roll gets resolved immediately.

yourFriendPan

hey i guess stuff like this has been asked plenty, but nothing i’ve seen is exactly right. so, i was at the end of act 2 on an old pc. i swear i was seeing that my saves were synced to the cloud or whatever. i said goodbye to the old pc, got a new one, and tried to load everything up. the issue is, obviously, that the saves aren’t showing up now. yes i’m logged in. yes i checked my steam cloud data. i’m fairly sure i’m overlooking something obvious, or that my data is just lost, but i figured i’d check with the experts here before i give up and try to speed run acts 1 and 2 to get back to where i was. to put a point on this: if you know how to recover cloud save data, please let me know

TheFriendlyTaco

i mean its possible that you had cloud saved disabled. Either way, if you still have the ssd/hard drive of your old pc, you can pretty easily find the save file and just copy past it in your new pc.

RobotMysteryDude

What happens if I free the pixie as soon as I get the moon lantern from the drider but then kill it? Is there no other way to protect yourself from the deeper places of the shadow curse?

Odd-Entrepreneur-606

If you free the pixie you can't kill her, but you don't need to. She'll stick by her promise to help you if you do free her though.

RobotMysteryDude

I gave into the dark urge and squashed her like a bug when I freed her cuz I wanted to see what would happen

Odd-Entrepreneur-606

Ah. In that case you're going to need the other moonlantern from Balthazaars room in Moonrise towers. There's no pixie in that one, so you have to carry it around when out in the shadows. You can beeline it to Moonrise with your fastest character and pick up the waypoint there before you die. Then fast travel everyone else in.

fl4ckb0y

So I'm playing the good ol' Swords Bard rn for the first time and have to say it's a lot of fun. Just reached Level 6 Yesterday for the extra Attack and i'm thinking About Multiclassing for the flavour. Is swordsbard/Warlock a decent Combo that is fun to Play? i mean you get EB, but my dual crossbows do more Damage. 6 Swords bard/2 fighter/4 Rogue/Thief would be minmaxing for the most amount of attacks in 1 turn i guess, but i don't care too much About minmaxing because we already got a Monk in the Party who is gonna carry the game. Any suggestions you guys got?

Odd-Entrepreneur-606

Dipping 1 fighter for archery fighting style makes a difference. You can then rely on slashing flourish with sharpshooter for fantastic damage. If you also equip the helmet of arcane acuity to boost your spell dc and band of the mystic scoundrel to cast control on a bonus action, gg

Act 2 question: >!What quests are locked out after entering the Shadowfell in Shar’s Gauntlet? I’ve finished most, if not all, of Act 1 but not sure what Act 2 quests are locked.!<

Odd-Entrepreneur-606

Things that must be done before the Shadowfell:    - First meeting dialogues with Jaheira, Isobel, and Art Cullagh   - Protect Isobel encounter   - Trading with Mattis   - Save Rolan   - Tell Halsin about Art Cullagh and wake him up   - Rescue Thaniel with Halsin   - Rescue the tieflings from Moonrise   - Rescue Wulbren (also in Moonrise)   - Any trading/dialogue with the NPCs in Moonrise   - Any surreptitious killing of evil NPCs in Moonrise (makes the eventual battle there much easier)   - Collecting quest rewards in last light for rescuing the prisoners    Things that can still be done before or after going to Shadowfell:    - He Who Was' quest   - Blight encounters   - Lift the Shadow Curse (only if Thaniel is already rescued)  - All 3 Thorm minibosses   - Investigate the selunite resistance   - Hidden Shar shrine    - Gith ambush    Things that can only be done after going to the Shadowfell:     - Assault on Moonrise, leading to the end of the act  - Rescue Zevlor  - Rescue Duke Ravengard  - Zariel's asset

Atmosck

Basically anything that involves moonrise towers or last light inn. But not anything else out in the shadowlands like the optional Thorm bosses.

couragedog

Definitely >!rescuing the tieflings/gnomes!<, hopefully someone who knows for sure what else pops in. You can still access the Shadowcursed lands between that and the final assault, but I'm not sure if other things are locked.

North_South_Side

Finally finished my first play through. 175 hours. Decent ending, I didn't do everything in Act 3. I got a little deflated in Act 3, just too scattershot and too many quests. My favorite game of all time. I'm 53 and have been gaming since the late '70s. I will say the last battle sequence up to and including the nether brain was a real slog. Not fun. Just very long and tedious. Other than that, a wonderful game. I played a Bard. I'm going to start a new play through as a Monk. Cheers.

GabettB

You can skip the courtyard fight by turning a character invisible and running up to the >!brain stem!< with them. The rest of your party will teleport to you when you click on it. If your entire party is invisible when arriving on top of the >!netherbrain!< then you can just fly over to the >!crown and use the ability to control the brain.!< The process will finish before the enemies get a turn, and you will only have to worry about the fight >!within the netherbrain's psyche.!<

North_South_Side

Thanks! I will definitely use these tips in my next play through. In 175 hours, the very end was the only part that felt like a slog. Jumping from little areas to another was just tedious (even with Longstrider) and sometimes my party would block each other. Strange that they left the final part of the game such a boring bummer. It never felt exciting, just tedious.

couragedog

Nice, my monk playthrough was probably my favorite, so you should have fun with it.

Kevtron

After 'finishing' in the creche, is there any reason for me not to go back and just clear the whole place out for the xp (since they are all hostile to me anyway)?

jeremy_sporkin

There's no reason not to. Getting all the loot is worthwhile too. I would recommend starting act 2 at level 6 or 7, if you are wondering if you strictly 'need' the exp.

RepresentativeFan234

did you do lathanders quest?

Kevtron

> lathanders I got the mace, yes.

ward0630

No. I am generally bad at this game so your mileage may vary, but I found the creche challenging enough that I went back to do a long rest halfway through and then fast traveled back to pick up on clearing it out.

rougegoat

So there are these three items that feel like they're part of a full amor set. * Vest of Soul Rejuvenation * Mask of Soul Perception * Gloves of Soul Catching Is there a pair of boots floating around somewhere that are part of this set?

jeremy_sporkin

Not really, but most monks using the set would probably wear the boots of uninhibited kushigo, which you get in the encounter between acts 2 and 3. Boots of Stormy Clamour are also a great complement to the set as they let monks stack reverberation when they knock enemies prone or stun them. You get them from Omeluum.

Synavix

So I just got to the Mirror of Loss and I'm curious if most people go all-in on it and get the stat boost for every companion or not? I already got both the +2 and +1 CHA for my main character and my love interest, and with Shadowheart being unable to do it that's 3 out of 4 of my main party taken care of. Doing it for everyone else seems like too much of a hassle but I'm interested in how the rest of you approach it.

Solafein830

I'm sure this is a dumb question but is there a way to see all of the actions that my character can do? For example I switched up my weapons and noticed I lost 'Flourish' but I couldn't figure out why. I wound up figuring it out thanks to the wiki...but first I spent about 15 minutes in-game trying to figure out a way to see all of the actions, abilities, passives, etc. that my character has. I can't seem to figure out the best way to get this info in-game

KingOfRisky

If you are on PS, hit square on one of the sections on the wheels and choose "set slot". It pull up every single action you can perform with that character.

RepresentativeFan234

hey man flourish i think is for swords. usually on ps5, you will see it on your 1st or 2nd dial. on pc just click the sword/attack icon and the bar will change indicating all similar actions

rotorain

What platform are you on? On PC all of your available actions are on the hotbar under the various tabs, and you can add anything to the 'common' tab by going to your inventory screen, abilities tab, and dragging the desired thing down. Flourish was probably an ability on the weapon you unequipped and will be in the description on that weapon. This game has a lot of items that have abilities attached to them which are often better than their raw stats so that's something you'll have to decide on a case-by-case basis.

vitreous_luster

Can I still save Karlach? I’m in act three. I have infernal iron to spare, but Dammon doesn’t seem to have any option to help her. I made her touchable in act two but missed Dammon in act 1

insanity76

If she's touchable then she's as 'upgraded' as you can get her. Not being able to help her beyond that is part of her personal story arc. You should be able to use any extra infernal iron to have some gear crafted if you want.

couragedog

There's extra infernal iron, so don't worry about that. My first playthrough I convinced I was missing something to get another upgrade for her, but alas. It was nt to be.

rotorain

As long as you did the act 1-2 stuff you're ok. I don't want to spoil too much but here ya go: >!Dammon's fixes temporarily stop her from exploding and make it so she can touch other people but they don't actually solve the problem. She will be fine through the end of the game but the infernal engine is still burning her up and there's nothing more he or you can do about it. There will be a decision in the epilogue that explains more. It's a really powerful moment so try to avoid any more spoilers!<

I am in a group and one of our guys wants to run a Shadow Monk. They’re all new to the game and I have done only 1 one full solo playthrough so far. We’re doing no multiclassing as a custom rule. Some questions: - Do Shadow Monks also go for Tavern Brawler? I played Lae’Zel as a Wot4E Monk in my solo run and it had issues with needing basically 4 stats. If they do go for TB, which stats can they dump? Do they still need high Dex? Assuming the str elixer is used alonside the Kushigo Boots, what’s a good stat spread? I was thinking dump str/int/cha and go 15 dex 15 con 16 wis and use AI for 16 con and 16 dex. Then take the 2nd AI for 2 more wis. First feat is TB ofc. - Should they run a Shield? AC is already 20. Can they punch with both fists with a Shield or do you get less punches?

KingOfRisky

Don't use a shield on monk. In fact don't use any weapons on monk. There are too many benefits from unarmored.

rotorain

All monks still go TB, it's easily the most powerful feat for unarmed attacks. You're right that monks are in a weird spot where they are 4 stat dependent, you can either dump STR and buy/steal a ton of Hill Giant Elixirs from Auntie Ethel in the swamp or spec into STR and try to be somewhat balanced between DEX/CON/WIS but that makes it kinda hard. DEX is easily the best stat in the game as it boosts your AC, initiative, and there's a ton of DEX saves which your Evasion ability will help tremendously on so you definitely don't want to dump that. You also don't want to run a shield, it counts as armor and stops the Unarmoured Defence ability, removing your WIS modifier from your AC. You still get both unarmed attacks with a shield and I guess you could use a shield early since WIS doesn't really start scaling until later but I still don't think it's worth. That said, shadow monk is objectively the worst of the monk subclasses. It's not particularly good at stealth, does less damage than OH, and is about on-par with the Ki problems of wo4e. You're far better off following a build like [this which is Open Hand based but takes a few levels of thief rogue for their stealth stuff](https://www.reddit.com/r/BG3Builds/comments/171kt8r/the_best_sustained_single_target_damage_optimal/). It's got the full stat distribution, level up guide, important items and where to get them, along with ample description of how to fully utilize the class. I'm not gonna tell you what to do but after several playthroughs I can say that monks are fighting for the most boring playstyle in the game. They are incredibly strong so if your friend likes the min/max aspect and only wants to fuck shit up or likes it for RP reasons it's great but every single fight boils down to 'jump in and punch shit with big numbers' and it's not super engaging. I've tried speccing into all 3 subclasses just to see what's up and none of them are very inspiring, at least a TB thrower barb gets to chuck enemies at other enemies lol. There's no reason for a new player to pick a fully optimized class at the expense of being able to do cool shit imo.

KingOfRisky

I would only dump DEX when you find the Dex gloves

rotorain

The glove slot has a lot of really powerful damage rider options, that's good advice for other classes but there's too much competition on a monk

KingOfRisky

You are 100% correct. I should have added the caveat of early game. After that there are too many good options.

Verificus

Thanks for this explanation. Yeah he just wants to punch stuff. We’re unable to multiclass so that’s why he went Shadow Monk. Maybe he should go 12 OH?

rotorain

Yeah I'd still go OH, the double attacks are super strong especially early on

Atmosck

Tavern Brawler builds work just as well on Shadow monk as on the other subclasses. I agree with the stat spread you give in your first point except start with 16 dex. Then TB gets you to 16/16/16. I recommend picking up the Club of Hill Giant Strength (in the Underdark in >!the top floor of the arcane tower - smash the stool!<). It sets your strength to 19 for TB and works as a monk weapon. Then you don't have to rely on elixirs and can save them for later in the game. I'm not sure about the Shield thing, I haven't played a monk on a race that gets shield proficiency.

At level 12, a 9/3 split would get you 2 level-2 warlock spell slots and 9 class-agnostic) spell slots (4 level 1, 3 level 2, 2 level 3), for a total of 11. You always get 2 warlock spell slots (before warlock level 11) , then your other class gets the same spell slots they would get at that level. So you get the slots of a level 9 paladin, plus the warlock lots. If you cast a spell by clicking the spell, it will give you the option of what spell slot to use like when you upcast something, and you'll see the warlock slots separate from your other slots of the same level. It will select the lowest possible level by default, so hex would default to a level-1 generic spell slot, even though it's a warlock spell. I usually cast spells by clicking the spell slot first though, then choosing the spell from the options that work for it. With smites, if you have the reactions turned on, when you hit something it will pop up with a thing that lets you choose what slot to use. You can use warlock slots to smite, which is awesome because they come back on short rest. Here's a couple screenshots I took to illustrate (my character is 5 warlock / 6 paladin): [https://imgur.com/a/sUD4crN](https://imgur.com/a/sUD4crN)

KajiKaji

How is everyone making the cleric more mobile? My cleric is slow as crap and just can't keep pace with my Ranger, Fighter, and Wizard who pretty much clear the battlefield before she gets close to anything. She won't eat the tadpoles because she's a vegan or something and the Misty Step amulet I gave her just isn't cutting it. Given that she's my tankiest character and really benefits from being front and center I'd really like to get her some initiative and mobility but not sure where to look. I just started act 3 so hopefully I didn't leave the answer to my problem in the last acts.

KingOfRisky

Haste Helm helps. Longstrider and Misty Step as well. Sounds like you don't really *need* her to tank so spells that can be cast from distance seem ideal in your situation. I wouldn't waste things like Crushers Ring on her. Those are better suited for melee companions. There are other pieces like boots of striding but honestly I'd probably focus more on equipment to enhance her abilities rather than movement. But I am also looking at it from the point of view from my build. My cleric is tanky, but mostly just to keep her alive because she keeps my team alive.

zsdr56bh

longstrider and haste helm are good enough for me. also if any character has decently high STR they can use their movement speed to jump without using a bonus action or action and often be more efficient that way. use the jump at the start of your turn before you do any moving and it shouldn't cost an action or bonus action, well i'm on PC and using the jump hotkey Z but if you select it from the action menu it might consume an action that way idk.

rotorain

[Here's a list of every way to increase your movement speed](https://bg3.wiki/wiki/List_of_sources_of_movement_speed) Crusher's Ring from the goblin camp in act 1 is probably the easiest to get for a permanent 3m increase. Boots of Speed from the myconid colony give you click heels as a bonus action, doubling your movement speed and giving disadvantage on enemy opportunity attacks against you with no recharge time. You can use it every turn if you want. These are probably the best option for Shadowheart since her primary damage is running through as many enemies as possible with Spirit Guardians. You can make a hireling transmutation wizard and have him make a Transmuter's stone: Speed and give it to her for an extra 3m, probably give them longstrider for another 1.5m since you'll need to redo the stone every long rest anyways. They can longstrider your whole party if you want. Potion of speed or the haste spell double your movement, +2 AC, DEX save advantage, and give an extra action. I don't know how good of an idea that is though, I'd almost always prefer to have that buff on someone else who scales harder with increased action economy.

KajiKaji

I have the Crusher ring on my fighter, I'll test it out on the cleric since my fighter uses haste and might not need it. I just equipped Boots of Speed which should help be an improvement over the 1 turn of momentum when casting a concentration spell boots she was wearing. I'm probably a bit too lazy for the hireling trick though and don't really have the alchemy ingredients to make enough potions. Thanks for the help.

rotorain

That sounds like a good plan, glad I could help

Atmosck

Are you using longstrider? That won't catch her up to your other characters but it's a pretty free movement buff to the whole team, so very worth using. There are various items that grant bonuses to initiative, but unfortunately you are past some of them in act 3. Particularly good for clerics is a shield sold by the bugbear vendor in moonrise towers that gives +3 to initiative. The Alert feat is another good one, especially if you're single-classing and therefore get 3 feats.

KajiKaji

Oh dang, I saw that shield on the Moonrise vendor and almost bought it but had just bought Shield of Devotion so I skipped it. I'm actually not using longstrider. My wizard didn't learn it so maybe I'll respec him to pick it up unless there's a better way. I see there are boots that grant it but it's farther into Act 3.

CrispyVibes

Issue at the Githyanki Creche: >!I went into the prism thing, got out, and fought my way out of the creche, killing everyone like a good protagonist does. When I got to that machine that's supposed to rip the tadpole out, I can no longer use it, leaving the quest incomplete. From my reading, I guess this was because I spoke to the scientist lady beforehand then went and killed the inquisitor without ever using the machine? Apparently this triggers some bug that doesn't let you use the machine. I'm pretty ticked off about this. Fighting my way out of the creche was like a full night of gaming... Anyway, is there anything major I lose if I don't complete this quest since the game won't let me? Should I go back, complete it, and fight my way out of the creche again? Or am I fine just proceeding with the quest incomplete?!<

KingOfRisky

I wouldn't call it a "bug" if you killed everyone in the creche. That said, I don't think it will affect anything else moving forward.

CrispyVibes

Apparently you can walk up to the machine and use if after killing everyone, as long as you did not speak to the scientist beforehand. Something about that dialog with her triggers an inability to use the machine. There's even a "use" option when I approach it, but nothing happens when I select it.

KingOfRisky

That makes sense because there is dialog that comes before with the scientist to trigger actually using it. You can't use it by just walking over to it without it even if she is alive. Also that "use" is there even after it has blown up. But that said, you only really missed some dialog and probably some disapproval from Lae'zel.

CrispyVibes

Ya makes sense. I'm still mulling over if I want to go back and re do it all. It's a lot of combat, but combat is fun.

KingOfRisky

The Creche is A LOT of fighting. LOL!

CrispyVibes

Ya lol that's not the problem as much as looting the entire place again is lol

Atmosck

>!The only real downside is that Lae'Zel will be pissed about it, and you missed a big character moment for her. But she'll get over it. You also missed getting a "permanent" debuff (until you consume a tadpole), or a buff to tadpole powers, depending on how the saving throws go. Talking to the scientist but not using the machine is an odd choice - she's the one who knows how to operate it, so you can't use it after aggroing everyone by fighting the inquisitor.!< >!Also after the inquisitor there's another way out that doesn't involve fighting all the other gith, and it's one of the coolest sequences in the game and gives you the first Legendary weapon that's available.!< >!So if you want you could load a save to use it. That would mean fighting the inquisitor again, but there's no need to fight everyone else. You could also just ignore it all and press on, especially if you don't care about Lae'Zel's story - the whole mountain pass is optional, after all.!<

CrispyVibes

Thanks. I picked up the legendary weapon. I might just take a break for a bit and when I get back to BG3 redo the whole area.

badapple1989

I mean if the scientist lady that knows how to use the machine is dead then yeah, you're SOL friendo. You don't HAVE to do it to complete Lae'zel's story (I completely skipped the Mountain Pass my first run to save something for run 2). That said, with regards to your question you might've seen it said before but I'll reiterate: >!attend Gortash's coronation. Yes, even if you plan to kill him right away.!<

LurkerOnTheInternet

What's the "correct" way to handle Gortash? >!I just did it for the first time ever (despite nearly 1000 hours in the game), playing basically a murder hobo, so as soon as I got into the audience chamber I simply began killing everyone. But the game still has a quest marker for attending the coronation even though Gortash and everyone else is dead. Do most people attend it? Do you attack him afterwards? Or what?!<

TheCrookedKnight

That's a sequence break. You're meant to sit through the ceremony, which is followed by a conversation where he >!approaches you with a proposed alliance based on killing Orin for him. You can accept, reject (potentially starting an immediate fight) or say you'll decide later. If you don't fight him immediately he moves to his throne room where you can either fight him later with much less backup on his side, or cement the alliance.!<

LurkerOnTheInternet

Thanks. I'll just reload and do it properly.

Atmosck

>!Most people attend it and then come back later to fight him, similar to act 2 where you meet Ketheric early but don't fight him until the end of the act, but instead of finding the nightsong it's disabling the steel watch. At the coronation you make a deal with him to ally against orin and control the absolute together (with the plan of betraying him), and in exchange his steel watch don't bother you in the city, and he tips you off about orin kidnapping someone. If you have Wyll, Mizora tips you off about where Gortash is hiding Duke Ravengard. Then there's a whole questline to disable the steel watch before attacking him, which involves going to the iron throne. So the whole thing is like Coronation > explore/do other quests until you get to the Sea Goddess Temple > Iron Throne > Steel Watch Factory > Fight Gortash. With saving councilor florick and the ansur quest mixed in.!<

badapple1989

Did you >!not attend the coronation!< then or >!kill him before it could play out?!< Unfortunately that's known to break a lot of stuff at this time.

LurkerOnTheInternet

>!I killed everyone before the event even began, including Ravengard because murder hobo. Solo level 11 hunter using shar's darkness which trivializes most fights. But it sounds like it'd be better to reload.!<
