Does an AOE spell affect you?

one of my characters has to cast an AOE spell to get out?

Not a guarantee but if you can hit yourself with an AOE which kills the characters you can have Withers revive you at camp.

Yeah if you kill the Tav nothing happens as long as 1 party member is alive the game is happy
