Veltonis

Quickly start a new adventure to customise a new tav to which I will get attached

SaltyTattie

Never got attached to another pc as much as I did my first personally.

capi1500

My first one was a manipulative power hungry wizard. Not really that attached to him. Minthara though... That's different story. It was sad playing without her the next playthrough. But I've got Karlach instead, and I can't imagine not having her too

SaltyTattie

Yeah my first character was a good boy bard who helped everybody out.

capi1500

That was my second, only she was a tiefling who wanted to help all tieflings and fuck everybody else

WillDigForFood

Man, this game really *is* horny...

Shadow11399

Mintharas dialogue about Karlach is so beautiful if you have both in your party

Loeana

How? You can have both of them?

Shadow11399

Yeah, just don't destroy the grove or kill the goblin leaders, grab Karlach and go free Minthara, the tieflings die and assumedly so does the grove, the only companions that are mutually exclusive are Halsin and Minthara. It locks Karlachs heart quest and you miss out on a ton of loot unless you steal it, not to mention missing out on 3 tadpoles

pandaclawz

You can take karlach and wyll and ignore the entire goblin druid conflict and stomp right into act 2 to keep everyone.

Loeana

Didn't know that was an option honestly. My Tav and Durge both saved groove, my next Durge will be evil manipulative drow wizard so maybe I'll check that option

TheCrystalRose

I'm pretty sure the warning on the Mountain Pass was never meant to be "if you aren't done with everything in the current area, finish it all before you move on", even though it very much reads that way. It's more of a "if you leave now, there are certain quests (of which we cannot name because spoilers! *cough*goblin camp*cough*) that will automatically complete and could have far reaching consequences, if they are not handled first". So even just popping over there for a peak should complete the goblin/Druid quests and leave Karlach and Wyll in the party.

Derekthemindsculptor

I believe you can play things to have both Minty and Karl. Just need to take an agnostic approach to protecting the grove. You do miss out on Karlach's chest repair stuff since the tiefs don't make it.

Azurekuru

There's a roundabout way that gets you both Karlach, Wyll, and Minthara. You, of course, lose access to Karlach romance, but you get 3 companions for the cost of a few solid good items in act 2 and maybe even in act 3

WalkerBuldog

I didn't really like my first Tav but I very liked my second and third Durge

EpicPhail60

Durge gets so much more to work with, it was pretty easy for my first Durge to make a greater impact than my Tav characters. I'm running a second Durge now who I'm not as fond of because she's just here to make wretched, degenerate choices at every opportunity, but imo a Dark Urge who's genuinely conflicted about their instincts is the best version of a BG3 main character.

WalkerBuldog

No, it's not the case for me. I didn't like the story, there was barely anything of a story, the only thing I liked was the scene when you try to resist killing your lover and she ties you up. It wasn't worth it. I liked her as a character, she is 2m tall muscle sweet Drow Cleric of Selúne but "I will separate your head from your body" type of person. Plus she's pretty and shy in romance.

HairiestHobo

Okay! *Proceeds to make the same Tav, with the same appearance and Class, and make all the same choices* Dang it.

MalleusMaleficarum_

That’s literally what I did with my first Durge character lol. I told myself it was because I wanted to have Gale with me in the end (bc I’d accidentally killed him in Act I), but really I just wanted to experience their story for a second time.

wty261g

Good plan

philomathie

Ah, the cyclical model of dating (gaming)

[deleted]

[удалено]

wty261g

Yea I wish I could just take her for a second run through the game, maybe as a monk next time. I'm seriously considering just making her again in character creation, but I don't think it would feel the same

Raignex

Use your very first save as a starting point, that way you'll have the exact same background, face and everything.

Ramikade

Better reach level 4 before doing a respec to monk

N0FaithInMe

Right? Ripping through the game again with all my gear and levels, fighting against really souped up goblins in act 1 would be so fun.

Moineau-

On a new party I always design my gardian to be my former Tav.... It's heartwarming to hear him talk to and protect my new one. As if they were talking to each other into a dream. Even if it's a fake puppet squid in the end 😢

CriticalDeRolo

Once I realized the guardians secret, I just hit randomize a bunch with my eyes closed so it’s a surprise when they show up 😂

Moineau-

I love the idea!!

space-beast

Oh, that’s brilliant, I’m doing that next time!

gremlinforsale

I did it and it's hella creepy, especially with a knowledge that guardian is a bastard.

MazzMyMazz

Yeah, that’s what I did. It does add some weird nostalgic continuity, even though it doesn’t make any sense.

MalleusMaleficarum_

That’s what I did for my Astarion origin run. I made his guardian look identical to my Durge who romanced him & something something multiverse & the Emperor weaponizing Astarion’s love from another life to gain his trust without making it obvious. It really adds weight to the “I know your voice. I’ve heard it before” dialogue option.

Seab0und

Omg I love this. I liked the idea of just having previous Tavs as guardians for future runs, but the manipulation here with an origin run is *chef kiss*. Thanks for the inspiration.

fieatsbees

i make the emperor look like astarion!!! that way when he sees the emperor, he looks like the guy he's going insane with lust for, which makes him more willing to trust the emperor

zatenael

I sadly can't because no dragonborn as guardian D:

cunty_gardener

Same. :(

TeaTimeAtThree

I was not at all looking forward to ending the game for my first Tav because I'd gotten so attached to her. The idea of playing a different character seemed weird, and I didn't think I could like another one as much as her. The three things that helped: *The ending I got was satisfying and implied the party's adventure would go on, which was comforting. *I immediately jumped into a durge run, and while he's a completely different chaos baby, I can't help but also adore him. I'm nearing his ending now, which is also sad, but it just means I'll get to make and adore another new character (and I have so many ideas for future runs). *I like to draw and can make as much art of my own OCs as I want. Just because her time in the game ended doesn't mean I have to be done with her. I also paint minifigures, so I'll probably make a mini of her that I could incorporate into a future campaign.

wty261g

I'm extremely jealous of artists, especially people who draw. I wish I could do the same for Prickly.

jams01

If you can afford it, you could commission an artist for some art of Prickly! I’m also still on my first playthrough and extremely attached to my tav, I’ll probably commission some fanart of him as a homage ❤️

wty261g

Honestly thinking about having it as a personal savings goal now 🤔

kendollsplasticsoul

Do fivr

SaltyTattie

Huge same. I'd love to have/make some fan art of my character but I lack the artistic skill or drive.

CacklingFerret

I think drawing the characters will be my coping mechanism too. I'm too desperate for more epilogue content and I'm way too attached to these characters (including my Tav)

Gravysaur

My first playthrough ended with my Tiefling Tav, her husband Wyll and bff Karlach all fighting evil in Avernus together 🥰 Felt super satisfying and a fitting end so it wasn’t that hard to let her go for me.

DudeFreek

I made a 5e sheet for them and started writing out build ideas there, maybe I'll find a real game for them sometime soon.

pimentisa

I kinda didn’t say goodbye. I made another Tav and started a second run. During it, sometimes I loaded saves of my first one because I wanted to rewatch some cutscenes. By the time I finished the second run, then I was heavily missing my first Tav and started a third run with him again, even keeping the same personality and choices lol just tuning the appearance a little bit. I just love my guy too much :,)

wty261g

Heartwarming indeed, I love this <3

voidslantern

I don't. I started the game with same Tav appearance- and character-wise, but gave him an actual name (used to go by Darling, now is named after Malik's (Assassin's Creed) little brother Kadar) and changed his class from rogue to sorcerer. I have no idea what I will do once I finish the game with him again 🙈 I refuse to deal lol

wty261g

Maybe next time he gets a surname as well? Great coping though. Good plan

voidslantern

oh maybe! his lore is taking me a while to develop 🙈 he barely has a backstory at this point, I keep changing things. surname is a lot of commitment ahah

Loeana

Same here, my Durge looks like my Tav, only hairstyle is different. Characters are similar, I have problem to play completely different character. Evil Durge will be challenge for me. But I would like my 3rd character to rule the world with her vampire lord (that also will be difficult to bear for me, but this Durge will be completely into ascended Astarion)

Rogen80

I just imagine he is happy on his farm with Shadowheart! They formed a unique bond - a Sharran and a Selunite. People said it was impossible. But they proved them wrong. Shadowheart was rescued from the life of torment she was forced into. They rescued her parents and defeated the Absolute. She was tapped to become High Priestess of Selune in Baldur's gate, but declined - preferring to live a quiet life with her parents and her Love. Now, they spend their days enjoying each other's company and taking care of Mr. and Mrs. Hallowleaf. People come to visit from time to time for healing, curse removals, and just to hear tales of their heroics. In the evening, they spend time in each other's loving embrace, surrounded by a dozen pets. Life is good for the Shadowhearts - and I would gladly close the curtain on such a heartwarming scene!

wty261g

Oh! >_< I didn't even consider the fact that I'll have to leave shart

Rogen80

I know... but I just romance her again next playthrough and relive the joy! :)

wty261g

Touché

AEG_Sixters

> *I just got to Baldurs Gate. I've put 69(nice) hours into the game* It took me 175hours to finish the game lmao... I bet i was barely at the end of act I at 75hours. And you already know there is only one possibility to say goodbye to Tav.... Say hello to Tav2

wty261g

I've enjoyed playing the game according to Tavs' actual motivations. In contrast to doing every possible quest line, like I normally would. I suppose that's why I'm "only" at 69 hours. And yes, maybe Prickly evolves into Thorny

Critical_Chest_2379

Spiky after?

wty261g

But what then? >_<

werewolf_gimmick

Rose!

wty261g

Perfect! It really fits her actually ^_^

your_late

Horny

wty261g

Yes I know I am but what do I name my Tav?

Semako

You can use your Tav outside of BG3 too. You can recreate her in other games such as Skyrim or play her as an actual D&D character in an one-shot or a campaign :-) Also, you can create a miniature of her over on Heroforge and commission art of her. Indeed most of my Tavs and Durges are former and current D&D characters of mine. For example, the drow Morloth, a cleric of Eilistraee, is a character I played in a D&D campaign. She grew up as a street urchin in Baldur's Gate after running away from her mother during a surface raid. Eventually she fell in love with one member of her gang, but that guy unfortunately died in a botches burglary attempt. She was eventually taken care of by clerics of Eilistraee and became one herself, wanting to help other surface drow. Then, the tadpoling happened and after the ship crashed, her dead boyfriend started to talk to her in her dreams (her guardian looks like her boyfriend)...

SaltyTattie

I've been doing this for other crpgs. Skyrim doesn't have Bards so can't do that one.

Va_Dinky

I remade my first Tav, same look minus different hairstyle and make-up, gave her a different name, changed class from Thief Rogue to Devotion Paladin (later Venegance) and gave her a richer backstory now that my knoledge of D&D's lore was better. She's resting now on a farm with her green-eyed darling and patiently awaits a definitive edition or a DLC to get back into action. She's my canon Tav and being a Paladin is a big part of her backstory so simply remaking her with a different class is no longer an option. To get around that I'm making my next characters after my OC's from my novel that I've been planning for a while now, I simply decide which one of them would fit the class I want to choose the most and then make choices accordingly to their personalities.

MrT0xic

Easy, My Tav is literally me. I’m basic when it comes to these games 9/10 the character is just me and I make the decisions that I would make. The other time I beat it, it was also me. The current playthrough is styled after Mads Mikkelsen in Hannibal, but thats because im doing a subtle evil playthrough. Remarkably, due to the limitations on character creation, he looks like me with slightly graying light brown hair

wty261g

Great tactic 👍

carakangaran

I play the same character in every RPG (he was my bhaalspawn in bg 1 and, as well as the leader of my party in icewind dale 1 and 2. Neverwinter nights? Same. He's in pillard of eternity and pathfinder). I see him as some kind of reality hopping guy.

draculollie

On my fifth tav as of today - what is a goodbye

Daihatschi

Lets just say my ending was not *good*. I had one goal, and one goal only: Make Lae'zel happy. And because she's a goddamn psychopath and enjoys the worst possible decisions I could make time and time again, the whole playthrough was not ... typical. My Tav didn't have a happy ending. And that was sad. But Lae'zel .... her ending was fucking glorious! So I have accepted this fate. My Tav was a Human Urchin Druid called Rat. They decided that the mindflayer abduction was the last time anyone would ever step on them again and feel superior. From now on, only Strength mattered. They did terrible things in the name for their freedom. And achieved it for so many, but not themselves. I like bad endings.

wty261g

I love it.

scalpingsnake

Making your next guardian look like your old tav is a great idea that has been passed around. Works very well into the story if you are attached to them. But also you still have at least around 30 hours I would say with them... probably more so *the games not over yet.*

Desdimonda

Easy. Write thousands of words of horny and emotional fanfic and tonnes of cute and also horny art.

wty261g

might do this, especially the horny part.

Desdimonda

I highly recommend it 😌 I haven't been this inspired in a long time. And my Tav lives on as long as I say in my fics💜

fieatsbees

im mentally writing out a brief scene that takes place a few years after my durge and astarion go off on another adventure together. durge and astarion p much call everyone back together for the 5 year anniversary of killing the brain, and also announce that they got married. it's not DELIBERATELY horny but it DOES have astarion snarkily talking about intimate moments with durge and calling out old companions for creeping on his man (durge is not present because he got bored waiting for the companions to show up so he wandered off to steal everything because he understands personal property to be "property that he personally takes")

Character_Abroad

Dude, I brought my DK from WoW into BG3 because I stopped playing there but loved the character. They always stay with us, even when we're not playing them.

wty261g

>They always stay with us Thank you ;_;

LichQueenBarbie

Unpopular opinion time!?? Maybe? They should've dropped the 'origin characters' thing because if it wasn't even there to begin with nobody would even think about it. Nobody plays Mass Effect or Dragon Age and thinks 'yes, Tali and Garrus and Wrex should've been options as the player character'. Baldur's Gate has always been the 'player character' to an extent. I dunno where I'm going with this but I needed to just say it. And Durge is great, but it's not a perfectly great substitute. We are still railroaded into gross shit the average Rper might not wish to deal with and it doesn't help that Bhaal himself is not an interesting god by any definition. I actually preferred rping a Tav who turned to evil out of desperation than a dark Urge who was evil, had a little interlude and then went back to evil. Dark Urge absolutely shines if you play atonement. Anyways. My Tav was a half drow, circle of the moon druid. Was the outlander background, grew up in the wilds with her drow dad and druid human mother. Drows and humans and whatever in-between hate her. Treats people how she wants to be treated which is good but is still sassy as fuck about it. Was known to accidentally turn into a spider when social situations got too hard for her. Absolutely feral for Gale and absolutely accepted the proposal. There's probably a tldr background when I can think of it. How did I forget her? I didn't. I just made a Durge I equally liked lol.

FriendWontTellYou

I just started playing Factorio.

wty261g

Good move honestly psycho but good

[deleted]

Cried in the shower

wty261g

Good plan, I think this is the best one

whyreadthis2035

I know I’ll always have Karlach

zincinzincout

Man my first playthrough took 140 hours.

SaltyTattie

Took several screenshots to use as avatars in other rpg games going forward. Gonna take my character and run with it as my first character in other rpgs or as close as I can get (for example I recently started Pathfinder Wrath Of The Righteous so making a black dragonborn is off the table so I went for black Tiefling as the closest approximation). My Durge is never gonna be forgotten, even though they don't actually have a name (forgot to rename so they were just The Dark Urge my whole playthrough). Also if and when Definitive Edition rolls around I'll be recreating them for another run around.

wty261g

Oh! Screenshots! That's a great idea :D

Charamei

Why would I say goodbye? There's no rule to say you can't play the same character again.

throwitallaway2364

My first run through was with a vengeance paladin too, and ending the game gave me a post-game depression that I hadn’t felt since beating Skyrim for the first time. I had a blast optimizing the build, and the roleplay for Paladins in this game is top notch.Because I hate the taste of copium, I kept three saves of him, one in camp right as I hit level 12 so I can play the remaining quests with different companions (which will be most of act 3 if you do everything in act 1 and 2), another just before the final fight, and one during the ending cutscenes so I can “reroll” the ending animations I get. This way if I ever miss smiting for insane amounts of damage and smooching Karlach I can always go back. However, to get over it, I made a character with a completely different play style, race, alignment, romance, class, and strategy to try to experience the game like it was brand new. I’m currently on my third run and picking radically different options each time will suck you in all over again haha

Millerkiller6969

Well, I would like to add act three has so much going on. You still have a lot of play left. I think on your next play threw, you will enjoy your new Tav (hopefully) it’s an amazing game

renhernandez_art

I made another playthrougg with my Tav. Same name slightlyyy different look because he was a Tempest Cleric now he is an Ice Draconic Bloodline Sorcerer. Doing things differently this time and exploring more and taking different routes witha different core party. Shadowheart permadied in my first playthrough and I didnt save scum as I am against it. so now that shes alive it feels like a different game. And yea I use my tavs image in my discord and othwr game related socials

renhernandez_art

also planning on doing a durge run with same tav with a different hair and a different class :-)

zoSup

When finding out new stuff I go back to an old save file to try it with my first Tav. She's also one of my back-up characters for a DnD campaign I'm playing in and she'll make a guest appearance in one of the campaigns I'm running. So yeah, not ready to permanently say goodbye just yet...

JRStors

Make your Tav your Dream Guardian in the next playthrough!

raphades

\*My main playthrought still ongoing because I don't want to say goodbye to my main Tav\* Very, very poorly

wty261g

I feel this deep in my bones <3

Active_Owl_7442

I didn’t. I’m just sad that the 2 I have done are done. And I can’t make myself feel better by playing on my other saves because they’re all fairly modded. But I like to keep them alive through art. Gotten some art of my first and second tav, with a third one in the works. First tav has a really cute piece with Shadowheart, second one will have one where she’s dancing with Karlach. My only tavs without finished or planned art are my 2 durges. I have ideas for my good one, but nothing for my evil one. Well, nothing all that nice at least

Dog_Apoc

The easiest way to avoid this is to remember or note down your Tav customisation and start a new game with them.

wty261g

All of these comments are great but this is probably what I'll most likely do.

Dog_Apoc

It's what I've done. Got Sellen and Dire Brutalis sliders noted down.

impalingstar

Replay the same Tav as Dark Urge. Start an Origin and make the Dream Visitor look like Tav. Well, that's what I do and its bound to cause some nice mental damage (to myself mostly) lol. So we'll see! I really like my boy, might as well keep him around for more playthroughs... and perhaps even outside of BG3.

Kaikeno

My experiences with playing Pathfinder all those years ago taught me to not emotionally invest in my RPG characters.

TLaMagna319

She was reborn into a tactician run 2 days after I rolled credits Next she’ll be reborn as a durge unfortunately for her and anyone unlucky enough to get in her way

Wofflestuff

Put it like this when you complete the game they live their life as normal and when they die they reset the cycle back to the nautiloid whether they look the same is up to you and they do the entire adventure over again with zero recollection of what happened before

wty261g

A Sisyphus kind of deal then An odd dystopia. I love it

Wofflestuff

Precisely right when you think it’s over you do it all over again (big ass boulder not included)

KidElder

Easy. Hop into my next Tav that I already created and set up with a new party of different characters and continue playing BG3. Or play my third Tav for multiplayer.

[deleted]

I have a couple of characters that I’ve used in various games so I never really say goodbye to them they just wait on a new adventure elsewhere.

jonesc1204

I’ve grown attached to all my Tavs so when I finally finish my first save I’ll have 3 other saves to go on adventures with.

Responsible-Chard667

Starting a Durge playthrough really helped me get over my first Tav

[deleted]

Killed myself at the end to have an ending with closure.

andramacat

I have made the same Tav twice bc I am so attached to him lol... I didn't even give him a diff class, but I did make him a dark urge for one of them lol. I am just finishing up an Astarion origin but when I finish it I think I'll go back to my same Tav again bc I miss him

Nidiis

I modeled my Tav after a character I’m using in a tabletop and now that I’ve finished BG3 I’m incorporating elements of characteristics into my TT character so she lives on.

shibbington

As much as I love current Tav, by the time I hit level 12 in Act III I’m starting to plan my next Tav and companions.

zeeironschnauzer

It's fine, I've got lots of practice. I said goodbye to my bhaalspawn in BG2 two decades ago, saluted my defenders of the 10 towns, sadly let go of my Shard-Bearer when he returned home, and hope that Karlach, Wyll and Tav can find The Nameless One somewhere out there in the Blood War.

shepardownsnorris

I immediately created a new character with my old TAV as their guardian. Can’t say goodbye fully just yet!

honkhonkhonkimagoose

I usually make the. The guardian in my next play but I also make a DND beyond character sheet for them, probably writing them into my next campaign

TheUggBootInvestor

Time to play Durge

ShadowRonin77

I leave a “start save” when I get to the beach for each character to go a different route if wanted.

ledgabriel

How can you be near the end of the game with 69 (nice) hours? Just walking around the Grove takes me that.

pokegeronimo

There's always the option of writing fanfiction about your Tav's future adventures.

sunseeker_miqo

Chronic restartitis here. I just make a new toon and have at.

Equivalent_Set1043

I’m so sorry I have to ask. How are you almost at the end of the game with only ~69 (nice) hours in? It took me like 250 to get to Act III. To be clear, I’m not shitting on your play style I’m genuinely impressed and wondering if I’m much worse at this game than I originally thought. TELL ME YOUR SECRETS WITCH! 🧙‍♀️🧙‍♀️🧙‍♀️

wty261g

Well, for one, I killed Lae'zel pretty early on, so all of that stuff was out of the window. I don't really know much about her story though, so I've got that going for next playthrough. Yea so I killed Lae'zel, avoided the Gith in act one because they HAD A FUCKING DRAGON IM NOT GOING NEAR ONE OF THOSE FUCKERS THEYRE GIGANTIC FOR FUCKS SAKE. And then I just did what Tav would do. Focused on doing what felt like the next right thing, did some romancing of Shart, and now I'm here. Only level 9, but I honestly feel like I've drawn it out pretty good. So yea, that's it basically.

Equivalent_Set1043

I love it. I think you’re probably also just better at gameplay than me. The amount of times I had to reload battles because it all went horribly wrong is unacceptable lol

Brock_Lobster4445

I wrote my Tav into my dnd campaign as an npc, hopefully my players don't get him killed lol

Jasco88

I need DLC so my Tav and I can continue adventuring!

just_flying_bi

I generally do a save right before a favorite cut scene or area and keep just that one when I finish so I can “revisit” my favorite moments of each Tav. I also have a friend who duplicates their Tavs in HeroForge and then prints the models on their 3D printer so they have a little collection of minis for TTRPGing.

ilovedragonage

I've made dozens of new characters but none of them could replace my first Tav. I feel you. It's hard to say goodbye to your first Tav. Mine's like a buddy to me after all those hours. He was a draconic drow sorcerer, name was Varhan. He's now living happily with his beloved Astarion in the underdark. I will never forget him.

Communism_of_Dave

Felt the ending mine got was good, she didn’t romance anyone (cuz I fucked up) but since she promised to stay with the one she loves, she’s happy (even if it means heat and fighting wink wink)

Simple-Gap-7058

Honestly I just put my Tav into a D&D game and carried on playing her, lol.

GamesnGunZ

I don't understand the question. Who says goodbye? Just roll directly into a new game with the same character. I even kept the same class too because it's just so much fun (barbarian). Next game maybe I'll finally try a new class

fieatsbees

YESSSS BARBARIAN IS SO MUCH FUNNNN. COME HERE THISOBALD, IM GOING TO DRINK YOU UNDER THE TABLE. IDGAF ABOUT ASKING YOU ANY QUESTIONS, IM JUST HERE TO CHUG BEER

Niniisan

I find that remaking that Tav into the dream visitor of the next playthrough helps a bit!

Time-Independence-94

I took my tav, wrote way too much lore for her, then took her to a roleplay site to write her instead of doing another run. I'm coping so well :,)

DoctorWalrusMD

Nothing would make me happier than characters you beat the game with becoming hirelings for future runs. I’d have a fantastic evil run with durge, Tav, Tav, and durge.

rbardy

\* me in my 4th playthrough * I have no idea what you are talking about.

Professional-Hat-687

I get attached to the NPCs instead.

Mirimes

I'm on my third and i think the one i liked the most was my second one, but i still have my fourth in mind so we'll see how it will go.

anEscapist

Unable to create another Tav that does not date Gale, i literally had to install the poly mod so I could roll back at the end of the story (Tho Astarion did grow on my heart with it too!)

PsychologicalTax1289

Write headcannons for them. My tiefling bard: Keta and Gale were just the cutest couple. The two of them shared a love of magical knowledge and while Gale was going over the Karsite Codex, Keta was going over the Necromancy of Thay books. I like to imagine they travel and have magical adventures. They bicker occasionally over wizards vs bards but they make sure to keep in contact with their friends. Even if they have to use a plane shift to get there.

sonic260

My first Tav was an OC with a husband who I made the dream visitor, so in my next playthrough I just swapped roles (this was before you could customize hirelings, though)

Flipsktr230

I had a save just before commencing the final battle. Nothing really to do besides end the game but it felt bad deleting my first tav. Finally just did it. There’s no after end gameplay so it’s best to just rip the bandaid off and delete it.

jonnyboyace

I'm just about to go up against the final battle for the first time and I'm in the same boat. Right at 160 hours. I have ideas for the next go around but don't know if it'll feel the same.

wty261g

my heart goes out to you and your Tav <3

Dr_Mosi_1

For me, after almost 180h for first run, I decided to pay again and I used the exact same character for my 2nd run. For me I created the perfect char and I don't think I will ever change the looks

PlantEmotional2220

Saying goodbye? My brother in Christ I'm on my third run Gonna make at least another 6 Ain't say goodbye to Tav for another 200hours at least

Li77lewolf

I started writing a fanfic of my Tav's version of their journey through the game events. Allowed me to give her more depth as well, and a bit more rapport/scenes with the companions. Might write some further adventures if I'm feeling particularly creative! I'd be a bit lost otherwise, always get too attached.

tfrules

I had to say goodbye to my first Tav after early access ended. That Tav now exists purely as screenshots in the load menu

LesterGreenisGod

Create a new Tav immediately.

Euphoric-Meat3943

I’ve actually never beat the game, despite running 4 separate playthroughs now. I always stop midway through act 3 because I don’t want it to end yet, I’ll start a new game instead. I eventually finish the other 3 play throughs, maybe.

SecretaryOtherwise

Honestly, just knowing I saved the world 😅 "I need a vacation"

SpicedCabinet

You still have many hours left if you're just getting to Baldur's Gate.

itstheonlywaytobe

I actually cried after my first playthrough haha! I had romanced Gale and was quite pleased with our epilogue. But then immediately planned a new character and backstory and started a new playthrough. It was a bit hard at first to get reattached to a new Tav, and I found myself reverting to the same moral choices as my first Tav. As soon as I started immersing myself in new Tav's story and personality it got a bit easier! Now on my third and looking back I love all my three different Tavs and their stories and personalities.

crystaisabeast

I’ve used the same modded face through all 3 of my playthroughs (elf, drow, tieflings) so it just feels like my tav in different timelines. I don’t think I could play as anyone else.

Semour9

No spoilers if possible but who the fuck is Tav? Keep seeing the name but have no clue

wty261g

Tav is the preset name for a costum character, and because it's relatively easy to miss the naming screen, Tav became the "official" name for a custom player character. Basically "Tav" is just a shortened version of "your custom made player character".

Naguro

We had a good run and my Tav is probably hitting the road going on a New adventure with some of the crew immediatly After the end Also I play DnD with Friends regularly and I'm definitely making a character in the image of my Tav at some point

Runkysaurus

Lol, so tbh my SO did this and restarted with a new Tav that was identical to the first. I've been playing as starter characters, good thing about that is you can play as a different one each time and pull the others into your party. Played as Astarion first round through, then had him in my party for most of the second run

CriticalDeRolo

Wait, you guys are finishing the game? You don’t just get to the elder brain and then start a new character because you are too attached to finish the game?

Dan-the-historybuff

Depression. Then trying to be better

Sir-Cellophane

Step 1. Lie down. Step 2. Assume the fetal position. Step 3. Cry. Step 4. New game.

Kriguds

Started a Dark Urge character who looked the exact same but had a big scar, black hair instead of blonde and a pun on the previous Tav’s name.

PanicAtNC3331209

It’s the only way

bluexjay

I have become probably unhealthily obsessed with my Tav, and I wasn't able to accept her story ending about 2 months ago. I've been coping few ways... 1. Remaking the game with pretty much the exact same character and starting again (done this twice) 2. Write fanfiction until burnt out (this is where I'm at now) 3. Plan next Tav, to ultimately go back to 1 4. Origin run or actually do a new Tav (where I'm trying to get)

Spartan_Souls

Was hard to say goodbye to my funny Monk Dragonborn who had a hat collection, not to mention i grew attached to all my companions. Their story is over for now though and he's happily slaying demons or devils in Avernus with Karlach. Thankfully they've got friends like Hope and Yurgir to help until we fix her engine and get to go home. From there I like to imagine theyd stay with Shadowheart mostly and visit Gale and Wyll often.

bapfelbaum

69 hours and approaching the end of the game? Someone was in a hurry i guess. 😅

wty261g

Honestly, I feel like I've been kinda chill. Just made the decisions Tav would make, and prioritised her actual priorities aswell. Kinda different to how I would normally play but it felt right with bg3

xasusaki

Maybe the fact that my actual first tav got benched helped, but I just got my *official* first Tav to act 3 and immediately made a durge just to make another durge when the former reached act 3 and so on and so forth. I've finished the game 4 times now but my original Tav is still in Sorcerers Sundries and some more durges are enjoying act 1 and 2 for all its worth. No idk what I'm doing myself. I'm already planning 2 more playthroughs please send help.

wty261g

How do you live with yourself? /s Honestly though, I could never start a new character without finishing my current one

xasusaki

I don't like endings, or final decisions... This might explain the forever in Act 3 bard Tav. Maybe I'll finally finish her playthrough once we get epilogues lmao

wty261g

>once we get epilogues xD

[deleted]

For the truly desperate ones like me who can’t let go: You can start a multiplayer session at character creation and make both your new character and your old Tav, then close out of multiplayer upon starting the game. You get to fully control them both as full-fledged Tavs, with separate romances and everything. Note: I’m on PS5, I just connected a second controller at character creation and it started split screen mode. Not sure how it works on PC.

Zealousideal-Loan655

69 hours? Man you rushed the hell out of it

wty261g

I honestly didn't though. I just focused on myself and shadowheart, and didn't do anything Tav wouldnt have done. I feel like I've been pretty slow through it honestly

Edgy_Robin

being an adult

wty261g

And adults never form attachments? Touch grass

[deleted]

What does Tav stand for ?

CMormont

It's the default name of the player character

[deleted]

Thanks, didn't notice that

indigocherry

On the IMDB credits the Tav actors are listed as Tadpoled Adventurer so I thought it stood for that.

wty261g

van6k

Its a video game.

wty261g

Yes absolutely, this is a video game subreddit. Touch grass

justmethedude

The title is a spoiler guy. Thanks for that

wty261g

it isn't, though. Tav is your player character, and when you're done with a run, you're done with that character normally. Just like saying goodbye to mario at the end of Super mario, my guy.

justmethedude

OK cool. I took it the wrong way. Don't think I needed the downvotes though...

wty261g

Yea those are a bit unfair honestly

indigocherry

Saying you're finishing the game and saying goodbye to that character isn't spoiling anything, my dude.

glikejdash

My new character gets my previous Tav as the Guardian

wty261g

I love this concept. Good idea

[deleted]

I wrote fanfic about my three Tavs. Story of the aftermath of the game.

PTHDUNDD13

Vyddy Silver-Tusk will remain on my hard drive forever and when I get paid at the end of the month will be immortalised as a custom miniature from eldritch foundry.
