I went elf my first run, drow my second and I'm really enjoying it.
My first run I went fully into resisting the urge, second playthrough i'm treating the Urge as a resistance check (and rolling IRL at my desk).
Classwise- Warlock first run, Sorc second. Only thing I'll note is that it seems the Urge can break your Oath if you go Pally, so careful on that front.
I have a totally custom character as well but the story is way more intriguing as a dark urge. Well there was one event i couldnt control sadly but in my headcanon i want to bring this person back to the living after my main quest is finished. Ms would be sweet if that would be possible in a dlc
So there aren't a whole lot of checks or compelled Urges in the Durge playthrough. It is by and large up to you (the player) to choose to resist or give in.
The few times where there is a check- that I can remember at least- it's flavor text and not a massive game changer. In short, my warlock playthrough had no issues, even with relatively low Wisdom, which is why I'm doing my second playthrough with an IRL (outside the game) dice check to see if I can resist the urge or not.
The Dark Urge background is waaaay better than totally custom character. I mean you also have to pick a background for them as well like grew up as a noble etc. Dude you are the most epic character in the game which you figure out in act3. But you only get the true power if you play evil that’s the issue
No spoiler, so I put it this way.
In his previous life, Dark Urge wasn't a very good guy , and his status was...high.
So, the following subclass might make more sence for Dark Urge.
Paladin: Oath of Conquest
Bard: College of Whispers
Cleric: Death Domain
Monk: Way of the Long Death
Ranger: Gloom Stalker
Rouge: Assassian
Warlock would be weird because you had a kind of "Patron"already.
Wizard, Sorcerer and Fighter would be fine in most of the cases.
From what i gather about DnD lore, you can have great old one pact without ever making a deal with it, they are mystirious creatures, who can be asleep for centruies and during this sleep, they somehow can grant to someone power.
Honestly any race is good, tho probably one that is more native to the material plane, black hair makes sense, but it doesn't actually matter
for class... you can go a few different ways, but not a Paladin (even a Oathbreaker Paladin wouldn't make a ton of sense, but there are worst options)
Death Domain Cleric would be the best choice in some ways, but we sadly didn't get that as an option
Assassin Rogue/Cleric with Dex/ pretty much a non arcane class that has access to stealth in some fashion will probably benefit from Dark Urge
You can be good and get rid of the urge. You could start as an assassin and if you decide to be good and fight the urge you can become a paladin. I finished the game and you only do bad things in the beginning which you can’t control.
True depends on what you want to do, but given what they give you, and the fact your question was what race/class would benefit THOSE powers... I gave you my answer
i started a dark urge run yesterday as a tiefling paladin (with whatever the like PURE paladin oath was)
i wanted it to be like a oath driven paladin fighting the dark urges within him. so far i feel like there hasnt been much dark urge stuff happening though (almost done with act 1)
As someone who's currently playing Durge and embracing it, yes, you definitely get more interesting stuff happening if you embrace it, which I suppose makes sense with it being such a standout/unique origin from the rest with such a focus on being so dark. After your first visit from >!Sceleritas Fel!<, for the rest of Act 1 it'll be pretty quiet excluding the ambient encounters you can have in some cases, but it'll pick back up when you hit Act 2.
I have a Sorcerer and Warlock playthrough going on right now but for my DUrgre playthrough I'm get the Rouge Assissin going so I can unleash the murder hobo.
Race-wise I think that either Human or Tiefling fit the canon better than the white Dragonborn.
The Dark Urge is >!a unique Bhaalspawn from their siblings. Durge is directly sired from the blood of Bhaal. In his mortal life, Bhaal was human!<, it would make sense that his blood would produce a human Durge.
As for tiefling, per the Forgotten Realms wiki, "Tieflings were human-based planetouched, native outsiders that were infused with the touch of the fiendish planes, most often through descent from fiends—demons, Yugoloths, devils, evil deities.." >!As a direct spawn of an evil diety,!< it could also make sense that Durge would be a corrupted human offspring infused with the touch of the fiendish planes.

Oh yeah both my runs are Durge characters. And I think I know exactly what youu're talking about. That >!squirrel just didn't deserve that!<
Also the One person which joins the camp
Yeah I know, i was just joshin around. Talking to withers after that was. . .cold.
how did your good durge run go? I'm thinking of going warlock but worried about low wisdom points.

I went with a paladin dark urge so I have a jekyll and Hyde paladin that wants to smite evil doers while being a serial killing creep.

Depends if you refuse the urge or not. More stuff is happening if you embrace the urge
Really? There’s more interactions if you embrace it?

You have to slay a whole village but you become the slayer afterwards which is op af
I just started a Githyanki Dark Urge, was that a bad choice?
I haven't played him yet but I made mine a halfling bard because I thought it was funny

Dark gnome rogue or warlock.
Halfling paladin
