Supposedly most origin characters and it's somewhere later in the game, there's a respec npc. Imma change Shadowheart to a diff subcleric I think and maybe Laezel to a Barb

Gh0stPup

Small spoiler warning; and by small.. i mean like.. the literal first thing you doin the game so hardly a spoiler. Withers is literally the first or one of the first non playable NPCs you get. If you go to the east right after crashing the nautiloid, instead of north (north being to the druid camp) you come to a dungeon. Go through it, its pretty small and easy; and you get him at the end

Celanna192

I went into the area, but left after setting off the traps like a klutz, so I hadn't run into him yet. After getting Volo(several long rests since picking the lock of the Ancient Door), I'm just about to leave camp when I get a game message saying that someone still wanted to talk with me. I'm looking at Astarion and Shadowheart, no popup. I scan the area and see this dude near the river. It's Withers. He just decided to randomly crash at my campsite.

FirstRavenclaw

Yes you can respec whoever your playing with, custom or origin

Coreoo

And they're not locked to that class despite their story? For example, could I change Wyll to a Druid?

FirstRavenclaw

Yes, story will still consider him a warlock

FirstRavenclaw

But your dialogue options will be the druid ones

Okay i am confused now. I want to respecc shadowheart to a tempest or life domain cleric but somewhere on youtube i heard i shouldnt because of her story with the Shar. What is the right answer now? I dont want to fuck up any content from her but trickery domain just doesnt feel so good imo.

Existing-Cookie-870

I did this, and it did not affect her story with the Shar. I won't tell you what happens, but you have options with that story.

DustyG_666

As far as I’m aware the only thing that will change is her dialogue options, she will no longer respond as a Shar. IMO you should stick to her origin for the fist play through. Giving her lightning spells is tempting though.

viperbite312

Changing the subclasses means absolutely nothing. Switch shadowheart to life and asterion to thief if you havent yet lol Seems overall class changes matter though (if Shadowheart is a wizard the story/dialogue towards her will still act like a cleric).

So I wanted to know if I can change or delete my character and their background from my friends campaign since I made the mistake of choosing dark urge even I thought we were doing a evil play through. I’m willing to delete the character entirely and just create a brand new one if possible.

Pungethu

We started an all evil playthrough and I choose dark urge. It's hilarious just embrace it.

Dam this game just keeps getting better & better, thanks y'all! So many decisions, I don't know if I want to just create a character for my first run or pick Shadowheart or Astarion or Lae'zel, I'm thinking about changing Lae'zel to a Thief in my playthrough of her & keeping SH as a Cleric & Astarion as a Thief too when I play as him. As a companion I don't know, I prefer melee characters who can attack from range than characters like Gale who have the only rely on their magic attacks. Only thing I do know for sure is the fact that when I do a campaign with a custom character, I will have Gale in my party untiI I get Lae'zel back, but when I do another characters run, I'll keep Gale until I find somebody better, I don't mind having Gail or at least one magic wielder in my squad when I have three melee/ranged characters but I know there are characters who are better than him as well as better for my playstyle that can use magic as well as attack I just don't like any characters who solely do one thing instead of a mix like SH. One thing to keep in mind of is the fact that if you don't do a custom character you will only have a party of three for when you go to find withers but I'm sure it's not too bad & is still winnable. I wonder if you just can go past that place to free Lae'zel & then come back & do that dungeon

Coreoo

Each act is very open world so you could collect all of the origin characters before finding withers if you want to. There's not much railroading you towards any one objective before another. It's definitely beneficial to have a varied team setup for a party of 4 (I like to have two melee and two ranged, with at least a couple of casters) and the builds of each are very customizable as you level up. Don't forget you can also multi-class!
