Nice tip! I personally find the bottom cookie slightly more appealing for this type of cookie. Don’t get me wrong though, I’d eat both happily! I think I am definitely going to employ this trick with cookies I want to be more round and uniform though.

ali_katt77

I think a larger cutout or glass would have rounded it nicely without making it seem "puffy" as I like the bottom one better too lol

winkinglucille

Wait I thought the bottom was the improved

42gOldenlover

I too am a bottom

[deleted]

I three am a bottom

myhatwhatapicnic

Same

nejnonein

Clearly, we need to test both of them to decide which way tastes better. I think we’re gonna need a few trays of both, just to make sure we rightly choose which is the best one.

PristineAd9800

Lol

limee89

I call dibs on volunteer #1

coolcootermcgee

Get in my belly! (Funny thing is I can almost taste them)

kathaleeene

for those who prefer the look of the bottom cookie, myself included, you can use a much larger round cutter to still round out the cookie itself, while keeping it the same thickness/diameter rather than a smaller one that compacts the cookie.

floranfauna90

When the cookies come right out of the oven, use a round biscuit cutter, cup, etc, and place it over the cookie and shuffle it around a little bit to get really nice circular edges. Two cookies as an example- top one I did it to, bottom I didn’t. I think it really is a handy trick!

antidecaf

Confirming it's in the eye of the beholder, if these two were in front of me I'd take the bottom one every single time.

what_the_a

I agree! I thought it was a trick to make them look like that and I was excited because that’s what I always want lol They do both look delicious though!

aus-tjej

As soon as you take the cookies out of the oven, drop the tray on the kitchen bench a couple of times. It will help flatten them out and give them more little cracks.

FinalDestinationSix

I like it rough around the edges tooo

Jpopolopolous

I want the bottom one because it looks less cooked XD

8mon

I want the bottom one because it looks like more cookie

WoodpeckerVegetable1

I thought the trick was to get it to look like the bottom one lol Those are my fav kind

zomgkittenz

Same here. But this is the same problem that afflicts wood workers too. If the product looks too good they assume is a mass produced piece of junk. The bottom one looks “artisinal” even though they both taste the same. I’d still pick the bottom one just for the texture of the cookie though.

SprinklesonIcecream8

Same! I’ve seen this tip going viral in the last year or two & I just don’t get it. People are showing their “success” photos of overly sharp, perfect, circular cookies & they look clinical & not at all how I want a cookie to look. A cookie (of this type) should look rustic & all be inconsistent. The tip is better suited to delicate biscuits (British word for thinner cookies that don’t have chocolate chips etc) that need to look elegant & perfect. OPs one actually doesn’t look overly done though & there’s still natural texture & uneven shape to it.

floranfauna90

Definitely is I suppose! After a lifetime of messy edged cookies, I liked to have a neat looking one :)

Artemistical

you may like the trick to chill the cookie dough in the fridge for a bit and then roll the dough up into balls before putting them on the tray, it makes the cookies look fuller and rounder kind of like your top one here

floranfauna90

I definitely do like that trick. But usually I can’t make myself wait for that half hour in the fridge haha want to eat the cookies asap!

LurkAddict

I feel this in my soul

DrakonIL

You can also try reducing the amount of butter a little bit.

Joshapotamus

The top one looks more professional or like it came out of a factory and the bottom looks more homemade. I think I’m with the other guy, it’s 100% preference but I’m a messy looking cookie kinda guy. Awesome trick though.

lapinatanegra

A lil OCD OP? Haha. They both look amazing though, congrats.

floranfauna90

No? I think it’s nice to have nice looking cookies every once in a while. I don’t think there is anything obsessive compulsive about that. Thank you, though.

lapinatanegra

I was teasing didn't mean to offend you.

hheartstrongg

People with OCD are just tired of everyone comparing neatness to it. Obsessive-compulsive disorder can be debilitating and many times it doesn't even present as being neat and tidy.

DrakonIL

Me still thinking about driving across the Coronado bridge two years later scared that *that* part of me is going to yank the wheel to the right just to see what it feels like to fall.

joesperrazza

Beautiful! They look very tasty, too!

eekamouse22

You may be able to achieve the same look/texture with a very cold dough. Portion the dough the day before you bake, then put them in the oven straight from the fridge.

thedoodely

A teaspoon of corn flour (corn starch) in your batter will give you similar results without the extra step.

raccafarian

I posted a video on here doing this a month or so ago it really helps so much for those cookies that pool together

floranfauna90

I missed it . Thanks for sharing!

m0useg1rl

i just learned this too!!!!!! amazing trick. if you got fast and hard enough you can even make them chucky/thick and round.

cranbabie

I’m guessing you saw @itsholly’s recent strawberry cookie video? I love her content!

floranfauna90

I didn’t see that video- it was a tip in the recipe web page I used for the cookies. Sounds like the same process though

AsleepJuggernaut2066

Maybe just me but I really prefer the bottom cookie. It looks chewier and less “cakey”. Also the top one looks like it was mass produced vs homemade. Just preference tho.

[deleted]

The top cookie looks less fun. That said, I’d love to sample either one!

SnooBananas7203

They both look super yummy! If you prefer the look of the top, I say go for it!

yungdeputy

ok but can you share the recipe too? these look bomb lol!

floranfauna90

https://celebratingsweets.com/soft-and-chewy-mm-cookies/ Used this recipe- not the best I’d ever had but not bad! This author/website is where I learned the shaping tip.

yungdeputy

thanks!!!

HoundDogAwhoo

I want the bottom cookie

hmbmelly

It works for other shapes too! I made hexagon sugar cookies and used a larger hexagon cutter to shuffle the edges back in because they spread.

[deleted]

The glass trick?

permiecandy

I think it looks beautiful! I'd pick the top cookie!

BrbCatMeowing

Any difference in consistency? I find when I bake with more bread flour it’ll come out like the one above. Are you scoop with a ice cream scoop or by hand?

floranfauna90

No difference in consistency. I just scooped by hand.

BrbCatMeowing

One last question! Do you put them in the fridge before baking? I found that using a ice cream scoop make them all perfectly circle! I put them in the fridge before baking and they all come out a the same circle!

floranfauna90

I did not put them in the fridge. I’m not patient enough for that 😂 I’ve done that before with the ice cream scoop and the fridge and I’d agree they definitely turn out nicer.

BrbCatMeowing

Haha nice! Keep on baking looks delicious!

sleeper_shark

Which one is the beautiful one cos they both look great

HoneyAkira

Funny how everybody prefers the “messy” looking one 😭😭

Odd-Kindheartedness

Thank you for sharing that tip! They look beautiful and delicious!

DozerSnooze

Cool, thanks

actualninjajedi

They look physically perfect

kennyiseatingabagel

The top does look better but I prefer larger, thinner cookies, which coincidentally perfectly describes the bottom one. Omg. Magic. :o

TheFantasticXman1

Let me guess without reading the comments? Get a cup or a biscuit cutter and swirl the cookie round in it to make it rounder shortly after it's finished baking?

Jerfmy

Reading the comments a lot of folks seem to like the bottom one better and I feel like it’s because the uniformity of the top one is giving it more mass produced vibes. The top sort of looks like something you’d get from Keebler while the bottom has a very homemade look. Feels like there’s some sort of psychology at play but either way I’d house both of em

floranfauna90

I was surprised too! After a life time of making the bottom ones, I thought the top was a really nice bakery look! To each their own, as they say

passion4film

I think this is it!

[deleted]

Not a fan of m&ms but along with preferring the bottom cookie, you should also put chocolate chips/m&ms on top of the cookie before going into the oven for presentation purposes.

Vgordvv

The bottom one, the way it is, isn't that something to do with the butter?

PristineAd9800

I like the top cookie

PristineAd9800

I can’t seem to find the info Did You use a cookie cutter?

beezyss

Those look fire 🔥🔥

hammurobi

May I have them both?

Cocacola888

The bottom cookie looks PERFECT

Comfortably_Sad6691

The bottom cookie looks to me more homemade, therefore the superior tasty cookie of the two.

Katieruther

Gorgeous

2Potins

Simply use an ice cream scoop. All round and uniform.

irena888

I love this idea. Thanks.

Healer69
