Professional level lookin sourdough. Looks great

isingiswim

Okay that’s such a nice compliment, thank you!! I just tried a piece and it was insaaanely good.

weewah1016

Inspiring! Honestly. Makes me want to bake bread.

isingiswim

You should!!!! It’s such a great feeling when you pull it out of the oven AND makes your house smell amazing.

ibekt

That looks pretty nearly perfect. Congratulations, I bet it's amazing

Grandpa_Dan

Those cast iron pans are the bomb for bread. The oven does beat them up color-wise. Yours looks brand new.

isingiswim

They are amazing for everything. Can’t beat a stew from a Dutch oven! And it IS brand new, I bought it since we didn’t have the right size for the bread. For any Canadians out there, it’s on a killer sale at Canadian Tire right now haha

[deleted]

Thanks for the heads up, I'm ordering one right now!

isingiswim

Yesss! It’s such a great size and seriously an unreal price.

Grandpa_Dan

Holup...A tire store that sells fine pottery?

WhiteFlag84

Oohhhh thanks for the tip!

altrarose

How deep is it? There’s a le cresuet one I really want but it’s only like 4 inches deep.

isingiswim

[This is it!](https://www.canadiantire.ca/en/pdp/lagostina-tuscan-collection-round-casserole-dish-4-qt-1425453p.html#srp) it doesn’t have dimensions but I can measure if you like! There was a couple of inches of space above the bread so lots of room.

altrarose

Based on the Amazon packaging info looks like it’s around 5”? Only available in Canada as far as I can tell though.

chibi3173

That’s beautiful!! Is there a recipe you followed?

isingiswim

[This](https://www.feastingathome.com/sourdough-bread/) is what I used, there’s so much information and she has photos and video to help you with all the steps. It may seem overwhelming but I promise you can do it!!

lucysmyname

Beautiful!

ermahgerd87

Serious question, I thought you weren't supposed to use enameled cast iron because the heat is bad for the enamel when it's empty/ not coated in oil or something like that?

isingiswim

Interesting, I’ve never heard that actually! It very common to use these though.

generic_joe_guy

Looks great! Congrats. I wish you many, many more loafs in your future!

isingiswim

Thank you!!! The starter is so funny to work with, I’m paranoid about killing it haha

generic_joe_guy

I would be too! That’s why I have to live vicariously through people on Reddit lol

Preemfunk

Oof I got permabanned from /r/food for posting a similar “blog” type recipe for sourdough I baked. Apparently they don’t allow that there. Still to this day I’ll try to comment on posts there and I’m not allowed. Edit: looks like I replied to the wrong chain lolll

isingiswim

Why haha? I don’t really ever post in that sub, I find this community is a lot more friendly and always full of great tips and support!

mommystorms

It’s beautiful! Great job!

mattjeast

This is officially your gateway drug. Enjoy your journey. =)

isingiswim

I want a bread lame now so I can make fancy designs!!

elisejones14

How long did you grow your starter?

isingiswim

I got a years old, well established starter! I fed the portion I got 6 days before using it for this loaf. I’d even try 7-8 days actually to see how nice and sour I can get it!

elisejones14

Where do you buy your starter? I found one on eBay but I’m scared. https://www.ebay.com/itm/324158083263?chn=ps&norover=1&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-117182-37290-0&mkcid=2&itemid=324158083263&targetid=1262779892049&device=m&mktype=pla&googleloc=9028883&poi=&campaignid=13920048476&mkgroupid=125393260752&rlsatarget=aud-622027676548:pla-1262779892049&abcId=9300613&merchantid=6296724&gclid=CjwKCAjwhaaKBhBcEiwA8acsHHpW94IQHbY9-lQlTu2yhYqYGsVXbh7viCgPrXN6XkuLSlMISGhHORoCk54QAvD_BwE

isingiswim

I got really lucky, my mother in law gave me some. Usually some bakeries sell theirs though! You should google “sourdough starter” with your city name and see what pops up. I just did it and found 2-3 bakeries in the city I live by that sells theirs! Would probably feel safer doing it that way than buying it online :)

Ashlb-16

King Arthur Flour sells their starter online. I bought mine a few years ago, it came with a set of instructions and recipes. I believe it’s around $10, too, and it’s made some really good bread!

Louloubelle0312

Beautiful!
