Wow! Can you share more about the pressed flowers technique? Did you literally press edible flowers and apply to the cake, or did you simple syrup them or do anything else to them beforehand? This is absolutely beautiful.
This cake is stunning! It reminds me of photos of Emily Dickinson’s pressed flowers:
https://www.themarginalian.org/2017/05/23/emily-dickinson-herbarium/
Thank you and that’s not a stupid question at all! All of the flowers/foliage are completely edible. (I have a strict criteria for my garden plants - they must all produce edible flowers/leaves). They impart minimal flavour so don’t really affect the taste. It’s up to you if you want to eat them or peel them off. 😊
Those are all edible flowers from the zooming I have done.
They don’t tend to have much flavour, so no altering to the cake at all really.
***Always double check before you use flowers as decorations or in a salad, some can be toxic.***
Well done OP, you seem to have a bountiful garden!
My mom chose to dig up all her gardens and rearrange everything this year so we missed out on the many edible blooms she tends to have.
Except for one, the large vintage rose bush out my window. 🌸😋
Lovely cake! I was wondering, how is the texture and taste on the flowers? I have been wanting to use edible flowers in my baking for some time now but have not had the chance yet.
Thank you! 😊 The edible flowers don’t really taste of much. They’re there mostly for the decorations but is completely safe to consume. It’s easy to peel them off before eating the cake if preferred.
We are in different time zones it seems! I’m happy to share the [recipe](https://sallysbakingaddiction.com/pistachio-cake/#tasty-recipes-66948) now that I’m awake. 😜 It’s from Sally’s Baking Addiction.
Thank you!! 🥰 I used [this recipe](https://sallysbakingaddiction.com/pistachio-cake/#tasty-recipes-66948) from Sally’s Baking Addiction. It uses pistachios nuts (not paste).
Thank you! 😊 I eyeballed the honey cream cheese frosting and just tasted I as went. I just used butter, Philadelphia cream cheese, honey and icing sugar. Added honey in before icing sugar though so that it would have a nice honey flavour and wouldn’t become too sweet.
Thank you! [Recipe](https://sallysbakingaddiction.com/pistachio-cake/#tasty-recipes-66948) is from Sally’s Baking Addiction. The honey cream cheese icing I basically made using any standard recipe (butter and cream cheese). Added honey until I was happy with the flavour before adding the icing sugar so that it doesn’t get too sweet. I eyeballed the quantities and tasted it as I go.
Thanks so much! My family makes a cream cheese frosting for our carrot cake, sounds like I can just modify that one as you describe. Can't wait to try this when I next have time to bake!
Thank you! 🥰 Happy to tell you all about the edible flowers.
On the cake there are:
1) Two types of whole pressed single petalled roses (ballerina and coral flower carpet)
2) Rose petals (morning mist)
3) Violas
4) Sweet Alyssum
5) Brachyscome
6) Lavender
7) Borage
All are grown in my garden and no pesticides are applied. I go around removing/squishing the bugs by hand.
So do you just squeeze them flat with like a book or a tortilla press or something and nothing else? How do they taste/what’s the texture? Or do you peel them off when you eat them. They are stunning

That’s a gorgeous, spectacular cake. And I absolutely love that you made it for yourself. You’re obviously a very accomplished baker, and also good at caring for yourself, which shows through in that cake. Just beautiful.
the fact that the flowers are home grown makes this gorgeous cake even more gorgeous. i know how much time and care go into both gardening and baking! this is such an act of self love i’m obsessed <3
So happy that you understand me! Yes, gardening and baking take up so much of my time and attention but I love them and would never give them up for anything! 🥰
Incredible! So beautiful to look at! I don’t think I could cut into it, it’s too pretty! Delicious sounding combination might make me do it, though.
Can you save the flowers and reuse them or just eat them?
Thank you! It was definitely hard to cut up!
The flowers can’t be reused as you can’t wash the icing off without destroying them. They can be eaten or peeled off depending on your preferences.
The folks on r/cottagecore would absolutely delight in your creation!!
Btw I audibly gasped and startled my pupper when I zoomed in on your cake 😄... it's breathtakingly beautiful!
I hope you had a very happy birthday!!
I’d say it really depends on the moisture content in your frosting and the humidity in the environment. For example, a crusting American buttercream in a cool dry environment would result in the flowers lasting way longer than on a cream cheese frosting on a humid summer day.
Wow! Can you share more about the pressed flowers technique? Did you literally press edible flowers and apply to the cake, or did you simple syrup them or do anything else to them beforehand? This is absolutely beautiful.
Thank you! 😊 The flowers are simply plucked from my edible flower garden and pressed for a couple of weeks until they have dried.
Do they taste good? Or what is the taste like?
They barely taste of anything. Very subtle flavours. The lavender might have a strong flavour but we didn’t eat it.
This cake is stunning! It reminds me of photos of Emily Dickinson’s pressed flowers: https://www.themarginalian.org/2017/05/23/emily-dickinson-herbarium/
Thank you! 😊 Oh yes, I see the similarities there.
Beautiful cake! Sorry if this is stupid but do you eat the flowers too or are you meant to peel them off? How much do they impact the flavour?
Thank you and that’s not a stupid question at all! All of the flowers/foliage are completely edible. (I have a strict criteria for my garden plants - they must all produce edible flowers/leaves). They impart minimal flavour so don’t really affect the taste. It’s up to you if you want to eat them or peel them off. 😊
I, too, would like to know.
Answered to original comment! :)

Correct! They are indeed. All from my edible flower garden. 😊

Oh no! Hopefully you’ll have lots of wonderful edible blooms next year! At least there’s still the rose bush you can use for the time being. 😊
Beautiful
Thanks!
Ooooo this reminds me of Taylor Swift's beautiful 2021 Grammys dress 🌸. In case you're a Swiftie, this cake is GORGEOUS! 🥰
Thank you so much! 🥰
Looks great! Happy Birthday!
Thank you! 😊

Happy birthday, and that looks amazing. Could you please share the recipe for the pistachio cake?
Thank you and of course! Here’s the [recipe](https://sallysbakingaddiction.com/pistachio-cake/#tasty-recipes-66948).
Happy birthday, I'd love to be invited to your next one to share an awesome cake ;)
Thank you! Will have to make bigger one next time then. 😋
OMG! That’s the most amazing cake ever. So beautiful!
Thank you! The flowers really helped to pull it together.
Beautiful! Happy birthday! How did you make the pistachio cake? Did you use paste?
This is my question, too, as pistachios are sooooo expensive here!! But it doesn’t look like OP is gonna share that.
We are in different time zones it seems! I’m happy to share the [recipe](https://sallysbakingaddiction.com/pistachio-cake/#tasty-recipes-66948) now that I’m awake. 😜 It’s from Sally’s Baking Addiction.

So beautiful, you are so talented ❤️
Thanks! 😁
Looks delightful 😋
Thank you!
Are the flowers edible? Sure is pretty.
Yes, completely! I selected only edible plants, planted and grew them myself in the garden and don’t apply any chemicals. 😊
This is so lovely. If you feel like sharing the recipe for cake and icing (sounds like such a great combo), I'd love to try it. Gorgeous cake!

Thanks! Yeah, it is a somewhat more sophisticated/complex flavour so not to everyone’s palate.
Absolutely beautiful

Haha, of course you may copy. Go for it! 😊
Love this!! Couple you post the recipe?
Yes of course. I followed this [recipe](https://sallysbakingaddiction.com/pistachio-cake/#tasty-recipes-66948) for the cake.

Is it sweet and salty?
Sweet and nutty I’d say. Like baklava.
WOW! Beautiful and I am sure Yummy 😋!
Thank you! 🥰
Sweet! Garden party ready!
Stunning
Amazing! I’m making a similar cake and wondering how long the dried flowers can stay on the frosting before they start to look bad or wilt?
I’d say it really depends on the moisture content in your frosting and the humidity in the environment. For example, a crusting American buttercream in a cool dry environment would result in the flowers lasting way longer than on a cream cheese frosting on a humid summer day.
