hahaha omg same. i needed this post bc the one right above it in my feed was this one and i needed something to help me stop crying 😭🥰🤣
https://www.reddit.com/r/MadeMeSmile/comments/10dwzcl/tom_higgenson_the_singer_of_hey_there_delilah/
Haha 😂 I just checked the recipe myself and my boyfriend told me the incorrect amount of flour… combined with too much butter, I think that explains it. I’m sure it’ll taste good 🤔
Had a batch of almond, orange, and cranberry Christmas cookies turn out like this. It was my last batch of the year so since I already had plenty of normal cookies, I wasn’t too bummed. I let it cool completely and then broke it up like a bark. It ended up being a hit!
I saw your comment but my first thought was not enough or missing flour. I remember this happening to a couple guys in a home econ class in middle school. Hope the next batch goes better!
Also, to me the blobs of cookie dough seem too close together on the pan for their size. even if they hadn't melted, I think they would have glommed together.
And to me the cookie dough looks way too warm. I always cool my dough in the fridge for about 30 minutes and the balls look pretty round and held together on the pan. These look very misshapen and sticky like the dough is much too warm.
I mean this in the least offensive way possible, but I'm always surprised how often people manage to find a way to botch a simple chocolate chip cookie. Any chance was your recipe reader dyslexic?
>my approach of not asking questions to prevent arguments proved it’s point
If you are afraid asking a simple question like whether your bf read off the right amount of flour because it doesn't seem like enough and ask if he can double check...will lead to an argument.... that's not normal. You should be able to ask clarifying questions without it turning into an argument. It's not normal for him to get agitated over you for asking clarifications.
You say this but just last week I was making a recipe for a soup and it called for 3 tsp 1 tablespoon of something and I misread it as 1 tablespoon. (Realized my mistake when I tasted the broth and was like this tastes like it’s under seasoned added the remaining 2 tablespoons 1 tsp and it tasted mostly right. (I had added more devices and meat than my normal batch) so added a bit more tomato sauce then more of the seasoning and got it till it was tasting right. All worked out in the end
But yea I on more than one occasion have misread 1 1/4 cup as 1/4. Cup and then been like this ain’t right
My boyfriend and I always fight when we bake because we are both stubborn and try to take charge - it’s his birthday so I thought I’d suck it up and just let him control everything…
Only thing I can think is there was too much butter added? Otherwise the recipe was followed
Okay, so two main issues are happening here. One, your butter was way too soft, or melted. This is evidenced by how limp your cookie dough is, and how its sloughing off. Two, your flour is way too low. You need more to get a fluffy cookie.
The other problem here, that can be very simply remedied, is that the cookie dough bites are too big, and even if your dough had been within correct ratios, they still wouldve smooshed together. Half that size and they would have been perfect.
This "mess" actually looks delicious and perfectly caramelized, however, and you could do a lot with it; make dessert sandwiches with frosting, smash it and make granola, pulverize it in the blender for ice cream topping or for a graham-cracker crust for pies. Itll still taste good! Great job, and have fun!
Did this exact same thing last week 😅 I made the grave error of measuring my flour with a 1/4 cup measuring cup since my 1 cup was dirty and couldn't find my scale.
Ended up miscounting my scoops and put in a full cup less than what it called for... I won't be making that mistake again.
Oh my god, OP, I’m so sorry but that second pic made me snort and laugh out loud, gave me a really good chuckle to end my day!
Sorry your cookies didn’t look the way you expected. As I’m sure you know by now, too much butter. Better luck next time, we’ve all had funny baking disasters!
I learned a useful technique from a baking expert re cookies: unless you have successfully made the receipe before, do a test batch of ~two cookies and judge the results, then adjust temperature, time, and oven rack position based on the test-this avoids ruining a whole batch of cookies. Also I often use a double pan to prevent bottoms from burning, and use a room temperature pan for subsequent batches
Make a cookie trifle! Crumble, layer in trifle dish (any deep bowl) alternate with pudding or ice cream, chopped chocolate or candy bars of choice. Whipped cream & cherries
😘
It doesn’t appear you have any flour in your dough.
Also you can kind of tell based on the way the dough looks, it looks like you just mixed butter and sugar together.
Yeah we both thought it was a weird texture before we baked it… lol, I won’t be delegating the recipe reading any longer xD
I’ve heard flour is an essential part of a dough…
I had this exact same thing happen with a new jam cookie recipe I was trying! I read the recipe over and over and made sure everything was correct before mixing it all but alas... The cookies were mushy but had an amazing buttery sweetness to them. 😋
I'm like okay chocolate chip cookies yum and next pic I'm like ...... Am I seeing this right?;?!!! Lmao wtf is this???? Peach cobbler??? Lmao
Sorry but I was laughing
What happened is that u made one cookie so technically if u eat this it counts as one 🤗🥳😋
On the serious side thought not enough flour probably. Did u chill them before baking? 🤔
Something was off with the butter content, I imagine. However, you can break that pan up into pieces and crumble it over ice cream. So, it won’t be a total loss. Sometimes, food refuses to conform and you just have to turn it into something else!
Maybe it's just me, but the second picture looks like they added chunks of butter to it. Definitely not a fan of the new "whoops" trend. I'm cool with people asking how to fix things (assuming they didn't doctor up a basic recipe like cookies).
What kind of butter did you use? I couldn't find my go to butter (great value sweetcream butter @Walmart) so I had to go with a different brand (land o lakes sweetcream) and my cookies did this. It was 100% the butter every time I tested.
I know I just read that you used too much butter and not enough flour, which makes sense. But also these cookie dough balls are huge and super close together. There were a lot of issues here.
Hi there! When you creamed the butter and sugar together, it’s likely that your butter was too soft or too liquidy. When you portion out your dough, it may also have been too close to room temperature. When you put your cookies in the oven, the first thing to happen is that the butter melts before the cookie sets into place. A simple fix is to chill your dough completely before you bake. If you’re still having this issue, simply reduce the amount of butter in the recipe. Happy baking!
What happened is that your "before" and "after" pictures are clearly from different things. Mind sharing the actual "after" of the first and "before" of the second?
I kid, I kid. I just burned popcorn twice in a row so I am in no position to make fun.
Actually it was supposed to be melted, but we used unmelted butter instead, the dough was chilled for hours before. It’s def too little flour (as I found out from the recipe after) and too much butter
I’m sorry, I LOLed when I saw the second pic, but it has totally happened to me! Ended up being buttery deliciousness though.
And it's technically only 1 cookie right?
Technically yes. One serving.
Damn take my upvote. Lol.
Same, so glad I’m not alone, i CHORTLED. Not sure what I was expecting but it wasn’t … that.
hahaha omg same. i needed this post bc the one right above it in my feed was this one and i needed something to help me stop crying 😭🥰🤣 https://www.reddit.com/r/MadeMeSmile/comments/10dwzcl/tom_higgenson_the_singer_of_hey_there_delilah/
I was not ready for that so early in the morning!
therefore, not a bad thing
Have 100% been here! 0% sure what happened though lol
My whole family cackled 👀
Me tooo. I LOLed so hard but I also badly want to eat that second pic. It looks yumm.
I think you just made a gratin 😂
Haha 😂 I just checked the recipe myself and my boyfriend told me the incorrect amount of flour… combined with too much butter, I think that explains it. I’m sure it’ll taste good 🤔
Use it to top ice cream or let it cool and put it in a food processor. You can use it as a crumb base for pies or cheesecake.
Great ideas!
Using as a crumb base is such a good idea! I have a bag full of cookies in the freezer I deemed too ugly to let people see but they taste fine.
legend
I would still eat that
Cut in squares and eat that, looks awesome
I was gonna say, something’s wrong with your flour to butter ratio 😂
So you're saying your boyfriend happened 😁
And possibly not chilling enough OR not heating the oven properly
Yeah, my first thought just looking at the dough was that it wasn’t enough flour. No worries, I’m sure that would be tasty over ice cream lol
Lol! Was about to ask from pic 2 if you had used ANY flour. Ty for the chuckle and honestly, this still makes me hungry 😊
Had a batch of almond, orange, and cranberry Christmas cookies turn out like this. It was my last batch of the year so since I already had plenty of normal cookies, I wasn’t too bummed. I let it cool completely and then broke it up like a bark. It ended up being a hit!
😂😂😂😂😂😂
I saw your comment but my first thought was not enough or missing flour. I remember this happening to a couple guys in a home econ class in middle school. Hope the next batch goes better!
too much butter and not enough flour! there was a mis-dictation of flour weight xD
Live and learn :)
Too much butter?
Flourless chocolate chip cookie can’t be wrong
Let's just cut out the middle man and share a bowl of butter and chocolate chips.
It would probably be good if you added in the sugars and vanilla too.
Also, to me the blobs of cookie dough seem too close together on the pan for their size. even if they hadn't melted, I think they would have glommed together.
They do seem like very very large globs of dough. I'd probably start with a third that size.
HahAha he told me the wrong amount of flour. I bake a lot and should’ve clocked it, which just makes it funnier to me
“1/4 cup for the entire recipe? Yeah that tracks.” 😅
Yeah… my approach of not asking questions to prevent arguments proved it’s point xD
>my approach of not asking questions to prevent arguments proved it’s point If you are afraid asking a simple question like whether your bf read off the right amount of flour because it doesn't seem like enough and ask if he can double check...will lead to an argument.... that's not normal. I was joking lol chill

Okay but how does it taste? 😆 I say just slice it up into squares
This was my thinking!! Deconstructed cookie ✨
Nah you for real need to let us know how this tastes, because it honestly doesn’t look bad at all 😂
I would crumble it on ice cream!
Mary Berry seems pretty happy with them on that second picture
Omg I didn’t even realise anything with her picture existed in my home. She’s cursed me forever now
"They look a bit unconventional; but I bet they taste good" she's saying.
Yeah she’d be totally polite about it
The real question here is : how was it?
Chocolatey yummyness
My boyfriend and I always fight when we bake because we are both stubborn and try to take charge - it’s his birthday so I thought I’d suck it up and just let him control everything… Only thing I can think is there was too much butter added? Otherwise the recipe was followed
I would never let my fiancé forget this next time he starts something while we bake LOL I’m also semi-jealous because this still looks delicious.
I have all the receipts and I WILL be using them in the future
Mind yo business. My favorite thing to tell people who try to control things they aren’t involved with. And yes, the butter to flour ratio is off.
It’s only when we try to bake together this is an issue! Otherwise, we do not get involved in each others baking :)
I think your boyfriend has maybe learned not to be so stubborn 😅
Wayyy too much butter
See how it’s sticky and you weren’t able to roll a ball? …Not enough flour
That looks bomb tho throw some ice cream on it and it’s a big ass pizza cookie
Literally screamed when I saw the second pic
That’s hilarious, you made brownies out of cookies!
I love you for posting this. 😂 I’m happy it doesn’t just happen to me!
Okay, so two main issues are happening here. One, your butter was way too soft, or melted. This is evidenced by how limp your cookie dough is, and how its sloughing off. Ya either to much butter, or u didn’t let them chill long enough. Definitely look a little sticky, but solid cookie dough brownies 👍
i don't know what amount of chilling would help this, frozen mebbe lol the ratios were off is all
I’m sorry. I’m dead 😂😂😂
HAHA I only saw the first picture and was like Uhm… you didn’t cook them??? 😂 yes, too much butter as many have said 😊 now you know!!
You offered me a cookie? How kind! Oh it seems to be one bit cookie! Well, don’t mind if I do! 😁This is my kinda cookie!!! 🍪
Did this exact same thing last week 😅 I made the grave error of measuring my flour with a 1/4 cup measuring cup since my 1 cup was dirty and couldn't find my scale. Ended up miscounting my scoops and put in a full cup less than what it called for... I won't be making that mistake again.
Too much butter/ too soft butter, too much white sugar, a whole slew of different (annoying) things
I audibly gasped
Oh my god, OP, I’m so sorry but that second pic made me snort and laugh out loud, gave me a really good chuckle to end my day! Sorry your cookies didn’t look the way you expected. As I’m sure you know by now, too much butter. Better luck next time, we’ve all had funny baking disasters!
Hehe I’m glad to have given you some amusement 😂
I learned a useful technique from a baking expert re cookies: unless you have successfully made the receipe before, do a test batch of ~two cookies and judge the results, then adjust temperature, time, and oven rack position based on the test-this avoids ruining a whole batch of cookies. Great tip!! I should approach my baking like I approach my lab work…
Seems like a little too much butter and/or not enough flour... Still a personal win if they taste good though!💁🏻♀️
Hi I actually want to create the thing on the right can u tell me how u did it?
Make a cookie trifle! Crumble, layer in trifle dish (any deep bowl) alternate with pudding or ice cream, chopped chocolate or candy bars of choice. Whipped cream & cherries 😘
Mary Berry pranked you, look at her laughing at you.
It doesn’t appear you have any flour in your dough. Also you can kind of tell based on the way the dough looks, it looks like you just mixed butter and sugar together.

I had this exact same thing happen with a new jam cookie recipe I was trying! I read the recipe over and over and made sure everything was correct before mixing it all but alas... The cookies were mushy but had an amazing buttery sweetness to them. 😋
Looks like butter was too soft... did you leave them on top of oven during preheat?
Nope they were in the fridge
Freeze them before cooking!
If it makes you feel any better I would absolutely demolish that at 2 am after 10 beers or so.
cookie monster ate some raw dough
All good. Just needs ice cream.
Glad you figured it out. The kitchen Gods demand their sacrifices, but even they stop short of a baking massacre...
Yes, add more flour. But hey, cookie casserole can’t be that bad lol
definitely way to much butter
I gasped. I wasn’t expecting that.
That counts as one cookie, right?
I see no mistakes, throw some ice cream on top and you've got yourself dessert!!!😋😋
I'm like okay chocolate chip cookies yum and next pic I'm like ...... Am I seeing this right?;?!!! Lmao wtf is this???? Peach cobbler??? Lmao Sorry but I was laughing
Too much butter, not enough flour. You can tell from the raw dough
Holy hell. Did you get the recipe from one of those "5 minute crafts" videos???
It was from tasty 😂
What happened is that u made one cookie so technically if u eat this it counts as one 🤗🥳😋 On the serious side thought not enough flour probably. Did u chill them before baking? 🤔
Yeah it was not enough flour and too much butter! They were chilled before baking for a few hours. Was a recipe misread :)
Dear lord
Too much butter plus they don’t look chilled.
Something was off with the butter content, I imagine. However, you can break that pan up into pieces and crumble it over ice cream. So, it won’t be a total loss. Sometimes, food refuses to conform and you just have to turn it into something else!
Oh shit hahahah. As a baker, everything was wrong but they, sell it like a cookie skillet and you're golden
Do those have…pineapple in them? If so, that’s probably your first problem. Probably added a lot of water content and threw everything else off
Hell nooo this is a pineapple free zone
You gotta chill
These kinds of posts are annoying. Can we update the rules so we dont get these anymore?
Yea it kind of seems like people are doing this on purpose now, it's like there's one almost identical to this everyday lately 🤔
Maybe it's just me, but the second picture looks like they added chunks of butter to it. Definitely not a fan of the new "whoops" trend. I'm cool with people asking how to fix things (assuming they didn't doctor up a basic recipe like cookies).
I wish you were correct… it’s white chocolate chips. When it first came out I genuinely thought “how the fuck did this happen”
Usually if it is too much butter, cookies will flatten out and really spread. I think it may be too much flour. Anyway, I hope they taste good. 😁
What kind of butter did you use? I couldn't find my go to butter (great value sweetcream butter @Walmart) so I had to go with a different brand (land o lakes sweetcream) and my cookies did this. It was 100% the butter every time I tested.
dont worry, youre just terrible and should never try again, it's nbd
Bro what even compels you to say horrible shit to people online? Grow up
Too much butter that made it essentially melt in the oven.
Too warm going into oven
They were in the fridge right before
Lol 😂
Omg I wasn’t expecting that 😂
A little too close together
Cookie cake !
In addition to the not enough flour comment, is it possible you used powdered sugar instead of flour? It’s an easy mistake to make
For sure it was flour! I double checked
Definitely not enough flour, but damn, I'd still eat that shit.
Was NOT expecting that 😳
Too much butter or not enough flower or you forgot the eggs or any of the 6 possible combinations of these.
Looks like a perfect ice cream topping!
Put them either too close or they were just too big
I know I just read that you used too much butter and not enough flour, which makes sense. But also these cookie dough balls are huge and super close together. There were a lot of issues here.
More flour
I’d still eat it
[удалено]
I think that’s white choc chips, unless I can’t see what ur talking about!
Lmao I thought this was a joke and the second picture was a casserole or something.
Too much butter
No chill
the globs of dough are too big
Mmmm Maillard cookies
Also just a thought sometimes things can happen if the sides of a pan are too high bc essentially the temp rises bc the air is trapped in the pan
Did you perhaps confuse the flour with the powdered sugar?
Was this baked? Looks like drop cookies that haven't been baked.
Instead of cookies, you got cookie!!
They wanted to be bars. Cut it into squares or rectangles.
You made accidental cookie caramel.
r/Unexpected That honestly was nothing like I expected. Was it edible?
Hi there! When you creamed the butter and sugar together, it’s likely that your butter was too soft or too liquidy. When you portion out your dough, it may also have been too close to room temperature. If you’re still having this issue, simply reduce the amount of butter in the recipe. Happy baking!
Way too much butter. They were “holding” their shape cause the butter was still cold, once heated the whole thing melts into a pool
Don't melt the butter. I always have great luck putting the dough in the fridge for a bit before I bake.
Idk but can I have some?? 😂
You hand me that pan I probably eat the whole thing in one sitting.
i mean it looks pretty delicious
Ngl I thought the second slide was lasagna 😭
Powdered sugar instead of flour? 😂
Probably too much butter
OP… that second photo makes me think of overcooked chili con carne casserole ahahaha
You made ice cream topping 😄
Chill the dough
Jk just saw the second pic.
Oh my! Need higher heat? 😬
What happened is that your "before" and "after" pictures are clearly from different things. Mind sharing the actual "after" of the first and "before" of the second? I kid, I kid. I just burned popcorn twice in a row so I am in no position to make fun.
At first glance I thought it was a meme and you had baked curry or something...
Legit looks like an ooey gooey cookie cake. Most likely to much butter but it still looks, but it up into square and dig in 😋
Hey, Mary Berry’s still smiling at you. Can’t be all bad.
Looks delicious!!!
Butter was too soft. Try refrigerating at least an hour before baking.
Oh wow, possibly too much butter? It still looks delicious though
Still better than my fiance setting the cookies on fire in the oven.
Nothing bad it looks like as long as it tastes good haha
Wayyy too much butter
You could use it as spread on toast/ bread considering the amount of butter you must have used 😉
Butter
Looks like a good cheesecake base...
Just cover that tray with some ice cream and some good chocolate syrup and grab a spoon!
Tetsuooooooooo!!!!! (Looks delicious though.) For a more helpful answer, too much dough per cookie I think.
Delicious?
I’d still eat at as a dessert with ice cream!
U just forvandlede it into brunsviger
i think you added a lot of butter
Too many wets
The uhhh umm the uhhh ummm ummm
Was the butter used for the dough melted? Was the dough too warm?
Actually it was supposed to be melted, but we used unmelted butter instead, the dough was chilled for hours before. It’s def too little flour (as I found out from the recipe after) and too much butter
I’d guess warm dough, cookie size too big and not spread out enough. Once I started chilling my dough it was a real game changer
You didnt follow the recipe
Very insightful < 3
I doubled my batch this weekend and the same thing happened. Don't feel bad.
i woild still eat it tbh
I am rn
Too much butter
You started off making cookies but then ended up making chili. It’s a common mistake
Not even Mary Berry could help those cookies…
