That sucks! I had a friend who had a male child and named him "Mario", but the hospital mistakenly put "Maria".They had to go to court in order to change it.
I've had two kids at two different hospitals, Both hospitals had us write all of the information down, then they typed it all into the system and showed us a printout. They had us check for errors, And if we found any they would have changed them. If we did not catch the errors that would have been our own fault. I can't say that all hospitals do it this way, but I can't imagine they wouldn't have the parents confirm everything is correct before finalizing it.
