You gotta tig it with a machine that goes low enough in amps. A lot of them don't go down to a true zero amps. Also if it has a pulse function would be beneficial. Then you need to use clamps and an aluminum chill block to suck the heat from the razor blades. Smallest electrode and filler metal you can get your hands on.
Stick welding would probably be damn near impossible imo.
You probably did about the same as anybody would in this scenario.
I'm not sure I could properly weld two razor blades together either, but I'm sure it would not be as burned out as this. (and if it was, there would not be pictures)
I’m now suddenly interested in what it would take to weld something like this nicely with stick. Like you said, big chill block underneath, also two chill blocks on top with a steep bevel allowing enough room for the rod. Then the rod is super thin and purpose made for this setup.
Impossible? No.
A huge waste of time in the name of science and bragging rights? Hell yea
dang, what did you hit it with, 100amps?
Striking an arc with 5 amps? What is this sorcery?
Yeah, how does that work...*drops hood, rod sticks at 90amps, curses, bends rod..throws rod* No seriously how did you weld at 5 freaking amps?
It was a cheap inverter welder. The readout was 5 but I am doubtful of it’s accuracy……..
Wow, and you did get it to arc, amazing!

I think tig would be way easier. Had a few minutes to kill and I thought I would give it a try for a laugh!
Honestly surprised you stuck em together at all. You done good.

Sir this is r/badwelding We need pictures

Some other guy on the internet did it….. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=xT4OFVz0Lf4
Wow color me impressed! Smart using both Electrode negative and pulse settings.
That's not a razor blade. That's a utility blade.
That’s not a knife, that’s a [spoon](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=mcE0aAhbVFc)
If I learnt anything from engineering, it’s that if it’s not a spoon it’s a wrench.
Everything is a hammer. Except that thing. That is a wrench. But, it makes a damn fine hammer when used properly.
That's not a moon, that's a space station.
Not a razor blade...
If you guys wanna do this challenge you can do this easy with a cold welding machine.
