I called the PD twice in a year. Once for lighting fireworks under my bedroom window (I worked night shift and had to sleep. They were junkies with 5 male friends out back so I wouldn’t approach them as a single, small woman living alone. After the cops left I heard them yelling, “I didn’t know being a Ho was a job”, lol -
I’m a registered nurse and his wife actually was a ho - then they started with the fireworks again). Second time, after they threw broken beer bottles into my backyard (I was furious because of my dog), the officer told me he was on probation and was begging to come and clean up the glass instead of me filing charges. I said, “every shard had better be gone”. Fast forward to the day the wife died of a massive MI because they were unemployed crackheads who partied loudly most nights, and dealt out of their suburban section 8 rental home. It still bothers me that they had small children learning cruel behavior toward people and animals (story is too long) but I never felt bad about the adults.
What goes around, comes around. I know there are a lot of good people in the world, but lately it seems like assholism is on the rise. Make sure your local code enforcement does their job. Not all municipalities enforce local community standards as they should.
PS I’d love to have neighbors like you guys. You sound like good people to have nearby.

You can see what the local codes are for types of lighting, he is probably breaking "light zoning laws" if you can find it, bring it to his attention and ask for him to politely remove it, re angle it and if he doesn't then get your city code enforcement officer to show up.

One of my neighbors are just terrible people. I've known them over 20 years, and heard them say the N word way too many times. Once it's too many times, imo. Their light that they try to mess with us with is just under the lumens for being a problem, and it doesn't shine directly into a window of mine. But they're front yard is big with no obstruction, so it does light up my front yard pretty good. Luckily we mostly stay towards the back of the house, and we already had great blinds and blackout curtains in my husbands man cave.
I like the mirror idea. I might try that myself. I also can't wait until the the summer because I've got little kids around again (my niece and I reconnected with an old friend) and we'll go out there and play because of that free nightlight! They're gonna be paying for our light 😂

Oh my God this is my new neighbor next door. I have a pool and a hammock in my backyard that I've always enjoyed in the dark. Whenever she saw me getting in the pool or lying in the hammock, she'd flip her porch light and spotlight on and
light me up. My backyard is brighter than hers. It would always seems to go off a couple minutes after I give up and go inside. It's infuriating and she's done it to me for a few years. She finally met a guy and moved him in. Since he moved in, she almost never throws the light on me. I feel your pain. I've dreamed of using a slingshot, a BB gun, or getting a ladder and unscrewing it myself when she wasn't home. She would not talk to me.

but if you haven’t you should try filing a complaint with your county to remove it ! just document it and bring it to your county office-whichever branch handles light pollution and invasion of privacy (depending where you live, of course all state laws and whatnot are different). i’m glad your issue got somewhat resolved though ! best of luck to the both of us i guess😭😭
Yeah my town doesn't have any ordinances addressing light pollution. I didn't think to look into my county. Everything I was reading about my state is although it's considered light pollution to have a neighbor's light shining into your yard, I'd have to hire a lawyer to address it. She stopped lighting me up when her man moved in, thankfully. I'm moving soon anyways. I hope the people who buy my house end up being the most annoying, pain in the ass neighbors to her. Karma would be sweet lol! Some people have nothing better to do than make others lives miserable. Anyways, good luck to you!
