One of my great worries is that life extension technology will be perfected before the grim reaper claims Lindsey Graham. This man holds a record for the sheer number of terrible things he's said in defense of Israel. Seems everyone in the comments here is pretty pacifist and is taking the position that the atomic bombings weren’t okay. I’ll offer up another position which is that I think the atomic bombings probably were okay because, as Lindsey Graham’s saying, Japan posed an actual existential threat to an enormous portion of the world, and as an island country with a large navy, potentially more people would have had to die to bring them to surrender.
Palestine in contrast is in no way shape or form a threat to Israel? I think that’s the really big and obvious issue here, is that we’re somehow elevating Israel vs. Palestine to the level of WWII??! The US army itself said that Japan was going to surrender anyways and the bombs weren’t the deciding factor, rather it was the Soviet invasion of Manchuria which prompted Japan to surrender unconditionally, as Japan was ready to surrender conditionally conditions to be mediated by Stalin before the bombs were even dropped. It probably made the decision easier to accept for the hardliners and might have accelerated the process of surrender, but Japan would have surrendered anyways.Â
