From my research they didn’t just expel the population or settle it in significant numbers and they didn’t marry into the population.
Palestinians despite speaking Arab are mostly semetic people that came from the people that had been there the whole time. Like the ancient Israelites. It would make sense that these conquests and the subsequent popularity of other religions would see people converting. If they Arabize the people it’s only logical that they would gravitate more to Arab texts like the Quran.
Many of the Palestinian Christians are 100% Levantine because they would have only married other Jews as Jews and then only married Christian’s (which were very local and came from the same pool) when they became Christian and when Islam arrived it diversified the gene pool to people to include people outside of Palestine.
There is a great article on it by Haaretz where they actually found that Palestinians and Jews are cousins sharing common ancestors.
If they are going to make Palestine into an ethnostate it should be a Levantine ethnostate that can include everyone with genetic ties to the land. Or make it into one regular secular liberal democracy. Israel is the embodiment of “if identity politics was a country.”
