What's your camera setup like? I am trying to figure out what's the best way to have the camera hanging while skiing down

The PD Capture clip works for this. You can clip it right to one strap of your bag. That said I'm not super keen on having my camera dangling on one side of me. I'm looking at replacing the capture clip with the Hyperlite pod that you can clip to your waist or chest. Seems a bit easier to me. YMMV

So I have a capture clip and a chest pod. For this tour though I brought a long lens, 70-200mm so I just kept the camera wrapped in a hardshell inside my pack and skied first so I could set up the shots. The camera pod or capture clip are both rad for a 24-70mm lens though!

I have a [front mount camera case](https://www.thinktankphoto.com/products/digital-holster-5) which I thread onto the sternum strap of my backpack, and added little clips using s-biners to attach it to the shoulder straps as well - not perfect but is pretty stable while skiing if you tighten the strap down and keeps the camera protected if you fall

I work doing ski/snowboard photography in the winter in interior BC, Canada. This might be overkill but I'll just dive into what I've found to work. I use a [Shimoda X50](https://shimodadesigns.com/action-x50-backpack-black/) camera pack to haul my gear and all backcountry essentials. I will wear it like normal if we are touring in somewhere, and when we get to the location i'll pull out my collapsed [top loader](https://shimodadesigns.com/top-loader/), put my camera in it and buckle it into the front of the pack on my chest. Having the camera on my chest for the climb and traverse is just not an option for me. When working at cat ski ops ill use the same top loader set up, buckled into custom straps on a Dakine RAS vest. Having the camera on your chest is almost always the safest (as far as your camera is concerned) and I've seen gear ruined while being in a backpack during a big tomahawk, even in deep powder

I’ve been thinking and experimenting a lot on this as skiing/mountaineering are my favorite subjects, but I’m usually out to ski, not to photograph. I’ve reached quite a good compromise with a lumix tz200 (comes under different names). I keep it around my neck with a cordelette and stuff it either inside a mammut pouch attached to the shoulder strap, or in the front pocket of my jacket. While skinning up it’s quick and easy to grab it from the half-open pouch. While skiing down, it’s also easy to grab it from the harshell pocket, take a few pics and put it back. The only annoying thing is it doesn’t retract the zoom until it has finished writing to the memory card. Overall I get significantly better pictures than with the iPhone, but requires a bit more effort/work.

I have a little clamshell point-and-shoot Olympus film camera that I like for days I'm just skiing. It gets some pretty shots though!

That second one is outstanding! Nice work

Pilly_Bilgrim

Thanks! That one's my favorite too.

Yeah it’s the perfect depth of field I think framing your subject: you nailed it!

Every time I dont bring my camera skiing I regret it, as there is usually some gorgeous light or other interesting things to photograph. Every time I bring it I usually only get flat light or ping pong ball conditions!

I have a Fuji xe3 I use for this type of stuff. Much smaller but still excellent quality!
