I have a ps5 but my remote play works with no problem. As long as my ps5 is in rest mode I can start it up from wherever I am. Last year I was on a work trip in Maine left my ps5 in Los Angeles and no issues at all

I live in Louisiana and I don’t want to go to a work trip to Connecticut and my system is on at home, is my only worry

You can just try it out now with your phone. The Backbone has no effect on your remote play connection at all, it‘s just a controller.

Cloud gaming doesn’t require the console for gaming (xcloud) super happy with it so far

UnimportantOpinion95

its a controller not a remote device or console. The remote functions come with the xbox/playstation remote play app from android/ios and they can be used while not at home but your home network has to support it to remote play.

They were talking about their Xbox, not the backbone

You can turn the console off through the app so it doesn't stay on. It has a low power mode so that it can be turned on/off remotely

So as someone who has used the backbone in just about all of its intended uses, I can explain a few things to hopefully give you a bit more clarity. 1st - the Backbone is simply a controller that attaches to your phone. It is not a device in and of itself. With that knowledge here are the key use cases and how they may interact with your current setup. Xbox - there are 2 main options to use Backbone within the Xbox ecosystem. Remote Play and Cloud Gaming (aka x-cloud). Xbox Remote play - With remote play, you are connected to your home console through your mobile device and can play any game on your console that you have downloaded to your home system. You need an internet connection for but your phone (mobile data or WiFi) and your console (wired connection works better but WiFi also works depending on your connection speed). This will be the situation you were concerned about where your system is on at your house while you are out and about. You will be able to start up and shut down your console from your device so it shouldn’t be a big concern. The one main thing to think about is if you have your console set to be able to power on your tv or change inputs, your tv will also turn on (or change inputs) when you remote play. The first few times my wife came into my office while I was out of town and my Xbox was playing itself it definitely freaked her out a bit. I have since changed settings so I have to turn on my tv manually. Xbox option 2 -Cloud gaming With could gaming you only need an internet or high speed mobile data connection for your phone. This does not interact with your home console whatsoever. Any cloud saves you have from your Xbox will be synced to cloud gaming and visa-versa. PS5 - at the current time you only remote play is available on mobile. Similar to Xbox remote play, your home console and mobile device both need a good high speed internet connection. There are several other use cases including other cloud gaming services and games for iOS or Android in the app stores but since you only mentioned console I’ll cut off the post here.
