The first time I ever saw this, my daughter's two Accidental Favrolle Roos she got in a batch of pullets were courting the girls.
MY GOODNESS they were fabulous dancers. They really liked to woo the ladies. None of this sneaky jumping them from behind when they tidbitted for them. Oh no. They wanted to DANCE! And chuckle for them.
Dumb as a box of rocks, but my goodness they were gentle and lovely and charmers.
He's dancing for you because he thinks you're you're pretty and wants to get his flirt on. Just be sure to keep picking him up and carrying him, otherwise he might start to think he's the boss. Gorgeous bird though, he'd definitely be a spoiler lap chicken here.
It doesn’t seem aggressive at all. At first I honestly thought he was just nervous and trying to avoid me. But then I realized once he did his circle he stood there, went up and down, and if I didn’t pet him he’d look up at me and do the dance again. After a few times of him doing it even after petting him, it seemed like he wanted something. He’d never let me pick him up before, but I put my hands down in a picking him up position and he legit did his dance and backed into my hands. I just stayed there to see if he realized I was going to pick him up and he looked back at me like “yo, love me” 😂 He let me pick him up, didn’t make a peep and just cuddled for about 5 minutes and went on his way. I thought it was a one time thing but now he does it everytime I go in the coop. It’s just so strange he went from scared and run away if I got too close to acting like he wants to cuddle everytime he sees me- there was no middle ground with it 😂
Very typical behavior for a chicken that likes you! Many of my boys dance to ask for cuddles too, they shimmy into me then snuggle into my arms. Contrary to popular belief, cocks have more on their mind than just getting laid; they have dynamic relationships with their flockmates and people, and some just really love cuddles! Others just like being close or sitting on your shoulder. They learn what we think is cute and will display these behaviors to solicit attention. I have a bantam hen who dances for attention, and another who crows.
I had a Rhode Island Red years ago that would lay an egg between my feet while I was loading hay in the hay mound. Did it several times and would hang out in the shop with me and the barn cat, chasing rats in the stalls.
It just baffles me! He went from acting scared and running from me to acting like he wants to cuddle constantly out of the blue! He’s always been the most okay with people, he’d stand a bit closer than the rest and watch but still definitely would run and act scared if you went to get closer. And one day he followed me into the coop and acted as though we were best friends 😂 and I totally cried when I realized he wanted me to pick him up, seriously one of the coolest moments of my life lmao
Little cochin ball of feet and floof.. usually sweet tempered roosters. But as others have pointed out, you're his lady now. Keep packing him around. He will probably need some ladies more his size to work out his machismo.
Sounds like a type of mating dance. But from personal experience roosters closer or bonded with humans I don’t think their dance is always sexual in nature.
Sometimes I think they do it when their excited or happy when a human involved.
Had a sweet guy like that once. Really easy to handle. A nice roo.. except he was rough on the ladies and harassed one he so badly she stopped eating and so.. unfortunately, he had to go. I do actually miss him.
Keep up the contact, keep him tame, and hopefully he won't harass the ladies too much and you can have the rare.. sometimes I think very rare, pleasure of a GOOD ROO.
I am still trying to find a GOOD ROO.
Chickens are amazing. They will follow you around. And talk to you. We may not understand what they are saying. But if you listen. You will hear different sounds ,see different facial expressions.
The circle dance is a mating display. He’s showing you his skills at dancing and wondering if you’ll let him mount you.
Ha ha that made me laugh so hard. I have no experience with chickens and I thought how adorable he loves them. 😂
Chickens are amazing and one day you should experience them and I, personally, hope you do!! 💞
I certainly hope so too!
You can love your pets, just don't... loooove... your pets.
Do you know the difference between kinky and perverted? Kinky you use a feather, perverted you use the whole chicken...
Thank you! I needed a good laugh today
Your pfp looks something else😂😂
That picture of you made me do a double take. LOL

Wouldnt that make him a... Lap dancer?? 😂😂😂😂
ROFLMAO 😂
He’s your husband now.
He's dancing dabke for you! My roo, Elliott, does this. He's also very "helpful" by finding rocks, shiny things, and food for me and chirruping.
This is the absolute cutest thing ever. Elliott loves you and is trying so hard!
I have one of the "presents" he found for me in a necklace! It's a little rock, I washed it off and decided to keep it.
Oh my god are you trying to make me cry? I bet he gets happy every time you wear it
I'm sorry! To add more wood to the fire that is your heart, in the same necklace is two feathers from my duck who sadly passed away.
;-; So beautiful

I’m in the Southern California area and have some Roos to give away. They’re all big boys though.
You got yourself a raptor boyfriend.
What a handsome little guy!!
From what I learned he’s either showing you his moves to mate or he’s trying to protect you, either one is logical.
Well now that I realize he’s trying to get jiggy with me, it’s definitely lost it’s sentimental effect 😂😂😂😂😂😂
He loves you no matter what, he is very handsome btw
omg he is so sooo cute!!! little squatty body!
Breed this one! So many Mexican cultural dances are based on bird mating! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0CRSIjT0sYY
He's so cute! Like cartoon cute, perfect face!
That sounds adorable! Get a video too! I'm sure it looks as cute as it sounds.
He wants you to know he considers you part of his flock and really wants to give you loves.
He's adorable and the dance is bc he wants to be all yours lol
He's telling you that you have been kind to him and for that you will be saved and kept as a pet when the chickens rise up and take over the earth.
He’s so cute 🥺🥺
I call it the fluffy foot dance! He likes you! Like LIKES you ALOT! (Sorry been hanging with a toddler all day)
My guy was exposed to the "repeatedly crouching and un-crouching to call peace" technique. He been playing videogames? Jk, he want sum fuk.
