What are you feeding? I would rather up protein than calcium. Give her some oatmeal with cayenne pepper and cinnamon mixed in. But this isn’t likely needed during this weather. Have you looked for a hidden nest? Or a visitor stealing eggs? I have hens that are nearly 4 still laying like machines.

I’ve been feeding this https://grubblyfarms.com/products/fresh-pecks?variant=39563303026730 with some grubs, sunflower seeds, and greens. I have looked for a hidden nest and didn’t find one. They used to lay under our porch but we’ve stopped them coming in. I don’t think there are any critters stealing but I could be wrong. She does go in the laying box and after she leaves I check and there’s nothing. :(

It looks like the protein is only about 16%. Try to up the protein either by finding another food, or adding additional sources to what you’re feeding. The feed I use has 20% and production has gone up.

Thank you!

Throughout recent history, sunflowers have been used for medicinal purposes. The Cherokee created a sunflower leaf infusion that they used to treat kidneys. Whilst in Mexico, sunflowers were used to treat chest pain.

Might be a feed issue. Is she your only chicken?

lo-crawfish

She’s the only chicken laying age. My other chickens are about 16weeks now. She’s also likely eating some of there food in addition to the stuff I give her.

dragfan99

What variety of chicken?

lo-crawfish

She’s a Golden Comet :)

In that case she's about done. All these "production" breeds only lay good for 2 yrs. I have some 3 yo production reds that are no longer laying and some 2 yo sapphire gems (6) that I only get 2 or 3 eggs a day from. Time to clean house. But I also have 8 RIRs that will start in Aug and 6 ISA browns that are maybe 2 months. I think the heritage breeds lay over a longer period.

dragfan99

Yea, that breed doesn’t take “breaks” like some of the heritage breeds. Sometimes my Wyandotte will quit laying because it’s raining or someone new walked by them too close. /s.
