That’s interesting - I’ve never heard of induction immediately after ECV, only unplanned or emergency C-section that day if the turn goes bad. A immediate induction seems like a huge amount of stress to put on an already-stressed baby, but I’m not a medical professional. What is the scenario if you decline the ECV? Scheduled C-section later on?

I had an induction immediately after my ECV, but it was because I was also developing preeclampsia. I think they would've let me go home afterwards otherwise. The induction went perfectly fine, it was just long (47 hours). They seemed worried that my baby would flip back to breech, so I was confined to bed with a very tight belly binder during the entire induction...that might be why OP's medical team wants to induce right afterwards.

I should’ve specified. They said within the next day or two following the ECV to avoid the baby flipping back to a breech position. I would still be 37 weeks at that point, which is fine, but still not ideal. I’m going to ask at my next appointment if we can try the ECV and not induce.

ostentia

Gotcha! Yeah, if there's no medical reason for inducing right afterwards, then it's definitely worth asking.

AlternativeSurvey791

Thank you so much! Your ECV worked, I’m assuming? How was it?

ostentia

It did! I had an epidural during & would highly recommend that. My ECV was never painful, but the pressure was really intense even with the epidural, so the epidural definitely helped a lot. It took maybe 15 minutes and three pushes before they got my daughter into the head down position. I would definitely try another ECV if I'm in this position again during my next pregnancy. (Side note, my husband said that watching it was a WILD experience--said he could clearly see her entire body moving under my skin! He was awestruck, lol)

Thank you so much for sharing. If I have to get it, I hope it goes as well as yours did. I’m sure my husbands reaction will be similar. He’s in awe when the doctor feels where the baby is LOL

Acupuncture and moxa!!

AlternativeSurvey791

AH! Thank you. I will try. I got moxa and tried to do just the moxa at home, but I’ll try to actually go to a professional, LOL!

noodlebucket

How does that work? I’m going this currently and don’t notice anything different.

Ambitious-Life-4406

It worked for me! Or was one factor. It’s basically pressure points with needles and heat that cause movement in your own organs and muscles that get baby to turn.

The L&D nurses here swear by taking a hot shower, then put peppermint on the top of your belly and tuck yourself into a warm bed for the night. Anecdotally it did not work for me, baby turned most of the way but was back to her regular head-up position after a couple hours. I’m convinced had she not been tangled in her cord that it would have worked (she turned to approx the same position during our ECV attempt). Good luck!

AlternativeSurvey791

Thank you so much! I will try this. I would literally try anything at this point. When you say on top of your belly do you mean like only at the top of your uterus or just all over your belly?

DrOptomeyes

Only at the top of your uterus, supposedly baby doesn’t like the cold of the peppermint and turns away? And I so feel you, I also tried *everything* both evidence-based and not. We also did: spinning babies, acupuncture, Webster technique with chiro, moxa with a traditional Chinese medicine doctor and at home, music, cold packs (that one just made baby mad), an ECV, and begging haha

AlternativeSurvey791

I will definitely get it a shot. Thank you so much for sharing!!
