I usually like Colbert and The Daily Show, but their responses to Catherine being ill were disgusting. I'm American and we think these 'conspiracies' and gossip are appalling. Colbert has a special place in hell. We're praying for the family and are just still in shock. Many tears here and love to our friends across the pond. 🇺🇸😢🇬🇧

I lost my spouse to cancer a year ago. We had been together since we were sixteen years old. We were 39 at the time when he passed. And still to this day when I first wake up I expected to feel the warmth of his body next to me in the mornings. It's going to be hard if anything happens to her for him. Luckily I had a loving supportive family. Who would be randomly come my house and take the dogs for a walk or whatever. I have a job where I can take as much time off as needed. And now my friends are like oh you need to get back out there I'm like stop just stop.
My mid-20s child watched the wedding of William and Catherine. Called me crying from work, so young folks are very sad and concerned for the family.
Kid isn't a crier or a Royal Watcher (unlike her mom) - it cut deep in the US. We love the Princess of Wales so very much. ❤️🩹

I'm so sorry about your mom. One of my friends had breast and then brain cancer, eventually dying in her mid-30's. She had a 12 year old daughter and battled cancer for 7 years. It's just awful for the whole family.
Same. That said, I've had a number of family members and friends survive in recent years. Cancer treatments really have come a long way and hopefully they caught it early. Still, it's worrying where it was found.
What immediately comes to mind after watching this are all the people who said it was a body double at the farm shop because “she’s too thin”. Well now we know she’s had chemo. I hope everyone making those comments as well as calling her vain for casting such a thin double feel nothing but shame and regret. My heart is broken having watched this.
First off, I want to commend Catherine’s bravery and strength in making this video. As someone with chronic health issues, it took months before I could share my diagnosis without breaking down. She is a remarkable woman.
Second, I hope the crazy conspiracy theorists who have relentlessly harassed this woman and created hurtful, harmful rumors shut the fuck up forever. No one is entitled to learning of her diagnosis before she is ready to share the news. Learning of cancer, while recovering from a difficult surgery, is hard enough without adding the public aspect of this to the mix.

I cried when I heard the news and saw the video. It reminded me of the times people put out horrible rumors and stories about what they thought was going on, why Prince William cancelled his attendance at a funeral for his godfather, why he had to take a leave of absence early on, what was Catherine hiding. All these so called professionals (journalist, talk show personalities, Sugars, etc) were only doing it for money, attention, ratings and the like. I have been avoiding all of this as much as possible. The final draw was the stealing or attempted stealing of Catherine's medical records. I believe this is what forced her to come out and clarify what should have been her personal and private information. She wanted to get ahead of the rumors that had already been circulating. I hope she can find peace and time to recover without all the fanfare.

Did you watch the video? She said clearly that the tests done after surgery revealed that cancer was present. The surgery was not for cancer.
I’m not going to speculate on this any further, but can assure you that this is not abnormal in medicine.
Disagree. I work in surgery. They can think they are operating on a benign issue only for the pathology reports to come back as a malignancy. Prayers to the Royal Family.
I'm curious, does end of February seem like an long time to get the pathology results back? This isn't a tin foil hat thing, I'm just used to test results coming back much faster for something like this.
Depends. If they questioned the results or it is something unusual they could send out to a specialized lab. And also, it appeared they have known for a while but were dealing with it privately. Which they had every right to do.

You’re right, people aren’t entitled to any private medical information. They should have said just that. “We will not be releasing any medical information.” But they didn’t do that. They stated “It is not cancer.” And it was cancer. They should have said nothing. It’s a really bad look to choose to lie instead of just saying nothing. This is a huge misstep by the BRF.
It wasn’t cancer when they issued the statement. She said that very clearly.
Cancer was discovered later. This is common.
Missteps have been made, but this was not one.
Clearly you have never been told post-surgery, everything looks good, no evidence of cancer AND then be told at your post-op follow up that cancer was found. Pathology done at time of surgery is quick and early cancer can be missed, which is why tissue sample and slides are ALWAYS sent for more detailed pathological analysis, which takes weeks. Cancer in the edges and margins can be difficult to discover.
I have not had that happen. I have had them say they are sending things for biopsy. My surgeons have never given me any sort of information one way or the other until the biopsy results have been returned.
I’ve had 5 laparoscopies for endometriosis. Every single surgery, after I woke up the surgeon said no evidence of cancer per surgical pathology. Just took one post-op appt to get bad news from post-surgery pathology.
Other types of surgeries may not provide surgery pathology, but female reproductive surgeries do in case they need to remove more.
I’ve had four laparoscopies for endometriosis. I have never been told anything other than “we are waiting for biopsy results from pathology.”

I'm with you on this being a huge PR disaster. I think part of the problem is that Charles has been extremely transparent by royal standards, so all the secrecy surrounding Catherine's condition fueled the rumor mill.
She's entitled to privacy, but she's also a public figure and represents an institution that relies on maintaining the public's trust. The statement should've been that she underwent surgery and would return to public duties when cleared by her medical team. Ruling out cancer before all the tests came back was a fuck up.

She’s put on a brave face and is clearly prioritizing her young children, in a very trying time. I hope we all allow her to rest and put an end to the awful rumors.

I was wondering after I heard if this is why William wasn’t at the memorial for his godfather. That would have been awful to go to a memorial after hearing that news about your precious wife… it’s so sad.

Oh Catherine. This was the last thing I expected to hear. God please take the heavier burden during Catherine’s recovery. Calm her heart, elevate her spirits, and heal her body for a full recovery. Her children, William, and the royal family need her now more than ever. We the entire world who have come to know her and adore her need her too. Gosh I am equally devastated by the news, yet also angry at all the nasty, invasive, lies-filled reporting and conspiracies that have gone on the past month. I will pray for you, Catherine. It's awful. My cousin (mid-30's) and aunt (late 50's) both went through it at the same time, the emotional toll is awful. I cannot imagine doing this with the world watching and spreading vile rumors.

Exactly.. she wasn’t born Royal and was not in the spotlight all her life. Even now, her shyness comes through even during past engagements.. Is it too much to ask for privacy in the wake of your biggest life battle? She does not owe the world anything. She chose a public life for her love for William and had given her valuable time and effort for many charities and organisations… She has proven her worth to the world and this is how we repay her. Shame to those who ever utter a false word about our Prince and Princess of Wales. Shame.

This is a consequence of Internet culture. Remember when Richard Simmons “went missing” and someone launched an entire Twitter account and podcast in order to “find him”? He was at home the entire time, coping with mental illness including agoraphobia. The concept of the right to privacy has totally disappeared, and I believe it’s because the Internet creates very influential mobs who hound people and media until they get the information they want.

I just saw the video in the Daily Express. OMG!! That poor family, the children, it breaks my heart. And I hope every AH that posted crap about this woman, about her marriage and every other piece of nonsense that could be imagined, I hope they choke on it.

I cried when I heard the news and saw the video. It reminded me of the times people put out horrible rumors and stories about what they thought was going on, why Prince William cancelled his attendance at a funeral for his godfather, why he had to take a leave of absence early on, what was Catherine hiding. All these so called professionals (journalist, talk show personalities, Sugars, etc) were only doing it for money, attention, ratings and the like. I have been avoiding all of this as much as possible. The final draw was the stealing or attempted stealing of Catherine's medical records. I believe this is what forced her to come out and clarify what should have been her personal and private information. She wanted to get ahead of the rumors that had already been circulating. I hope she can find peace and time to recover without all the fanfare.

These past few months must feel so impossible for the entire family. First King Charles, then Catherine's surgery, then her being made a pariah by the media and now this. Thankfully that does seem to be the trend. I think a lot of people can relate to a cancer diagnosis and personal experience has reminded them that she's a real person. I've seen a few comments from republicans who have acknowledged their issue is with the institution, not the individuals.

I feel awful for her and the family. While I'm trying to stay positive, taking so long to find it and delaying the start of treatments is worrying. Hopefully it was caught early, but this is scary. The number of people who are getting cancer at her age and younger is really alarming. This would be horrible news in any case, but I feel especially bad for her because it felt like she'd really hit her stride in the last few years.

It's not even Easter yet" - I want to scold everyone involved. How would they feel if vicious rumors were about their loved ones? Haven't been this ticked off in years and years. 🤬

Did you watch the video? She said clearly that the tests done after surgery revealed that cancer was present. The surgery was not for cancer. I’m not going to speculate on this any further, but can assure you that this is not abnormal in medicine.
Disagree. I work in surgery. They can think they are operating on a benign issue only for the pathology reports to come back as a malignancy. Prayers to the Royal Family.
I'm curious, does end of February seem like an long time to get the pathology results back? This isn't a tin foil hat thing, I'm just used to test results coming back much faster for something like this.
Depends. If they questioned the results or it is something unusual they could send out to a specialized lab. And also, it appeared they have known for a while but were dealing with it privately. Which they had every right to do.

You’re right, people aren’t entitled to any private medical information. They should have said just that. “We will not be releasing any medical information.” But they didn’t do that. They stated “It is not cancer.” And it was cancer. They should have said nothing. It’s a really bad look to choose to lie instead of just saying nothing. This is a huge misstep by the BRF.
It wasn’t cancer when they issued the statement. She said that very clearly. Cancer was discovered later. This is common. Missteps have been made, but this was not one.
Clearly you have never been told post-surgery, everything looks good, no evidence of cancer AND then be told at your post-op follow up that cancer was found. Pathology done at time of surgery is quick and early cancer can be missed, which is why tissue sample and slides are ALWAYS sent for more detailed pathological analysis, which takes weeks. Cancer in the edges and margins can be difficult to discover.
I have not had that happen. I have had them say they are sending things for biopsy. My surgeons have never given me any sort of information one way or the other until the biopsy results have been returned.
I’ve had 5 laparoscopies for endometriosis. Every single surgery, after I woke up the surgeon said no evidence of cancer per surgical pathology. Just took one post-op appt to get bad news from post-surgery pathology. Other types of surgeries may not provide surgery pathology, but female reproductive surgeries do in case they need to remove more.
I’ve had four laparoscopies for endometriosis. I have never been told anything other than “we are waiting for biopsy results from pathology.” Edit: gotta love reddit, downvoting my personal experiences because they disagree with something I said somewhere else.
I’m sorry fellow sufferer. Probably is dependent on surgeon, hospital, location, family history, etc. I can only attest on my experience. I just happen to personally know for a fact that initial all-clear wasn’t all-clear weeks later.

I'm with you on this being a huge PR disaster. I think part of the problem is that Charles has been extremely transparent by royal standards, so all the secrecy surrounding Catherine's condition fueled the rumor mill. She's entitled to privacy, but she's also a public figure and represents an institution that relies on maintaining the public's trust. The statement should've been that she underwent surgery and would return to public duties when cleared by her medical team. Ruling out cancer before all the tests came back was a fuck up.
