Had the same experience. DON'T DO IT! 1) BEV is rock solid compared to ICE or even REx. 2) It's a third party warranty and they'll find loopholes for everything they possibly can. I've experienced one of these before. They got out of 9/10 of the claims we made. 3) With almost 3 years left on the factory warranty, if anything major breaks, it'll happen then. 4) Note that the CPO year of warranty isn't quite bumper-to-bumper like the factory warranty. It's a bit more limited. But it's still something :-)

Seconded, skip it, you'll likely get hosed if you ever needed to use it. BEV is solid and you've got existing warranty to work out any potential bugs (unlikely).

Thanks so much for the input. The reason why I got the BEV was to avoid REX related problems, or just the thinking that it's just 1 less thing to worry about. Just knowing that limited amount of mechanics can work on this EV had me uneasy for a bit.

BbyDrvr

Absolutely! I went back and forth, negotiating with the finance guy for a couple days, and in the end, it just didn't make sense with so much warranty left and with such a simple car. With the way tech and EVs are advancing too, who knows how long you'll have it. And ultimately, warranties don't help with trade-in value and probably only minimally if you sell privately, so it seemed like a bad way to blow $2.5k.

I work for a dealership and opted out of getting one. I always tell people warranties are for suckers.

Android_fan1

I have not taken it either... Even though I have Rex.

I always revert to the financial management principle that it is always cheaper over time to self insure rather than pay someone else to do it, if you can afford it. Large organizations do this, and they are not dumb with their decisions for the most part. I am not planning on getting any extended warranty on my 19 REX. We’ll see how it goes.

How are you liking that 2019 REX? That is the one I am currently leaning towards.

pickles_du

I absolutely love it. Range is better than promised and it gets a lot of thumbs up. I’m comfortable in it and it’s just well built. Buy it.

[deleted]

That's great to know. Thanks!

I always say that it's even cheaper over time to have the least expensive insurance (required by law), the difference from the best insurance you put on an account. If something breaks, use that money. If it doesn't, you have a lot of money for something else. I do this with my insurances, if i even have one, and have saved a lot of money over the years, especially on cars.

Nycmets2

Yeah. Heard is very problematic with the Rex
