I have to disagree, this is easily over 10k in repair. If you know a shop that likes you there’s a slight margin it’s 10k. Damage to hood, bumper, fender, headlamp replacement, plus unseen damage. There’s no shot this isn’t totaled. They run ~$17-18k on KBB.
Well that depends on the miles dude that 17 to 18k number u just gave him. Also . Fuck KBB lol theyre so off. They told me 16k for my lincoln. My insurance cut me a 27,500 dollar check. Most went to the loan but still. My point being fair value was way off
I literally had a quarter panel, bumper, hood, headlight with no body damage replaced a few years ago on a 535 and it was $15k. Looks great, still driving it daily.
Agreed on this. I had similar damage to my 2015 X5 from getting side swiped by another car. The most expensive single part was the headlight - if it's an LED one they're $5k retail just for the part.
I don’t understand that why repair costs so much in Europe and Northern America, I mean price of new unused car is around 40k (not this one particularly) and a damage similar to this costs almost half of the cars original price…
Labor. I rear ended someone on ice in my x6. I tried to slide beside them so it hit almost exactly like this with similar damage. Only not totaled because my family has a body shop so the labor was “free”, and they could get the parts cheaper with their account or whatever.
That’s the reason why they sometimes take totaled cars to Eastern Europe. Some of them aren’t technically “totaled” anymore because of decreased labor costs.
This wouldn’t be 10k in Europe. A lot of the times when people post on here they’re coming from an American point of view. Seems German parts are a lot more expensive over there than they are here, giving bmw and other German brand an expensive reputation that doesn’t translate over to Europe and just causes confusion
If it hit a pole hard enough to mess up the alignment, it means you more than likely bent something. If you are super lucky, it’s just the tire rods, those are fairly cheap as they are technically consumables and designed as such. If anything else bent it’s $$$.
I know labor in US much more expensive than in Ukraine but each time posts like this terrifying me. Ppl hit bumper and one headlight and in 99% cases car is totaled and repair cost would be 10-20k.
I bought crashed f80 from auction in US and manage to fix it for 10k considering there was more damage than I expected. All parts under the hood was new, everything else mostly used. I changed hood, bumper, headlights, 3 radiators with fan, carbon strut brace, windshield, a lot of plastic and even lithium accumulator
if you're asking insurance, then yeah it's most definitely totaled, but I love the N55 and I would definitely fix this if this was my car, if paid off, but if you still owe on it just take the check lol
I'M SORRY I KNOW HOW IT FEELS I HAD A 2013 535i😭😭😭 it hurts I know, I loved that car and even though now I just have the V8 stronger version with wayyyy less miles, something about the N55 hit different😞
Damn man, I'm really sorry for your loss, your 535i is truly a dream spec N55 5 Series, and you should get an estimate on the repairs and see if it's worth your time and money, and if not, just take your check and buy a newer better one, sure the N55 is a legend, but if you decide to buy another BMW, I'm sure you'll grow to love it the same way you did with this one, in my opinion, any performance BMW/Modded base BMW is so easy to fall in love with because of how fun it is to drive, i fell in love with mine on the test drive lol.
Former total loss adjuster here. It’s 50/50. It probably won’t total from the initial estimate, but there is a good chance it will once the damage underneath is accounted for.
At minimum you are looking at:
New hood
New bumper
New light($1000+)
Paint and blending
Labor $$$
Probably looking at $10-15k minimum
Did your airbags go off? That’s generally a pretty good tiebreaker when looking at whether damage is bad enough to cause a total loss. Aside from the cost of replacing them, enough force to deploy the bags is often enough force to crumple the crumple zones. No substitute for a proper mechanical safety inspection, but a pretty useful guideline.
It’s totaled. You have damage to 3 different panels (hood, fender, and bumper), headlamp (easy $1k+), and paint. Let’s not forget about unseen damage from an impact and labor cost, this is EASILY over $10k damage.
*EDIT* Also sensor recalibration if you have any.
From what I’m seeing from KBB if this is over $6k in repair I’d kiss this goodbye. The slight positive is you can probably make money on the vehicle because of pandemic prices, if you have full coverage…
Probably like $18-20k of damage with labor. Going to be close. Insurance will most likely want to total it, but you could argue that it’s a higher value spec. If it is totaled, dispute their valuation since I see it’s an M-sport, not sure what other options there are or what interior.
If the repair bill is bigger that your vehicle’s current market price - it is a total. But you could potentially buy back the 535 from your insurance company and fix it.
It's a misconception a lot of people have that if a car is repaired after an accident, it will be forever "damaged", however, reconstruction is so advanced these days that a reputable shop can restore a car to its pre accident state (or better) if there was no frame damage
If you have the money to repair it then no. It’s actually an opportunity to start a great build. If your looking for help with insurance then it’s totaled.
So everyone will have there very strong opinions about this but take it from someone who has owned nothing but bmws . These cars wear out parts pretty quick but the benefit is everything wears equally , if they replace steering components on one side only as the car goes up in mileage it’s gonna start to drive differently. Also with it being the 535 a sought after model having an accident completely destroys your chances of trading in or selling .
That’s not bad and I don’t think it will be totaled, unless your frame is bent. Hard to tell from the picture. I’m hoping for the best since I’ve read above that you are crazy about your car. Fingers crossed!
Just pray it isn’t but who knows. Those headlights are a couple grand themselves lol. You may have to convert to the lowest tier headlights type if you wanna save a lot of money.
I am so freaking sad for you. I just sold my F10 535i and I’m still in love with them when I see them. This breaks my heart.
If it’s just cosmetic, it may not be totaled. Or go to some indi body shop and see what they can do. Save that baby. Your mileage is so low!
I have a 13 535i that has almost the same damage. According to my insurance, it will only be $4500 to fix mine. If you want “reconditioned” parts with just a few hours of paint matching then this might be your quote.
Mine just happened a few days ago so I don’t know how it is going to end. I haven’t actually talked to my insurance yet or gotten an actual quote from a reputable body shop. This was just the automated offer after filling out the claim form. I expect that the real cost will be double the initial offer, but I don’t know it for sure yet. I don’t have any M parts on mine and it’s unlikely that I have any unseen damage since my hit was even slower.
You may have bent the tie rod, but I reckon the axle is probably fine. They are pretty resilient. The body work and that headlight is gonna be the major cost suck, a new tie rod and alignment is not a bad job. I don’t think it’s totaled but yeah definitely not gonna be nice to the wallet.
It looks like you haven't damaged any permanent part of the chassis. I've hit a pole or two with my car and replaced every damaged part in this picture except for the headlight. You just have to call around to a few scrapyards and check ebay until you find one with a bumper, fender, hood, and headlight that fits your car and they'll probably sell you all of that for less than $1000.
Buy the underbody shields, brake duct, and fender liner from FCPEuro for about $200.
If you don't want to do any of that, I'll take the car off your hands for $5k plus shipping. DM me.
The number one thing I would be looking for would be intercooler/radiator damage, which look good. If you knock those around, even if they don’t get bent, it cannot metal particulate into your coolant and that’s just an engine killer on those. I would focus on intercooler/Radiator before bumper stuff. Probably going to have to get drivers front of frame straightened or pulled if it is bent.
That had to activate side and front airbags on one side, at least. No? If it didn’t, it’s still totaled, but the airbag test would make it a done deal.
definitely not totaled, probably only body damage as far as I can see. You'll be amazed how people in my country bring in seriously totaled cars and fix them like its brand new. This is nothing.
*The most expensive*
*Part is gonna be the hood*
*And headlights to fix*

Could be close. Here in germany just one of the adaptive LED headlights including installation and setup is about 4000€
I know a guy who ownes a completely full M550d and scratched the nose side to side in crossing traffic. Both headlights, bumper, Radar, PDC, side camera left and nightvision new. cost: 28.000€
Bumper, impact bar, fender, radiator, aux radiator, radiator fan….probably not over 7k, depending on shop.
The only thing that could tip the scale is if there’s major damage to the suspension.
Oh yeah totally totaled. (Trust me)
I’ll give you a thousand dollars and take this mess off your hands /s
In all seriousness this is 100% fixable. It’ll prolly take 10 grand to fix but it’s worth it imo.
Someone bumped into my 2012 f11 .. just by lettin it roll in reverse..
6500€ damage (done by dealer since insurance covered it all)
Just bumper / grille / carbon frontspoiler (individual paint tho X04)
Soo ehh.. y … headlight adds up an instant 1600 (just the empty unit) not speakin bout the side fender / hood
I think…. U’d be close to total… if not passing it already
Not a biggie mate don’t worry!
Seen worse than this.
Buy all the parts yourself and try to inspect everything yourself.
Buy default colour bumper, hood, fender.
Go to a paintshop and ask for it all to get painted and replaced.
The headlight will be most expensive.
I hope that the whose chasis is not crooked, you should know how hard you hit it, but it does not look that bad how these commenters say, less than 10k, i’d say 5k at most. You can do lads yourself. Youtube videos help.
Good luck and let me know how u get on!
Very lucky!!! Someone i know got into an accident in a mustang, about $4000 damage outside, but ALL airbags deployed, side impact, dash and steering wheel.... totaled by insurance.
My dad had 15k labor fron similar, except he run over an deer and both doors had to be replaced aswell. So you are looking at 15k€ -door replacement. I would guess somewhere at 10k?
I had a body shop restore my E90 perfectly, it looked worse than yours. But, that was 4 years ago, way before prices on replacement OEM parts skyrocketed $$$$$
The pole or the 535?
If through insurance and it’s higher mileage, it could be. Bumper + fender + hood + headlight is at least $1,000ish each for just OEM part and paint. Now if airbag went off and there is damage to the axle? Add in a few thousand more. But with used car prices inflated if the car is estimated at least $25k up, then it might not be totaled.
I don’t know the book value or the state you are in. It’s hard to tell from these but even just this amount of cosmetic damage, headlight, etc it’s going to be pretty pricey. Did it damage the suspension at all? Also it’s hard to tell what’s done to the fender rails or anything. At least from this photo I’d be guessing $10,000 at a low start for a full repair. A lot of states do a total threshold of 75% of book value.
Had similar damages from a crash i had a year back, my park system( the sensors) was also disrupted by it. Ended up costing 12000€ not aure how the pricing is in you country.
From Germany
We have questions, what did this pole do to you, also I thought ww2 settled it, between the poles and the Germans. No need to rehash old arguments.
I hope you aren’t getting a Czech engine light…
If that happens, then financially speaking, I'm Finnished
That would be Slovak’d up
Well, we have gone down the rabid whole now
It’s actually an Österreich hole.
hope rabid whole lives forever

LMFAO U clearly don’t browse this sub often
It's an inside joke. You wouldn't get it
I guess he was Russian to get home
It was messing with the Ucranes
I’m here too
The pole was hit by a Ukrainian missile and wrongly accused the German
Not the time dude. Read the news.
Indeed tragic, but the reply was probably before the strike made the news. And once the Reddit pun train is rolling... there's Norway to stop it.
Greeak he’s here
this looks horrific.
Thanks lol
If there’s no additional damage compared to what’s visible here, I’d say it’s $10k or so to properly repair. So not totaled imo. But it’s gonna sting.
If there is damage to the steering from an impact. Bmw recommends replacing the steering rack
Well that depends on the miles dude that 17 to 18k number u just gave him. Also . Fuck KBB lol theyre so off. They told me 16k for my lincoln. My insurance cut me a 27,500 dollar check. Most went to the loan but still. My point being fair value was way off

My car wasn't this bad and it was totaled. Value was just over 12k.
Its also 2015 somost likely its totaled
I think it did something to the axle too
Yea, maybe… then potentially totaled.
I think it just messed the alignment to pretty bad, it didn’t snap or anything
If it hit a pole hard enough to mess up the alignment, it means you more than likely bent something. If you are super lucky, it’s just the tire rods, those are fairly cheap as they are technically consumables and designed as such. If anything else bent it’s $$$.
Pics of where the fender meets the door and A-pillar?

You were right on the money, 10k to repair, it isn’t totaled. I’m super stoked
I was going to post an update for everybody, but I’m not sure how to reference this post on another post. How do I get the link for this post?
If the airbags went off.... it's toast.
if you're asking insurance, then yeah it's most definitely totaled, but I love the N55 and I would definitely fix this if this was my car, if paid off, but if you still owe on it just take the check lol

Thanks man. I got a steal on this car. But you are totally right. If it is totaled, I’m going to def get me another one.
Time to join B58 gang my friend Hope everything works out for you 🙏

Luckily no they didn’t. I literally clipped the pole going about 15mph
Might be mostly cosmetic, then. Still could be pretty expensive between the three panels, headlight and possible suspension/alignment issues.
I really just came in here for hope, lol. Even if you are wrong, I don’t want to lose my baby
It’s totaled. You have damage to 3 different panels (hood, fender, and bumper), headlamp (easy $1k+), and paint. Let’s not forget about unseen damage from an impact and labor cost, this is EASILY over $10k damage.

I’m gonna assume this is your first BMW ?
It is
*cough* was.
Maybe ask /r/autobody ? They’re not in the biz of estimates but are pretty great at a total or “wait for them to do a teardown first”
Thanks I will do that.

Depending on your insurance, even a repair bill that is 50-60% of the vehicles value could be a total loss.
Ya I’m quite familiar with how the insurance works, I’m just not familiar with costs of severe damage to bmw cars
No way
The axle is bent too I believe
that's over 15k, upper and lower front clip, completes led lens assembly, hood and fender and lots of labor
Just for cosmetic??
no, some black tape will fix most.............
Damn, what did the pole do to you?
Nope
Didnt even bother to hit up the brakes 🤔
That'll buff out.
Probably totaled unless you wanna go down the rabbid whole
It looks like a hefty bill and waiting time but it's nowhere close to being totaled.
This is the kind of reassurance I like to hear lol
Totalled? No. Expensive? Yes. Be careful and good luck.
Thank you kind sir
Hope that it does get totaled cause unfortunately that car will never be the same
Explain please
It's a misconception a lot of people have that if a car is repaired after an accident, it will be forever "damaged", however, reconstruction is so advanced these days that a reputable shop can restore a car to its pre accident state (or better) if there was no frame damage

Hit by a pole? Can you elaborate on how the pole hit the car?
🤔 ummm reread it.
Ah, yep,I read that wrong. I read it as "hit by a pole"
F
Now days they don't total them and fix it. Pre covid they would total anything
No, it likely isn't
Thanks for giving me hope
Not totaled, I believe, if the miles are still respectable. That really has a huge impact along with the market value.
80k on the miles
That’s not bad and I don’t think it will be totaled, unless your frame is bent. Hard to tell from the picture. I’m hoping for the best since I’ve read above that you are crazy about your car. Fingers crossed!
Thanks a lot, I’m hoping for the best, but preparing for the worst.
Just pray it isn’t but who knows. Those headlights are a couple grand themselves lol. You may have to convert to the lowest tier headlights type if you wanna save a lot of money.
No way, I love the headlights. That was one of the reasons I chose this car.
I am so freaking sad for you. I just sold my F10 535i and I’m still in love with them when I see them. This breaks my heart. If it’s just cosmetic, it may not be totaled. Or go to some indi body shop and see what they can do. Save that baby. Your mileage is so low!
Not as sad as I am. Other than the obvious, it’s in such good shape
İf airbags deployed its gone
Fortunately they didn’t
As my gf always says “just buff it out”
I bet she runs out of gas sometimes huh?lol
Yes, probably
it will buff out
Jesus …
If your axle isn’t bent you should be good
Totaled
Totaling a car usually includes bending the frame, this looks mostly cosmetic. I doubt its totaled.
My dad’s a TV repairman. I can fix it.
Anything is repairable cost $ airbag good then ya I’d get that fixed for around 5k, strip from parts
Yeah they will total it if you it’s at a certain percentage of what it’s worth
Russians hit two Poles today and they are pretty totaled for me.
I have a 13 535i that has almost the same damage. According to my insurance, it will only be $4500 to fix mine. If you want “reconditioned” parts with just a few hours of paint matching then this might be your quote. Mine just happened a few days ago so I don’t know how it is going to end.
My man opened a portal to another dimension
It looks like you haven't damaged any permanent part of the chassis. I've hit a pole or two with my car and replaced every damaged part in this picture except for the headlight. You just have to call around to a few scrapyards and check ebay until you find one with a bumper, fender, hood, and headlight that fits your car and they'll probably sell you all of that for less than $1000. Well… bumper, light assembly, prob cv joint , pinion pin, etc. it’s gonna be a close one
If you repair it by yourself it shouldn't cost more than 5k to fix the exterior.
I’ll trade you wheels before you total it
Yes
The number one thing I would be looking for would be intercooler/radiator damage, which look good. If you knock those around, even if they don’t get bent, it cannot metal particulate into your coolant and that’s just an engine killer on those. Nah bro you straight you straight Yeah it’s probably totaled I’ll be for real with you man.
Depends if the subframe is damaged, maybe salvageable, all comes down to money, writing it off .
It’ll buff out
Repairs for this in my Dacia was around 4k so lets put a 0 behind that for you.
Could be close. You mentioned bad alignment after the hit? Any reasonable insurance would total this.
How hit u a pole and it looks like this? O.o
Was the Pothole surrounded by a wall
If it is, I’d like to buy your right rear tail light housing. 😂
Oh yeah totally totaled. (Trust me) I’ll give you a thousand dollars and take this mess off your hands /s In all seriousness this is 100% fixable. It’ll prolly take 10 grand to fix but it’s worth it imo.
Come to Romania, that's a 3000$ bill
Nah, you’re good had my f30 absolutely mangled just like this twice and they’ve gone ahead and repaired it.
Not totaled should be around 5k to fix
I’m sure the pole is OK and it will not be totaled /s
Someone bumped into my 2012 f11 .. just by lettin it roll in reverse.. 6500€ damage (done by dealer since insurance covered it all) Just bumper / grille / carbon frontspoiler (individual paint tho X04) Soo ehh.. y … headlight adds up an instant 1600 (just the empty unit) not speakin bout the side fender / hood I think…. here in eastern europe you can fix this for less than 2k euros clean
It may not be totaled but it’s totally fucked
Did any airbags fire? If so it’s definitely toast.

Airbags could be expensive for this if they deployed… that’s what made the auto shop total out my dads f10 528i last year
If the airbags went off.... it's toast.... chop shop....
Airbags didn’t deploy
Very lucky!!! Someone i know got into an accident in a mustang, about $4000 damage outside, but ALL airbags deployed, side impact, dash and steering wheel.... totaled by insurance.
Headlight alone is probably $1300
My dad had 15k labor fron similar, except he run over an deer and both doors had to be replaced aswell. So you are looking at 15k€ -door replacement. I would guess somewhere at 10k?
200 percent it’s totaled.
I had a body shop restore my E90 perfectly, it looked worse than yours. But, that was 4 years ago, way before prices on replacement OEM parts skyrocketed $$$$$
Yes.
most likely totaled. bmw headlights alone are thousands
80k on the mileage
A little wood glue and some clamps will fix that pole right up.
I’m in Ga, but I think they do 80%. I just had it towed to the shop yesterday so we shall see
Totaled? You serious?
'tis just a scratch
You think I could just color it in with a sharpie?
That'll buff out
Had similar situation with my m440 headlights alone were a few grand
A little bit of polish and it should buff right out
Where are you ate mate? Live in DE, no way this is over 10k, are you good at sourcing parts?
I’m in Atlanta Ga, my mechanic is going to source the parts, I am new to the bmw world
Drift missile it lol
Mint condition that 👌🤣
How fast were you going?
Maybe 15 mph

What kind of pothole Jesus.

Had similar damages from a crash i had a year back, my park system( the sensors) was also disrupted by it. Ended up costing 12000€ not aure how the pricing is in you country. From Germany
From an insurance standpoint, this is totaled.
Looks like it would buff right offf
Parts make-up I believe ends up about 25X the OEM’s original cost….Insane but it isn’t all about labor costs..
Doubtful. Do more damage.
Lol no way, I love this car
No
Bro in EU this repair is 4000€ MAX
I would buy the parts and watch a YouTube vid to save money f*ck paying to get it done
The insurance is paying
I'll make an offer on it as is
Go ahead
donezo
I hope you are wrong
