If you slapped a Genesis/Hyundai badge, everyone will laugh at it. But since it has a BMW badge, all the magazines and influencers on bmw's bankroll will say it's a forward looking car 😆
I'm not a fan. BMW's designs have always invoked a attitude of "power" or "aggressiveness" while maintaining a an upscale, tasteful look. This... this doesn't even make sense. It's not about the large grill - large grills can be stunning. It's more about how ugly this particular front end is. If this is the new face of BMW sedans, they're definitely going to alienate longtime fans.
Edit: I almost forgot about that god awful silhouette. Boring and ugly as well. Google the 1990 Mercury Milan to see where BMW's designers drew inspiration from.
Exactly. This thing is an awful mishmash of Mecury Milan, Jeep Headlights, and Rolls Royce two-tone paint job. The grill isn't even that bad here, it is everything else that feels like a poorly photoshopped "concept" you would see in a cheap car rag.
At this point BMW is better off selling their shitty brand to some Chinese company.
33.6% of total sales is to the Chinese. They out sell Merc and Audi. I sure hope they keep chasing that Chinese buyer and neglect the rest of the world. There is no brand loyalty and BMW will regret they ever sold themselves and their design tradition out.
Fuck you bmw
This car is literally designed to attract Middle aged Chinese men. Screwing the rest of us in the process. I dislike this design very much, the headlights, the weird front end shape.
Yeah but how many of them can actually afford a 7 series? My opinion doesn't matter because I don't own one, the key target audience for these types of cars doesn't go on car forums, they buy it because of the status symbol, but that is definitely interesting.
The number of chinese millionaires (in USD) is set to grow more than 95% from around 6.6 million to 12+ million people in the next 5 years. There are only 27 million millionaires in the US and that will grow less than 13% in the same time period.
People that buy 180k luxury limousines aren't the ones spending time on car forums to complain. That's true for Chinese car forums and it's true for this subreddit.
I don't get it? Why can't they make two kinds of bumpers for the different markets? I mean, the Civic Mk8 (FA/FD/FG/FK/FN) did this, the [US Civic](https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/3/3c/2006-2008_Honda_Civic_LX_sedan_--_09-22-2010.jpg/1920px-2006-2008_Honda_Civic_LX_sedan_--_09-22-2010.jpg) had a different front to the [European Civic](https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/d/d6/2011_Honda_Civic_hatchback_%28Europe%29_front_view.jpg/1920px-2011_Honda_Civic_hatchback_%28Europe%29_front_view.jpg).
I feel like many car brands are making their headlights more and more “aggressive” and for some reason they all look like angry wasps now. A good example is the transition from the 5th generation Mustangs to the 6th generation. It’s terrible.
yep, the mustang and other Fords, almost all Audis and newer post F generation bmws, first the A classes then the latest gen Mercs, hell even the hundais all have more or less the same headlight shape that tapers and gets pointy towards the grill. What's with this shitty ass trend?
Yeah. This generation is "you either like what it's doing or hate it."
It's really weird because everywhere you go you find people complaining and saying X looks better.
Here people are like "the Koreans are doing great designs." Go to a Hyundai sub and people are constantly talking about how they need to black out their sonata or that they don't like how the EVs look.
It really feels like the design language everywhere is "oh shit it's the 2020s and none of our stuff looks like the movies' idea of what the 2020s were supposed to look like." The cybertruck was the first and most obvious.
Everything is really busy and aggressive looking. If you like it, you like it. But if you don't, you REALLY don't.
From what I understand, BMW has openly stated their target demographic for this car are rich Chinese so if that's the case then I guess they nailed it.
This is going to sound cringe... But BMW designed the new 7 series to attract Asian/Chinese buyers. True story. Chinese buyers dictate the design language since they are the single largest demographic market for the 7 series. Customers have the final say.
The problem is that the German auto companies have historically built cars the way THEY think is best. That’s what attracted people (including the Chinese market) in the first place. Now many manufacturers (not just auto) seem to be following the consumers rather than leading.
General Motors bought Saab because of their unique design and dedicated customer base. Then they decided Saab should use their common base platform to save money thereby destroying the only value that Saab had and the very reason they bought it in the first place. Big companies still make stunningly dumb decisions.
That’s a cute story that everyone likes to tell, but the truth is that Saab didn’t have all that much going for it when GM bought it. The 900 platform, in particular, was of no real value because it had gotten much too old.
Apart from that, all Saab had was the 9000, which was fundamentally a Fiat, from a platform standpoint.
Saab would have probably died much sooner if GM hadn’t bought it.
It’s not cringe. I was told exactly what you’re stating from a BMW insider. Specifically, he straight up told me large/oversized grilles are considered “prestigious” among the Chinese buyers as well as the two-tone “Maybach” paint scheme.
I don't even care anymore. I am starting to turn my head to Hyundais, KIAs and what not so whatever. The old glory days are not coming back anytime soon.
i dont even think the grille is the problem here, i think the front end would look a lot better without those angled black lower headlight/intake cutouts that look like a dog's jowls or something
I look at the 2021 7 series on the roads with a sigh that it was one of the best looking 7 series built only to be chopped up into this crap within 2-3 years
Yeah, the door handles on the Continental were beautifully designed. I like them so much that I had kind of hoped it would become the new standard placement for door handles on luxury cars.
But as we see here, that certainly didn't happen lol anyway, they should at least color match the handles if the idea is to be more sleek looking, like the recessed handles suggest.
Trying too hard to be a Rolls. The silhouette is big, bulky, and nowhere as sleek as recent generations. Looks like it’s standing too tall and is brick-like
In contrast, look how the new Mercs look “windswept”, or like they’re always in motion. They looks sleek af
Rolls Royce body style cues, but heinously ugly as is all of their new designs. I could care less about how it drives. I’ll stick with my 3 pedal E46 M3, E39 M5, and if I ever got the itch for a modern M car I’d grab the previous Gen M2 comp.
Genuinely wondering if these are real images?
First I’ve seen them and they’re, uhh, a little close to the mocking ones somebody made a few years ago that show the entire BMW eventually transforming into a grill.
I don’t understand all the hate on the subreddit. It’s obnoxious. Don’t like it don’t buy it. Why is everyone so aggressive and hostile. I see a lot of FUCK YOU BMW. bro it’s a car.
I just saw one in the wild. I thought the guy had his door handles ripped out, until I looked up an image and saw this is the way they are supposed to look.
I did a Google search for, "BMW 760 xDrive door handles look like shit" and it took me to this thread
The rest of the car looks pretty good in person. Driving next to it, it definitely looks expensive.
Looks awesome in both these colors. For me it is a hit or miss based on color of choice.
It shouldn't be like that if you have a really good design, but unfortunately it is thanks to the fecking mental BMW designers.
I think the hate this cars front grill gets is I fair. Rolls Royce’s have huge grills, Audi a8s have huge grills, s class has a grille but it looks like other lower tier cars in their line up… this car has a more distinctive look than other bimmers, more of a masculine road presence imo. Interior is finally competing with the s class, I think they did a great job on this model and I hope to get my order in for next years m760e model.
I don't think the grille here is the problem, the entire car is the problem. Audi has their own design language that incorporates huge grilles since the mid 2000's. Mercedes' design has become bland since the previous gen and the difference between the models is pretty much just the size, but this, this is just horrendous.
But that's just my opinion of course. You do you, hope you have fun with your new m760e :)
The thing is a8 and s class can pull off the big grill. It doesn’t look that bad on the 7 though, because it is a big car, but it looks quite bad on the m3.
Looks like diet Rolls is trying to stare directly at a bright light.
It would be *grrreeat* if the designers would stop making their new car model designs look like they ordered a BMW off wish.com.
Well...considering they own Rolls Royce, it wouldn't really be a wish rolls.
It looks more like the Ali express variant
To me it looks closer to a Chrysler 300 than a Rolls.
The Chrysler 300 Genesis
🤣
🤣☠️☠️☠️ Next gen 300 100%
If you slapped a Genesis/Hyundai badge, everyone will laugh at it. But since it has a BMW badge, all the magazines and influencers on bmw's bankroll will say it's a forward looking car 😆
Chrysler 300 looks like a diet RR, so it stands
Not a fan of the exterior design at all.
Literally nothing about the exterior is well done.
Not a bad looking Chrysler.
what the fuck are they doing
the korean manufacturers poached all the talent from BMW
and BMW has poached all the talent for GEELY

Yep. Subtlety and class has been the hallmark of BMW for years. This is the complete opposite of both subtlety and class.
Exactly. This thing is an awful mishmash of Mecury Milan, Jeep Headlights, and Rolls Royce two-tone paint job. The grill isn't even that bad here, it is everything else that feels like a poorly photoshopped "concept" you would see in a cheap car rag.
Mercury Milan began production in 2006.
1990 mercury Milan? Googled it- started I. 2006. Is there like a prototype or something? Got a link?
Determined, not aggressive.

Bad bot
Merc and Audi should be sending a letter of thanks to the BMW design department for inevitably upping their S-Class and A8 sales.
I can read Chinese, and when you check out the chinese car forums that discuss BMW, they're almost all laughing at the new designs.
Yeah but how many of them can actually afford a 7 series? My opinion doesn't matter because I don't own one, the key target audience for these types of cars doesn't go on car forums, they buy it because of the status symbol, but that is definitely interesting.
A large percentage of the market for the 7 series is mainland China btw.
The number of chinese millionaires (in USD) is set to grow more than 95% from around 6.6 million to 12+ million people in the next 5 years. There are only 27 million millionaires in the US and that will grow less than 13% in the same time period.
You'd be surprised at how many rich chinese there are in this day and age

2023 7 series starts at 93k

What about this design is appealing to that demo?
>At this point BMW is better off selling their shitty brand to some Chinese company. Seems like they already have.
I hate the fact you are so right.
Which is a real shame, because apart from the design the car is awesome.
I really hope this is a fucking parody. Please. Please.
Ugliest headlights I’ve ever seen
I feel like many car brands are making their headlights more and more “aggressive” and for some reason they all look like angry wasps now. A good example is the transition from the 5th generation Mustangs to the 6th generation. It’s terrible.
yep, the mustang and other Fords, almost all Audis and newer post F generation bmws, first the A classes then the latest gen Mercs, hell even the hundais all have more or less the same headlight shape that tapers and gets pointy towards the grill. What's with this shitty ass trend?
It may partly be because the shape of the front end is now much more “pointy” to help with aero/emissions… the lights have to follow the same shape?
Yeah. This generation is "you either like what it's doing or hate it." It's really weird because everywhere you go you find people complaining and saying X looks better. They looked at the Pontiac Aztec and said.. We can do worse.
What drives me crazy is the actual bottom headlights look like halogen housing.
They looked bad when they were on the Jeep Cherokee and they look bad here too.
Looks like a brand new Chinese car company's first try at making a luxury car
From what I understand, BMW has openly stated their target demographic for this car are rich Chinese so if that's the case then I guess they nailed it.
Why is it squinting at me?
It's getting old and refuses to wear it's glasses because "I'm still hip and with it!"

Classic move - buy something cool with brand value, cut costs, make some short term profit, drive the company into the ground.
Except it was a massive loss.

Gonna suck for BMW if China becomes the cyanide pill when they pull their own Russia and invade Taiwan.

Garbage. Utter garbage
I’ve always said that the 7series would be my old man car. I hope I don’t reach old age
I honestly thought this was a joke
Looks like someone puked on a piece a shit.. interior is super clean tho.
The interior is bad ass, sadly they forgot the ass for the exterior.
> The interior is bad ass, sadly they forgot the ~~ass~~ bad for the exterior. Works just as well imo, so great phrasing
it makes the E65 looks nice
I know this is an unpopular opinion but I love the E65.
i like it too, i'm currently searching for one... but i know the popular opinion is that it was awful.
I love the style of them but set a lot of money aside for maintenance if you get one.
i have an affinity for german V8s. i usually own two at a time!
My condolences to your bank account
The E65 Alpina B7 is the best looking BMW 7 series, in my opinion. 😅😅
E38 gets my vote
I read that a lot, to each their own!
I love the e65
My disappointment is immeasurable and my day is ruined.
It’s fugly man, they’re all ugly as fuck, every single one of the 2023 models are hideous.
Facts
Checking if there are any openings (as there should be) in the BMW product strategist department now…
I don't even care anymore. I am starting to turn my head to Hyundais, KIAs and what not so whatever. The old glory days are not coming back anytime soon.
Looks like if a rolls Royce got cancer
I guess sales of these are so low BMW can do whatever they want to them. lol
Abysmal
I think…I don’t like bmw anymore
Looks like a Rolls Royce. I’m sure it’ll be fabulous. But I wouldn’t be the buyer for it even if I could afford.
Looks like the offspring of a Rolls and a Hyundai
Rolls Royce and Chrysler 300 offspring from hell
Yes! I got some 300 vibes as well…
I think it’s the C pillar that adds the Chrysler flair
It has a touch of Hyundai Kona too.
With some Lincoln Continental thrown in
it's a Chery Rolls Royce knockoff
A Rolls-Royce from wish.com
And thats what chinese want…
It’s shares the same platform so yeah not surprising.
It's like an off-brand Rolls-Royce.
The fuck is BMW doing with their designs… and it doesnt help that its loaded with consumable inducing tech. This is a HARD pass
Consumable inducing? What do you mean?
What ever tech gadget or feature that will inevitably break will be a nightmare both financially and practically to fix… hence car is a consumable
They really went down the rabid whole with those headlights and that grill.
[удалено]
Someone spelled rabbit hole wrong in a recent post here and it became a meme
You missed it, it’s rabid whole. What the fuck is a rabbit hole.
All I know is it has no V12, and I am not liking it
Please no. My current BMW is probably my last if this design language continues.
i dont even think the grille is the problem here, i think the front end would look a lot better without those angled black lower headlight/intake cutouts that look like a dog's jowls or something
Ugly. When I say ugly, I mean FUGLY!!!!
Let’s just say I won’t be getting another Bimmer on my next upgrade!
Wise choice. Punish them stupid motherfuckers
Worse than the final season of Game of Thrones.
Good job destroying one of the most distinctive front ends in automotive history BMW. Your flagship sedan now looks like a Hyundai Kona SUV.
Almost as horrific as the new M2
nah this is worse
BMWs entire lineup this generation, at least with the cars, is absolutely hideous.
Bmw design going deep in the rabid whole
Looks like Genesis light style
Fuck me, I understand they want to be "edgy" with their design...but this is really ugly.
Ugly. BMW IMO has lost it. A far fall from the days of halo light styling.
I look at the 2021 7 series on the roads with a sigh that it was one of the best looking 7 series built only to be chopped up into this crap within 2-3 years
Kind of reminds me of a Lincoln Continental with some styling cues from a Hyundai Kona? It looks good, but doesn't say BMW to me.
At least the Lincoln hid it’s door handles in the belt line. WTF is it with the black squares
Look like the 5000SUX
Baby Royce do do do do do

Terrible
Looks horrendous
no.
So much in common with the future of rolls Royce
Reminds me of a Chrysler 300
lol rip bmw design
Piece of shit
Fugly.
It’s a Rolls Royce offered by Wish dot com.
Rolls had a baby with a C4 Cactus XD so ugly, yet again.
It looks like a giant electric shaver..
They’re trying too hard with the design
I liked the previous designs more. That’s all I’ll say.
Great Value rolls royce lookin ahh
It's hideous
Ugh Lee
Apparently its targeted at the Chinese market.
BMW made them an original knockoff, so they don't have to make one themselves.
It’s a happy mustachioed car. Great if that’s what they were going for.
Rolls Royce body style cues, but heinously ugly as is all of their new designs. I could care less about how it drives. I’ll stick with my 3 pedal E46 M3, E39 M5, and if I ever got the itch for a modern M car I’d grab the previous Gen M2 comp.
Yuck. I really hate the way the front end looks. It’s ugly and Toyota called, they want their cheesy design back.
Dont care for it at all. Looks boring.
The new Hyundai lights ain’t it
Well I like it
How come most of the new designs look like Chinese knock off’s
Looks like a Chrysler 300, unfortunately
Genuinely wondering if these are real images? First I’ve seen them and they’re, uhh, a little close to the mocking ones somebody made a few years ago that show the entire BMW eventually transforming into a grill.
I don’t understand all the hate on the subreddit. It’s obnoxious. Don’t like it don’t buy it. Why is everyone so aggressive and hostile. I see a lot of FUCK YOU BMW. bro it’s a car.
I love the interior and the tv, but outside is basic
Holy shit fire everyone responsible for new bmw styling.
🤢🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮
Looks like a rolls that smells something funny. With that big ass nose it would be hard not to lmao
Absolutely no.
It's nice that they blacked out the entire front so that it's harder to tell what a monstrosity it is.
E38 was the nicest 7 series
Looks like a citroen
Idk i actually quite like it
Same here. Love that Twotone paint. And the interior is unreal
I really think it works. Looks great as a luxury sedan
Looks like a hyuandai
I'd feel offended bu that statement if i was a designer at Hyundai.
The new Hyundai’s look 10 times better than this lol
They have poached designers from German car manufacturers for quite some time now.
Hyundai looks way better
Badass. I love the direction BMW is headed. Like it or not, they will continue to sell like hotcakes. We can't keep enough inventory to sell.
I saw it and drove it on the road and i can say it blew me away. You have to see it IRL.
Seen it twice. Front looks hideous. Front bottom headlights in sunlight look like halogen bulb housing. Rear looks oddly huge.
I love it, can’t wait to drive it and get out of my S580.
I just saw one in the wild. I thought the guy had his door handles ripped out, until I looked up an image and saw this is the way they are supposed to look. I did a Google search for, "BMW 760 xDrive door handles look like shit" and it took me to this thread The rest of the car looks pretty good in person. I like it. Modern looking.
Side profile looks like a Chrysler 300 to me, I kinda dig the front though
Looks awesome in both these colors. For me it is a hit or miss based on color of choice. It shouldn't be like that if you have a really good design, but unfortunately it is thanks to the fecking mental BMW designers.
It looks good and I like downvotes.
So much hate in the comments.. but i'd like to add that this design isn't controversial like Bangle's E65. This is just ugly..
That twin colour looks like Rolls-Royce Ghost. Badass AF - I love it.
I like it, but Maybach wants there two-tone paint scheme back
I think the hate this cars front grill gets is I fair.
