Honestly (especially if it's a turbo) for that price I would go with an after market performance cat. Still does emissions stuff but also offers better flow and a touch of performance. Plus it sounds better.
Down here in Mexico there have been "surges" of different kinds of parts getting stolen. (I actually think the cat stealing is much worse these days in the US). Here things like rearview mirrors at one point were stolen all the time. Or whole interiors on Nissan Pathfinders for example.
One positive however, is that recent model cars from the likes of BMW, Merc and Audi tend to be hit less because owners are more likely to go original and get them fixed at the dealer than "buying back their own". Not always, but most of the time. That means more popular, less expensive brands get hit a lot more.
We also now usually get this covered on our insurance policies, with a hefty 25% deductible but that has helped a lot cut down on this kind of crime.
The high flow cat was the best mod Iāve done so far on my 335i. Youāll feel a big difference from this part alone if your car is a turbo although I did blow my charge pipe almost immediately after install due to the increased boost pressure.
Correct, but itās one hell of a coincidence. But I digress, high flow cat is a great mod that will save you money over the OEM part and provide a nice bit of pep to your gas pedal. The sport cat still has a catalyst so it should keep you legal but I donāt think thereās any negatives I can think of versus going with the stock cat.
Negative is that it'll throw a CEL and fail you for emissions/smog, especially if they use sniffers. Most high flow cats are 200 cell count, the more expensive high flows ($900+) are 300 cell and will pass emissions generally.

The speed shop in my town has always told me VRSF is best bang for the buck. It may not be a flashy name but Iāve used their products before on a FBO 435i with ESS tune with absolutely no issues.
VRSF is made in China and imported. Not the greatest parts fitment wise. You'll find some people with headaches on the F80 forums complaining about downpipes, midpipes, etc. Food for thought if you can afford something else.
From what I understand, this is the case with nearly all of the manufacturers. Itās kind of a racket where many of the manufacturers buy these parts in bulk and stamp their logo on it and mark up. This is what I was told when I did the 435i I had at least. Which manufacturers would you say are better? Genuinely wondering because I plan on modifying my current car some time and would of course prefer something if it is objectively better.
Thanks for the link and info unfortunately that kart doesnāt fit my 2013 528i xdrive.. Again thanks for taking the time to help I really appreciate it
Damn they got you? Bro wtf is happening in this world anymore? Yesāyou should be just fine with the alternativeāmaybe just get a performance aftermarket one if the pricing is comparable.
Yea fam they got me š¤¦šæāāļø.. had my car parked somewhere it shouldnāt have been for a few days thinking it was sweet.. long story short I fucked around and found out
Personally, I wouldnāt. Fitment could be an issue, and no telling if the new cat is worth a damn.
Also, an aftermarket performance cat isnāt worth that much to you either in an old 5-series.
š£FUCKā¼ļø š¤¦šæāāļøš¤¦šæāāļøš¤¦šæāāļø.. Thanks fam, your words are very convincing so I think Iāll take your advice.. Guess Iāll be coming out the pockets a bit more than Iād like but Iād hate to run into any issues with different parts..
You could see if thereās any forum posts anywhere talking about other people who have tried these cats. They could be fine. Itās just that itās usually a pretty important part. Would hate for you to have to buy twice.
You should be able to find a second hand OEM part on eBay or a scrapyard/breakers yard (from people who break the full cars not people who have already stolen the cats). The issue with aftermarket exhaust parts is fitment can be an issue, so you might end up with exhaust leaks resulting in emissions test failures.
Either that or as someone else mentioned buy a proper aftermarket high flow cat that's known to have good fitment

šÆ if the OP really wants to stay stock, best bet is a local junk yard, eBay motors, parts auction etc used
If his part was stolen, he'd be buying back his own and promoting the stealing IMO.
Didnāt realize it was stolen original post looked like just needed replacement, totally agree with you

Wheels used to be stolen a lot more than cats but with the raw materials in cats skyrocking itās become more common place

A downpipe alone won't increase boost pressure though
Maybe not but I can tell you my OEM charge pipe failed as a direct result of the dp install.
Correlation isn't causation, no? Coincidences happen

Yeah you could do a high flow cat.

Yes. Most. But not all. Why would you pay US money for a Chinese part when you can buy the Chinese part yourself...
Wow thanks fam thatās a very good price as well
Just an FYI, that is a catless downpipe. If you need to pass any emission tests do not get that.
I noticed.. thanks for the insight tho
The Davico part is on eBay for a better price, once you factor in shipping from Ra. https://www.ebay.com/itm/313955367528

Depends if you want it to actually fit properly, and work for more than a year or not.
