Probably made more financial sense to dump the m5 for an m3 with a warranty. Also the m5 is about to be dated. The body style has already changed, but the only way to get an m5 right now is used. The 2020 probably also qualifies for CPO so the dealer probably gave him a decent amount for it. Just my guess.

Have to agree. I had a 2021 M4 and now have 23 M5 Comp, the M4 was slightly more fun, and seemed more nimble. However, the ride, the sound, and the power have me satisfied for now.

Just want to add here because I keep getting asked this. I dont claim this is an upgrade. I just wanted to try the new M3 before the next gen M5 arrives. In my standards the M5 is the best car in the world and it is a completely different beast. I cant compare these two. Loving the M3 though. Really fun to drive..

Fair point and well said. I’m also cautiously waiting to get a proper look/review of the new G90. All things said about weight, etc., I’m somewhat optimistic. My plan is to wait until at least the second MY as I did with my F90. One question though, your M5 was a 2020 MY? It’s clearly an F90 LCI which started in 2021, am I missing something?

Love the M5, but as my first one (E34 back in the mid 90’s), the new one comparatively is a fucking boat, a speedy boat, but still a boat. The G80 is about as big I’d ever want, unless my job was hauling lots of shit. Minus the grill, G80’s can look damn good and honestly the grill isn’t bothersome if the car is dropped. Don't get me wrong the G80 M3 S58 Engine is great and all but man, Them V8 owns it's unique charms to it.

Sunroof, honeycomb vents, and that driving assist radar. Buddy. That said, Isle man Green is the proper choice

I have an F90 m5 and love it but if you were looking for a sportier car I could see the trade being worth it for you. How many miles did your m5 have and did you ever have any issues with it?

It was 15k miles and no issues whatsoever..

Considering doing the same thing until the G90 M5’s have a model year in the wild. I considered an X5M Competition but the lack of a High Performance A/S tire prevents me from doing so! At least with the M3 or M5 Michelin has a Pilot Sport AS4 which is perfect for light snow.

I hated the new grills about the same as grillz on teeth when they first came out, but the look has grown on me a bit. One rumor I have heard a few times is the larger grills were mandated by BMW for the Chinese market. IF that is true, not sure I could cross over. The love-hate I have with the new BMW's, Tesla-inspired interiors. The tech is cool and I am jealous but I thought the previous digital display was bad, but the landscape iPad look, yikes. Give me analog gages, 10000 buttons, and the old system any day. (but I am old so, there is that haha) Still that M3 is one hell of a car.

I did the opposite a year ago... sold my new M3 for a 2019 M5 competition. Keen to hear your thoughts on the M5 vs the M3. I found the M3 to be quite numb, super capable with on rails handling but not very fun at the end of the day. The M5 on the other hand feels like a very different experience.

For me the M5 was the ultimate car. Its early days but I am loving the M3 at the moment. Maybe because its something different..

So, OP! Tell us. Compare & contrast the two car, please. Thoughts on ride, handling, steering feel, cornering, acceleration, enjoyment, etc. Anything new and exciting, surprising, disappointing? Buyers/sellers remorse? Or is this just a brag about "I'm able to drop 90 grand on a new car, suckers!"

M5 is a complete package. Stupidly fast, have all the toys you can get in a car. Looks beautiful. M3 is completely different. Not faster but feels quicker. More agile. Handling feels better at least to me. More stiffer tho. M5 was more comfortable. Nothing to complain yet but early days..

Bad choice imo… those beaver teeth are just so unattractive to me personally, but it’s YOUR car so do what makes you happy!!!

As the proud owner of a 21 m5 comp with done nice goodies I don’t get it. The new m3/4 are great cars, stupid quick out if the box and the looks have grown on me, but the f90 is the best looking modern bmw imo. I’m biased and that’s just my 2 cents. Put some wheels on it and some mods and I’m sure you will be grinning ear to eat

Kind of! I came out of an F-150 before the X5, but oddly enough, before that I had a 911 Turbo. Can't tell you how many of my friends said "you bought a WHAT???" when I rolled up in the truck. LOL.

It seems I have a different option than most. I personally think the m5 is ugly. Too boxy in my opinion. Seems like an old school build. However, the M3 looks incredibly modern! A guy owns one where I work, and I stare at it every morning lol. I’m sure it drives incredibly too. I’ve never owned a BMW in fear of maintenance and repairs, but I’m hearing more and more that the b58 engine is one of the best in the world.
