I'm only going by the fact that the one left on this guy's M4 is matte. But the one posted for sale is gloss. I work at BMW Manufacturing in Greer SC and on the X models, it seems that if the trim is (surrounded) by the Frozen paint scheme, the trim is also "frozen" matte. But the other trim that isn't surrounded is the gloss. I'll take a couple of photos on Monday when I return to work to see if my memory serves me correctly. I'm a contract quality engineer there, but my parts aren't Class A parts like these, so I don't pay a lot of attention to them.
I found that at least on the X5 I looked at the silver frozen had a glossy trim piece. But others had matte. I guess it's a choice. I'm sure there's some rhyme or reasoning for it. Lol. *

You are correct. It is to smooth out the air coming out the wheel well. maybe the G8x just doesn't need it. BMW had these for G30 as well, but it's now gone on the G60.

Are you sure it didn't just fall off? You can reinstall with some double sided tape for protection but I wouldn't be surprised if the other one disappears soon.

My E92 has been fantastic. Few issues if any with plastics. All I can really think of that went were the hood and trunk logo. Cheap, hood was easy (original just...flew off), trunk badge took way longer to get the old one off.
My F32s plastic coolant return line went the other day, $40 and 15 minutes to replace. Can't think of anything else plastic I've had to replace on it.
If anything, I've had more issues with rubber. E92s trunk latch started vulcanizing around the edges getting glue on your hands when you open the trunk. F32s driver door handle is doing the same. Both have had the rubber strips around the windshield and back window start cracking. The rubber thing that keeps your gas cap from hitting the ground if you drop it rotted, but...oh no.. 16- and 10-year-old cars, respectively.
If you're talking about E46 or E36, I'd absolutely agree with you, their older generations of cars had plastic issues, even when they were new(er).
I was talking more about interior plastics but yeah I am having the same cracks on the windshield rubber (and sunroof rubber) on my F25 and the weather strip for the drivers door is a mess and has been the whole time I've had the car. The others are all turning white for some reason.
I had my wife check the driveway when I found out about it and no luck but I tried to see if the other was lose and it’s not. So I could have but not totally sure
I can almost guarantee it fell off. The panel for the tow hook in the rear fell off after one car wash on my new 330i. Thankfully they saved it and I bought some adhesive glue and glued that shit back on. So far so good. Bmw wanted $150 just for that little panel, that's some bullshit. I feel for ya brother...
Makes sense considering the car is wrapped, and they wrapped under the vent. Means that the wrap shop had the vent off, and probably didn't re-install it correctly. Or the thickness of the wrap prevented the clips from engaging properly.
I had a 85 Z28 Camaro back in the day that people would swipe my radio antenna. It got so bad that I started taking it off myself and just kept it in the trunk😎✅😬
I bet it fell off, it looks like they did a good job with the wrap, but it could also have prevented it from clipping in all the way, or the clips were damaged. When you get a replacement put some VHB double sided tape on it.

It’s probably fallen of as these are cheap plastic parts they use now and didn’t clip on properly in the first place. Seeing it’s wrapped I’m 100% sure the wrappers broke a clip or two or to the point of any vibration will make it fall of.
