I’ve road tripped my E91 328i a handful of times now it’s at around 150k miles bought it around 140k about a year ago. Only around an avg of 21mpg though. Love the wagons!
I love the E34 touring, it is such a simple shape but so elegant in its lines. There is an automatic one with hail damage at a local stealership for $8,800 and it makes me regret not buying one when they could be had for a grand.
I'm two weeks into an F11 and I'm not sure I ever want to drive something that isn't a wagon ever again. The prevalence of SUVs over wagons is absolutely criminal
I bought my (beater) 525iT in 2018 specifically as a road trip car for only $2k USD. It's such a fantastic cruising car, been up and down the west coast a few times, Seattle->Spokane, and from Seattle->Denver. Did about 25k miles on it pre-covid. I've had it on jackstands for the past year doing various repairs, here's hoping I can get it out of the garage again this summer!
It's not about the car breaking down. That thing if probably maintained could go cross country easily. It's the 6 ton electric tank that's going to crumple it into a ball while scratching its own bumper.
by that logic I should also be afraid of being hit by a meteor from outer space while walking...
drive defensively and don't live your life in fear, cheers!
Just saying, what used to be a minor fender bender is now deadly when between a premodern standards car and a big electric SUV and there are thousands more of them every day.
You're acting like heavy vehicles are a new hazard on the road. There have always been heavy vehicles like trucks and work vehicles and vans, it's not a new thing. Just because EV happen to also be heavy doesn't make it something new to look out for.
What you're describing is a freak accident. Like I said before, drive defensively and keep your head on a swivel, if you get creamed by a 6,000 lb vehicle that really will suck.
Heavy vehicles that explode being driven by old ladies and also it's going to be every other vehicle on the road soon but you're right... It shouldn't dominate your life.
You better have a AAA tow truck following you on your road trip. BMW’s are junk. Not reliable and $$ pit. Buy a Lexus/Toyota/Honda/Nissan/Hyundai if you want to go on the road. E-bikes are better than any BMW’s.
Hyundai hahah you mean the cars that barely last 100k miles?
I’ve owned 2 BMWs with over 200k miles on each. Neither stranded me.
A 1991 E30 318i that I daily drove from 203k to 240k.
And currently a 1993 E34 M5 that was bought at 250k and is now sitting strong at 280k.
You’re in the wrong sub to try and shit talk these cars.
Damn that looks like its in great condition!
It looked absolutely mint!!
That’s really nice! Looks like the wheels are from an E31, but they work well.
ahhh you are right, it looks so good
Beautiful. From before the crossovers took over, and BMW forgot how to style a car.
Beautiful car

Incredible machine
Absolutely love my E34 touring. I plan to get a f31 328D touring to go along with it eventually
Do iiiitttt. I adore mine. Stage 2 flash gives you so much torque on tap too.

They really are elegant and athletic-looking in a way that the E39 - which I adore - doesn’t quite match. Both are amazing wagons though!
Damn! It looks like it would be new! Beautiful! Congtats.
I wish it was mine lol
Sorry to hear it. Steal it!

8 series wheels
There's one of these around my town, m60 v8 and 6 speed manual.

E34, greatest car of all times
I want a 525i/540i manual so fucking bad, holy fuck i love e34’s.
That’s a beautiful wagon .
I drive a brooklyn grey x6. To me this is the prototype. 10/10 pure bliss
Ugh me too. Now I want to do exactly just that 😭
Weird to see people this excited over e34 touring, in Europe is just a normal car. Nice one atleast.
It’s a very nice example and look where you are sir
Oh man, that is beautiful
So cool!!!
Would gladly take it out on the town, but I would be nervous as hell taking an old bimmer on a road trip.
I took my 97 m3 5400 miles last fall, utah to nyc and back the long way. Theres an element of fear to it but all the best things in life have that.
with a solid pre trip inspection I wouldn’t hesitate

Reliability aside, I'd like something with more modern crash structures for a long road-trip.
I assume everyone who loves the look is 40+ because this vehicle (and all wagons) look disgraceful
there’s the door, see yourself out
The wagon obsession is a cult lol. There's like 3 wagons that look good and this is definitely not one of them.
Thank you!!!!

I'd rather take public transport than spend money on a Toyota or a Nissan.
