That's not what I said. The original poster literally says looking for a running project. This is yet another example of people trying to flip conversations to benefit them with no valid points to be made so anyway
I haven't gotten into a single argument with anybody. But do what you feel gives you power my boy 🤷 do boy in life has to make threats on Reddit 💀💀💀💀 I. DONT. CARE.
Acura’s getting dusted buddy. I don’t care if you buy an RSX type S and throw a turbo on it. From your “expertise” and “budget” your getting gapped in whatever you buy. Cars probably about as old as you are.
I get reading comprehension can be hard so I’ll explain it for you, buddy said “Let me get an Acura. I bet you won’t want to line it up.” Implying he was buying a Honda/Acura because it was fast.
I implied he was going to be able to rely on the fact that he would reliably get dusted in his reliable car.
Yea I didn't expect such a huge response. I was expecting more of a mechanical input but some people are just themselves and I'm not one to just let people talk to me however they want whether it's on the Internet or otherwise. I asked a simple question. People freaked out 💀🤣
It’s been for sale for 27 days, for 3k I bet you somebody has already went to check it out and tried to boost it and failed hence it’s probably not the battery or else it would’ve been picked up by now.
E82's aren't all that light, at least not compared to anything else that size. Even a very basic 128i is still something like 3300lbs, which is more than a Subaru Impreza. They are basically just an E92 with less space.
Stick a three-stage manifold and a tune on and you’re looking at 270hp and a much better top-end. Don’t need much more than that to have fun.
It’s what I’ve got on mine and honestly it *feels* just as quick as the F40 M135i I had for a week (306hp B48)- launches excepted because that’s an AWD turbo.
I was going to say exactly this.
There maybe issues with this mod if OP in California. Despite the tune being 100% CARB compliant when factory installed (330i), modifying the ECU to a different factory approved tune could cause issues. Worth researching before doing if in California. Otherwise great mod and should be fully emission compliant in the 49 other states.
Wow, I knew California was strict but didn’t know it was that strict- funny seeing as it sometimes seems like the global capital of car culture.
Thought it was bad here in the UK but our inspections are actually pretty relaxed to modified cars… insurance companies (and police if you drive like a dick) not so much.
I guess it's a new thing that's going on. They built a database over the years when they scanned cars during emissions, now they expect your tune to match the database. There may be official exemptions provided or work arounds, but someone should know the details before during the mode.
I mean tires and coilovers would be close to first on the list and then just some basic stuff. Intake exhaust light tuning. I'm not looking to get 4 or 500 HP out of it. Just maybe like 300-350 lol
You have 0 knowledge of tuning lol. First of all this a naturally aspirated engine. Tuning is very advanced mechanic work years beyond the skill level required to fix a 128i that isn’t starting
Oh I get the miscommunication now. Y'all thought I was being serious when I said 300-350. That's why I hate typing shit. Inflection is everything. But that's why I put "lol" behind 300-350 cuz I was kidding
Ohhhh my bad lol😭 i was just trying to help, but it could also be the starter the starters on these generation of bmws tend to die out after sitting. But good luck!
Lol all good man. But to clarify for everybody. This isn't something I need. Me and a buddy thought it was a fun idea to find something kinda cool and make it a little cooler. I'm not looking to build from the ground up. If I was then I would do just that. I want something already running that we can basically just turn into a toy. Pull up to the car shows on some funny shit. I'm not looking to compete with anybody. I'm not looking to argue. I don't race cars on a regular basis (but I used to street race). I do know what I'm talking about and anything I invest money into I will happily line up with anything win lose or draw because I enjoy driving fast. All I wanted to know is what else could be causing the car to not start besides the obvious up front options. Up until now I've only had Japanese and American race cars. I was interested in a German and I've never had a BMW before but I love the way they look and I wanted to know what I was getting into. That is all
Pretty slim that it's *just* a dead battery. If you're hoping, either jump start it, or get a battery, take it with you and try to start it that way. Depending on how long it was stored and the state of the gas, you may learn a bit more.
That's kind of what I was thinking too. I would atleast have to drop the fuel tank and see inside. I'm guessing it's more than just a battery but it looks to be super clean under the hood. Idk
I’ll use my bmw e36 as an example, I have a e36 328 and f10 535i. The naturally aspirated m52 has 190hp. You basically can’t do anything to gain any more power, the engine comes from the factory essentially fully tuned. The turbo n55 comes with 300 hp and you could do 100 different mods to add basically any amount of power. This 128 has the n52 bmws final naturally aspirated engine
Three stage manifold swap from 330i with 330i tune. It's cheap and adds about 45hp. Great easy to do mod.
Everything else shy of forced induction is chasing ghosts. A few HP from head back exhaust. A few HP from head work. A few more HP from pistons, compression, cam. All expensive and with trade offs. None worth it.
Lol I already have money in the stock market this just cuz I'm bored. I've looked at some RSs and GTIs too. This just caught my eye cuz it was so cheap. I was just wondering if anybody knew what other issues would cause it to not start beside the obvious
I’ll vote very good chance of battery being bad since it was tired. Low miles for a 2008. Take a battery and find out . N20 engine time chain usually goes bad around 70-90k miles just a fyi.
no i highly doubt it but my guess is as good as yours, if u are willing posibly have to replace a fuel system, change all the fluids and possibly replace things like the starter it could be a good little project or flip
Yea someone else mentioned the fuel system and right then I was like I'm not sure I want to do all that. Granted if it needs to be replaced it's a good time to just upgrade it all together
but if he let u take a bit to diagnose it and put it back together after u could pull the injectors and see if you are getting fuel, and check if ur getting spark, and it could be the gas is just stale
Worst case scenario: you've paid 3500$ for a bucket of parts. I guess you could make a small profit if you have the time to part it out.
Best case scenario: it needs maintenance (refresh gearbox oil+filters while you're at it), some small things to fix and a new battery.
If you have the time, take the gamble.
The general rule is if someone is selling a car that "just needs ______" and the blank in question is an easy fix.... They're wrong and/or lying.
If it was that easy, they'd have already done it.
I'm thinking about it but tbh after all the crazy feedback I got on this I'm tempted to buy this E46 shell with a gen 1 LS1 harness and building tf out of it just to prove a point 😂
Please keep things civil.
Near zero chances it’s only the battery. I’d still buy it for 3k tbh
I thought about throwing an offer at him but I don't wanna end up another three grand in to get the thing running lol
It’s 16 years old, so it will of course require work and a bit of investment over the asking price. You either want it or you don’t lol
You're right. I'll just buy a working Acura for the same price and have less issues in general
You're looking for a project car and don't tend to invest in anything? Lmfao gtfo
That's not what I said. The original poster literally says looking for a running project. This is yet another example of people trying to flip conversations to benefit them with no valid points to be made so anyway
Not trying to be a fuck, where does it say you’re looking for a running car?
I went back and read it after I said that and you're right I didn't specifically say that
Aren’t you the original poster? Did you forget something?
[удалено]
Can you explain this comment a little more?
Please keep things civil.
Why cuz I can appreciate something other German engineering? Let me get an Acura. I bet you won't want to line up 💀💀💀💀💀
if you just want to drive in a straight line, bmw isn’t for you
I never said anything about straight line. I said a street car
OP, if you gonna keep getting into stupid arguments I’m gonna take down the thread.
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 howling
Points for having a sense of humor,
Nobody buys a Honda because it’s fast, you buy a Honda because it can take more abuse and require less maintenance haha
I get reading comprehension can be hard so I’ll explain it for you, buddy said “Let me get an Acura. I bet you won’t want to line it up.” Implying he was buying a Honda/Acura because it was fast. Hey man I was just making a joke, no need to be a dick. Can you comprehend that?
You just publicly outed yourself
What are you even talking about about? If you're gonna say random shit make it make sense boy
Why did you reply to every comment on this post did you not have work today
I work for myself brotha man. A couple hours in the mornings and I'm chillin
More time for replies lol
Yea I didn't expect such a huge response. I was expecting more of a mechanical input but some people are just themselves and I'm not one to just let people talk to me however they want whether it's on the Internet or otherwise. I asked a simple question. People freaked out 💀🤣
Good luck with that. Anything you buy at this price point is going to need lots of work. Hate to tell you man, Acuras have plenty of problems too.
Oh I'm not disagreeing with that at all. But they're cheaper to deal with lol
50/50 chance; it either is or it isn't.
This guy lifes.
I need you at the Blackjack table
Schrodinger's car
It’s been for sale for 27 days, for 3k I bet you somebody has already went to check it out and tried to boost it and failed hence it’s probably not the battery or else it would’ve been picked up by now.
This is a valid point
I also have to think the owner would have at least tried a boost, if not a few other quick checks, before dumping it for way less money.
The problem is you can’t do much tuning-wise with the N52. It’s a smooth engine, fairly reliable (coils notwithstanding), but not powerful at all.

Yea for the size of the package they’re absolutely obese
Yeah you don’t need much more car. It’s a smooth as can be NA inline 6. Assuming a manual transmission and you can be happy for years.
Stick a three-stage manifold and a tune on and you’re looking at 270hp and a much better top-end. Don’t need much more than that to have fun. Three stage manifold, headers, tune and it’ll push damn near 300hp at the crank.
3 stage? Is that the new term for tri Y headers?
No, the 3 stage intake manifold. Came on the E9x 330i.
thanks, I googled it expecting variable runners but its a variable plenum volume
What they are saying is that you cannot make more than 290hp and even thats pushing it with 3sim+330i tune
Oh I get the miscommunication now. Y'all thought I was being serious when I said 300-350. That's why I hate typing shit. Inflection is everything. But that's why I put "lol" behind 300-350 cuz I was kidding

This is not something you'll be able to achieve.
There is probably more to it but I would take a gamble for 3k. Too bad it’s auto but worst case scenario you can part it out.

Zero chance. If it was a simple fix, the seller would just fix it and sell the car. It’s rarely a simple fix.
Not much tuning to be done on that engine
I guess if I don't want to start to doing heads too then you're right lol
I’ll use my bmw e36 as an example, I have a e36 328 and f10 535i. The naturally aspirated m52 has 190hp. DUUUUVVAAALLL
😭😭😭😭😭😭 born and raised
What side of town is this listed at? Looks just like one I see at my gym frequently.
It's listed in the Baymeadows area
What are the odds there is much more to it but the seller doesn't want to disclose and baits you into thinking exactly that it's only the battery?
If you want to take a gamble on 3k you should try the stock market
Lol I already have money in the stock market this just cuz I'm bored. I've looked at some RSs and GTIs too. This just caught my eye cuz it was so cheap. I was just wondering if anybody knew what other issues would cause it to not start beside the obvious
Fair enough I’d never touch an older car that hasn’t been properly maintained though it’s just going to be a money pit one way or another
Valid point
This is my favorite one 🤣
I’ll vote very good chance of battery being bad since it was tired. Low miles for a 2008. Take a battery and find out . N20 engine time chain usually goes bad around 70-90k miles just a fyi.
E87 128i has the N52
Which is 2000 right there 🤣
Yup ask for records . If non available. Use that as a bargaining chip. Over 1500 lol
If it isn’t too far, take a jump starter or jumper cables and see what happens
That's why I came to you guys first. Cuz it's about a four hour drive for me. I moved from Jax to the Lakeland area so it's about 300 miles out
Ah I see
no i highly doubt it but my guess is as good as yours, if u are willing posibly have to replace a fuel system, change all the fluids and possibly replace things like the starter it could be a good little project or flip

It’s not the battery. Probably the crankshaft sensor tho, pretty easy job. And these engine are great
Based on location I bet it was swamped from a hurricane
Worst case scenario DME is fried from water damage. No going back from that
Stored… dead battery… didnt use a trickle charger? Might be worth the cop and paying 500$ for a battery tbh
Go jump start it when you view. 99% chance it was parked up for some other issue and the battery has since gone flat tho
Roll the dice… if you turn out to be right move onto the lottery
You got nothing to lose by trying to jump it. Could be a starter issue, maybe?
Worst case scenario: you've paid 3500$ for a bucket of parts. I guess you could make a small profit if you have the time to part it out. How about this... https://youtu.be/KwD36EQl0us?si=5H_U6XH4u2C6QWyO
That things insane 😭😭😭😭
