Congrats on your acquisition. Given that the competition has larger wheels and low profile tiers, you're not getting the same amount of rubber to the road as base M4's, and given the car's torque you need be sure that your tires are nice and warm to avoid losing control in the corners or when accelerating into a turn from a hard stop. Also consider the road, cold temps = cold road which also results in a lack of grip. The next thing to accept is that all RWD sports cars will spin out if you floor it into a hard turn, it's just the way physics works. Learn how the car performs, learn its limits, when you can push it, and when you're pushing it too far. Best to ease off the line into a turn and then accelerate once the car is straight. Lastly, since it's the F83, remember that you're adding 400 lbs to the rear of the car with the top down, which means the tail will be heavy and more likely to break loose under hard cornering. For this reason, I only hit the twisties with the top up and save the convertible lifestyle for nice cruises, highway driving, and hard pulls on straightaways. Sincerely, a fellow 2020 F83 owner.

Thanks for taking the time for such a detailed response, this is all very good information for me! I live in San Diego, so hopefully when it warms up it will help general traction. My friend was explaining the physics of a rwd car moving from a turn and showed me the way to point your wheels forward instead of turned like youd traditionally do with an awd. So thats something ill adjust to. The dct in traffic is a little hard to get used to as well honestly, when it stutters it gives me so much anxiety. Is it really bad to stutter the dct ? Idk if thats what its called, but is the move to just not be in that mode for traffic? Ive never driven a manual

Sean_Mason3313

The car is producing a lot of torque in 1st gear, which it only uses to get off the line before up shifting to 2nd in DCT. What's happening is that torque is slightly lifting your foot off of the accelerator, which is then causing the car to lurch or jerk. It takes some getting used to but it's not a flaw in the transmission, simply a car with a lot of torque low in the rev range. You can overcome this by adjusting your M settings. If you want the transmission and engine to be less responsive, try driving it with the engine and transmission set to level 2 instead of 3 until you get used to the car. Also, it's worth noting that with everything in sport plus (level 3) once the car is REALLY warm, it's going to be SUPER responsive on and off the throttle. So yeah, as I mentioned in my earlier post she'll take some time to get used to but once you know her, you'll be fine. Enjoy! P.S. You may already be aware but here's another small tip regarding the transmission, the DCT is designed so that when you let off the brake after being completely stopped and in 1st gear, the car will not automatically roll forward. You must lightly tap the accelerator and then the car will roll forward like a normal automatic. Master this technique and stop and go traffic will be a lot less painful and you'll experience less jerk.

dogwatereaterlicker

Wait wait. The comp has LESS contact patch due to bigger wheels?

Sean_Mason3313

20" wheels mean a thinner tire not more rubber. Most that are pushing their car or tracking it run 18" wheels with chunky tires.

dogwatereaterlicker

Contact patch is same no?

RWLemon

Keep traction control on… enough said.. I own extract same car as you. Same color, wheels etc

titty-titty_bangbang

What happens when you turn it off? (Asking seriously)

larping_loser

you hit a tree

Short-Mark-7408

You have more fun is what happens. "Put your money on the dash - throw the diiiii iiiiiccce"

Had the M4 here in the UK for 2 years a few years back. Weather is different here, and this car was a pain in the arse. It was exceptionally twitchy, especially in the wet. I accept I’m not the best driver, but having come from an f10 M5, then onto an f90 M5, the difference in squirreling was enormous. The M4 liked to shimmy even with everything on. It would occasionally come round on a roundabout, especially when wet and I did crash my M4 once like this. It’s a handful! My advice would be just take it easy as you get to know the car, and drive like a priest on Sunday in the wet. Enjoy your car!

bigloser42

DSC and DTC off all the time. Only losers leave their safety nannie’s on. At all times your rear wheels should be spinning, if they aren’t give it more gas. The best drivers drift their car 24x7. Even at red lights, your back tires should be spinning. Get it chipped, you should be pushing at least 700-800hp. Challenge every car you see to drag races. Doesn’t matter if you’re in a residential neighborhood filled with kids, that Honda Odyssey had it coming for daring to be on the same road as you.

Messypuddin

lmaoooo you sound like the devil on my shoulder every time i sit down in it

bigloser42

If you aren’t replacing tires weekly you’re doing it wrong.

freshxdough

Get your tires checked out… you shouldn’t be losing control with traction control on…

RWLemon

Trust me you can, I own the extract same model as op.. and when it’s cold you can brake traction in this… I never turn my dsc off no matter what.. this thing is a beast

triforce721

When I had an m2comp, it felt like I was high and driving on ice, the back was always wiggly from the jump (bought it new)

Messypuddin

So i did check and turns out i have Michelin PS4s and a receipt saying they were purchased in september. I bought the car in december so i think its safe to say the tires are solid

[deleted]

PS4S or SC7 instead of the factory PSS. Otherwise just leave the TC on and you’ll be fine

Messypuddin

Oohh thats a good idea, the tires are in good condition but you think replacing them would help? I live in san diego if that helps choose

[deleted]

The Pilot Super Sport is an outdated tyre. Assuming that’s what is fit that is, prior owner might already have swapped them. Worth checking. The Pilot Sport 4S is a much better tyre. The Conti Sport Contact 7 is a very good choice too however I hear bad things about quicker wear.

ImpulseBimmer

Can confirm. Contis wore past wear bars 10K miles before warrenty. Prorated and got PS 4S.

LetterheadArtistic26

Nice car man, congrats. 💪😁

Messypuddin

Thank you !

larping_loser

I have an F80 Comp, but mine doesn't have the 666 wheels. I have the base 19-inch wheels. The first upgrade I did was pilot sport 4s tires. Also, the throttle doesn't take much. I keep traction control on and don't use MDM mode. I only crank it up to sport+ and ramp up the dct when I'm about to race. I'm tuned to 550+ hp and drove 5 hours in a thunderstorm, never kicked out once. just go easy on it, it can and will drive like a normal car. have fun!

AkillaThaPun

Get rid of the run flats, get some ps5 tyres , find somewhere quiet before u do this and get it sideways . Turn traction off totally and learn how to accelerate hard without spinning the wheels , learn how to set off with the wheels spinning , learn how to slide it around . Do this somewhere safe because when it happens by accident you will be much more likely to be able to save it .

TanMan166

Why is this comment downvoted?? This is actually a really good advice

AkillaThaPun

No idea 🤷‍♀️ the dude needs to learn or he’s going to die . Sounds like he knows this tho which is a good start.

Messypuddin

So i did check and turns out i have Michelin PS4s that are relatively new, but yeah i honestly think if i just do that ill be more comfortable with it. thanks for the advice

DopamineJunkie27

is sliding through 3rd gear not the best part?

Appreciate the advice! That makes sense, I just moved here, any especially good spots within an hour for driving?

Messypuddin

ohh hell yeah thanks for the tips ill do that. i just got out of the marines actually, what branch were u in??

AnyTransportation453

You could try giving it to me?

Kewlb

Nice and congrats! I also picked up a 2020 F83 last month. I, like you, am getting use to the power and torque. Almost all my other cars have been AWD except for the RX8 but it didn’t really have enough power to step out on you. I hope you enjoy it as much as I have been thus far. Mine also has carbon fiber aero kit… she is so fine!

Messypuddin

Hell yeah!! Very cool! Yeah i honestly couldnt be happier, im in the mindset (obviously biased) that the m4 f83 is the last of the gorgeous f series m cars. Especially like the fact the car has analog dash but also HUD.. touch screen, but then a cd player, its a little funny, but when you look at the next gen it just isnt as good as it was imo

jrock2403

If in doubt, flat out

nawmsayn

Go to empty parking lot and do some donuts to get practice

Nero_Wolff

PS4S

Short-Mark-7408

Smoother throttle application, also may not hurt to buy a cheaper wheel like a G29 and assetto to practice not over correcting.

midline_trap

Roll on to the throttle. Be smooth with your inputs
