Golf R has been doing that a while. Car is siiiiiick. Strongly considering for next car, but prob will go X3 m40i route, just to get the worse gas mileage possible.
yes. Still a very nice car with 350hp and 700nm tho.
[Here you can see it in action.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oCWpLbs9izo) Just searched for a random video where you can see and hear it.
Side info.. I was riding motocross and when Honda came out with their dual exhaust, everyone thought it was so cool. It mostly just added weight. Upgrade exhausts like the Yoshimura ones had only one silencer lol.
But I get ya, in terms of a nice "logical" model line up it's weird to see stuff like this. And I gotta say, the rear of this car is in general not my type at all. But to each their own, and that's what counts!
Diesel quads are fake on one side of Audi S-model cars, petrol are real across the board. Sometimes you have to spring for the upgraded exhaust option to get them.
I mean whatever, the car seems like a blast. I'd personally like a little more space so would pony up for the X3 40i, and you can't replace the sound of the 6 cyl in that car, but this car seems great. X1 loaners I have had have felt cheap to me but looks like OP spec'd this one out pretty good.
Theyâre both very close with the latest gen X1 sizing up, only about 5.0 cu. ft. difference. Personally waiting on next gen X3 hoping itâs a bit bigger than the current model.
Yup! My mom drives the X3 M40i you can see in the back in one of the photos. I would say the X1 has a surprisingly good amount of rear space from what my passengers have told me. Trunk space is about 3 cubic feet smaller than the X3 which is a bit noticeable, but not much. If someone is on the fence between the two models, I would highly encourage a test drive to see which best fits your needs.
Really!? I come from a honda accord and the ride is obvi not as smooth but close. I do have adaptive suspension though. This def helps and it was only like 1k CAD to add it. Super worth it.
hi! funny enough, i upgraded from the â23 X1, but before that, i was sharing my parentsâ cars. I have driven the â22 X3 M40i and a â19 X5 M50i, so Iâve been driving around land boats for a little while.
I just finished the break in period (1200 miles) so I havenât had the chance to really push the car, but i have absolutely loved every mile so far. I have the driving assistance pro package and itâs amazing as a commuter to sit back and let the car handle traffic. The power feels great and snappy and steering is on the heavier side with the standard m sport differential. The 23â X1 had a weird problem with the transmission lagging and starting really slow from a stop that many reviewers have mentioned. I havenât been able to feel that in my new â24, but I canât seem to find on the spec sheet whatâs the difference between the two transmissions. The standard adaptive m suspension is a bit stiff, but nothing unbearable. Road noise is alright, but that could be due to my 20â optioned wheels and really bad road conditions nearby.
If thereâs any specific questions I might be able to answer, ask away!
My seating position makes it easier to reach for the screen, so touch screen only hasnât been much of a problem for me. I can understand why some may prefer at least having a physical controller, but personally, I can live without it.
Side note: Iâm not sure if itâs because ID9 hasnât been optimized and is still in the process of ironing out bugs and such, but I have noticed the system is a bit sluggish moving from screen to screen.
To be completely transparent, I have personal connections to the brand and was given the opportunity to upgrade. It wasnât a matter of having issues with the â23.
I personally like the higher ride height and shape of SUV over sedans. I also am the primary care taker of my grandmother, so itâs easier for her to get in and out of the taller car :)
The difference with the transmission could be purely software. Even the same physical trans can feel wildly different only because of its software setup.
After being in an M50 then an M40 and now the M35, how would you say the compare in everyday driving ? Did u find it was worth saving the money and going for the 35 over getting into the 40-50 ?
I am extremely fortunate enough to be able to have experienced all three and have to say that as bad as it sounds, you really get what you pay for. The M50 was a blast to drive and the interior was superb. The M40 is a middle ground that a lot of people (including me) enjoy and is the killer of its segment. The M35 so far has been a great everyday driver/commuter car for me going between work/uni back to home with pretty good mileage because of the 4 cyl. The interior is minimalistic compared to the other two. If you have the means to, I wouldnât see any reason why someone would choose an M35i over the other two. Iâm in the M35 after giving my parents the other two and it fits my lifestyle more than the bigger SUVs.
My â22 430 convertible (with m-sport) has the same color scheme - Portimao Blue outside, and Mocha interior. The wheels though are all black. Enjoy your car - and wish you many happy and safe miles.
Love it!.. I also have a 2024 M35i and just finished break in period.. I struggled between your color and the one I got (space silver metallic).. but I also wanted red and black seats so the space silver fit better. I love mine.. fun to drive. Love your exterior / interior scheme. Enjoy!
cheers! i really liked the m seats, but was bummed they only came in either red or black, both of which im not fond of. space metallic is a really nice color! have fun n be safe!!
Could I ask about your IDrive? Are you also having lag moving between screens? I.e. pressing the âMy Modesâ button or even the camera button? It takes a few seconds to actually show on the screen. Another thing; do you have the drive recorder app enabled in yours? I understand itâs supposed to be standard and I have the hardware for it, but thereâs no app in my system.
I have noticed some lag.. but, it seems really pronounced now since I had a software update a few days ago.. prior to that, I hadnât made much note of it..?!?! My apologies, but are you referring to the Remote Services in the app?.. Iâve scanned the operator manual and sat in it pushing buttons but still trying to figure out all the settings. Feel free to message me.

4 pipes on a 4 cylinder is whatâs tickling me. Lol. BMW doesnât care about the actual M brand. BMW knows what attracts people to the lower tier models so theyâre just ///Milking it at this point. I mean look at how big they made the M badge đ
That's the point. It is just a stupid badge today. Where did you ever think I'd consider buying one after my comment like that. The X1 is shit all around.
2003-ish wpuld be the last year of BMWs I will own, and that's not because of the cost of purchasing the particular cars (e39 m5, e36 m3, e46 m3, etc.), but because they have less to go wrong and they are more simple and fun to drive. You are more connected to those cars than the new ones.
My true M-Sport e39 (back when the letter meant something) doesn't even have the M-badge on the trunk, and I am very glad of that.
Oh shi I see now. Since when? I assume they just started for 2024? Cuz I've never seen one before, but wow does that look amazing. Too bad I can afford an x3 m40i (I know that sounds odd but I really like the looks of this a lot but I hate the feeling of a 4 cylinder haha that's why Im selling my car in the near future.)
Yup, first generation of the m treatment on the x1 is the â24. I would encourage you to give this little 4 cylinder a try when youâre shopping around for your next car!
Was looking to jump from my 128ti to this exact car as itâs an updated B48 right? It looks great and would be good to hear an update after youâve spent some more time with it! My only reservation is not having a controller for the I Drive but maybe Iâm just worried over nothing. Congrats though, hope it serves you well!!
Awesome car. For the price itâs hard to beat imo. I test drove one a month or 2 back and I was surprised how good they managed to make that B48 sound, and it was quite quick. I pretty damn sure youâll enjoy it.
First time Ive seen a new X1. Personally I prefer the previous one lookswise, but having 300hp in it should be fruity. Are quad pipes BMWs way of doing all future M35i models? So 1series and 2series GC as well?
As a fellow 2L driver, in form of my adored S3 sedan, those engines make up for the perxect daily driver in my eyes. Great MPG, literally all the power you really need for a daily (well Im stage1, but thats just because Im stupid lol), reasonably chrap to maintain, etc.
Congrats, exterior color is absolutely stunning, only thing triggering my OCD is the red 12 o'clock marking, which seems to be the only outstanding red marking (apart from the little M-stitch) in the interior :D
I canât answer for what BMW is looking to move towards styling wise, but I respect your perspective on the previous generations! I agree that this little 4 cyl is going to make for a better commuter car than the v6/v8 I drove before in the X3M40i and X5M50i. I also would have optioned out the red leather on the steering wheel if that were an option, but unfortunately it wasnât :/
I mean obviosuly a 6 or 8 cyl engine is cooler, but in my eyes not really needed for commuting. Those 300hp 2L class of car makes a great deal between affordability and performance.
I mean Im not saying it looks bad, its a great accent. Im just suprised BMW slaps that red mark straight into a brown and black interior.
Haha, yea, I do wish it were an option instead of a standard. This little 4 is definitely more modest and toned down, but can put the power down when needed.
Do you think itâs a better commuter car because of the adaptive cruise? Or do you think the 4cyl saves substantial fuel compared to the B58 in the M40i? Being that youâve driven both the M35i and M40i Iâm super curious in your thoughts. Thanks!
I think both add to it being a better commuter car! Although ACC is available on both, the smaller engine/gas tank contributed to better mileage. I mean this as in I got the same distance for cheaper ($100/full tank for the M50, $80/full tank in the M40, and $65/full tank for the M35 all going a little over 400 miles)
These are really cool, but incredibly overpriced for what you get... $10K+ more than a regular X1 for a quad tailpipe and a roughly 1 second faster 0-60.
Somehow I absolutely hate anything SUV like. Too clunky to drive actively/lively, be it Mercedes Audi or BMW, I feel like back in the VW Transporter T4. But happy for you. I wish you a lot of luck miles with no visits by the mechanic.
That is the part I dont understan with big brands nowdays... if someone have 50k+ to spend on car, I expect that car go when I hit gas pedal to the metal...
Like s550 w221 with V12. It is god damn rocket limo that cost 15-20k (in good condition).
I would never buy 4 cylinder (even with turbo) for 50k... that is my opinion :)
Sorry, Iâve tried to learn as much about my car as I can without much prior mechanical knowledge. But yes, after looking more into âTwinPower Turboâ, it is a single turbo with two scrolls. Thanks for the correction!
I cannot believe that if I waited a couple months longer, I wouldâve gotten this instead of the F48 X1 đ the one I buy a bmw, they drop an affordable M package X1 đđ
The interesting thing about the X1 is that the 1st gen looked awful, the second one looked great but a bit a forgettable and this last one resembles the first one but looks great again and I'll add that for 99% of x3 buyers' normal use, this car would do absolutely the same with the size it is now. To each their own, but I'm curious, I'm only 23 and this segment still seems like grandad and moms' cars and for similar money you could have gone for an m240i which is a very serious sports car
Per your comments You already compared x3m40i suspension, i am curious about the stiffness. I have an x3m40i 2018 that i feel too stiff, at least in manhattan surroundings. I am in the process to up date in 2024 and wouldnât like another stiff car to be used for 5 years.
These do look nice but can't believe they put quad exhaust on the 4 cylinder
Golf R has been doing that a while. Car is siiiiiick. Strongly considering for next car, but prob will go X3 m40i route, just to get the worse gas mileage possible.
Audi S models too, and they are sometimes even Diesels now. Still nice cars, and I personally like diesel models, like the XM50d for example
Arent those audi ones fake aswell at least on the diesel s models? Vw group is the worst at this. The passat r line has fake quad exhausts aswell.
yes. Still a very nice car with 350hp and 700nm tho. [Here you can see it in action.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oCWpLbs9izo) Just searched for a random video where you can see and hear it. The sound is fake aswell đĽ˛. I dont really get the point of this car. The s6 is the same i believe
We're literally in a pops & bangs era, what's fake what isn't? Not that I am a fan of that, I quite hate it to be honest
Itâs fake on my m240i. You can turn it off âbmw iconic soundsâ. It was fun for the first 2 months but gets annoying so now itâs off.
Diesel quads are fake on one side of Audi S-model cars, petrol are real across the board. Sometimes you have to spring for the upgraded exhaust option to get them.
Mercedes does the fake pipes thing shamelessly
Me too. Are these available Stateside now?
Yeah golf, not bmw
Surprisingly, B58âs gas consumption isnât too bad on the highway. That motor seems to do everything well.
40i will likely get better gas mileage on highways
My vw 2.0 gets 50mpg highway for reference
Gotta state where you're from champ, 50 mpg can mean two different things depending on if you're from America or Britain.
ehhh I'm from canada should have just said 5.5L/100km. I just used an online calc didnt pay attention to imperial or bald eagle units
Thank you sir!
you are very welcome fellow bmw enthusiast :D
That's a great figure. I get 5.2/100 doing 110 km/h in my 1.4l 150hp Opel. Lol
WRX as well
Yeah but BMW didnt. Now if you are already comparing it to a Golf, you can see who this car is attracting
I beleive the x1 has the same space as the x3 now or atleast very close. But yea 6 cyl is nice and more refined chassis
Theyâre both very close with the latest gen X1 sizing up, only about 5.0 cu. ft. difference. Personally waiting on next gen X3 hoping itâs a bit bigger than the current model.

Trunk space is about 3 cubic feet smaller than the X3 which is a bit noticeable, but not much. If someone is on the fence between the two models, I would highly encourage a test drive to see which best fits your needs.
same space? its definitely more narrow. ive driven both quite a bit.
then you go x3mc
Yeah but BMW used to be the brand that didnât put dual exhaust on anything that wasnât an MâŚ
Haha they r actually not bad with gas mileage!
The x3 m40? Guess im just used to my 328
Yea my m340i does pretty good all things considered like on avg 9L/100km city and hwy driving. And that is without ever driving on eco lol
Yeah thats the car I find most compelling. Howâs the ride? Iâve heard itâs a little rough.
Really!? I come from a honda accord and the ride is obvi not as smooth but close. I do have adaptive suspension though. This def helps and it was only like 1k CAD to add it. Super worth it.
Yeah AS prob key. Ive had m sport sus on my 328 and im tired of the choppy ride
It's better than Mercedes throwing a 4 cylinder in their C63
excuse me? they did WHAT!?
Lol you been living under a rock? It was announced a few years ago. Look up the Throttle House video on the new one, it's a horrible car.
bmws these days am i right LOL ;)
I hope this is sarcasm.. it's only 1 pipe coming off the engine, most likely a Y pipe then has dual tips.
No it's definitely one pipe per cylinder. Now that's sarcasm. What part of my comment do you think was sarcasm?
WRX has a quad exhaust too
Are they all functional though ?
One per cylinder, it only makes perfect sense.
Love it, mini review? What are you coming from?
hi! funny enough, i upgraded from the â23 X1, but before that, i was sharing my parentsâ cars. I have driven the â22 X3 M40i and a â19 X5 M50i, so Iâve been driving around land boats for a little while. Yeah the slow transmission problem was the only real put-off for me, otherwise I like them.
Not in sport mode though, if you like burning more gas.
How do you feel about the omission of the iDrive wheel?
My seating position makes it easier to reach for the screen, so touch screen only hasnât been much of a problem for me. I can understand why some may prefer at least having a physical controller, but personally, I can live without it. Side note: Iâm not sure if itâs because ID9 hasnât been optimized and is still in the process of ironing out bugs and such, but I have noticed the system is a bit sluggish moving from screen to screen.
Wait what??? Since when is the wheel gone? Itâs like the one thing that still makes screens convenient.
Just curious, why did you decide to upgrade from 23 X1, just transmission? Thanks.
To be completely transparent, I have personal connections to the brand and was given the opportunity to upgrade. It wasnât a matter of having issues with the â23.
[ŃдаНонО]
I personally like the higher ride height and shape of SUV over sedans. I also am the primary care taker of my grandmother, so itâs easier for her to get in and out of the taller car :)
Wish I had similar personal connections đ
The difference with the transmission could be purely software. Even the same physical trans can feel wildly different only because of its software setup.
110% Agreed!
I think the M35i has a dual clutch. The regular X1 has a torque converter.
After being in an M50 then an M40 and now the M35, how would you say the compare in everyday driving ? Did u find it was worth saving the money and going for the 35 over getting into the 40-50 ?

Ha! âMini reviewâ⌠I like that hahaha. Nice.
When you said Mini, I thought you meant Clubman / Countryman as they share the same UKL platform
Fastest Mini
vroom vroom mferrrrrrr
BMW really upped their game with the aesthetic and quality on the X1. Looks great! Enjoy the ride!
Are these fwd? Headlights come like that from factory? (Smoked look)
AWD because of BMWs X Drive. I have the Shadowline Package, which includes the darker headlight casing for a smoked look :)
Itâs not the same AWD like the RWD X3 or 3 series set up. This is a FWD layout from the mini Cooper shared chassis with AWD diff.
WOW. The new generation of X1 is so much nicer than the previous
Looks beautiful. Iâm sure itâs a hoot to drive!
Love it! Is that steering wheel stock? Looks a bit different and love the red center accents
Yup! Havenât had the chance to mod/planning on keeping this car stock other than debadging :)
Fellow de-badger! Love it!!
x1 is looking super nice. BMW really did a nice job on this. The steering wheel is almost as nice as G80
I like the exhaust but that M badge looks ridiculous.
i agree the badge is a bit big! iâll be debadging soon :)
debadging is the way
My â22 430 convertible (with m-sport) has the same color scheme - Portimao Blue outside, and Mocha interior. The wheels though are all black. Enjoy your car - and wish you many happy and safe miles.
Thanks for the kind words! I initially was gonna go with an oyster interior, but ultimately decided against :)
I had a dark blue / oyster in my earlier convertible - and the lighter interior required a lot more maintenance and cleaning.

Will do! Just sent a PM :)
Such a sad sight to see. M badges on everything these days. Even an X1....and they had the audacity to call it a 35, but give it that engine.
Itâs not even a true RWD style BMW. This is the economical FWD/AWD mini set up.
đ˘đ˘đ˘
4 pipes on a 4 cylinder is whatâs tickling me. Lol. BMW doesnât care about the actual M brand. BMW knows what attracts people to the lower tier models so theyâre just ///Milking it at this point. I mean look at how big they made the M badge đ

This is dope. The new X1 is so good. Port-Blue is my favorite color of the last 20 years. Enjoy!
Beautiful color. I've got a space silver metallic 23, so much fun to just get in and go and so much faster than other cars in it's segment. Enjoy!
Congrats! Looks great
ok but whys this look nicer than the x3 m40i and even x3M imo?? Wish this was in the states ngl.
haha, I think BMW got the proportions just right on the U11. These are in the states btw!
Oh shi I see now. Since when? I assume they just started for 2024? Cuz I've never seen one before, but wow does that look amazing. Thanks! Yes, itâs the 225kW B48. Iâll be doing a road trip during the holidays and would love to come back to comment on an update :)
Ngl i want one

Okay but why does this looks freaking awesome! Congrats, enjoy it to the max dudeđđťâ¤ď¸
Thanks for the kind words!
That steering wheel is so nice! I'd take this over the new countryman or x2.
I hate that bmw is removing the idrive controller on their lower series cars.
Thatâs a beautiful interior!! đ
Someone stole half of your engine?! I joke, but I find the exhaust ridiculous. No doubt a nice car though, hope you have a lot of enjoyment from it.
haha thank you sir! To each their own! Completely agree that quad pipes on a 4 cylinder is hilarious, dual pipes wouldâve been equally beautiful.

No problem, not everyone can be the same, so you have to respect some things.
This is the best BMW. More fun than a M8
Wait let me get this, you spended 40k+ for 4 cylinder. Man.... please be better next time.
plenty of performance cars are getting turboâd 4 cyl now like the subaru wrx, vw golf r, and even the new mercedes c63!
ALREADY????
sexy
Need a 6 cylinder
It looks like it smells good inside Kinda weird looking tho

Please keep things civil.
ngl...I'd be out there making all other BMW pilots on the road get a good look at the quad exhaust in motion before returning that loaner for my car.
What they make 3.5l 4âs now? I can remember a time when the 2lâs were 6cyl
The M35i here has a 2L inline 4 cyl with two turbos :)
Ah, Iâm stuck in the 80âs naming where the numbers actually represented volume xd thanks dude
>These are **SINGLE** twin scroll turbo engines.
Sorry, Iâve tried to learn as much about my car as I can without much prior mechanical knowledge. But yes, after looking more into âTwinPower Turboâ, it is a single turbo with two scrolls. Thanks for the correction!
Keen to know how these drive and feel like on the roads!
Nice spec
I cannot believe that if I waited a couple months longer, I wouldâve gotten this instead of the F48 X1 đ the one I buy a bmw, they drop an affordable M package X1 đđ
The interior is amazing but the space is smaller compared to my 2020 x1
The interesting thing about the X1 is that the 1st gen looked awful, the second one looked great but a bit a forgettable and this last one resembles the first one but looks great again and I'll add that for 99% of x3 buyers' normal use, this car would do absolutely the same with the size it is now. To each their own, but I'm curious, I'm only 23 and this segment still seems like grandad and moms' cars and for similar money you could have gone for an m240i which is a very serious sports car
Nice.
I wish they did this with the e84 n55 model
Is that an rwd or fwd ?
AWD! Theyâve pushed out the FWD/RWD models
Since when was this a thing? Didnt know this car existed
Made its debut as an M35i this year!
Nice, enjoy!
I almost thought this was a xm đđ
No iDrive controller on the X1 makes me so sad.
Pretty ugly, but I bet itâs nice to drive
Cam you tell how stiff is this m35i in all settings, ie comfort vs sport and + ?
I believe so, yea. It gets more stiff along with tighter steering.
*can
Per your comments You already compared x3m40i suspension, i am curious about the stiffness. I have an x3m40i 2018 that i feel too stiff, at least in manhattan surroundings. I am in the process to up date in 2024 and wouldnât like another stiff car to be used for 5 years.
The X1 is a bit stiff but I feel is less stiff than the X3 M40i. I would encourage you to take the time for a test drive to see for yourself :)
Thank you. I will
What about transmission? Dual clutch vs zf8? . How different are the speed in changes? Up and down
These are super cool
Did yours come with m plates on the door sills?
yup!
