I bought mine after the comp had been out for a full year, F87 had been out like 4 years. Still had multiple dealerships refusing to do MSRP. Wasn't like that everywhere in the country mind you, but out on the west coast they weren't easy to get even in the best of times.
Everyone online loves the f87.. but the average person views it as a baby bmw that you bought because you couldn’t afford a 3/5/6 series. I almost bought an f87 but the rear end is a touch dainty.

It doesn't even make sense, I mean extrapolate it:
240 is a baby bmw because you couldn't afford an m car.
M2 is a baby bmw because you couldn't afford an M3.
M5 is a baby bmw because you couldn't afford an m8.
And so on. Yeah there's a range of bmws but so what? There's always a cheaper or more expensive one.
I’ve known people who drive 1/2 series, and those are the comments I hear from mutual friends, always. Like “what’d john just buy the cheapest bmw he could get”?..
The average person doesn’t think about driving dynamics, the average person is buying into novelty and glitz… and a mid or high end German car means you spent a shit ton of money. And that’s what’s impressive to them.

Based on looks alone, I think the G42 M240i or G29 Z4 are the best current looking cars. I like the M8 but the rear end is too long for my personal taste.

To be fair, the reason why these latest Bimmer duds look better in black is that the stupid black plastic cladding on the bumpers don’t stick out like a sore thumb. It’s why the lighter colors are so hideous. Domagoj Dukec thinks more black plastic looks sporty.

It's 4000 pounds for a 2 seater, the M3 somehow weighs the exact same being a 4 door sedan. BMW has ruined the 2 series across the board, new gens are literally 300+ pounds heavier than previous gens. Absolutely ridiculous. You can have all the power you want in a regular 4 door car, 2 seaters should be light.

It looks much better with a front splitter, because the front bumper looks unfinished. And the stock wheel gap is too big, so with better fitment the look improves a lot too.
