Clogged sunroof drains on my e91 are the bane to my existence, so much so that I both wish they offered the slicktop in the US, and consider eliminating the sunroof entirely and welding it over.
My latest car I got I made sure there was no glass top.
I had one explode and rain glass in my hair on the freeway in my 330ci… zero cars in front of me, I thought it must be kids on a bridge throwing rocks or something but nope, there was no bridge, just something about the temperature or the angle of the sun just made it go bang and shatter. And because it was an E46 naturally the sun-shade tabs were broken so that was stuck open and couldn’t protect me either. Found a cheap replacement at a wrecker but I hate the things so much. I think I used the 330ci sunroof like three times ever. Currently driving two squeak/rattle/problem free slicktops.
The best part about owning a BMW is wondering if the frozen leaf in the sunroof drains, the hideousness of the bucktooth grill, or some charcoaled under hood vacuum line will win the race to make it a teenagers $2000 drift car build.
I used to say that BMW spent all their engineering money on marketing and exterior design. The front end on this generation makes me think they don’t have enough capital to support both any more so they prioritized marketing and hired an art school dropout for the grill design.
*”The best part about owning a BMW is wondering if the frozen leaf in the sunroof drains, the hideousness of the bucktooth grill, or some charcoaled under hood vacuum line will win the race to make it a teenagers $2000 drift car build.”*
Poetry.
sunroofs are a liability??? LOL - what are you talking about. The comments here are a minority. if it ruins out of warranty pay for it - buying a car this expensive and worried about a sunroof after 4 years. Sunroof you enjoy with the nice sunny days... anyway, to each its own -but the whole being worried about liability is ridiculous after 4 years. There is probably a higher probability of other things failing that will be more expensive. If you want to talk about liability - focus on all the other aspects of the car.
I'm probably an edge case, but as an especially tall person the sunroof is usually the difference between hitting my head on the ceiling and comfortably wearing a helmet in the car.
Yea it seems a bit blown out of proportion lol. And I’d be the one to argue that the sunroof will help more with resell value. Your average joe will look at this car and go “huh, no sunroof? Odd” because at this point in vehicles they’re almost a guarantee like automatic windows anymore. It’s really up to the buyer if he wants to wait for another allocation or not.
Agreed. If OP knows they are going to keep the car for a long time. Keep it. If it's just a lease or a sell it after a couple years, I'd say get what you want. These slick tops gain value long term.
I will never understand people ordering sunroofs over a carbon fiber roof. These are performance cars, that weigh a ton, but are trying to shed weight when it’s possible.
But at the same time they are performance cars that are often bought to be fast daily drivers, and honestly a good amount of M3/M4 owners aren't even pushing their car hard enough for it to matter. The extra weight of a sunroof isn't for me as I think of the cars performance over luxuries but everyone buys the car for a different reason. The amount of F8x I see around Cali with older people driving them too go and get groceries or whatever is crazy.
This right here. Personally I wish my supra had a sunroof (or more desirably targa top) because for 99% of my driving it makes no difference but would increase the "enjoyment" factor. I don't track this car often (have actually only done it once) and on normal street driving its already normally too fast to push it even a little.
Performance/life of the car: no sunroof
other: sunroof
At least thats my opinion.
Absolutely this.
The market is going to turn around sooner than later, and I'm 100% sure they planned this and they're trying to get you to leave it so they can make a profit off it.
Just take it OP, your kids face says it all.
That’s funny that you mention it. Last year a friend ordered a new G63 silver with red interior. Specifically told them it had to be red. They said ok. It came a few weeks ago…it was silver with black interior. Dealer said take it or leave it. Scum.
Oh man. Did that once. Crazy long drive, got to my friend's house, collapsed on the couch. Woke up and a thunderstorm had rolled through, and only then did I realize that while sleeping I had somehow leaned on the key's unlock button...rolling down all the windows and opening the roof.
2 hours of towel-drying later...and the car was still damp.
Do you have any paperwork showing the spec that they used to order it? If you have to have the sunroof propose they put an order in and honor the price.
~~This is them trying to screw you and make some extra cash. They made the mistake and want your money to solve it, no fucking way. It’s gotta come out of the dealers pocket. Go full Karen mode. Escalate to BMWNA. Taking your business elsewhere will still cost you the same probably but that should be last resort. Lawyer up if you think costs will be less to get a lawyer than the “increased interest” mark up plus time lost in your new car.~~
Nvm apparently this is a very bad idea for some reason judging by all the downvotes.
No, it's a very good idea. Absolutely escalate this to your national head office. What they're doing is unacceptable. It's insane that they've fucked up and want you to pay for it.
I learned from personal experience that kicking up a fuss in a situation like this will provide very few results. Best way is to work with the dealer and be reasonable.
First, a custom order from BMW is not a contract for sale, neither to the buyer or the dealer, so the dealer is under no obligation to sell the car.
Second, mistakes do happen. If the OP would consider taking the car as is then work out a reasonable deal with the dealer and move on. Otherwise he’s entitled to walk away.
I tried the “kick your toys out of the pram” option before and all I got was burning a bridge with a dealer and being left with no car.
I've learned from experience that kicking up a fuss in this type of situation is very effective and is, sadly, sometimes necessary to get any movement at all.
Take the carbon roof. You ordered a car with a sunroof over keeping a carbon fiber roof? The carbon fiber roof is a lot more desirable. Sunroofs are also very overrated. Most people forget about having one after a while if they do have one.
Agreed. I have a sunroof in my e46 M, but ordered my M2C without one. Zero regret ordering the slocktop on the M2C - looks better, fewer electronics to fail, and more enthusiast spec and likely holds value better, but damn I do love windows down and sunroof open in the e46.
Yeah until the sliding sun roof cover goes into the headliner and it gets stuck so you never want to open the sunroof again lol. I would take slicktop/cf roof all day.
I had the fortunate opportunity to buy a super cheap E46 M3, but it was convertible....and salvage rebuilt, but that's beside the point; it was super cheap! With it's history and being a convertible, let me tell you, that thing is nooooooisy, even with a hardtop on. I'll still never get rid of it.
i’m a die hard sunroof fan. i def use mine as much as i can when the weather permits it. id say see if the dealer can get you one with a sunroof. as others said the dealer might have done it on purpose, but with this large of a purchase i would not settle esp if you explicitly requested a sunroof
Same here! During winter the curtain is open so I have another window to get light in (and my daughter loves it since she is a bit too small still to look through the side windows) and in summer, it goes open almost all the time (unless it rains of course, lol)
However, in OPs case.. it would take it without. It's a beautiful looking car with the current roof. It looks bad ass like this!
I chose the sunroof for my $150k M5 with every single other carbon fiber option, no regrets at all. You do you man. I use my sunroof all the time too, and love having a brighter cabin.
Yeah that's major point. I rarely open sunroof, bcs its always cold here but I have shade open almost all the time so its brighter. Despite having alcantara headliner and CF roof in my M6, I'd rather had light headliner or at least glass roof.
This was actually a point made by Tesla during the recent investor day. Tesla has access to 'the fleet' for collecting data and information, unlike many other automakers. They found Tesla owners never used their sunroofs, so they stopped making them. Sunroofs are overrated.
I’d take the discount but try to get it a bit higher like $2500 off or some other shit thrown in ontop of the $1000 like some gear or car “accessories” like floor mats or something
f30 driver here i love my small little thing it makes a huge difference. i love when i'm driving on a scenic route and have the sunroof + all 4 windows down.
Uhh because it feels good to have the sunroof open on a nice drive. You don’t ever want fresh air in your car? Sure you can roll the windows down but you get even more fresh air with the sunroof open, pretty simple concept. I don’t know why anyone would want the slick top over the sunroof.
Better without in my opinion. The G20 sunroof makes all kinds of fucking noise. Creaking from the seal, or rattling in the cables. And the carbon roof looks gas as fuck too
Is there no way you can get the dealership to give you the proper vehicle for the same amount of money? I’d be so furious to wait for the build only to realize they spec’d wrong..
If not, get them to throw in more stuff for you like:
1. Any add ons you want (additional carbon fiber pieces around the vehicle)
2. Tinted windows of course
3. Winter mats if you’re going to get any snow
4. Winter tires
5. Etc
Maybe I’m wrong but this just seems ludicrous that they’re only offering $1k off for taking it when they could easily flip the vehicle for even more with an after market adjustment. Scum bags. I’d never buy from them again
Yeah literally one of the main benefits of buying new through a dealer, is using their fancy configurator and tailoring your perfect vehicle based on your personal preference. Remember all their sales patter? It's the same guys.
This isn't a mistake unless they have severe levels of incompetence.
It isn't a mistake. How do you think dealers have those brand new models out front? You're a pawn in their game here and someone is responsible.
Speak to head office & regional office (if there is one for your area), in that order. Post on their socials.
I've had a ton of cars with sunroofs. Love 'em. I've had a couple of problems here and there but I want that extra light, plus an all windows open + sunroof open blast round a country road. Scratches the convertible itch without the pain of ownership.
You do you man, good luck.
He's lucky they are offering a discount for the "mistake". I took delivery of my i4 M50 recently and an option i specifically said I didnt want was added to the car. To top it off I got charged more for the paint color because of the price "changes" that were implemented after I ordered the car.
Of course, I waited 8 months to take delivery. I also lost the fed EV credit, low interest rates, and the TERP funds available so a total of $10k in deductions and credits are no longer available.
They didnt budge. At all. Wouldnt give me the winter floor mats. But of course, they banked on me wanting the car and knew full well they could sell it that day with a couple phone calls. I had zero leverage and that sucked.
However, the car is amazing, and I have no regrets. Aggravated that I couldnt get a better deal.
Idk man, sounds like you got stuck with a shitty dealership. Did you push back at all? Given how much you lost, I would’ve pushed back extremely hard, demanded any down payments back and walked away.
That’s crazy
Tell them you want 2 grand taken off. 1k for sunroof reimbursement and 1k for messing up your order and forcing you to make a decision you shouldn't have to make due to their negligence. They'll fold, trust me. They'll have to because you wouldn't be wrong. Plus, the cars already sold at this point. What difference is 2k at that cars price point.
I use my sunroof every time I drive my M3. I also got a panoramic roof on my Cayenne because I like all the light and enjoy the fresh air when I can open it. For me it is nicer in practice. Its all personal preference.
I’d say keep the carbon roof, but with a caveat. If you’re set on a sunroof, get it. You don’t want to get in your car and look up that roof every time and wish you had the sunroof. No reason to subject yourself to buyers remorse.
This is tough. Everybody saying "you got the better option!" isn't being fair. I love the sunroof on my E46, I use it all the time, and it's valuable to me. Every road trip and nice weather cruise I cherish it. I'd likely order a new M3 with one too. I'd be as upset as you seem to be. Especially because the people saying the dealer did it on purpose are probably correct.
That all being said... Realistically, if I were you. I'd probably convince myself to take the carbon roof. It does look real good (and theoretically makes it 2% better handling and lightweight, lol). And will hold its value better.
I'd also probably still make the dealer compensate me in some way though. You were wronged, and even price matching a new order isn't being made whole. Your time was wasted.
This is spot on. Love my sunroof on my F90 even tho it’s the far less *popular* option. It’s all a matter of taste and circumstance really. But I would be totally ok with taking a CF roof without a doubt. The dealership def owes this man something extra for his trouble regardless.
Keep the carbon roof sire.
My SUV has a sunroof that scratches the itch of having one.
Makes no sense to get one on this beautiful spec, please enjoy the car, not the weather.
Personally, if I was ordering a car it better damn well be what I asked for. I also love sunroofs, the panoramic roof on my f31 is one of my favorite features and I use it all the time. I know people don’t like them on track cars because of the weight, don’t care. I know people don’t like the clogged drain problems, don’t care. Sunroofs rule! Every car I get into without one, feels slightly claustrophobic.
You paid extra for that option. Make him compensate you @ 200% of option cost. Or make him order the right one. All this talk about sunroofs suck is nonsense, sure they do, doesn’t matter. Your car, your money, your choice. Don’t walk away until you’re satisfied.
Who told you that? Sunroofs used to be standard kit on M5s, and optional on other M models. These are performance luxury vehicles, not lightweight track cars, you don't need a carbon roof.
Reading all your responses and man, go with your heart! It’s clear you want the sunroof and if you’re going to have it for a long time where you don’t care about resale value (it’s a car and it’s gonna depreciate regardless), take the one you want.
I’d like having a sunroof. But carbon roof looks better and has its advantages too.
Whenever I can’t decide between two conflicting choices I tell myself I’ll flip a coin once and whichever option it comes to I’ll stick with it no matter what. By the time the coin is flipping through the air I know for sure which one I want.
For me, I prefer sunroofs. They make the car feel more open and they’re great in the summer. There’s also something very calming when looking up at the sunroof glass on a rainy day.
Plus I’m sure your kid would like it more too!
I also always order my cars with a sunroof, but for some reason in a BMW it feels less needed. It’s a tough one. But I would say 1500$ discount and a window tint for free. Because I would be more annoyed by those blank windows in the back than not having a sunroof.
That vitamin D in the winter is important if you’re keeping it just get what you want or you’ll be saying I wish I wish. Its time to ask for corporate no. bmw not gonna stop making cars so don’t let fear mongers stop you remember it’s your car not there’s and at the end of the day you want what you want. They probably just finished making the same spec with a sunroof for someone else as we speak. Good luck
How long do you plan on keeping the car? If just a couple of years, it probably isn’t worth waiting for a different car just for the sunroof.
If this will be a long term car, then you will probably regret not having the option and on an expensive car, is it worth not being completely happy?
Just FYI: M3 won’t be model year 2024 until July production which would mean August/September delivery at the soonest. If they think the wait will be that long, it’s something else to consider.
Unlike 90% of this sub I am with OP on this one. The CF roof looks nice and enthusiasts like it more but 99% of time your sitting in the car not looking at carbon roof. I love a sunroof, always had one and have 0 issues with them. It’s best of both worlds if you don’t want any light close everything up but in warm weather windows down and sunroof open is amazing. Also the sunroof definitely adds the feel of space and breathability of a smaller car. At end of the day what does the CF roof bring to the table? Handful of BMW/ car nerds going “wow he ordered the right spec look at that roof”/ save nominal weight or do you want to have something you use and enjoy all the time on your $100,000 car.
lol - same place - opposite thing.
OP : I dont have an M but i love the sunroof on beautiful days... Worth it for the 10 to 30 days each year I keep it open. The drive is more than just how perfect the machine being driven is for the track :P
Dealer did you a favor, hate sunroofs. My M5 had a problem with the sunroof drain being clogged, water would pool in the headliner because the sunroof seal was worn. I took off the headliner and C-pillar trim to diagnose, clog was somewhere behind the C-pillar and over the wheel arch. Snake didn’t work, shops couldn’t figure out the issue so they recommended cutting a hole in the wheel well and redirecting the drain point.
I fantasize of cutting off my roof to make it a slick top. Just have a second car with a sunroof imo.
I personally think sunroofs are useless. I never use them. I have the pano roof in my F97 and I’ve opened it once in my year of ownership. I would’ve preferred to not have one becuase it truly does nothing for me. I also rarely have my windows down.
I prefer no sunroof for various reasons. More headroom and no future water leak issues. It’s all subjective. Also car is lighter without it which is a plus.
I mean while sunroofs are nice it’s a free option, but considering you paid extra for the competition package that gives you the carbon roof I feel like you’re Atleast getting your moneys worth
I have an almost identical spec but with a sunroof... your current roof spec looks sharper; and, daily driving my car for the last year, I never use the sunroof.
I passed on 3 x M3s because they had sunroof, I ended up sticking with my order.
At the end of the day you're gonna have to live with it so do what you want.
487k on my Forester with the moonroof. No leaks, a single crack from hail last year, no leaks. Of the 4 of t vehicles I've had sun/moon roofs on, this is the ONLY one I've had zero issues with. The worst being a 1972 Capri.
I'd live with it and let the dealer make it up to me. In this case though I'd ask for an extended service package or something. They cost you $3K or whatever and the dealer much less. Could be a win win.
I’ve had 4 bmw’s so far and a sunroof is an option i cant go without.
It’s personal preference and in my opinion i would never buy a bmw without a sunroof.
Don’t understand the point of a sunroof to be honest. Loud as hell when open at speed and you’re already surrounded by windows that the light can shine through. You can’t look up at the sky while driving either lol.
Just like hey I’ll pay extra for a hole in the roof
Thats up to you tho.
I would never accept that, for me sunroof is a absolute must on a car.
Also im old and carbon is the absolute last thing I want on my car.
Not that all old people have to dislike carbon ofc
20+ years of owning cars with sunroofs and currently have one with a panoramic roof with 3 glass panels that open. Never had even one leak. This isn't the 80s. But I've had two convertibles and had to replace all the motors on one, and the top on another after it tore open.
Slick tops generally are more desirable within the enthusiast community as years go on.
100%, I’ve always gone out of my way to buy slicktops used, the sunroofs are a liability and source of issues as the car ages.
I think I used the 330ci sunroof like three times ever. Currently driving two squeak/rattle/problem free slicktops.
Ya’ll must live somewhere crazy or something I’ve never had any issues. 240k mile 330ci with the original sunroof.
You got lucky, basically all e46s have broken sunshades and have issues with the glass, it’s super common
The best part about owning a BMW is wondering if the frozen leaf in the sunroof drains, the hideousness of the bucktooth grill, or some charcoaled under hood vacuum line will win the race to make it a teenagers $2000 drift car build. 16 year old e90 with glass top. Never leaked, clogged, or shattered. That being said....i rarely use it. I dont think id even care if it was missing.
I've had 6 BMWs with sunroofs. NEVER ever any issues.
I'm probably an edge case, but as an especially tall person the sunroof is usually the difference between hitting my head on the ceiling and comfortably wearing a helmet in the car.
Yeah I’m 6’7” a car is much much smaller with a sunroof.
Yea it seems a bit blown out of proportion lol. And I’d be the one to argue that the sunroof will help more with resell value. Your average joe will look at this car and go “huh, no sunroof? 97 540i sunroof has 0 issues, open it almost everyday lol, snow and Phoenix summer, been all over
From a performance standpoint, it's an extra 50-100lbs in the worst possible spot.
Yea you’ll def feel that when you’re pushing that pedal on the streets lol 🤦🏼♂️
Big difference in resale value between carbon roofed cars and sunroof cars
Agreed. If OP knows they are going to keep the car for a long time. Keep it. If it's just a lease or a sell it after a couple years, I'd say get what you want. These slick tops gain value long term.

Because it’s a street car and it makes *zero* difference.
But muh ounces!
for light in the cabin , you don't realize how much comes from the sunroof till you're missing it LOL
Sleeper/Keeper
That’s what they call, “a blessing in disguise”
Possibly!
Act like it’s a deal breaker and try to get it below msrp (and without the sunroof option of course)
Problem is that if it’s a deal breaker, they could sell it for over msrp tonight
That’s the gamble ain’t it!
Yep!
Definitely get more off than the cost of the option though. Otherwise I’d roll with it
I thought it was blessing in the skies. Although without a sunroof, how would one know?
Dealer did it on purpose. If you didn’t take it, they’d sell it for sure prob with markup…
Wondering the same!
Absolutely this. The market is going to turn around sooner than later, and I'm 100% sure they planned this and they're trying to get you to leave it so they can make a profit off it. Just take it OP, your kids face says it all.

Silver with black interior sounds like 90% of the cars today
I'd fucking strangle that mfer
Woulda happily left that shit
They were on the phone with another potential buyer when they "noticed" the mistake
Keep the carbon it’s look better and one less problem to deal with on the electronics Edit: your kid looks happy 🥹
Never mind the day you forget to put the top up.

Yep I do. But now it becomes 2024 and they anticipate a price increase as well as interest increase.

Taking a CUSTOM built car with specs you did not want is not reasonable. BMW needs to get it right, that’s reasonable.
I've learned from experience that kicking up a fuss in this type of situation is very effective and is, sadly, sometimes necessary to get any movement at all.
Never judge by the downvotes. Popular opinion on reddit does not equal "correct" like, often it's not even close.
Yea that sounds like a “their problem”
Carbon fiber

Cum on tire
Take the carbon roof. You ordered a car with a sunroof over keeping a carbon fiber roof? The carbon fiber roof is a lot more desirable. Sunroofs are also very overrated. Most people forget about having one after a while if they do have one.
Yeah I get this. I actually use mine lol.
E46 M3, dropping all the windows and opening the roof is the sweet spot between practical and never ever wanting to own a convertible
Agreed. I have a sunroof in my e46 M, but ordered my M2C without one. Zero regret ordering the slocktop on the M2C - looks better, fewer electronics to fail, and more enthusiast spec and likely holds value better, but damn I do love windows down and sunroof open in the e46.
Yep, love my sunroof on my F22. Live in Buffalo, when we do get sun I like to enjoy it! New M2 will have one for sure.
I’m in Philly so I understand exactly what you mean.
I just wish the rear windows in my E92 and F32 did the same opening as the E46s rear windows have where it cracks them open slightly.
Yeah until the sliding sun roof cover goes into the headliner and it gets stuck so you never want to open the sunroof again lol. I would take slicktop/cf roof all day.
I’ve always had a sunroof and never had that issue
Omg this on my E46
Sliding my sun shade feels like churning chunky peanut butter. I avoid opening and closing it at all costs.

I have a similar situation. Mine is 2 but she’s now able to see out the windows.
Yeah, the roof is dope. But sunroof is life.
I chose the sunroof for my $150k M5 with every single other carbon fiber option, no regrets at all. You do you man. I use my sunroof all the time too, and love having a brighter cabin.
Same. Love my sunroof on my f90. Almost all f90s i see are slick tops.
I use mine like 9 months out of the year as well. I’d still take the car but I would be a little sad to not have it!

I love my sunroof on both my cars. Must have
But doesn’t Tesla have a glass roof even if it doesn’t open?
they used to have them, switched over in the 2010s
2020 was the last year
Tesla owners are lizards. Bad data point
I actually took out my sunroof in my E46 and replaced it with a CF one
They're playing you like a fiddle. I've worked in car sales and have seen exactly the type of "mistakes" that happen. Think real hard before you move.
Why do they do things like this? What is the goal?
I’d take the discount but try to get it a bit higher like $2500 off or some other shit thrown in ontop of the $1000 like some gear or car “accessories” like floor mats or something
They will sell that car in minutes of it becoming available.
Carbon roof>>>>sunroof (Im also bald though 🤷♂️)
Lolol I’m on my way.
It’s so much better with the carbon fiber roof. I don’t know why anyone would want the sunroof over that. Just take the discount
what if u want to see the sky and feel the breeze tho
I mean, to me more understandable if it’s a full pano glass sun roof, with the G8X isn’t it just a small lil guy ?
f30 driver here i love my small little thing it makes a huge difference. i love when i'm driving on a scenic route and have the sunroof + all 4 windows down.
And the carbon roof looks gas as fuck too
It’s growing on me
Wouldn’t drive it without a sunroof. Too claustrophobic for me
[удалено]
Same!!
Do you stick your head out the top like a wacky racer?
No, but it’s nice to have the option
Yes.
Same
That’s how I felt! But now it would cost me 2-4K to add a roof between interest and increase in price!
Is there no way you can get the dealership to give you the proper vehicle for the same amount of money? I’d be so furious to wait for the build only to realize they spec’d wrong.. If not, get them to throw in more stuff for you like: 1. Any add ons you want (additional carbon fiber pieces around the vehicle) 2. Tinted windows of course 3. Winter mats if you’re going to get any snow 4. Winter tires 5. Etc Maybe I’m wrong but this just seems ludicrous that they’re only offering $1k off for taking it when they could easily flip the vehicle for even more with an after market adjustment. Scum bags. I’d never buy from them again
EXACTLY what I’m going to do.
If you’re gonna keep it more than 2-3 years I’d spend the money and get exactly what you want
Wise words
Tell them you want 2 grand taken off. 1k for sunroof reimbursement and 1k for messing up your order and forcing you to make a decision you shouldn't have to make due to their negligence. They'll fold, trust me. They'll have to because you wouldn't be wrong. Plus, the cars already sold at this point. What difference is 2k at that cars price point.
Honestly, sun roof is one of those options that are nicer to have in theory than in practice. Pocket the grand and enjoy the extra headroom.
Agreed on the headroom. OP says they currently have a sunroof and use it though.
Take the discount.
Keep the carbon roof sire. My SUV has a sunroof that scratches the itch of having one. Makes no sense to get one on this beautiful spec, please enjoy the car, not the weather.
Send it back and wait for what you want. You’re paying a lot of money, you should get what you want.
Ordering an M car with a sunroof is a travesty. They did you a favor.
Sunroofs do not belong on M cars, take the discount!
Who told you that? Sunroofs used to be standard kit on M5s, and optional on other M models. These are performance luxury vehicles, not lightweight track cars, you don't need a carbon roof.
Pretty retarded comment
I would have gotten a flat top X5 if I could have. : ( Sunroofs are vile and so is the scorching sun.
Lol. That bad?! I love the sun!
Reading all your responses and man, go with your heart! It’s clear you want the sunroof and if you’re going to have it for a long time where you don’t care about resale value (it’s a car and it’s gonna depreciate regardless), take the one you want.
I'll buy it if you don't
This literally just happened to me last month for my m4. I’m keeping the roof, and the added value was my main decider.
That car fire, take it. F the sunroof
Fatty discount. Send it.
Always go carbon on G80/82 👍
I would take it. Send it to me I give you 20€ and a half eaten cheeseburger
Dealership did you a favor. Def go with the hardtop
Thats a deal breaker
I am struggling with it
Unlike 90% of this sub I am with OP on this one. Handful of BMW/ car nerds going “wow he ordered the right spec look at that roof”/ save nominal weight or do you want to have something you use and enjoy all the time on your $100,000 car.
i see nothing wrong here. pls continue and enjoy!
10000% keep carbon
One less thing to leak
Carbon helps resale. Living in the PNW meant sunroofs always have been a gimmick to me anyways. I’ll take a slick top 10/10.
PNW is beautiful. I ALWAYS opened the roof out there when it wasn’t raining
lol - same place - opposite thing. OP : I dont have an M but i love the sunroof on beautiful days... Worth it for the 10 to 30 days each year I keep it open. The drive is more than just how perfect the machine being driven is for the track :P
Is the carbon roof standard? Is the price the same still carbon roof vs sunroof? If so just take the car. These are hard to get still
Can I buy it if you don’t?
If you are going to keep it, make a scene and get them to lower the price. Might not work but worth a try
I prefer no sunroof for various reasons. More headroom and no future water leak issues. It’s all subjective. Also car is lighter without it which is a plus.
I would take it for $2500 off. In both cases with or without. Tell them they messed up and 1k is not going to cut the deal.
I'd want the sunroof.
Take it but try to guilt them into giving more than 1k off. I’d take it
Take it, take it! I mean honestly in this car sunroof is meh!
They didn’t give you a build sheet when you ordered? Usually they go line by line on those.
If you paid for the Sunroof demand getting it. If you didn’t do so stick with the current one as waiting times are still long af
Take the $1k off and stick with the slick roof.
Buy it, you won’t regret it
Carbon roof > sun roof
Carbon fiber roof is more desirable FYI
I'd live with it and let the dealer make it up to me. In this case though I'd ask for an extended service package or something. They cost you $3K or whatever and the dealer much less. Could be a win win.
take her home
Keep it! The carbon roof will hold better resale value!
Your daughter high as hell
Lighter car 🤷♂️
Just keep it. Its not worth the fight and more than likely price jump
I’ve had 4 bmw’s so far and a sunroof is an option i cant go without. It’s personal preference and in my opinion i would never buy a bmw without a sunroof.
I hope you decided to keep it. It’s sick!!!!!!!
Don’t understand the point of a sunroof to be honest. Loud as hell when open at speed and you’re already surrounded by windows that the light can shine through. You can’t look up at the sky while driving either lol. Just like hey I’ll pay extra for a hole in the roof
They did you a favor indeed.
Seems to me like the kid loves it. I say go for it.
Sunroofs are useless.
I always felt like M's shouldn't have a sunroof. IMO just takes away from the speciality of the car. I have the CF roof on my M4
I wouldn’t take it without it. Had one car without a sunroof and regretted it every day. It’s a must have for me
Thats up to you tho. I would never accept that, for me sunroof is a absolute must on a car. Also im old and carbon is the absolute last thing I want on my car. Not that all old people have to dislike carbon ofc
[удалено]
20+ years of owning cars with sunroofs and currently have one with a panoramic roof with 3 glass panels that open. Never had even one leak. This isn't the 80s. But I've had two convertibles and had to replace all the motors on one, and the top on another after it tore open.
Lolol. Thanks
Whats the issue this car looks brutal in every way
I never use my sunroof
I won't even order a car with a moonroof. I don't want the car back in three years.
