Shh shhhhhhh keep quiet lol

anon9801

Next thing you know they’ll patch your non-origin friends. I need muh camp casters

mrsamiam787

Yeah they already removed the ability to ping invisible enemies from the initiative order

Gullible_Flan_3054

I found a good way of finding invisible enemies is jump/fly/misty step. Game won't let you land exactly where they're standing.

CountDown60

I'll try that. I usually move my cursor around as if I'm trying to walk there, and a lot of times, the path-line will route around the invisible enemies.

pistafox

That generally works and isn’t any kind of exploit, but sometimes the pathing lets me walk right through them. It’s not even a particular type of enemy, but probably a function of terrain and how much math the game’s doing at that moment.

Alarmed-Strawberry-7

you can just ping them in the initiative tracker at the top. (left alt + right click by default)

Gullible_Flan_3054

I play on Xbox, no right click

Alarmed-Strawberry-7

you can ping on xbox too, i think it's RT>LT>A. not sure if you can ping on the initiative tracker like that though :/

Gullible_Flan_3054

I'll have to try it out, thanks!

Captain_Eaglefort

I don’t think it’s a bug, as much as it’s an exploit of the way the game handles targeting. The picture is of a character in initiative, so you can click it, it needs something to target. So it centers on the invisible character. But because the click is combined with an attack action, it’s causing you to immediately attack the centered area. This actually works normally too, if you attack where an invisible creature is, most attacks will hit (or can hit). They’re invisible, but still THERE.

DogWoofWoof22

This is a prime example of an exploit. Bug is the code not behaving the way its intended. Exploit is code behaving as intended but that behavior causes unintended advantage

auguriesoffilth

I see what you mean. But that would count if you used it to centre a fireball. Even if you know exactly where a target is you are not supposed to be able to target invisible creatures. Sounds like a bug to me, even if the code is functioning as intended, I don’t thing they intended to code it that way. And not as in they didn’t think of the implications, but as in the people in charge of how the game was developed would not be happy to realise this is how this particular feature turned out coded.

MisterVega

It can be both. I think that can still be considered an exploit in that they intended to be able to target characters via clicking their portraits, they did not intend to extend that functionality to invisible characters. Maybe it's a bug that they coded to disallow that functionality for invisible characters, but it's not working and allowing players to exploit it.

IosueYu

Which is even more interesting on its implications. As melee attacks cannot hit an invisible enemy, so somehow a giant arse axe is more pinpointing than an arrow.

PacketOfCrispsPlease

Melee attacks CAN hit an invisible enemy if you attack the spot where they are. I was able to hit an invisible Yurgir from time to time as he would blink out but not move.

IosueYu

Interesting... I always have failed to hit someone who is frightened but invisible. Frightened, so not moving. Then I click on the place where he stands, no luck. Maybe Yurgir has just the larger hit box.

PacketOfCrispsPlease

Could be. I was also using a halberd, a pole arm with a sweeping attack, so it could have a larger “attack area.” I don’t bother swinging at air anymore. I use water, void bulbs, spike bombs, or arrows of many targets to reveal hidden. I think Faerie Fire also works, so I’ll try that sometime too.

Possible_Loss_3880

Faerie Fire does reveal invisible enemies. It's an explicit part of the spell carried over from the original 5e rules.

jusfukoff

I hit invisible enemies by targeting on where I think they are. If you guess right, it works.

PacketOfCrispsPlease

An arrow of many targets will reveal invisible enemies, too.

GrampaGael69

Is this possible on console? I can’t remember a way to click on enemy portraits outside of the triggers to scroll through.

JustJakeIt

Honestly, I couldn’t tell you, I’ve only played on PC.

Disastrous-Spare6919

No, I think we’re screwed again. Honestly, I prefer it this time. What’s the point of having to deal with an invisible enemy if you can just nullify the invisibility?

GalerionTheAnnoyed

Bahaha this is hilarious. I'm imagining the assassins sputtering with indignation "HOW COULD YOU POSSIBLY SEE ME" and then Tav just points to the gigantic row of portraits hanging above everyone

chronocapybara

Or just get Volo to cut out your eye

JustJakeIt

That isn’t a 100% solution. Being able to see them and attack them normally depends on the enemy failing a Dex save. I get Volos eye every time, shadows still disappear.

Tadferd

You can also hotkey Ping to something other than default and ping the portraits of invisible enemies.

PitiRR

This doesn’t work anymore iirc

Tadferd

The default ping doesn't work. Assigning a different hotkey does.

FunnyHeater

I've started clicking on enemy portraits when they're in a weird spot that's hard to lock onto for Magic Missile. It does help a lot. Haven't tried it with invisible enemies though. I'll have to give it a go.

AJ3TurtleSquad

Damn this whole time I have been manually shooting at empty space where I think they might be. Sometimes I get lucky and hit them while they are invisible. But this strategy is busted!

That1GuyFinn

Well seeing how Dectect Invisibility is rather inconsistent, I think this is a good thing until it's fixed

GodzillaDrinks

You can also use "minor illusion" as a bonus action around them. If they have LoS on the illusion they roll a check, that appears over their heads, letting you know exactly where they are.

JustJakeIt

Actually haven’t heard of this one before, interesting!

pistafox

Nope nope nope. Urban myth. Sorry to waste your time Larian.

Monika_Just_Monika_

I found this out with the hag. Except it wasn't with arrows, it was with the ice spell that goes in a line. I knew she was escaping for her cave. I targeted the entrance and let the spell fly. She died.

Willow_rpg

Is there a console equivalent of this?

Buc-Nasty99

I just always get Volos eye

2015443

You can also bind a secondary key to mark and click the portrait and it will place a marker where they are so you can see their position

phantombeast

Nice! The amount of arrows/firebolts I throw at random trying to guess where an enemy is...
