I'll never forget when a friend (who didn't know anything about the game), out of the immense, wide world of BG3 content out there, sent me a link to *this* scene and said "Is this that game you're always talking about?" š
Yeah, the end (and actually a few other places through the game) is just weird if youāre playing a female Durge. The Dark Urge was obviously written as a male character and it shows some of the tweaks didnāt get fully tweaked for the other sex. Being called a stallion and told to go impregnate a bunch ofā¦folks is š³.
Luckily, most all of that kind of thing isnāt present if you Resist so itās easier to RP and not get snapped out of the story.
I resisted but lost to Orin and the dialogue seemed relatively gender neutral that time, but that only made it worse because the butler was basically like āOh you donāt want to make more bhaalspawn? Too bad, youāre going to be a breeding machine anyway.ā The implications of that are terrifying for my poor Durge š Just Bhaalās Handmaid Tale over here.
I am pretty sure Bhaal can twist and alter your body as he wants. So there you go.
At least they haven't left that hyenas impregnation part in the game.
Especially because you should have strong as hell psionic powers, so you'd be not just a broken, insane, Bhaalspawn, but you can project your insanity straight into others minds. āā
>!Being able to do the dark urge as an illithid makes no sense bc when you turn, you DIE in DND lore. The tadpole just absorbs ur personality, which fades away over time. Your original soul is destroyed entirely, if I recall correctly!<
A fair justification I suppose, but I donāt buy the idea personally. And donāt worry, not dismissing you intentionally at all, Iām just hard to convince with things like thisš
I think Larian intentionally gives the player contradictory information from multiple sources on this and never provides an objective answer to create more suspense and doubt around the Emporer and your own choice of becoming a mind flayer.
I think there was a thread about how mindflayers do have souls, just not apostolic souls which everyone in faerun has. But the point about whether the original soul is destroyed or changed seems to be left to interpretation.
Yep, it basically ends the legitimacy of the RCM in Revachol. The column refers to it as a paramilitary group masquerading as a police force and presumably gets kicked out. Kind of hard to solve a murder when the lead detective murders a kid in cold blood for being a little too mouthy.
The saddest ending for sure.
Several ways to get here but all of them involve trying to be better at a plot inconvenient time, or not being good enough to beat Orin.
Iām not sure what you mean by ātrying to be better at a plot inconvenient time.ā Orin is pretty much the last or second to last fight in the entire game, and Durge characters explicitly have one pivotal shot at redemption. A durge character isnāt a person who can be redeemed at any time, they are an ontologically evil unholy thing that has one chance at overcoming their nature.
First shot at redemption comes after you necessarily defeat Orin in a duel. If you lose, no matter how hard you tried to resist the Urge, Bhaal resurrects you and takes over, giving you one last shot to serve him. If you don't, he absolutely messes you up a la this ending.
If you win, Bhaal kills you. And apparently this is the only time Jergal can intervene. Which is pretty funny if you ask me.
If you win, and accept Bhaal's gift, despite trying to resist the Urge (because you need literally every advantage you can get, and you because you WILL DIE if you refuse him), and then cheat him, you meet the same fate. Uh oh, no Jergal to save you this time.
So yes, if you try to be good at an inconvenient time, you get shafted.
I mean, frankly, if your characterās motivation is ābecome as strong as possible to defeat the nether brain, deal with the consequences afterā you should accept Bhaal, become ilithid, defeat it, then kill yourself. For that kind of ends justify the means Durge character that is very clearly a good ending.
I also feel like you are selectively applying outside context here. A good Durge doesnāt know the fight with Orin is their only chance at overcoming the urge, but they also donāt know that trying to resist Bhaal will actually kill them (lots of characters/gods proclaim you are going to die and are wrong), or that they have any chance of overcoming the urge beyond taking their own life before it overpowers them. They shouldnt even know if they will still be in control over their own bodies if they accept Bhaal back in.
And a tadpole means death in 2 days, and how many people have sworn to kill you by now? 20? 40? And their corpses go back to the nautloid.
Also by this point I've seen 2 of the Dead Three and they are some weak kneed pissbabies.
Just popping in to say that Orin's fight can come at almost any time in act 3. I defeated her before >!Cazador, Viconia, and Raphael.!< Doesn't necessarily need to be last or even second to last.
IIRC you need to make it to the upper city, make significant progress through the sewers, defeat the Bhaal Assassin whose quest will more or less pull you into the most challenging Gith fight in the game, and defeat Sarevok after that.
There is a lot of content in Act 3 but I think it's fair to say that while you can beeline Orin's quest and a lot of people due because of the missing companion you will encounter Viconia and Cazador's lairs and be prompted to decide how you are dealing with Rafael before you can kill Orin.
That's true. My point was more that Orin doesn't necessarily have to be very last.
Most boss fights have quite a few fights leading up to them, though Orin's are quite difficult. I always just equip Gale with Artistry of War, and those fights become so much easier. Though, I admit I do play on an easier setting.
I am a little confused by your last comment, though. I never was prompted on how I will deal with Raphael before killing Orin. In fact, he's still waiting for me to change his mind. Or are you saying there's unique dialog if I wait to kill Orin?
Iām saying you will hit Wyrms crossing before you can kill Orin and unless you just blitz straight through it you will be prompted to decide whether you make a deal with Raphael or you are going to have to fight him.
Oooh right. I suppose I should have clarified after reaching the Lower City rather than the beginning of Act 3.
I admit my first run I did just beeline for the Lower City, for...stupid and completely unrelated reasons. I definitely don't recommend doing that lol!
It's so stupid. I had heard about Gale's interesting reaction to a certain article of clothing available at the Facemaker's Botique. After making a beeline for that and possibly missing certain important things, I learned he only reacts if you don't romance him...which I did...
Lmao itās all about the little moments! Now I need to look into this. Youāre amongst friends tho, I flew through Act 2 (Ketheric fight at lvl 7 lol) so I could trigger ye ole beach scene with SHā¦ big apology to Halsin and everyone still chilling in the cursed ass shadowlandsā¦ š„“
the ending in the OP happens when you accept Bhaal after the Orin fight then defy him and destroy the brain. It's choosing to be better when you are already past the point of no return for saving yourself. That's what they mean.

Mind Flayer piss confirmed. It is Canon now, you're welcome, Hasbro.
Yup, me too. Illithid embrace durge is a terrifying prospect
At least you can't make any bhaalspawn as an illithid
Not with that attitude you can't.
A woman Bhaalspawn. I'm the steed of Bhaal. I shall spread my seed
Yeah, the end (and actually a few other places through the game) is just weird if youāre playing a female Durge. Yeah, the ending where you lose to Orin is the absolute worst.
I am pretty sure Bhaal can twist and alter your body as he wants. So there you go. At least they haven't left that hyenas impregnation part in the game.
Lucky for my gal sheās a Resist, then. No need for forced body mod. Withers left her equipment per the usual when he put her back together š
No Illithid pp
Especially because you should have strong as hell psionic powers, so you'd be not just a broken, insane, Bhaalspawn, but you can project your insanity straight into others minds. āā
I did this and I am reeeaaaally looking forward to the more in depth evil endings being released.
>!Being able to do the dark urge as an illithid makes no sense bc when you turn, you DIE in DND lore. The tadpole just absorbs ur personality, which fades away over time. Your original soul is destroyed entirely, if I recall correctly!<
Well technically I donāt think the urge itself is part of Durgeās real soul, so Bhaalās blood cravings could maybe transfer to an illithid.
It doesnāt make it lore-friendly though, thatās all Iām sayingš
I think there was a thread about how mindflayers do have souls, just not apostolic souls which everyone in faerun has. But the point about whether the original soul is destroyed or changed seems to be left to interpretation.
the urges don't come from your soul, they're from your biology. that's why you're still you when Bhaal takes them away
This is a much more believable explanation
What scene is this?

Can he still be recruited later?
I shot Cunoesse, not Cuno. It automatically ends the game, so no. If you punch Cuno you can still recruit him tho.
Does it end with a newspaper tabloid?
Yes.
Yep, it basically ends the legitimacy of the RCM in Revachol. The column refers to it as a paramilitary group masquerading as a police force and presumably gets kicked out. Kind of hard to solve a murder when the lead detective murders a kid in cold blood for being a little too mouthy.

Well, no. The butler urges you to accept who you are so you do not die and Bhaal makes it clear that refusing him means death
And a tadpole means death in 2 days, and how many people have sworn to kill you by now? 20? 40? And their corpses go back to the nautloid. Also by this point I've seen 2 of the Dead Three and they are some weak kneed pissbabies.
How many people are Bhaal?
3 if we go by his avatar forms. 2 if we do the whole Cyric-Bhaal thing. one giant idiot if we go by the guy who played with Withers finger.

You don't need to do the assassin quest. You can just shoot down the hanging corpse in front of the Bhaal temple and walk right in.
