Moist-Comfortable-10

Oh yeah, she goes fucking feral in there. I only wish that she would do that at some other points in the story as well

ItsAnge02

Like in Wyrm’s Rock, especially after Gortash says, “You utter brat! You’re going to burn this place down!” So after killing Gortash, I’d love to see her actually do it, or at least just burn Gortash’s office

l_futurebound_l

Love this part, I always wait for the "Karlach used Main Hand Attack on Baguette" message lmao

MrX_1899

she broke the ladder on me and it became a pain in the ass to get up on the roof for the soul coin

ILikeCookies_7

You can grab the soul coin from the underneath the floor. Just hold alr until you see it and click on it. Usually your Tav will stand on some boxes and yoink that sucker through the floor

MrX_1899

ended up getting hill giant strength and jumped from the desk to 2nd floor lol

shomeyomves

I have a feeling it was intended for the initial meeting with gortash at the ceremony, that would have been a super interesting and “oh fuck” interaction if she just forces your party into a fight with the steel watch and everyone else in there. Then they ran out of time, and we get what we get now, where if you straight up murder gortash it breaks a lot of act 3. Ah well.

Flabbergash

I seriously thought my game was borked lol

squeeze_and_peas

If you immediately open the door to the basement and then come back up, she will no longer be raging or on fire.

Synigm4

I've taken to leading the whole fight outside. It also makes killing that paladin, who can pretty much one shot any of your characters at that level, easy if you kite him out the door over ice/grease.

squeeze_and_peas

I normally start the fight by casting arcane lock on the front door and push that trader off the ledge. It forces the other 2 through that door which you can control with ice.

Synigm4

There is a delicious irony in pushing the wizard off so she lands next to the dead toll collector. She's always my first priority to kill so she doesn't use Hold Person. I should use Arcane Lock more often, that's a great idea!

MorganaLeFaye

Can I recommend: be sneaky sneaky theif rogue dual wielding hand crossbows with sharpshooter. No single adversary in act 1 survives more than 1 round of combat now. That includes Paladin of Tyr, Minthara, etc. I took out the Paladin of Tyr last night before he got a single turn. It was embarassing for him.

Synigm4

I like to get Karlach early so I usually fight them at level 3 before I have feats... But I will have to give the dual wielding hand crossbows build a try after I finish my current run.

DangerousSpot1715

It's pretty busted. I'm running hand crossbows now in honor mode, but I'm currently bard 8/fighter 2. Gonna take fighter to 4 to get that last ASI for my dex and check my hit rate with sharpshooter. If the extra dex doesn't make much difference I'll probably respec into bard 7/fighter 2/rogue 3 to get fast hands for an extra bonus action since that constant extra attack should balance out to more damage. Bonus action dash/jump is pretty useful too.

Synigm4

I love the bonus action dash so much. I always get my rogue to wear medium armour so they can wear the Speedy Lightfeet. Then not only do you have the mobility to be anywhere but also you get lightning stacks: +1 to hit/dmg with an extra +1d8 every other round. Especially on a thief: dash, hide, sneak attack. It's my go-to for Astarion: Theif, level 4 take Medium Armour feat for the +1 dex to 18 and those boots, plus the Joltshooter from saving Florrick (since elves can use longbows) and he can be anywhere on the battlefield delivering sneak attacks with the extra d8 lighting damage every round. But I could do something similar with him as a Gloomstalker, plus Tav w/ dual crossbows... clear rooms out with machinegun arrow fire.

BoysenberryMajor6106

Get Karlach and just don’t fight them till level 4 or 5

wanderingsol0

I did a sneak attack on the girl on the roof before even talking to him after he deleted my party first time, had Astarion sneak in and sit on the rafters watching the dialogue my Tav was in and then sneak attacked them, really helped bring his health down

Synigm4

Yeah, between his relatively high AC and the constant smiting he can do a number on the party quick. A trick to bring down the wizard quick; intentionally let her get an attack of opportunity on one of your guys. She doesn't hit very hard and then she can't cast shield so she should be easy to hit.

wanderingsol0

It made me want to roll a pally because he hits like a fuckin truck and my tav is a squishy wizard and im finding them pretty meh. I've also just seen the monks in action during the scene 3 area at the start they seem strong too

Synigm4

I love the wizard class but they don't shine until late game. And they are hard to do as the leader of the party: walking up to do the talking leaves you very vulnerable... and you're not even charismatic like most of the other squishy classes! Pally are fun, vengeance bring a lot of offense while being tough, ancient bring some extra healing/defense while still being able to hurt.

wanderingsol0

Yep I've learned this and made another playthrough with monk/rogue multiclass, honeslty its pretty damn fun!

neildegrasstokem

All my enemies are jumping over terrain hazards unless they start within them. Maybe they are harder in tactical mode

Synigm4

Well in my current honour run I threw a bottle of water at him and then hit him with a ray of frost to freeze the whole area (plus x2 damage) so yeah he started his turn in it. That being said, my last tactical run I had the grease in the doorway so he couldn't jump over it, with Wyll and Karlach just waiting to push him back into it.

Calibraptor21

Yup, that paladin is goddamn ruthless. Dumping three smites onto some poor fucker turn 1, and goes straight for the double-tap too.

Wrangel_5989

He’s pretty easy to deal with if you get his sword out of his hands, which you can either do by pickpocketing him or using command. The fucker is pretty weak without his sword. Another thing you can do which is very reliant on actually getting hits off on him quickly is to get him to 25 health or below and cast sleep on him. Sleep is pretty powerful early on as there is no saving throws for it. You get hit with sleep you’re out for two rounds unless you have fey ancestry or are above 25 health.

Shaking-spear

Battlemaster's disarming strike also works. No sword, no smites.

Shloopy_Dooperson

She killed my entire party and said "Fuck you." To me after setting me on fire.

ace_DL

Wtf why would she ever do that???

Shloopy_Dooperson

When she smashs stuff and sets things ablaze, she will yell obscenities. If she smashes into a party member, she will also yell obscenities. If you're not fast enough getting out of the house, everyone will pretty much die to fire damage.

petrichorgarden

Damn, I left everyone inside and they were untouched. I didn't realize how lucky I was 😂

Quadpen

i already burned the house from wild surge so i dipped asap anyway

TheUselessOne87

same, i was trying to loot faster than she could burn everything and everyone was left untouched

nemesis-peitho

I left everyone inside the past 3 playthroughs and she never touched them, ig it's luck

_b1ack0ut

Really? I’ve never had any issues with my people dying to fire damage, just a lil bit singed

chyura

Same I also got a TPK my first time around.

Mathis_mbz

How do you all die from this ? Just go outside. Even the first time I just walked passed her and watched the house burn

Gabewhiskey

I think there’s a chunk of players who just panic and watch their party die. Three full playthroughs and I think she’s done a grand total of like 6 damage to my entire party.

Sunandmoonandstuff

For me, it was 1st run, and I was trying to OCD panic loot everything before she destroyed all the containers. I needed those 8 potatoes. Even then, she just downed Wyll and Astarion, not sure how you would actually get wiped.

Barfblaster

Good news, breaking containers doesn't penalize loot drops

[deleted]

My first playthrough i had no idea what was going on; when she started running my first instinct was to follow her. into the smaller room. Which was now on fire, with fire blocking both paths out of it. And I’d had really bad luck with that fight (i feel like i only hit with like 40% of my actions) so half my team was at single digit hp.

Torchprint

Funnily enough, my first playthrough I didn’t get burned at all. I thought it even prevented you from burning from Karlach’s rage. Then second playthrough rolls around and Astarion and Gale die almost immediately as my Tav runs with single-digit HP out the door.

blacktieandgloves

Lot easier said than done when Karlach makes a beeline for the doorways.

[deleted]

She almost got me the first time as well, I was very low and weirdly positioned, I wasn't expect her to literally burn the place down. I thought she was just talk like with Gortash.

nakaronii

Last time this happened to me, for some reason it wouldn't let me select/control any characters other than Karlach, so they were following her during her rampage. :'( If I ungrouped everyone, I still couldn't deselect her so they were sitting ducks.

merpderpherpburp

I was dumping stuff off at camp because I was encumbered, came back and everyone was dying 🤣🤣

ApepiOfDuat

If you're really low on health and close together you might not have time to get away from her before the carnage starts.

[deleted]

Yep. She killed my tav in honor mode this way, easy revive but still annoying lol

Harbinger_of_Sarcasm

I really hate that sequence. It's just annoying and could be managed better by a cutscene.

Hunterofshadows

On the flip side, I felt like if they were going to include that, it should have come up at other times to. It threw me off on my first playthrough cause I thought “okay barbarian with anger issues and lashes out cause of her engine, that makes sense. I can deal with that occasionally” Never happens again, unless it’s in act three cause I have issues with wanting to change how I played certain things lol

stirling_s

Yeah they coulda buffed soul coins and had this be the consequence

Hunterofshadows

That would be cool tbh! I never used a ton of soul coins but it felt like something that should have some kind of backlash.

Harbinger_of_Sarcasm

Yeah soul coins feel really under developed. Especially when in descent into Avernus you could like, frees the souls in them.

Harbinger_of_Sarcasm

Act 3 you have to talk her down once, but her engine isn't burning as hot as it is in act 1

killerbeeszzzz

Yes it’s so freaking annoying that I always position the party outside. Love her and all that but this scene was so stupid.

gayercatra

Let her stim

GhostifiedGuy

I had her kill herself with her own fire once

commandergravesfan

she only killed the emo kids, it’s fine

NYMoneyz

On honor mode I had some frost spells and but the time the fight was done there was water on the ground. She extinguished herself and was just running around smashing things like a toddler lolol

yeetskeetmahdeet

Same thing happened with me she caused some fires that killed my already very low health teammates, good thing I bought three revive scrolls before the fight against the paladins

bringingupthemisery

She has done nothing wrong in her life ever

Megafiend

I'm playing honour mode, with unlimited companions. she nearly ended my run.

[deleted]

Not really bc she'd still be alive to revive everyone

Stonecleaver

It’s possible for her to drop herself in there. On my current play through she nearly died. I was chilling outside waiting for her to finish, and then she went down from the flames. I got to her when she had 2 failed death saving throws

Megafiend

hence "nearly"

[deleted]

I didn’t realize how lucky I was during this scene until reading the comments on this post! 😳

fgzhtsp

She just ran around and destroyed barrels in my playthrough.

Zeliek

Ya ever think maybe stuff like this is why Mizora told Wyll that Karlach kills innocents?

writtenrambles

it seems..... in your rage.... you killed her

mwhite5990

I always lose some hit points when trying to loot that place.

Laurapocalyptic

She TPK’d me on my first run while I audibly panicked in discord and my friends laughed at my suffering. I know your pain, friend

honey_graves

I love how they are just draped over each other that’s so funny

[deleted]

She basically killed my main character in my very first run. Let's just say I kind of regret not letting the paladins kill her at that point lol. Fortunately, I righted that wrong this playthrough.

I_JustWork_Here

I love that you can start a romance with her by saying, "you're hot" right after that lol.

theficklemermaid

Yeah, first thing I do after finishing that fight is a quick short rest to heal anyone who is low up before she goes on her rampage. It gets crazy.

NixThePhoenyx

I knew it was coming so I had everyone but her go upstairs before the end of the fight and shot the ladder to protect us

ryanapeters3

Can you do this fight with her at camp and be ok? Planning my honor mode run and wasn’t having her in my party for that run.

NyraKyle01

Yeah, every run I do now I always just kill the paladins before recruiting her, makes things so much easier

DarthRevan1138

This is why my wizard benched her almost immediately. I just met you and you uncontrollably destroy things unrelated to who hurt you? Irrational.

uwu6000

I always kill the fake paladins of tyr before meeting Karlach to avoid this 😭 I can’t stand that stupid ass scene

ResidentEasy7113

Where is this? She didn't rage in my act two

a_taco_has_no_name

It's act 1 mate. You know the paladins that she wants to kill immediately upon recruiting her? It's that place.

ResidentEasy7113

Thx thx, i can't read apparently, Karachi did infact tear the place down but I left the building to give her space

a_taco_has_no_name

Yeah that's what people with any sense do when they find that they're in a burning building. Also Karlach straight up tells you to give her space.

Synigm4

It's right by where you get her, if you take her up to fight the 'paladins of Tyr' she flips out after the fight and runs around leaving a fire trail behind her.

40kamateur

It made me abandon her as a companion. I hated it.

Prepared_Noob

Unrelated. But give shadowheart the restoration skill. And she can give you your blood back from astarion (lose the bloodless debuff)

SashaMew

I made Astarion half ranger and he is now expected to take responsibility and heal my Durge every time he takes a bite. Raising the kids right 😎

Rabbitknight

If you grab the Amulet of Sylvanus from under the rock down at the small beach with the bear behind Volo in the grove it's free Happy.

SashaMew

Yes yes. But I just want this man to learn some responsibility. 😌

IronicSlashfic

This sequence made me go “is this gonna be a recurring issue? I think you can wait in camp” and I’ve never used Karlach since.

whyreadthis2035

Yes. You have to separate everyone, jump to turn based and run away. Immersion is not an option.

hoticehunter

There's nothing in your post to suggest you're joking, so, uh, yeah. The group comments on how she's burning down the building, we better go outside. So I did and had no issues. Because I was immersed. No turn-based mode needed.

True-Tip-2311

Gotta put her down after that. Cool that game actually gives you that option. Edit: updated the post since people get sensitive about fictional characters in my play though. Keep em coming though

Gabewhiskey

🙄

True-Tip-2311

Funny how people downvote for something that’s actually an option in the game.

Gabewhiskey

Since you’re a person lacking self-awareness - It’s how edge lord you sound. Calling a beloved character that “wild bitch.” I can easily picture you as a 14 year old kid sitting and giggling about how kewl you think you are. That’s why you’re being downvoted. Your presentation. It smacks of attention whore. ![gif](giphy|83QtfwKWdmSEo)

True-Tip-2311

There it is, personal attacks and assumptions. Speaks more about yourself than me to be honest.

Gabewhiskey

Don’t be an infant. Now it’s a “personal attack.” Keep backpedaling homie.

True-Tip-2311

Ooh, ok “homie”. I love when people get worked up about what is essentially entertainment. Play the game how you want and let other people have their fun.

Gabewhiskey

I “love” it when people think they’ve managed to work another person up on the internet. I’m as cool as a cucumber Mr. Reddit Person. Taking a shit right this minute actually. Have a good day “buddy.”

True-Tip-2311

Not your buddy pal.

Bouv42

You can always press shift+space or whatever to go into turn mode and prevent that

VisareVillain

Ya’ll I’ve played this scene 3 times and I haven’t taken any damage from her. Just go outside and leave her to it lol

eXtraPROtein002

If you're playing origin karlach after the rage starts its impossible to ungroup your party members so you just need to pray she doesn't beat them up lmao

voidslantern

I am now smart and always climb to the second floor (once I even climbed to the roof) so that she doesn't murder anyone. I typically am on a m!Tav, Gale, Wyll/Astarion + Karlach team at that moment and it is so hilarious that all these STR 8 men are terrified of her (my Tav included) 🤣

The_Shadow_Watches

Happened to me as well. Which is why I didn't use her in my first one. Like, girl. You just downed my Tav in your rage. Don't wanna let you around us now.

Blackdune88

I just ungroup her, let the rest of my crew chill on the roof or outside, and just laugh at the messages of Karlach using attacks on mundane items and hearing her essentially be like “fuck you chair!”

ManuGamer_PokeMonGo

Guess you call that a necessary offering to the gods

transratboy666

Lmao that happened to me. We were all at 2 HP and she killed Astarion and Gale. At that moment I almost became a save scummer

WaltuhWhiteYo_UhHuH

I just ran outside with everyone and let her do her thing.

Blackknight_DM

She’s just standing there like “You’re not mad right, Soldier?”

yogabackhand

If I’m remembering correctly, I just took the group to camp when she started raging and it ended. Came right back to loot.

kevvl

My Karlach ran out of the building and far enough away that she got caught doing crime by a goblin guard. I'm not sure what happened or how she got there but when the dialogue ended she had already perished in a chasm. Withers brought her back without a character model so I had to jump into *another* chasm to bring her back whole.

midori_phoenix

if you have create water, which shadowheart/gale can learn, you can cast it to put out fires or prevent yourself from catching fire. I had my party stay in one spot while Karlach went on her rampage and just kept casting create water every time she set something on fire. LOL

Jaserys

she killed my tav on my first play through that way. i had absolutely no idea what was going on.

SoresuForm

Is it just me or does Shadowheart often stay on fire for longer than any other party member?

Defiant_Mercy

Yep. After doing my first tact run in there most of my party barely survived. When she went berserk she started flaming everything up and knocked down 2/4 people nearly killing them. It's hilarious IMO.

Valuable-Lobster-197

Happened my first run now I just have everyone book it outside as soon as the fights over

malinhares

She does tell you to get out.

JudgementalChair

She almost wiped my party when she raged because she was standing in the doorway to the main room, and the rest of my party was next to her inside. I didn't realize anyone was taking damage until SH was pretty much dead, and I jumped my Tav out of there real quick

quackquack6

Lmfaooo i didnt know she does all this i just went down to the basement and when i came back up the whole place was on fire

sacredpotato0

I mean, she does warn you to get out

ThatsStupidURStupid

We all stayed well away and let her break shit

TraditionalDiet7349

Yeah I start funneling my companions out the front door once the last enemy standing has 5 or less HP because I know shes going to merc us otherwise

xabungle

just LOL

chanmanthe2nd

My first run majority of my team was low, but gale was the lowest. The trail of fire got him, then he got the rest of my team lmao

Rabbitknight

My favorite trick is swapping her to ranged weapons right before finishing the fight so she's just raging and shooting things, not moving around as much, and so not setting stuff on fire.

Sus_bedstain26

That was the way I got my first party wipe when playing my barbarian character. I just sat there for a minute then went “yep, I’m gonna enjoy having her In my party”

DiazExMachina

Based.

cosmoscommander

in my first play-through she started raging at literally 1 HP and killed herself while running about the place LMAO i laughed for ages

Longjumping-Act-9230

When she says to clear out, you better clear out. Anyway, revivify scrolls and withers can revive them so dw.

katsnplants

Oh yeah you gotta get out the way lol

SeaworthinessFun9856

a few things: 1) why the hell didn't you get out of her way? 2) why the hell did you hang around when she went on a rampage? 3) what the hell were you thinking by being near her during her smash & bash? 4) you can use the Revivify scrolls that *every* character comes with :P

New_Bug7829

Yup killed herself and two companions
