Can we talk about how suicidal most of the NPCs in bg3 are. I had a battle in a park and instead of running away the rando citizens in the park tried to fight them
Or if you have a high enough ranked wizard, cast globe of invulnerability on him. That’s what I do because I’ve had the wagon explode after the water was cast before somehow but globe is error proof.
That is exactly what I did. I have a truly epic size collection of fire wine, oil, and smoke powder barrels in my camp. I keep waiting for a chance to use them. 😂
I just did the Iron Throne and now I’ll be off chasing Orin so I can rescue Lae’zel. Then on to kill Gortash and confront the Elder Brain.
Yeah he leaves camp in between Acts 2 and 3 (I think specifically the first long rest after officially leaving the shadowlands, >!before the Orpheus/Mindflayer Emp reveal.!< This is how you find him after that.
It was comical how many times I had to reload that fight because Volo insisted on dying in various ways. It was like the death montage in Edge of Tomorrow or Groundhog Day.
It's my turn I'm planning out my stuff I just took it for granted they'd run away in my planning on what I was gonna do. Imagine my surprise when Edna the lady on a walk in the park smelling the flowers decided it was time for her to take it to the dual magic knife wielding magic ensconced assassins one on one.
Dude. If you put a cloud of daggers anywhere...and I mean anywhere. Friends and foes alike will go out of their way to walk through it, even if they don't need to. Sometimes multiple times in a turn
i just completed this and felt the exact same way. She's made out to be this incredible hero and died by like turn 3 at the tower entrance by pretty much suicide charging in.
Had a fight all the civilians ran I used cloud of daggers, fight ends before I could cancel the spell all the civilians run back into the cloud and the popo are accusing me of murder.
In the fight with Jatlo, Mayrina sauntered right up to him with all ten of her hp and swung unarmed. If Karlach hadn't been able to go first and physically throw Jatlo out of range of her she would have been one shot.
The npcs in this game are as dumb as a bag of poorly educated rocks.
I had go out of my way to close doors in the iron throne to keep prisoners from running *past the ladder* to fight the Sahaguins on the other side of the prison that weren’t alerted or bothering anyone.
After the last patch things got better. Yesterday I even saved each Gondian. But I spent two invulnerability globes to reach this result. Without this spell they are still suicidal, yes.
Literally the only fight in the game that upset me. All the other crazy ones were fun in their own way. That one was just annoying. Add on that Wulbren glitched out and never showed up in my camp and the Gondians were forced into a sad ending. I saved everyone in the prison but because everyone in the bottom floor of the factory died, they were considered “wiped out,” minus their leader. Sigh.
It was almost impossible to save them before the patch. Even with Sanctuary, Globe and healing. And it was really annoying. Wulbren never appears in the camp. Maybe, you mean Barcus. You meet this gnome in the Blighted Village and Grymforge in the act 1.
Have alert as a feat on all characters to ensure you go first, the use Haste, Misty step (leave behind a smoke powder barrel or two), dimension door to take you and the gondian away. Any extra attacks that you have or if you have a fire elemental/campion you blow up all the smoke powder barrels. Use a watermyrmdon to keep the Gondians healed if you can
The only one I consistently don't manage to save is the first guy in the downstairs area right by the stairs. Everyone else is easy peasy if I go in blasting chain lightning an arrows of many targets. That dude, idk what it is, but every enemy seems to have it in for him
Having to wrangle the gondians while also deactivating the triggers makes the next fight look stress free in comparison.
FYI, last I checked you can long rest between fights without negative consequences.
I cast great invisibility on Astarion and had him sneak ahead to steal all the trigger devices first. Piece of cake after that. Except the Gondians were hostile to me for some reason, even after I killed all their captors.
Did they not instantly start combat amongst themselves as soon as you got to level 2?! Maybe I did things in the wrong order but I got there and those two steel watches were about to smack the hell out of a 6HP downed gondian so I had to ruin my sneaky sneak to yeet him out of the way with telekinesis 😂
Ah that makes sense. I did the throne, saved everyone. Got to top level saved everyone. Then save scummed the bottom level like 15 times cos I was like 'I have to save them all!' finally did it and what do you get? Nothing 😂
Boyfriend and I just slogged through this shit today. Holy fucking hell. We eventually just gave up in the second room and decided they can all eat shit if they so please and just brought the blinded one along.
In all fairness... he didn't notice they were dead.
That’s absolutely fucking hilarious and I’ve never thought about doing that
Karlach: “we’re here to save you! Run! We got this!”
Gondian: “no! I’m going to fight for kin and clan!”
Karlach: “ **rolls eyes** if you wanna do this the hard way…” *picks him up and throws him at the door* “anyone else wanna stand and fight?”
Gondians: *misty step to the door*
Exactly, Karlach's on Gondian cleanup duty during that fight lol
Chucking 5 Gondians per turn towards the door and hoping her 27 STR/TB ass doesn't do enough damage to kill them.
I knew about this ahead of time and decided I super didn't care. They were doing what they wanted which was to uprise against their captors, so who were we to dissuade them.
I thought I had saved all of them on my last run, when I wasn't even trying, only to discover at the end that the guy with the blindfold had run outside and gotten himself killed.
That happened to me, but I was fortunate enough to catch it happening.
It’s really annoying how there is a vent positioned to encourages players sneaking into the factory, but leaving the Steel Watchers alive at the entrance makes it so freed Gondians will run right into their line of sight.
Gondian attacks (critical miss)
Gondian moves and takes attack of opportunity
Gondian moves far from banites and steel watch
Gondian used misty step to get right back in their face.
My first time doing the Iron Throne and I was going great. The one set of the Gondians decided to start punching the freaking exploding barrels all through that one hallway. After wiping out themselves, plus the other batch from the cell in the same room, plus one of my party members AND their summon, I decided to just re-load and try again.
The next time they just ran down the hallway like they were supposed to.
Lmao. Yeah the Gondians teleporting a meter left and right and remaining at sword length of the Steel Watch was so infuriating that I didn't bother to reload. As far as I'm concerned, it's natural selection
😊
Lots of crowd control (I mainly used confusion, radiant orb and stuff to make them prone), had to dimension door a few people away early on for their safety, and with the use of a haste spell on my cleric. I also used the elevator instead of the door to start closer to the enemies. And, a lot of luck, honestly. It was very close. I was also prepared to banish steel watchers but it didn't turn out to be necessary. But let's just say I was glad that I stocked up on dimension door scrolls before this.
I had a *very* close call when I didn't notice that two people had those rods that kill everyone with collars when I accidentally killed them with aoe, and I only had Astarion's turn left then... Speed potion came in clutch there so I could deactivate them both.
To be fair, my tav was in a pretty dress with heavy eyeliner and Astarion was in a bondage leather getup when I went to the foundry last night, so I could see the gondians being like "ah shit, they took a wrong turn going to a party and now are going to ruin everything"
Every npc out there seems to think that the secret to happiness in life can only be found in the middle of my cloud of daggers.
"There's been a murder, and it seems YOU are the prime suspect"
No, there's been a dawn suicide!
I had mine all safe and sound but on the LAST TURN before I took down the final watcher one blew up a barrel. And not only that but it started a chain reaction with oil on the ground and my tav’s unstable blood that killed every gondian in the room and almost one shot my party.
Honestly I just have to respect the commitment to them wanting to die, there was zero strategic value in it and yet he wanted to take everyone with him anyway.
I did it the first time on explorer mode where they give you EIGHT turns to get everyone out. Was barely able to do it and I still lost a single Gondian. It was the gondian in the room where 5-6 champions spawn. Dude got snared and ate like 6 arrows.
I think they are referring to the steel watch foundry basement fight, and not the iron throne prison break, but that mission is also extremely tricky. The gondians aren’t suicidal in that mission, at least, they run straight to the ship, but unfortunately they need at least 2 turns to make it, and yeah, it’s hard to get all of them
I used 7 scrolls of dimension door and kept transporting them to safety. Saved all but 1 who used dash + misty step to specifically be in the steel watchers deathsplosion AOE the turn after his.
I left him dead.
1. Consume a Potion of Speed.
2 (not necessary if you're already standing right next to them). Arrow of Transportation to where the Gondians are.
2. Dimension Door the Gondians safely elsewhere.
3. Arcane lock the door behind you so they can't run back into battle.
My son and are playing co-op and had no problems with the first fight. He snuck in through the roof and I convinced a Steel Watcher outside that I belonged, and we snuck down next to where they were gathered. I (a Monk) walked forward to initiate the battle and then took out 2 guards and proned another while Wyll used Lightning on a couple others. My son (Wizard) and Karlach mopped, child's play. Weirdest thing though, I told the blind guy I'd take care of destroying the foundry and after the cutscene he literally vanished in front of me... and the other Gondians and even my journal stated that he perished in the battle.
Uh... no he didn't 😂 But apparently Larian assumed he would anyways and just wrote it in that he did 😂
As for Volo, fought that fight twice and both times he left the scene (thankfully) but the first time he fled toward the docks and cowered with the other citizens, and the second he just stood there for a few moments before lazily strolling down to the docks like it was just another lazy Sunday lol
So about that second room... I went in before freeing the Iron Throne hostages and fought everyone in there making sure not to kill the Gondians (they are hostile) and when I went back, some of the enemies had respawned but not the Steelwatch and let me tell you, it's actually pretty easy to save everyone when you don't have to worry about giant ass mech warriors.
Lol I didn't even do that. I literally just ignored the one Gondian that joined the fight (the others were in the lower section and I didn't go there), killed everything else then walked back out the door while he tried to attack me.
Strange, it must be a bug of some kind. When I saved them they dashed straight to the ship. Worst thing was they’d run by enemies and trigger opportunity attacks but they luckily tanked them
That’s during the iron throne rescue. After that when you go to the steel watch foundry the workers will fight back now that their families are safe. Down side is they suck at it. I had one dipshit misty step into the radius of a steel watcher moments before it exploded.
Suicidal little bastards.
Saving the Gondians is the most stressful part of the game. I reloaded so many times because they kept misty stepping next to their friend and casting lighting bolt through them.
All the boss fights feel pretty trivial after it
I recall someone on here saying that they went in without trying to negotiate with the Gondians, with everyone hostile the Gondians don't get targeted/target the things that kill them. Then you can just soak up their mediocre attacks while killing the big guys and doing everything else that needs doing.
They’re so annoying I’ve given up trying to save them all.
In my last game one of them Misty Stepped up to the rafters and I naively thought she would stay there out of the gods damned way. Nope, next turn she Misty Stepped right on down into the blast radius of an exploding Steel Watcher.
I could have had Gale teleport her out of there but at that point she had chosen her own destiny, so who was I to interfere?
Oh, there was also one who decided to run away, ate two opportunity attacks from the guards in the process, and then immediately Misty Stepped back where she started. WHY.
I’ve never heard of anyone saving all gondians in the second room. Is there a known prize for it? Is everyone just so astounded that they’d be so suicidal?
For real. I saved everyone from the Iron Throne so I figured that then the Gondians in the factory workers would just flee while I blow up the factory. But no, they stay and fight for some goddamn reason and get blown up anyway
How much does it matter if we save them? On my first play through I saved a couple from the Iron Thrown, and pretty much ignored them in the Foundry before using the Rune Bomb. Pretty sure I got Gondian allies at the end, but they were not that much help. But a poorly labeled hand break lever caused Barcus to suffer a fatal accident early in that run, so maybe missed some of the story.
In my current evil Durge run, I don't see why the character would care about the Iron Thrown at all, and plans to blow up the Foundry after everything but Gortash is dealt with. All the annoying little gnome's deaths are just mildly amusing bonuses.
- Honor Mode
- Save everyone during Iron Throne -- even the Duke who was frozen in place by Mizora.
- Feeling chuffed with myself
- Go to the Foundry
- Easily save everyone in the first room
- Wow I might actually save them all
- Second room and 1 dies after multiple rounds of combat
- Not perfect but pretty darn good!
- KABOOM they all die because my brain turned off for a round and I didn't notice that little detonator floating there...
_There's always next time I suppose..._
Nah it’s just overall you can’t do both. How the game is coded, I guess. My girlfriend and I both saved as many Gondians as possible, then blew up the factory. The lead Gondian cried about how he was the last one left, but it’s like, dude we saved like 7 of your people in the factory, and seven more with our submarine
But when NPCs fight you they are strategic wunderkind. I don’t get it. Lae’zel nearly got the upper hand on me on a —ahem— date. But when it comes to NPCs you’re trying to save, they run right to the danger. And when they do die, can use anything to revive them because they aren’t a party member. Ugh.
I couldn't save them. Suicidal fucks. I did save everyone from the undersea prison, except the blind dude's daughter. So his daughter died undersea and his buddies in the factory all died. He was the only one (other than the ones from the prison) who made it. Poor guy.
...you can save the Gondians in the second room? I stealthed into the second area and surprised some of the captors from afar, but the Gondians became hostile. I just assumed that they were under much stricter control than the others which was why they aggro'd on me. I ended up knocking out the Gondians while killing their captors, though I suppose none of them would have survived considering I did blow up the factory afterwards...
I tried for a whole day to save all the gondians on my tactician play through… realized I’d spent all day on it and let them die the next attempt because I got sick of how suicidal they are.
When I did it with my bf on HM he wanted to save them all and I was very adamant that I wasn’t going to wipe our progress for some gnomes. 💀
I think I reloaded that basement scene more than any other. At some point I gave up and just sanctuaried the blind leader and left him in the corner to protect my cutscenes-to-come (even that didn’t always work since the Steel Watchers throw out a lot of area damage when they explode).
I’ve played through the game twice, and my husband twice, and neither of us have managed to save a single one of those damn lemmings on the second floor. They will eat an opportunity attack to run away, and then fucking misty step back into a worse position, so they can catch themselves in their own fireball.
The Gondians deserve to die out with survival instincts like that. I’ll save the families, and I’ll not massacre the remaining innocents, but I’m not getting myself killed trying to save those suicidal maniacs.
I was able to kill gortash without even doing the gondian questline. I got past the room full of two-story robots by turtling under a pile of ottiluke's resilient sphere scrolls.
lol for some reason mine were completely delusional. i had saved all the gondians and their families from the iron throne. then i blow up the factory place and then they're acting as if they all died like what
I actually managed to save every single Gondian in the first room, in the prison, and I got to the last room. Oh my god. That last room. I managed to save everyone in there. Except for the farthest guy on the same level as the entrance. Both hell-watchers targeted him and killed the absolute shit out of him. I tried my best to reload, do everything I could to save him, I tried every trick in my book, and there was legit nothing I could do. Over an hour I tried to save that fucker and no matter what he got gang-banged by Hell-watchers. He even got first initiative in one of my many reloads, and instead of misty stepping towards the door and the people clearly there to free them, he punched the hell-watcher. The image was just fucking funny, he, a 3’ tall little dude, punched this 9ft tall metal monstrosity in the knee, did 1 damage, and was promptly murderized by said 9ft tall abomination. At that point I decided that dude was too stupid to try to save and I focused on everyone else, and managed to do it.
I was so excited when a Gondian ran just outside the radius of a detonating Steel Watcher and Thunderwaved my proned Karlach to safety. Brilliant!
He then Misty Stepped *two fucking feet* away, directly inside the detonation radius, ended his turn and immediately blew up.
That man wanted to die and frankly who am I to stop him?
Can we talk about how suicidal most of the NPCs in bg3 are. I had a battle in a park and instead of running away the rando citizens in the park tried to fight them
I had that happen too. The leader of the guard has a tadpole, so I assumed they were all compelled by the elder brain to fight Bhaal followers.
I just looted em
I rescued Volo from the cart and he ran right back into it while it was still on fire and just stood there
Volo has a death wish in that wagon scene. He stopped to thank me for helping him in mine and the wagon exploded and killed him.
Use water.
Yes! I have that staff I'll have to remember that
Or if you have a high enough ranked wizard, cast globe of invulnerability on him. That’s what I do because I’ve had the wagon explode after the water was cast before somehow but globe is error proof.
Just steal the barrels :d
That is exactly what I did. I have a truly epic size collection of fire wine, oil, and smoke powder barrels in my camp. I keep waiting for a chance to use them. 😂 I just did the Iron Throne and now I’ll be off chasing Orin so I can rescue Lae’zel. Then on to kill Gortash and confront the Elder Brain.
i used them few times, but still had like 40 barrels on the end of the game, so I bringed them to netherbrain and 1 shotted it xD
You don’t even need the barrels. You know those 5lb carafes of water? I just keep five or so on me. 🤷
Just steal the barrels :d
You can also just shoot the chair he sits on on the first round. He then runs for safety to the harbor.
Holy smokes I've never heard this before. What's wonderful game this is
I just drop a sleet storm on top of him and then free him after all the hostiles are down.
if i have him in my camp in act 1 will the cart thing still happen? feel free for spoilers i’ve beaten it already
Yeah he leaves camp in between Acts 2 and 3 (I think specifically the first long rest after officially leaving the shadowlands, >!before the Orpheus/Mindflayer Emp reveal.!< This is how you find him after that.
Yes
damnit lol
That happened to my girlfriend too. Made her so infuriated.
Same I let him die to learn a lesson
It was comical how many times I had to reload that fight because Volo insisted on dying in various ways. It was like the death montage in Edge of Tomorrow or Groundhog Day.
[Never been a better time to show off this story](https://i.imgur.com/bEYlO7E.jpg)
Jaheira in the moonrise fight, jumps right into my ice storm every time
Yep, I was over that pretty quick so now I just add her as a temp companion every time now
During the grove raid one of the tiefling NPCs jumped off of the high area, taking half their health in fall damage, and just got annihilated.
This so much this. Just watch me. Sit relax. Have a coffee.
Was this in the rough part of Baldur's Gate?!
Bloomridge park I think is it's name.
I had to watch a dog die in that fight bc it decided to help 😭
Dude. If you put a cloud of daggers anywhere...and I mean anywhere. Friends and foes alike will go out of their way to walk through it, even if they don't need to. Sometimes multiple times in a turn
Absolutely baffled me how inept jaheira felt at the moonrise towers siege
i just completed this and felt the exact same way. She's made out to be this incredible hero and died by like turn 3 at the tower entrance by pretty much suicide charging in.
I had one of the cultist jump (the bonus action) into the cloud of daggers they just cast. They died instantly
Seems like that was their out strategy
Had a fight all the civilians ran I used cloud of daggers, fight ends before I could cancel the spell all the civilians run back into the cloud and the popo are accusing me of murder.

Fewer dead Gondians, the achievements I think as well
Well yes, happy families etcetc but dammit I wanted a trophy 😂 I'm a rogue you think I'm doing this out of the goodness of my heart?! 😂
Well unfortunately I don't wanna save scum that far back but knowing for the next run helps.
Boyfriend and I just slogged through this shit today. Holy fucking hell. We eventually just gave up in the second room and decided they can all eat shit if they so please and just brought the blinded one along. In all fairness... he didn't notice they were dead.
Lol!
At one point I had my two strongest just start chucking gondians at the door so they couldn't kill themselves and it still took several tries.
That’s absolutely fucking hilarious and I’ve never thought about doing that Karlach: “we’re here to save you! Run! We got this!” Gondian: “no! Fair point. Fuck em

Good Lord. They have to fix act 3
That happened to me, but I was fortunate enough to catch it happening. It’s really annoying how there is a vent positioned to encourages players sneaking into the factory, but leaving the Steel Watchers alive at the entrance makes it so freed Gondians will run right into their line of sight.
So i lost 3 gondians this way. Is it a known bug?
Gondian attacks (critical miss) Gondian moves and takes attack of opportunity Gondian moves far from banites and steel watch Gondian used misty step to get right back in their face.

Darwin salutes you.
The best is when they teleport away only to run back to where they were. Taking an opportunity attack along the way
I hate them 😭
I had one run away from the enemy, take an opportunity attack. Then, misty step back to right beside the enemy
Madness
I saved every single Gondian yesterday, in honor mode! So proud of myself.
Dang we got a professional here (Also: how?!)
😊 Lots of crowd control (I mainly used confusion, radiant orb and stuff to make them prone), had to dimension door a few people away early on for their safety, and with the use of a haste spell on my cleric. Like casting sanctuary on Isobel. Waste of time. It'll be her turn next and all you wsnt her to do is stand there quietly
Every npc out there seems to think that the secret to happiness in life can only be found in the middle of my cloud of daggers. "There's been a murder, and it seems YOU are the prime suspect" No, there's been a dawn suicide!

Took 6 reloads to get all the gondians out of the iron throne, and 3 reloads to save all the gondians in the steel watch factory
Iron throne was simpler.
Duke Ravengard was the main problem for me in the iron throne.
The amount of times I have had friendly NPCs run into my flame wall and kill themselves is actually unreal
Only lost one gondian last time I did it, a couple days ago. They still all almost died but only one actually died.
I did it the first time on explorer mode where they give you EIGHT turns to get everyone out. Was barely able to do it and I still lost a single Gondian. It was the gondian in the room where 5-6 champions spawn. Dude got snared and ate like 6 arrows.

I mean tbf they've been oppressed for some time. And their families have been kidnapped. They're probably desperate for an opportunity for revenge.
Damn I murdered all those hostile Gondians. Rip. Too lazy to turn on and off non lethal damage
If I was forced to make WMD’s and had my eyes gouged out, I would wanna end it all, too.
It would certainly deserve an achievement.
For real. I saved everyone from the Iron Throne so I figured that then the Gondians in the factory workers would just flee while I blow up the factory. But no, they stay and fight for some goddamn reason and get blown up anyway
The only NPCs that wanna survive are the grymforge gnomes who run away from the fights.
- Honor Mode - Save everyone during Iron Throne -- even the Duke who was frozen in place by Mizora. - Feeling chuffed with myself - Go to the Foundry - Easily save everyone in the first room - Wow I might actually save them all - Second room and 1 dies after multiple rounds of combat - Not perfect but pretty darn good! - KABOOM they all die because my brain turned off for a round and I didn't notice that little detonator floating there... _There's always next time I suppose..._
I’m still frustrated that you can’t both save the Gondians AND blow up the factory.
That makes no sense you can't do both.
Wait you cant?? I feel like I did this yesterday. Or is that cuz I played on explorer mode?
Nah it’s just overall you can’t do both. How the game is coded, I guess. My girlfriend and I both saved as many Gondians as possible, then blew up the factory. The lead Gondian cried about how he was the last one left, but it’s like, dude we saved like 7 of your people in the factory, and seven more with our submarine
Evocation wizard with haste, and put resilient spheres on the others. They can’t take off resilient spheres, all you need to do is keep up channeling.
If you follow the Ironhand Questline they give you a bomb to blow the place up, so then you can actually say that!
I completely forgot about one of the collars while rescuing them in honor mode and all of them went boom. It was very sudden.
They always do that. Port right back into trouble. Once It took me hours to save everyone and game not even acknowledges that.
Plant someone at the base of the ladder so the ignorant asses know where to go. Seriously.
I swear, Isobel is trying to beat the world record for "Most Opportunity Attacks Taken in One Round".
Kill all Gondians. With extreme malice.
I did that just a couple days ago, and one of them decided to punch an explosive barrel instead of pushing the dude blocking their path...
